Title: How to find out a legit ICO?
Post by: Bitcotalk on January 12, 2017, 08:34:54 PM
Suppose if there are a number of ICOs started for different coins by anonymous developers then how can we find that which one the legit ICO and which one is scam ICO?

You can't. Which is why ICOs are worse than gambling.

Like the other guy stated, we can't since we didn't know what will be the final phase of the project. But there are factors we can check to minimize our worries and the associated risk which some are; having an  active devs, funds being escrowed and continous development.

Investing in ICO is really a risky investment but if we will take the brighter side of the picture it will be profitable. So it's really worth to try than to try other risky investment out there.

You can have an assurance that an ICO will be legit enough. It is like or even more than gambling just like what bathrobehero said. Just look at their road map if they are planning to make their coin for a long term use then go for it. Read their ANN thread and together read the people's comment , that is important.

You can check http://icocountdown.com and http://coininterview.com

https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCOu5mkF_NczLQzICINvzr9w

The first is a website that shows all ICO's and does due diligence, the second is an interview site where we interview the developers.

when you ask the developers for information about themselves or the project and they won't be open, that is a sign of a scam

The first thing to do is are the faces of the developers visible and what is their antecedent in crypto space
Second, how visible is the technology or idea they are proposing
Third, A trusted Escrow must be used
Fourth, invest only after the project get traction.

All these are not guarantee but will help to help your decision making

Hey you better look at annoncement thread. I saw this ICO and looks very promising. Take a look at this ANN thread https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1738600. They got 3 escrows and these 3 escrows are highly trusted escrows in this forum(yahoo62278, Lauda, Miner jones). This is good for you since you are finding legit ico.

It is not possible to predict that Ico is successful until the final phase of the project, every thing looks like genuine but when they din't reach their definitely it will be bad ICO. Don't consider ICO without any escrow, escrow should be their so that escrow will hold you money until they need to finish those which are listed in RoadMaps.

It is just simple. Just avoid anonymous devs. Satoshi nakamoto tactics will not gonna work right now because scammer already aware and doing it. It impossible now for an ICO with anonymous devs to become successful. People have a natural greediness within us. So instead of choosing legit ICO with anon devs, just choose the safe project

Invest on ICO is such as placing a bet for some card on the board. You don't know which card is good but gamble on it is really interesting.
You can't predict which ICO will success on the progress, but support they coin will make a +1 for development.

It is very difficult, when you invest in ico you really bet like a blind man, never trust 100% the developer words, because so many of us got scammed, checking the site also is not going to increase your trust level, so i believe it is better to stay away from ico, eventhough sometimes the profit is huge but the risk is very big

I'll definitely look for existing project not empty promise where they can run when the dev received the funds, some of the legit ico I invested are BASH and Victoriouscoin, victoriouscoin is implementing an Ics and they have ready projects while holding their interactive coin sales.

Still we can't tell with surity that which altcoin ICO is legit and scam because reason is not only its price increase after some time but its publicity always matter a whole .
In my experience , that ICO ,is much better than other ,which have listed his coin in the top 10-15 altcoin list at trading site .
It is because the alcoin which can see by the trader will be comes in activity deal of buy/sell .
And secondly if any ICO which is advertising his altcoin through signature campaign by paying bitcoin( not his altcoin ) then that we go for profit and can be listed into better altcoin ICO .

Also people who creates ICO. If they are known in crypto world, it can give some proof that it ll not be a scam.
But the main thing is final step of project and the main idea. And if it is possible to get back money and leave ICO or if you can do smth with tokens of it (if it's in tokens). It gives some proof and trust to people.

Wow...
Spoetnik.. you actually never fail to amaze me. I have been reading bitcointalk for years, and all I have read of late is you trash talking and getting people down. Posting in ICO threads poking fun of people. I register and make my first post just to share a source of information I have found.. and here you are within a matter of hours just to ridicule me.

I didn't provide any trade advice, I actually answered the OPs question of where to find some information on whether an ICO is credible or not. Which is considerably more than you have contributed to this thread, or to the entire forum over the past few weeks in fact.

I hope your trolling feeds whatever ego problems you have buddy. You just picked on a user with one post to his name, trying to help someone else out. Congratulations.

Your wasting your time.
You are getting the same old crap.
This same exact topic gets posted every few days by noobs who don't know how to use a forum search button.
They all will end up getting the same replies.

Trust me i know i have seen the same handful of cliche'd topics repeated endlessly here over the years.
It's odd too because any other forum on the web would delete them all..
This place is fucked right up though.. bump an old topic and they will bitch at you and deleted your reply.
Re-post the same tired old crap questions endlessly and you're in their good books.
See the underlying point ? Forum database waste ?
Seems kind of fucking retarded to me.  ::)

You said..
"I want to make this thread as rich of knowledge about anonymous ICOs to find legit among them"

So do you think the self-entitled little brats asking for personal 1 on 1 assistance will use the search button and find this topic ?
LOL of course not  :D
..they will simply re-ask the same tired old question.

How to find Legit ones ?
That is retarded.. there isn't any.

You showed up here OP to make money obviously...
So a legit one is one that makes you money and a scammy one is one you lose money on.
So start a new topic asking how do i get rich at Bitcointalk "investing" in ICO PONZI scheme's

So ?
Good luck i hope you get mad ROI'z yo !
Hope them ICO shitcoin investments make you sick rich bro !
Welcome to crypto and glad your here.. know any other "traders" that want to flog shitcoins for BTC ?

