I’m pleased to announce DividendRippler.com (https://www.dividendrippler.com) (DR), an anonymous ripple gateway. The gateway’s function is to create and destroy ripple IOUs on demand. No logins or passwords. Not described in this post, but DR will also create and maintain custom listed and unlisted assets by users (link (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=180712.0))

The gateway is simple:
•   DR ties one of its own BTC/LTC/TRC addresses to each ripple address. IOUs are created and sent to your ripple account when specie payment comes to these addresses.
•   Similarly, DR ties your BTC/LTC/TRC addresses to a ripple address. When an IOU is sent to DR’s ripple address (using the assigned destination tag), the IOU is destroyed and specie payment is made to your client.

First time setup:
•   Add the contact ‘rfYv1TXnwgDDK4WQNbFALykYuEBnrR4pDX’ to the ripple wallet,  named “DividendRippler.com”
•   Trust DividendRippler.com for the currencies in the amount you wish to use. (BTC, LTC and TRC).
•   Enter your ripple receiving address (r…) into the search bar on the DividendRippler.com website.
•   Enter BTC/LTC/TRC addresses you wish to have specie payments returned. You don’t have to enter all 3 at this time; they can be added / edited later.
•   Clicking ‘register’ will lock edit functions for 5 minutes. During this time, you must send 1 XRP to rfYv1TXnwgDDK4WQNbFALykYuEBnrR4pDX?dt=1 from the ripple address requesting changes. If this is not done, the edit will fail.
•   Take note of your account number (destination tag), this is what you will need to get specie payment.

Issuing an IOU:
•   Send specie payment to the address created by DR for the given ripple address. These addresses will not change, so feel free to give it out to others to receive payments.
•   6 confirms required for all chains.
•   Once confirmed, the IOU will be issued in the ripple address.
•   If there was not enough trust for the IOU, the status will change to ‘error’. Give adequate trust and then flag the server to try again by sending 1 XRP to rfYv1TXnwgDDK4WQNbFALykYuEBnrR4pDX?dt=1. You won’t get your XRP back.

Redeeming an IOU:
•   Send the IOU back to DR’s ripple address (rfYv1TXnwgDDK4WQNbFALykYuEBnrR4pDX?dt=<account number>) will redeem it.
•   Using the destination tag (?dt=) directs DR on where to return the specie payment.
•   No fees to send the IOU back to DR. Keep this in mind. If the receiver of the IOU is going to convert to specie, it will be cheaper to send the IOU directly to DR.

Notes on trust
•   Only trust DR for the amount you are comfortable with in total balance. Consider the trust line can be exhausted at any time with no action by you.
•   No trust is needed to destroy an IOU. This means you don’t have to trust DR in order to accept specie payment from DR IOUs!

Fees:
Users will pay 3 fees when using DR.
1)   Ripple: While there is no fee to create an IOU and no fee to destroy an IOU issued by DR, fees are charged when IOUs are transferred to another ripple address. DividendRippler.com has set a maximum fee of 0.19%. The fees charged will not increase beyond 0.19% without a 30 day notice on the front page of DividendRippler.com. That said, DividendRippler is launching with a 0.15% fee, and reserves the right to lower or raise this fee without prior notice (up to 0.19%).
2)   When an IOU is redeemed, the end user will pay all chain fees if required. Example, destroying a 5.0000 BTC IOU may only return 4.9995 in the user’s client. This fee is payable to the network, not DR.
3)   The XRPs needed to communicate with the DR servers for setup and retries.

2013-05-20 Update: Chain fees are now fixed, which is the minimum fee requirement. DividendRippler.com will pick up any additional fees. BTC 0.0005, LTC 0.1000, TRC 0.0000, NMC 0.005.


Security:
•   Without giving details, we have created a redundant system. The web front end is separated from the server.
•   Please keep valid redemption address at all times. We may (or may have already) implemented a security feature which returns IOUs in an emergency.
•   The redemption addresses should only be pointed to addresses you control. If pointed to other address and coins are redeemed to your ripple account, specie coins will not come to your client.