99% ICOs are not legit or simply not worth investing. You want to speculate, it is fine. Some good coins are not really doing ICOs. Many ICOs are for pump and dump.

Its very difficult to find but, you can minimize risk by checking some aspects. First read their ANN thread thoroughly so that you can get a clear idea. Know who are its founders. Most importnt, check whether all of its coins are premined or yet most coins to be mined after ICO. If all of its coins are premined, then you should be more cautious.

Are you asking which are LEGIT or are you asking which will make you profits ?
Because the two do not necessarily go hand & hand.. *IF* we were talking about "Mined" coins.

ICO's are scammy & crooked by design and should not be supported at all ever.
If you do then you are supporting Crypto-PONZI Schemes for Profit making scammers rich.
And taking a nasty rotten fat shit all over any and all *REAL* "Legit" coins.

If you are not helping the situation by condemning them you ARE the problem.

Many coins have different platform it is not possible to find which one legit because every thing seems to be more legit, some people will have an intention to make this coin more profitable to it's customers. But through signature campaign we can able to find them whether it is good one are not because dev's will be very active through this.

Choose the ico was using the trusted escrow, and so anytime, the ico will be turning into the scam ico and the escrow will return your money.
Simple.
It like an insurance or guarantee for testing about the ICO, is the legit ico or not.

This is really the indications and you could really answer that question by yourself. This is true that if you gain profit into an ICO then its legit if not then scam.No one could really know the situation if an ICO would go scam or succesful thats why its a wise thing to do is research about a particular ICO if you saw that devs are not hiding themselves and money is own escrowed then theres a possibility but theres no guarantee.

I do not think it's possible to find a totally legitimate one. But it is possible to filter out those that are sure to be scam. If you have a reliable escrow, the devs you know in the community already gives you greater security. Nothing guaranteed. I recommend Google search the images they use in the ads, some use edited images of the ones that already exist on the internet  :D

I think ICO is regulated: meaning there is no third party protecting the funds you invest. If a company’s Initial Coin Offering (ICO) is legit can be a helpful skill to develop prior to deciding on your crypto-investment strategy. We are aiming to build Initial Coin Offerings website (https://www.icoclone.com) transparent, easy to realize and available for everyone.

And also, check the ratings of the ICO if it is going to be good or bad. Understand their whitepaper if their ideas will surely give a lot of contributions in the near future.

They have some factors to evaluate what is a good ICO project.
Here are some of those:
1- The main ideal
2- Whitepaper
3- Team DEV & advisors (team members should have linkedin)
4- Website & other social channels/ cummunity

Question, How to Find a Legit ICO?

What and Interesting Question But Its more Complicated to answer but in some Cases in other countries Like the U.S Doing and ICO or CrowdFunding is Already regulated by the Government Specifically Like S.E.C people behind those ICO's are real people and Not Hiding there Identity so in that case you can sure its legit But its different in other countries, Im just qouting U.S as and Example But not all Countries that hosting ICO's and Crowdfunding has a regulation laws or Maybe there is But They are still in Confusion of doing a regulation. BTW just be vigilant of Doing anything regarding this topic.

In most countries, ICO has not yet been legalized. Every country's government has a relatively vague policy on ICO, and some countries are more exclusive, mainly because many of the ICO projects are too false to cheat money. Now, Japan and Russia are studying related policies to make ICO more standardized, which is good news for ICO. Of course, the government is doing this in order to make its economic order more secure and avoid many financial problems.

I look at the project viability.

Does it make sense for this project to achieve its goals?

Real team behind the project.

Never judge an ICO through ICO rating website. As these rating can be sponsored. I have seen few cases where top rating sites gave a rating of 5/5 and later they removed it from their website. There are chances that they have their share in ICO rating.

So the question comes how to choose best ICO?

If you have an ICO say XYZ then types in google "XYZ bounty" you will find a bitcointalk thread with ICO marketing details. Almost every ICO shares their contribution as bounty to get more contributors.

I have seen projects like TEZOS or RAIDEN NETWORK or ATONOMI or ENIGMA. These ICOs never offered any bounty or marketing advertisements still they reached hardcap.

There are many points like a team, whitepaper blablabla... already discussed in this thread. I always prefer to check the reputation of company and absence of bounty other than the concept, team, etc.

Suppose if there are a number of ICOs started for different coins by anonymous developers then how can we find that which one the legit ICO and which one is scam ICO?

You should do research about the people who are behind the ICO. Also, check out their social media pages and see if they are getting interaction from others or not.

Buy ICO coins.. if you profit then it's legit otherwise it's a scam.
It has nothing to do with how they work so don't pay any attention to that FUD.

In my own opinion there is no specific way how to determine if the ico you like is legit or not scam because we will only know it if the ico is already finished but i have my own way of  determining if i can trust the ico first is I'm  looking who is the bounty manager of that specific ico and i will search some information about that ico.

I think you can find the white paper, team and the roadmap.

Even if you read Whitepaper thoroughly, and find it is really great, it will not guarantee you that the ICO is the project that will give you the greatest profit. I would rather pay more attention to the team.

finding out legitimate ICOs and Crypto project this year is very difficult due to scammers can even make good websites and make everything that are too good to be true.
I am a bounty hunter so I do have more experiences on joining scam and bogus ICOs and bounty campaigns and none of us noticed that ICO were actually scam unless the ICO is about to end.
scammers bagged the investors' money and ran away and that's the time we only know that the ICO are scam and it's kinda too late.