Issues:
•   Transaction fees are paid by receiver as required. You can’t send an exact specie amount, because fees will be paid according to network requirements.
•   We have plans to implement a hard cap on the maximum fee, but currently not supported. If you need to move large amounts and don’t want to pay the fee, you will need to redeem the IOU and take specie payment. Remember you can also redeem the IOU with receiver’s destination tag to avoid fees.
•   While possible, it is not suggested to use DR to send specie payments to a merchant using your own ripple address. It is cumbersome, insecure, and exact fees cannot be calculated beforehand. However, please ask them to support ripple and DR IOUs!
•   DO NOT USE DividendRippler to play satoshidice or similar games where you need to control the sending address. It will not work.

If the markets are deep enough, here are some ripple tricks to try:
•   Try depositing BTC into Bitstamp without trusting Bitstamp.
•   Try depositing USD or BTC into Bitstamp with LTC. (Requires LTC markets – anyone?)
•   Send a BTC tip to my client, with whatever currency you happen to have at the time: rfYv1TXnwgDDK4WQNbFALykYuEBnrR4pDX?dt=100000304
•   Get yourself a physical silver dime by sending me a DYM (PM me first is best).

I want to stress that it is important to name rfYv1TXnwgDDK4WQNbFALykYuEBnrR4pDX as "DividendRippler.com". This is due to the fact that XRP sent from your ripple address changes our servers. A 3rd party may convince you to send 1 XRP to "his" address, when really he is changing your account information.

Either I did something wrong, or it didn't work for me.... First it told me to try again later (something was offline, I don't remember the exact error message)...  I pressed back and tried again... Now it says "Registration is pending confirmation" and asks for 1 xrp  (though I am pretty sure I've sent it).

It also shows some Issue Addresses and says that Redemption Addresses are "none" (though I specified them).

Btw, what is Issue Addresses?

Thanks for testing it out. The "try again later" message was probably just a warning that all processing was a few seconds old. I'm trying to understand the workflow, you entered your ripple address in the search bar. From there, you had the option to enter a BTC/LTC/TRC address (not necessary if you don't want to redeem IOUs in DR). Hitting 'register' should prompt you to send 1 XRP to the dividend rippler address with ?dt=1.

You may be all set up. If you see issue addresses, then you definitely are set up! An issue address is how you create a DR IOU in your ripple address. Sending to that address gives you ripple credits. Sending from ripple to DR's ripple address destroys the IOU and you will receive funds at the redemption addresses.

You do realize this is not a XRP giveaway, right? There is currently a BTC/LTC/TRC giveaway (in DividendRippler IOUs) going on to have the community help on beta testing, but you need to be able to get yourself a ripple account and fund it with XRP on your own :)

The Destination Tag: We have a gateway address to which you can send ripple stuff, like when you want to redeem IOUs you already hold. For us to know which account you want to withdraw to we require you add that information using the destination tag, which is a ?dt=xxx after the gateway address (xxx is a number).

There is one special case, ?dt=1 which is used to trigger actions on DR, like confirming you really want to register your ripple address with us.

How far are you in the process? Do you have any specific problem we can help with (other than lack of XRP)?

You mean a destination tag? As seen in https://ripple.com/wiki/Require_a_destination_tag_for_inbound_payments that's something you add to the address you are sending to in the form ?dt=<destination tag>

DividendRippler.com supports 3 types of destination tags, two static and one dynamic:
 - ?dt=0 is a 'wishing well', anything you send there is considered a donation. We use this for testing stuff, don't send anything there unless you want to give it to us
 - ?dt=1 is the 'trigger', used to signal you own an address and approve of pending changes or wish to retry a deposit after fixing the trust lines
 - ?dt=1xxxxxxxx is the redeem destination tag, there's a different one for each registered ripple address on the site. You send IOUs to your specific dtag and the appropriate funds are sent to the chain addresses you have registered for BTC, LTC or TRC.

You can think of DR's address as the routing number (rfYv1TXnwgDDK4WQNbFALykYuEBnrR4pDX), and the destination tag as an account number. When you wire funds in the banking system, you send the IOUs to another bank, but you also need the account number at the bank on where they should go, otherwise you are just sending funds to the bank itself.

The dt set for each address can be found by putting in the ripple address in the search bar on the DividendRippler.com site. dts are assigned when registered.

Yes, you can trade. In ripple, advanced -> trade. To trade dividendrippler.com ious, you will need to set the issuer to dividendrippler (rfYv1TXnwgDDK4WQNbFALykYuEBnrR4pDX) and most likely bitstamp if trading vs USD.

For trading BTC (dividendrippler) vs XRP, advanced->trade. Select BTC/XRP. Set issuer to DividendRippler.com. The market will be displayed under "order book". The order entry is pretty straight forward, enter how many BTC you are willing to part with for XRP. There is a tab for "Buy BTC" and one for "Sell BTC".

OK, so far so good, done some trading and got various coin in the wallet.

Can you confirm something for me.

As I understand it, while I may have XRP in my wallet, I don't actually have BTC or LTC etc but an IOU for that amount from an issuing provider /gateway.

When I pass them on to a third party presumably that party has to trust my wallet for the amount, which in turn confers trust back on the issuer eg DividendRippler.com or Bistamp etc.

So what is set up is a chain of trust back to the original issuer?

So the wallet cannot hold BTC directly and I cannot redeem into the Ripple wallet only back to an original source (such as a real BTC wallet or a Voucher or a bank)?

Have I got these right?

So the web of trust is basically as good as the originating gateway which actually holds the BTC or USD etc that I have put in.

On the other hand the transactions at ripple level are near instantaneous.

yes, dividendrippler.com holds the physical BTC, LTC, TRC in our wallets. Your ripple wallet holds the IOUs from dividendrippler.


When you pass dividendrippler IOUs to a 3rd party, that party does not have to trust you at all, nor you trust the 3rd party. But they do have to trust dividendrippler to be able to redeem the IOU, as the IOUs are not able to be counterfeit. It is different in real life - if I paid you with a coupon for a free BigMac, you might question the IOU is authentic (did I print it up on my color printer?). In ripple, you need to trust McDonalds for delivering on the BigMac, because its provable they issued it.

In this sense, I wouldn't describe it as a chain of trust. In fact, you can pay someone with your DividendRippler IOUs that doesn't trust DividendRippler. If that person trusts Bitstamp, ripple will find someone who trusts DividendRippler AND Bitstamp, and adjust their balances so that payment can be made.

In effect the interrelated matrix of mutually trusting issuers is the guarantee that is passed on when I pay someone from my wallet.  And everybody has to trust somebody somewhere.

I do hope this takes off.

I am not allowed to hold more of a currency from yourselves than I have given explicit trust for.

I can have a more of a currency if I have two sources, so 10BTC from you and 10BTC from Bitstamp means I can have up to 20BTC but no more.

Since all the XRP trades (other than OTC trades) are done within Ripple I'll assume you mean trades of BTC/Bitstamp:XRP vs trades of BTC/DividendRippler:XRP both on Ripple. You can look at the charts like https://ripplecharts.com/market/BTC:Bitstamp/XRP but as far as I know there isn't a chart anywhere for DividendRippler. You can get the full BTC/DividendRippler order book from within Ripple or you can just look at the latest ask/bid pair at https://dividendrippler.com

Currently, the most active BTC/XRP market is the BTC/Bitstamp one and the most active USD/XRP market is the USD/Bitstamp one.
DividendRippler however has the currently most active LTC and TRC related markets within Ripple.

Depositing BTC into the Issue Address has worked flawlessly. Got it in my Ripple account and was able to trade with it.

But going back seems to be broken (atm?). I sent some amount of BTC DR IOUs to the Redeem address (including the correct dt). The amount has been deducted from my Ripple account. But one hour later not even a sign of incoming BTC is showing on my BTC wallet, nor is the transaction listed on the DR website Recently Redeemed.

I know intermittently "the processing system is currently offline", so maybe that's the issue? It wasn't offline when I submitted the funds though. Any outlook on when I will receive the BTC? If needed I can pm the Ripple transaction number.