There are too many factors on how to check whether that ICO is legitimate of scam but for me, I can spot them just buying on their Telegram Channels because I do believe that good ICOs have a very strong social communities like Telegram, facebook, Twitter etc.
check the number of social participants like Telegram, they should have more than a thousand active members and admins are available at anytime of the day because good ICOs do have social managers and moderators.
otherwise, that ICO has a higher chance of being a scam or bogus.

Don't trust anonymous ICOs. If you don't know who runs it, just stay away man.
Tons of people were scammed that way.

They will invest and after a few weeks or months, nobody knows anything about that ICO.
Some will even close their website lol. Talking about some experience. I learned the hard way.

Only invest what you are willing to lose. Dont put your money all in one basket. Proper financial planning is important in every investment we make. Try looking in in SafeCrypt.io. A high security exchange that has high standards of quality and every piece of software is being tested multiple times before they make it publicly available.
I spent some time to study SafeCrypt ICO. I think this ICO could become one of the best this spring, because of several reason:
 1. This is cryptoexchange. And this cryproexchange has some advantages compare to existing ones: instant transactions, lowest fees, absolute anonimity, large select of crypto assts and others.
 2. They lead very good ICO policy.
 3. THey have Adequate and reasnable bonus rates.

Unfortunately, it is impossible to verify the legitimacy of the ICO, but it seems to me that over time the ICO will be legalized and this will be possible. Only when this happens and whether it is still so profitable in this case to invest in ICO is still very unclear. Now investing in ICO is very risky and very profitable, and you can not check whether it is legitimate ICO!!!!)))) But if you find a good project, you will be very satisfied. When choosing an ICO, I always check the team, look at the plan, the idea, of course it should be in demand, and preferably unique!!! And also see the documents, follow the project, read the news. And if you understand that there is no information on the project, a lot of incomprehensible and hidden boldly abandon it and do not invest! To date, I can recommend the Caratz project. Look at them very innovative idea: the Association of cryptocurrency and social networks, a good serious and experienced team, all information on the project is open. I have been following this project for a long time and consider it worthy of attention. Actually see it yourself on their website https://caratz.io

No! reputable manager cannot determine that your in a good ICO since sometimes the campaign managers are been blinded on the real score of there project hold, remember that there are so many ICO finish scam and doesn't deliver their coin on good exchange and left it without proper support. But there's one thing we can see if the project is good and legit, and those are devs transparency and escrows presence with their project.

it is very difficult to know because some ICO really has good plan but after crowdsales, they discover they can not continue with the project and at the same time don't want to lose the money they have invested then they end-up running away with investors money. however there are few ways you can know scam ICO. from experience most scam ICO do not have real whitepaper. most of them use to plagiarise other ICO whitepaper so you may know a scam ICO by using plagiarism software to check whether the whitepaper is plagiarised.

If the scammers are not experienced, it is easy to determine the banal verification of all information. But also, many scammers simply make a copy of a successful ICO changing only the name, there is little that will help, because many are really similar to each other and equally successful.

There are so many ways you can simply find out if an ICO is legit or scam, the only thing you cannot find out is if the ICO is going to be successful or not, which for most ICOs with a great team, investors are normally refunded. Identifying a scam starts with the team and as long as you can identify a team that is ready to work pretty well, and there is a product to invest in, then you will not have a problem with your investment being a legit one or not based on what you eventually find out.

Its not so easy to fin legit ICO but you have many basis and reference which the reason to make you guidance on how perfectly you can choose an ICO that its legit.Try also for telegram channel communication and the background of the team.
Nothing is easy which is the reason why proper and due diligence is needed to be able to survive the ICO space and for those lazy enough to do this due diligence, they are normally the ones that end up involved in a scam project.

Be sure you are investing in a project with a product and not just an empty promise, and you should also be ready to invest in a project with experienced and well vast team members and not just some young dudes looking for ways to get rich faster.

Well, as what you have said developer is anonymous. In that name ICO is not legit. All information of the ICO project should be visible and clearly stated in all social media. The platforms also of the ICO project you are going to invest must be original and not copied by any other existing ICO. That is just a basic things to know on how you can say that the ICO you are going to invest is legit.

The SciDex protocol sets out to unlock smart contracts for businesses. It starts by enabling the translation of written contracts to smart contracts and ascends the complexity chart by adding additional trusted, secured and proven layers.

I think it's very difficult. and it makes no sense to compare two similar projects. because they will be the same and everyone will claim that he is real. look for one where there is no doubt. otherwise, you will spend a lot of your time

Research. Research and a bit of luck.

While you can take a hint on what ICO promises looking at their whitepaper, websites and history.

Luck is for the weak!

If you truly want to find a legitimate ICO, you have to be thorough in your research, and inevitably ROI will come!

1. Due diligence
Check previous ICO performance. If an ICO is in the crowdsale, you will be able to assess its past performance from private sale or pre-sale!
Assess if the people behind an ICO have sufficient experience to market, develop and launch their product / service exponentially.
Roadmap is the next big thing. Observe the dates and see if they respected each and every point mentioned in the roadmap
See how they marketed. Check sources such as listings, PRs, news, reviews, social media, forums, blog posts, etc.
Check their website, and make sure that it has all the necessary features:
a. WP
b. Roadmap
c. Token info
d. Token distribution
e. Vesting
f. Problem & Solution
g. Team & advisors
h. Vision
i. Ecosystem

2. ICO Stages (Private sale, pre-sale, crowdsale) - understand in which phase the ICO is currently in and understand the differences
3. KYC
4. Registration and purchase directly via their website
5. HODL or Trade

Yeah, that's good. Always pay more attention mate. Do research and a further readings also don't just rely on a single reference, much better to use a lot of references like reddit, telegram and also here in bitcointalk. And also, check the ratings of the ICO if it is going to be good or bad. Understand their whitepaper if their ideas will surely give a lot of contributions in the near future.