I assume yours is the transaction that was marked 'retained'. Can you send me a link or a hash that allows me to verify?

There is one transaction that has been wrongly marked retained and I'm investigating why that happened. The 'currently offline' we are trying to resolve so it doesn't happen so often, but while annoying it shouldn't have any relation to these issues.

In the meantime I found somebody trying to update my redemption addresses so I'd like to report this as a sort of security issue: Anybody can read the ripple addresses on the front page and fill them in in the search bar, then edit the redemption addresses. Obviously the "victim" still needs to send 1XRP to DR for the changes to take effect, but this is a fairly small step for somebody who doesn't yet understand the system I think.

In my case somebody tried to change all three addresses to "3", which I guess would have led nowhere even if I accepted them. But playing around with this a little more it seems like I can fill in anything for those addresses. I imagine the next attacker will fill in his BTC address, and then two lines reading something like "Network security issue." "Please update to the indicated addresses." I am sure some people will fall for it.

Well, just to let you know... Maybe stress somewhere to ONLY send 1 XRP if you are *absolutely* certain you changed them yourself. Also, *not* to change them shortly after a transaction, because chances of people picking up your account from the frontpage are rather large.

Yeah, we most certainly need to get a better workflow there. All ideas are welcome at this stage, of course, and the only thing we really want to avoid is forcing users to register with passwords and personal data although we might end up allowing that option in addition to the system in place.

The one change I haven't introduced yet but is in the make is getting away with the 1 XRP fixed value and instead using a random value for registration/change. This makes it slightly better but doesn't resolve the problem, of course.

The way redeeming works has changed, where we used to charge whatever fee the network would require for a transaction we are now only charging a fixed fee, which for now will be the minimum fee required:

BTC - 0.0005
LTC - 0.1000
TRC - 0.0000

FYI, there is no auto refresh. I spent 10 minutes with the registration pending page open before I searched for my address on another tab to find that it had indeed been registered.

Things I can think of so quickly:
- when in edit state mention the IP address that issued the edit and when.
- if the IP address doesn't match your IP address print a big fat red warning message.
- during the period your account is in edit state, don't allow another edit. (is this already the case?)

IP address warnings are not trivial to implement given the current architecture of the system, but certainly something I'll try to push for.
There already is a single edit per 5 minute period limit, so you don't have someone change the addresses behind your back before you have a chance to ack the change.

What about non-DR IOUs, is it possible to send Bitstamp IOUs to DR’s ripple address?
(without risk of instantly getting a bad conversion rate for the specie when there is no liquid DR-IOU/Bitstamp-IOU market)

Yes, you can send Bitstamp BTC IOUs to a DR ripple address to get the actual BTC in the client. What really happens is ripple finds someone who trusts DR and Bitstamp for BTC, and swaps balances so that you can withdraw the DR IOUs. The conversion rate is 1:1, there is no bid/ask between bitstamp and DR. This is why the Trade Fortress "BTC giveaway" was so dangerous. Ripple will find someone who trusts Trade Fortress and DR (or Trade Fortress and Bitstamp) and swap IOUs in their account, replacing good IOUs with worthless Trade Fortress IOUs.

Note you have to pay bitstamp the transfer fee (they charge 0.20%). So if you have 1.000 BTC in Bitstamp, you can withdraw 0.998 BTC to a DividendRippler BTC address.

So what are IOUs and what does this website basically let me do? In layman terms, please.

Instead of owning a bitcoin, you give it to DR, and we give you a promise to pay (an IOU) for the bitcoin! This is counter-intuitive, as the reason many here on the forums were attracted to bitcoin for the ability to control their money. Granted, an IOU of 1.0 bitcoins < 1.0 bitcoins. But the value lost in specie vs IOUs is made up in the services that can be provided by the ripple network.

As much as we hate banks, most of us keep balances at a bank for a few reasons. It may be safer to keep $20,000 as an IOU at the local bank rather than keep 200 $100 bills at your house (theft/fire). It is easier to pay your bills with bank IOUs with checks, ACH, or bill pay than running around town with cash. Sending large amounts of money via bank wire across the country is best with the banking system of IOUs, rather than sending wads of cash via UPS.