To be honest, it's quite easy. You can easily detect is the team of the project serious or not about the project. I mean, when you want to check is the ICO legit or not, check the website, whitepaper, the team and how active the telegram group. Like how fast they answer the question from the community and the investor. Check the linkendin profile for each team, check the photos too.

open ICO sales are also a great value for the project, rather than sales that are not published, it makes investors who join there become uncomfortable, and a lack of trust can also occur there

It is very difficult to find an ICO which has the potential and above all not a scam. Look for the whitepaper, idea of the project, teams specialties. But these things can not guarantee that ICO is legit. I personally recommend  you not to invest in ICO and buy the tokens when they are listed on a well known exchange.

A good ICO would be hard to spot now in this sea of ico scams that we are seeing coming out of the market. You have to be willing to turn into some kind of crypto detective to find the good ones. Research, go on their websites, their social media, make sure that they are working on the things that they say they are working on. That is always a good indicator.

This is a good question to answer, I think in order to find and filter out which ICO is legit and which ICO is Scam, we should first be knowledgeable about their purpose. First, read their respective whitepapers and try to connect it to their bounty share. If you think their white paper is written in high quality content, believe that it is legit. But I don't assure you that, you can also see, how many members do their telegram group have.

One thing to look for is the purpose and long term vision of the token. Some ICOs are opting for a token sale as a fast way to raise capitals but a traditional fund raising with VCs would be much more appropriated for their business model.

There is no guaranteed way to find out is if its a scam. That is why a lot of scammers keeps on doing it. They are ruining the life of many investors and they are ruining the reputation of crypto. If this keeps happening, crypto will lose a lot of active investors and those who are planning to invest on crypto. A lot of people will hesitate to invest on ICO's and will just settle on established coins, the top ranking coins.

The most important thing - from which everyone should start to verify the ICO project - is to check the developers team.
Everyone should have a LinkedIn profile and a credible history and confirmed experience.
If you think that someone can run a project right after graduation, it's your decision whether you want to trust him.
But if dev team want to stay anonimous it is for me big red flag and righ away i'm out.

Be sure to look at the whitepaper of each project before deciding to invest in them. And most importantly, do not invest before you scrutinize the development team behind the project. Any project that does not have a credible, easy-to-authentic, and open-source team can project a lot of skepticism and turn into a living nightmare for all.
I think so!.

It's really hard to find a legit ICO but you can cut down the list by doing due diligence. You do your research by starting with the team of developers and advisers including the company related to the ICO. Check them if they are for real. Aside from that evaluate the whitepaper and websites. You can start with these.

Aside from Website existence. Look also for its Social Media accounts. See if the Team Members has LinkedIn account (know their background), search for feedbacks, reviews, what's their product. Read the whitepaper, look for youtube reviews, discord, reddit. Ask the community on Telegram, interact with them. Know whose their Advisor, partners and if promoted by wel-known people. it's a plus points that it's legit.

Know with either the team or management behind it. One of the most important success factors for ICO or cryptocurrency is the developer and administrative team behind the project. The cryptocurrency space is dominated by big names, with superstar developers like the founder of Ethereum, Vitalik Buterin, who are able to create new projects just by putting their names on the development team. Then check the document (whitepaper) A cryptocurrency or ICO whitepaper is the basic document for the project, and read carefully. Observe Token Sales, legitimate companies are trying to make a transparent system and the progress of sales of tokens is easy for potential investors to see. How Decent an ICO Project is, Many ICOs launched, even highly publicized ones, have simply evaporated after initial interest faded. Your best chance for a successful investment depends on the company that has a set of goals that are achievable and feasible. That is how we can find out whether it is a legitimate ICO or a scam.

It is not that easy to be %100 sure it is a scam or not. So my advice is to always check the team linkedin profiles plus the product behind any ico. Is this useful or not?!! It the product is good enough even in the preview stage, then it is a good sign. Also don't forget to check the roadmap. Is this realistic road?!! If yea, then, again, it is a good sign. For a sample check the ARROUND ico. This is good and suits the these factors.

When an ico promises so much and it feels like it is too good to be true then there is a 100% chance that ico is fake and a scam. Don't fall for false promises and fake insurances that guarantees you big profit for that is the most common tactics of scammers. It is better to look for an average looking ico but with an interesting goal.

You need to research the project first, read the whitepaper and identify the team of that project. Because there are many ICO nowadays with fake identities, like the team are fake, they are just stealing some personal identities of real team of some coin or crypto project.
we could not confirm the identity of this team was real.except they do kyc too from third party to avoid fake people.whitepaper could be good source for us identify their plan in future.

It is very difficult for us to identify the ICOS Campaign, but it is only possible to see the campaign information on the Whitepaper. The link between the founders and the team is too much. the promise to bring and the amount of tokens held clearly.

the problem is to find the new coin that can do a big % of price grow...we must look for coins that are not ico or bounty but people are too stupid for this....I regret I did not get bought coins like litecoin, vertcoin or viacoin when they were very very low in 2015...there is a good dose of luck of course, but you must always do your own researches...for example watch Elicoin in livecoinwatch , is not an ICO or bounty... it's a coin with low mc, low supply, PoW whit cpu, no premine, active dev...only trading it on CREX24 for now...do you own researches in the thread in bitcointalk: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=3028302.0... people are too stupid for DYOR and got scammed by ICO or bounty...just my 2 cents...hope it helps...cheers

First read the whitepaper first, then check the team behind of the project if they are real a not a fake one, also if they are more on hyping the community and bestowing any promises for the people just for the sake the community need to buy the token, that's the time we need to think more than twice and don't easy to believe on the sweet words you are going to hear from them.

Personally, I do not even know.
I myself thought about it several times, but then I realized that we can determine the legality of the ISO only if the countries themselves legitimize their appearance.
Otherwise, we will not be able to determine how legitimate they are.

I think in white paper all details have been described and you can judge about that ICO by researching white paper but I am selecting ICO just like I am investing my hard earn money to right place. For that purpose I check also their social media accounts like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Telegram,Reddit etc. I check How much followers of that project in this social media accounts, more followers mean more people interested in that project so its good. Other point is I check who managing that ICO mean I check about ICO manager's trust level. And last and important think is to check how much experience the developer team.also try some ICO rating site like ICO bench, ICO top. etc.

That is hard to find. If you are not a dev understanding a whitepaper is really hard issue. If your language is not native english it can be harder than before. Also you can look their team but maybe they can create fake linkedin profiles and you can not call these guys with their cellphone so in my opinion the best way of that investors. If you can see some legit investors in that ico. At least you can be sure that ico is not scam.

You should just do a deep research about the project and the team that is developing the project. Read through their whitepaper and check the team's profile. I think that is the only way to check whether an ICO is legitimate or not. If an ICO has an anonymous developer, it all depends on your intuition whether if you will trust what is written on the whitepaper, since there are projects that has an anonymous team, but still successful.

legit projects always offer solutions to other people's problems to make it easy, besides that you have to see their team whether they are a great team or not and if they are a great team then invest there. Also pay attention to the project whether it was ever done a roadshow or never because most of the shitproject teams never showed themselves

They also have interviews which you can watch on youtube or on their telegram channel t.me/evoai

If you are tech-savvy, then you can dive deep into their code or try to learn more about them, but in the end, ICOs are all about risk and reward system. The more the risk, the better the rewards. Investing In an ico now is just like betting or gambling. Many scam ICo's out there. However, as we invest in new opportunities while risky, there could be huge ROI if we choose the right one. To avoid fake ICo's, here are some warning signs: Poorly Implemented Website and Whitepaper, The Team Lacks Credibility and Expertise, Lack of Roadmap or underdeveloped or unclear Product Roadmap and Empty repositories for open-source projects. Also, Is there a great Underlying Product Behind the ICO? We need to check out all this before investing in ICo's to limit being scammed.

Even legit one can become an unsuccessful project or a scam one, can be a successful one. It is on how it will be implemented and develop. If the team decided to continue with the development, it is legit but if not, it is a scam. Be careful in choosing and supporting a project. Make sure that it will really help everyone and not only those who have participated in it.

People are not calling random investment as long as the devs identities are known to be legit. It doesnt work that way.

Read, read, and read some more.  Scan the internet.  Preferably find candidates with real people who are actively communicating.  A lot of ICOs are now governed by regulatory agencies so that should make fact finding about various businesses that choose to use an ICO as funding/contract vehicle.

Legitimate ICO the majority do not use anonymous. Because that is one of the notes and criteria for investors and also participants in choosing ICO. They will tend to choose ICO with a clear identity from the developer. By knowing who the developer is, they can track references and biodata from the developer, whether they have the ability or not.

If you really want to be certain that an ICO is legit, go only for ICO-s by companies that are already profitable, popular and with an established business - unlike scammers, these have a ton to lose.
The list is too short though, so if you want to expand it you'll need to read a lot of whitepapers and do a ton of background research on the creators, so get ready for a party if that's the case

Real talk, there are 95% of all ICO's that are not legit and will end up scamming or running after reaching their target/goal.
Then 5% of it will remain as legit and will end up continuing their goal or project until the end.

So let's say if there are 100 ICO's therefore there are only 5 ICO's who are legit. Therefore the best answer to your question is, no professional individual that can tell that it is a good ICO and legit.
You will be lucky if you can join the right ICO, thought there are few means that you can hold on to found a semi legit ICO. Research their team, project, origin of the project, business registration number, roadmap, whitepaper and review from other forum members.

Check out the website and development team behind the ICO in question, see if the project has attained VC funding, consider the level of community support that the project has, examine their whitepaper, find out if they have a smart contract, and get all the information related to their token sale.

There is no surefire way to determine if an ICO is legit, but as an investor or marketer, there are several things you could look out for that could point you in the right direction.

You could start by doing your research on the team members and the type of partnerships they're into. Identifying a scam often starts with the team and as long as you can identify a team that is ready to work pretty well, and there is a product to invest in, then there is a big chance the ICO  is legit.

Detailed study of the white paper to determine a good founder. The high number of scam ICOs have made it quite relevant for people to do a whole lot of research into projects before either investing or helping in bounty campaign. Well it is better to know the team behind the project and also look at the problem that they seek to address whether it is feasible or not.