To sum up, DR is a gateway that lets you get your BTC/LTC/TRC/NMC into and out of ripple IOUs on demand. Safe and automated.

Solutions that gateways, such as DividendRippler can provide:

* Safety. Having some of your BTC locked away at DR can make your portfolio safer than keeping it on a local machine.
* Due to double spends, merchants will value a BTC IOU from a trusted gateway > a random stranger specie BTC. Think vending machines, coffee shops, etc where waiting for confirms is not possible. Similar to green
addresses.
* Merchants and customers no longer have to agree on a currency to base the transaction. **This is huge** How many threads have you read "so and so just started accepting bitcoin!". Pfft. With ripple, a merchant can accept Sweedish Krona, and the customer can pay with Litecoin. Ripple finds someone who prefers Krona to Litecoin and makes the trade.

Ripple has message signing mechanism similar to bitcoin. Just wait till there is support in the client.

OK, I've been able to move a small quantity of LTC into my Ripple wallet via DR.  So far this has cost me 3 XRPs,  1 to establish trust, another one to update my redemption address and another to send the LTC to DR.  I'm a bit lost when it comes to the redeeming process.  What do I do and what will it cost me to:

1.  Redeem this amount in BTC into my Bitcoin wallet?

2.  Redeem this amount in LTC into my Litecoin wallet?


Also, curious about the back-end of DR, is this a custom server/service that is interacting with Ripple, LTC, BTC, TRC wallets or is it an instance of Rippled?

Redeeming costs only the fees to the appropriate chain, these are described in https://dividendrippler.com/fees

As for the back-end it is a completely custom service that interfaces with our own local rippled, bitcoind, litecoind and terracoind servers.

Sorry your correct, only 2 ripples.  The third one was sent to establish my BTC redemption address.  I'm confused by the
" To Redeem   Transfer your Ripple funds to"  line followed by your ripple address and the destination tag ?dt=1xxxxx".  Should there not
be 2 of these address with destination tags since I have LTC and BTC redemption addresses?  If I send XRP to this address, does this solicit
a payment to my wallets?  if so which one BTC or LTC?  also how much to send?

When you deliver an LTC IOU back to DividendRippler's ripple address, DividendRippler sends the stored LTC to the LTC address on record (specified by the dt=xxxxx). Similarly, when you deliver a BTC IOU created by DividendRippler, a BTC is sent. You would not want to deliver XRP to DividendRippler, it is only used for verification when changing addresses.

Keep in mind that what you send and what is delivered is not necessarily the same. You can send XRP from your client, but if BTC are delivered to DividendRippler at a specific dt=xxxxx address, this flags DividendRippler to send a specie payment to the dt=xxxxx on record, regardless of what was sent.

OK, I think I understand now..   I sent back .01 LTC IOU from my ripple wallet, the current status of this redemption is "retained".  I assume this is because your Fee for LTC redemption is 0.1?  Had I had enough of LTC IOU to cover this fee the balance would have made it to my LTC wallet right?

Yeah, the 0.01 is basically lost. Ripple controls who owns the IOUs - 0.01 was sent in for redemption to the issuer, and no longer exists. Since the fee is 0.10, there is nothing to send.

I'm missing something. Trusted the address, registered the account, sent the 1 XRP.... Then what? Everything looks fine, but how would I trade? Using the Trade option in ripple.com doesn't show up on the page, sending ripples to my account ?dt= just gets automatically refunded... So what's the next step?

DividendRippler doesn't hold XRP. The trading isn't done on DividendRippler's site, it is done on the ripple network. You need to bring up the BTC/XRP market in ripple, making sure the issuer of BTC is DividendRippler.

I believe currently DividendRippler only makes issuing/inbound payments if there is sufficient direct trust. Have you considered instead allowing any ripple payment path that doesn't have fees? Either always or with a per address DR flag or something.