Well, I think you can only find out if you meet by the developers themselves , and to see the documents and so I would not believe everything that they throw at the Internet !

Suppose if there are a number of ICOs started for different coins by anonymous developers then how can we find that which one the legit ICO and which one is scam ICO?

The more you know about the project and the ICO itself, the more you can avoid being scammed. Check if the promise of the project, the platform and earning are realistic and feasible. The credibility of the team and how they handle their community is also important. Scam projects are getting very sophisticated lately that they can imitate and make themselves very legitimate. so know deeply who you invest your assets.

Finding a legit ICO right now is very difficult. Take a look at the team behind the project, check out their roadmap, social media platforms, if you are confused about it being legit. Go ahead to invest in it, if otherwise back off.

Guys first and the basic thing is just think or research about the concept of the ICO . Also think will that idea be practical to implement.
I have seen so many ICOs boasting many things which are impossible to implement like asteroid mining. So just use common sense . Second thing is the geninuity and the experience in that particular field of the team. These two are the main things one should consider before investing in any ICO.

The only way you can mitigate the risks when taking part in an ICO is to thoroughly check the backgrounds of the people heading up the project and to make sure that their website, whitepaper, social media profiles and experience all match up to what you would expect. Pick projects where the people already have relevant experience in that field, and that the project seems feasible on paper to begin with.

Every project has partners. Through its partners is to begin the ICO check. Do companies really cooperate with a startup and so on.

yes, we do have to be extra careful in choosing ICO because it is difficult to distinguish between legal and illegal ICOs. hence knowledge is very necessary in choosing ICO so that we will be more able to consider all possibilities that exist because even the ICO that looks very good is fraud.

Without a doubt, the owner of the company, the founder and other high-ranking positions should be public people, because it is necessary to hold webinars/conferences/AMA questions/interviews/presentations and other events. If you see an ICO project where owners/development team do not have real photos and accounts in social media - 99.999999% - scam!

I have came across many such ICOs which look good in the beginning, their team works actively, website is well updated, every query is properly answered and one fine day everyone disappears after they collect a good amount of funds. Personally I think there should be some regulations which needs to be followed before launching an ICO, a big forum like this could work on it.

It reduces the risk of meeting a bad project, but there's no 100% guarantee. So many times there were cases when people had said the project had been good but it turned out it was a scam. It becomes difficult to distinguish a real project from a scam cause fraudsters are very tricky today

I think that was not enough, it is really simple to make a face account on social media so I think scam ICO has the capacity to make a social media account with many followers. In my part I will always look for the team history and thier experience on building a sucessful ico before. If the team has already a good reputation and very transparent that will surely take an advantages to investors.

This is rather difficult although not impossible  in my opinion. most times even when the team claim to meet soft cap and hard  cab they still exit scam at last.
Although you may consider checking out for the team's  activeness on social media, the white paper and find out if what the have there is feasible.
Also, check the use case of their token  try to check if they are following their road map.

Although some of them write all sorts of convincing plans on their white paper yet still exit scam at last . But a thorough research might help a bit.

For example, most of the projects Amazix is running are pretty legit, but not all of them for sure. You must check them still.
I would consider security tokens, and as an example, Neufund platform (the only licensed one in EU) is running such, and they are about to bring 10 new projects.

I doubt legit projects would care themselves about making own bounties and all that hustle with answering day to day the same questions.

Personally, i cannot go for an ICO, whose team is using an anonymous identity. Most of the ICOs of such nature, that i have into, ended up being scam.
Although, that might not be so common when blockchain projects were still new, but seem now to be used by scam projects.
Revealing identity is nit also a guarantee of genuineness, because they might be using fake identity.

Why would I want to invest in a project with anonymous team?  Even the ones with a well known team still end up being scam, so investing in a project with anonymous team is suicidal because you don't know the persons in charge and their abilities to lead the project to success. I would rather invest my money in existing projects that have being confirmed legit.

Or sometimes some scammers use people who are not even related to the project. Don't forget to also do a little bit of research in to the project and know how useful it is.

We know that the project should be handled by the manager. I guess by that we can have an idea which is the real and fake project. In fact most of the time scam project are manage by unknown person and the legit one handled by the popular and trusted manager. Even the project is anonymous but through manager we can have a little assurance of reliability.

Now in future, SEC of USA is making a regulation towards the ico launching and without sec permission no ico will come in the market.

Knowing if an ICO is legit or not is like a trial and error. There are also things that you have to consider upon joining. You should do a series of research to make sure if the plans that they have for the future is possible for them to reach. You should also check the activeness of the developers that they have.

I believe that there is not so many people keep believing ICO's. To many scamming situation took our beliefs away. More than %75 ICO's turned scam in 2018 and it is terrible ratio. I would never invest a ICO project again. Daily trading is safer than investing projects. But if you want to make research about ICO's just go to ICO marks website, they are quite good at their reviews. https://icomarks.com/icos

There is many ICO information site which you can find many ICO and their information in those sites. Like icobench icorating and many more. But I will suggest you to follow icoanalytic this is one of the best site where you will find some really good icos. But still some of them are not good maybe scam or failed icos . So best thing is to do some research on your own. And learn how to analysis the ICOs. At this moment mostly no am not in icos but if you will able to find one I would say go for it and invest in that.

I have to admit that it is not the easiest of jobs trying to vet and an ICO for legitimacy. Personally, the first place I will start will be the whitepaper. I actually do carry out a critical examination of what the project has to offer or if the project is actually feasible. What I do admire most is when the team already has a working product independent of the ICO. The next in line for me is often the profile of the team members and then social media presence. I consider the amount of people following the project and how committed the team is to positive public opinion through regular updates.

Just read the whitepaper and check the team members profile and after this thing, you will get an idea about the project.

There are so many ICOs out there and this has made it very difficult to sometimes spot the good ones. Basically, i look at the team spearheading the project and follow up on their linkedin profiles to ensure that they are real and have the needed experience to actually make this project a successful one. You might also want to look at the vision and mission of the project and the use case behind it.

There is no specific way to find legit ICO. All you need to do before investing in any of the the ICO is that you have to make proper findings about the project and this can be done by knowing some particular things about the project like;
1.Number of their telegram group member
2.The mature of the project
3.softcap and hardcap
4.Team member  and
5. Total supply.

1. The number of people who believed in the project does not mean that the project is successful. For example, the project Spokzzz. For fraudsters is not a problem to unleash a group. So I would not be operating on this item at all.

2. Softcap and hardcap
This is also not a guarantee. If you look at the company's website, this information is easy to fake. So this is also not credible. Of course, this is a good symbol, but you should not rely only on the cap.

it won't be that easy. because if you only see a few parts of the information notified in the whitepaper, you might be subject to manipulation. I personally always look at all parts and read the whitepaper slowly to find the purity of an ICO. and it's bad if you do not read at all about the whitepaper but only on some websites it will make you more easily fooled

And that's just the reason why I think that, there's no particular way of identifying if an ico is legit or not, you find a lot of projects with anonymous organizers being a successful one, even heard that no one knows the founder of bitcoin and is team at first but they succeed. So I think it more like luck these days you only predict.

It seems to me that the scammers have really gone to a whole new level, that it is very difficult to distinguish them among all new projects. And the market of ico companies continues to suffer even more problems due to fraudsters and I believe that this is the basis, Why investors leave the market of ico companies for trading exchanges.

There is no guaranteed way yet, but there a a level of confidence one can have on a project, depending on how much you have researched about the. Some scam projects did not quit after ICO, some of them listed on exchange and dumped their tokens on investors. This is why i am always concerned about so many factors, including the total supply and the amount the team is holding. If they have so much in their possession, then you need to be careful.

There are much less ICOs in 2019, I am an ICO marketing manager, and several of my partners canceled their ICO plan...

If you want to know which is legit, I would suggest to search for project that are already going on and never done any ICO nor they have any premine, instamine or founder taxes. This way the funds are not pre-allocated to certain sum.

In addition, these projects are already in development and are much less likely to be a scam.

1. BitTorrent (https://www.bittorrent.com/) (Though somebod will not agree and said it is too hyped project)
2. Marconi Protocol (https://marconi.org/)
3. StarkWare (https://www.starkware.co/)

5. Oasis Labs (https://www.oasislabs.com/)

exactly! so i don't think there is a sure way to tell if project will turn out to be a scam or not, doing research or background check on the team and the overall project it's just a part of the process, that dosent really guarantee the authenticity of the project, i see a project that did not hold an ico, only did airdrop to supporters, already list on exchange and cmc but still turned out to be scam,  through ico is not the only way to scam people.

For a fact it's very difficult to know which ICO is actually legit or scam, but there are some parameters to look out for. Firstly, do a thorough background check on the team members and also try to know whether they are capable. Look out for their partners and maybe find out from them if truly they partnered with the project or if it's false. Another aspect is if they have a working product or an MVP, does the product solve the said problem and is it in line with the project vision?.  Also the token economics, the amount of tokens reserved for the team is it too large? The price per token is it high or low with respect to the total supply? What's the lock period for team and private investors tokens/coins ? . These are some of the things to note but not limited to these.

There are a lot of legitimate ICOs with legitimate intention to create a product and provide services. The problem is, the bear-market is making it difficult for the team to get the amount they need to develop their project, thus, making it difficult for them to finish their product on time. Try to read thru the white paper and check the team's eligibility to check whether it is legitimate or not.

I would try to avoid projects whose developers do not disclose their identities. Among the fraudulent ICO, most projects differ in that they do not disclose the identity of the developers, or use someone else's data. Therefore, try to choose ICOS whose team is open to the community and does not hide their faces.

there are several ways to see whether an ICO is legit or not, the answer is:
1. Look at the results of reviews of expert ICO reviews such as trackico, coingecho, iconow etc.
2. Look at famous newspapers that have posted news about the project such as Yahoo Finance, Yahoo News
3. Looking at partnerships on the project
4. History of the project team
5. Look at the project's objectives and roadmap
I think by analyzing the above points it will help many people to choose legit ICO

It's not difficult but it's very difficult. Determine a real project or do not require detailed inspection. The team becomes the first indicator to be examined, then continues to the partnership, after which it checks the news about the project in trusted media, then to another thing that can identify the truth.

They can claim it as a good one by giving up a medium which do have lots of people on it but on the other side it isnt really active or doesnt

Everything what is listed on Binance launchpad showed a good progress. Today I wanted to buy Celer, but I clicked too late (around 15 sec after the sale? - because there was a tehchnical problem due to overload), so I missed this big opportunity (Only 4m hard cap)  ::)

If in the near future the situation with IEO will become more and more trusted, I am sure that they will still be able to really make a very big and huge plus in favor of investing in the cryptocurrency industry. You understand this, if not, you must understand.
well, actually I don't really understand the IEO, but I know that is the progress of the ICO, and it works with the exchanger. well, this makes investor confidence higher, because sometimes one of ICO's targets is to work with a popular exchanger.

Suppose if there are a number of ICOs started for different coins by anonymous developers then how can we find that which one the legit ICO and which one is scam ICO?

Just avoid to investing in anonymous ICO team, better safe than sorry my friend.
Deep research about the ICO company is required to know if they are real or scam.
So, the important thing is about the time, you must have enough time to analyze the ICO to avoid fraud projects.

even with a complete ico team and developers and plans that are fairly mature, not necessarily 100% gives us confidence for profit. It is a pity that more and more Ico scams and that is obviously very detrimental.

Because celer has raised 30 million on its crowdsale before binance listed it into the launch pad platform. I guess you can see that through icodrop. So many big whales will get a lot of money instantly from this one dude.

to determine which Ico is legit and a difficult Scam.
for me it's like gambling.
but we in this forum are the biggest crypto community and here a lot of new ICOs are emerging.
I personally choose very selectively.
I read in which many forum members were great at discussing.
I also see the development of the Exchange in the future.
the point is I studied first.

it is true that the existence of this forum provides a lot of benefits for all of us to be more careful and careful in choosing ICO so that we are not wrong in choosing and scam, hopefully the future of crypto will be more advanced and there will be no ICO scam.

To determine if a project is scam or legit is quite very difficult to be precise. The projects that was tagged scam, turned out to be the best project and the ones they said was authentic scammed.  So in a nutshell, it is quite very difficult as I stated earlier

Indeed, its like speculation. Rating website is just an opinion from website market or analysis. Right now, its more better join in IEO, its more legits and exchanger already make research about the project. I think IEO will disrupt ICO in near future

You better stop investing in ICO because it's not clear and now I recommend investing in IEO which is better than Iico, yesterday's success in doing it, it didn't even take long and was very fast.

Many ICOs now looks like legit but it is a scam so we have to be more careful of founding the good ICOs they must have complete documents like website, whitepaper, roadmap, smart contract and the team should be visible and they have more on experience.

Its hard to find a legit ICO and thats why i am prefer buying when already landed in exchanger. Sometimes buying in exchanger more cheaper than buying when ICO because many hunters dump the token

Choose an ICO with an existing product, check everyone in the team as much as possible, pay attention to their previous experience. Conduct a study of the product: whether it is in demand, and whether it can overcome the difficulties of an unfavorable market.

ico is legitimate or looks very convincing, what happens is the opposite, if I personally see the market in bad conditions like now, I prefer ico whose tokens already have this exchange is good to follow, so there's no need to wait for the exchange again when ico is finished.

I always see from several sources namely this forum, ICO rank and telegram group discussions, and I am always vigilant even though an ICO has a high rank but the telegram group is not active.
As a smart investor you wont really just rely only on one source yet there are really lots of shills out there about a certain ICO.
They can claim it as a good one by giving up a medium which do have lots of people on it but on the other side it isnt really active or doesnt
really have any people at all. About ICO ranking sites, i dont usually trust them yet those sites can be paid up just to hype a certain ICO.
- Ico's ranking sites are always unreliable, lots of evidence that they have linked with the project developers, they help advertise and appreciate the project, developers will pay them some fees, trusting these sites will be a mistake, a wise investor will never believe in others. There are many different sources and factors for a person to evaluate an ico but want to affirm that it is legal is impossible, everything just stops at relative, however, we can start looking for legitimate projects recently when the IEO is becoming a symbol for that

As without serious and very tough control? I think that there will not be without analysis, which we will simply need. I am sure that before choosing a project you need to do a lot of work and you will understand what is happening and begin to understand the market again.

Everything is very, very not simple, and you should immediately understand that you can never be sure and even if someone guarantees you that you can really invest and you don’t need to believe these people. I'm sure you already understood that.

Well before you invest in an ICO, it's best to do your research. Ask around especially on thier telegram group, watch their engagement with the public. That way u will be able to make a less risky investment in an ICO.

it's easy to find the legit of ico just looking at icobench this is the best way to find out if ico is legit but it does not end to know ico if it's legit or can not just look at their website if it's legit admins or copies on another website and the last one is to look at the token sale if they have been raised and how many members in their group know how to find out if ico is legit or scam because that ico scam and their claims are investors so it's too hard to join ico because of the size of the risky so you just have the courage to get the ico to earn but there are also ways to earn like in the bounty and in trading.

I am starting with its whitepaper and the roadmap. If I find that they goals seems to be realistic, I am doing a further investigation of their team members and the product development level. The last step is to ensure that they have a legit community.

A few things to consider to know if an ICO is legitimate. First, team strength - are there industry experts, legal advisers, people with past success, marketers, and of course developers? Are team members transparent and with a social media presence? Second, token strength - is the ecosystem created with multiple uses for the token? Is there an escrow mechanism in place? Then check its technology - is a security plan outlined? have previous bugs/problems been resolved? Is code open source with activity in GitHub? Is there a prototype and how is that going? Lastly, their solution - What solution does the project solve? Is the problem real and the solution feasible? Now, with all of these considered, I'd recommend you to invest in Bitrus (BTRS), award-winning trading platform with a lot of benefits and new features.