I suppose if you implemented the bridging protocol (https://ripple.com/wiki/Services_API#Bridge_protocol) this might not be a problem/concern but currently someone might have sufficient BTC trust among friends who trust DR but their incoming blockchain payments are limited due to their BTC/DR trust.

DividendRippler now supports NMC!

Everyone that has registered will have a new NMC issue address and can set their NMC redeem address. Don't forget to trust DR for NMC before you try to issue!

The redeem fees are fixed at 0.005 NMC which will used as tx fees for the outgoing transaction.

Sorry about that. Sometimes ledgers are incompletely processed and I have to manually apply them. Rest assured that everything gets applied, but sometimes it takes a little while. I'm working on understanding why this is, but I was to date unable to trigger this behaviour on demand and it doesn't happen often enough to allow me to properly debug.

If it happens again just post here or PM me and I'll get things rolling right away, but even without any heads up I check for these cases very regularly.

No trouble at all, it's just that ripple takes a long time to resync when it is off for any significant period of time. That has been improved, I believe, in the newer release candidates but unfortunately those aren't quite production ready yet.

I have issued 3 BTC payments to Dividend Rippler.  The first 2 have come back as "Failed Payments", Status: "error", these were sent from my blockchain wallet.  The BTC is no longer in my wallet and when I check the bitcoin address on blockchain it shows that they have 53 confirmations.  The third payment has gone through and is in my ripple wallet, this payment was sent from localbitcoins.com.

The trust I have given DividendRippler.com is well over the total of BTC I've sent.  I have been trying to send 1 XRP to rfYv1TXnwgDDK4WQNbFALykYuEBnrR4pDX?dt=1 a few times since the error and nothing has happened.

Unfortunately there's still a good deal about the ripple network and software that we're still learning to deal with, and the fact it is in rapid development doesn't help our case a bit. That said, the DR system was coded to default to manual intervention whenever there's any ambiguity in what the proper action is, and that's what happened to you (and others).

But fear not, it was just waiting on us to be double safe. Let us know if there's any additional trouble.

DividendRippler does not allow for trading, it is a gateway. In order to use it you need to have a funded account, thus you'll need some XRP to boot. If you want to buy XRP with BTC from DR you can only do this after your account gets the initial funding, I'm afraid.

There are many giveaways on https://ripple.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=17 and help for newbies is offered extensively at https://ripple.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=5. Particularly https://ripple.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=2034 might be a good place to get your initial XRP if you are ready to pay back the offer to someone else once you get funded.

In general, when you have currencies issued by Dividendrippler (regardless who "gave" them to you) you can trade them within Ripple (of course only against corresponding trade orders).
Finally, you can withdraw them using Dividendrippler.
Within DR, you need to set a withdrawal address for each virtual currency. Look at

to see and change the DividendRippler settings for your account.
When you have set the redemption address for your LTC or BTC wallet, you can send DividendRippler LTC or BTC to the DividendRippler account (rfYv1TXnwgDDK4WQNbFALykYuEBnrR4pDX) with the destination tag given on the DR settings page. They will be forwarded (minus the DR withdrawal fee which 0.1 LTC or 0.0001 BTC) as real LTC or BTC into your wallet.

DividendRippler is not an exchange, it does not hold XRP. The exchange is in ripple itself. DividendRippler can exchange BTC for an IOU of a BTC (and vise-versa).

It looks like you sent 420 XRP directly to DividendRippler, not to a specific account (which would be automatically refunded). This is similar to writing a check made out to "Bank of America" when you really want to send it to an account holder at the Bank. I'll verify and send the XRP back.

Yes, you'll use the trade option in ripple (warning: the order book was down for the past day or so in the default client).

IOU = "I Owe You" - which makes more sense in english ;D 

Ripple doesn't move any physical assets (such as gold, bitcoins, USD, CNY, etc), but rather a specific receipt for that asset held by a gateway. DividendRippler is one of the gateways.

Sounds like you will need someone to trade xrp for nmc, which is not done by DR, but by others on the ripple network. If you send NMC to your personal nmc address in DR, DR will issue you a receipt for those NMC.

DR doesn't make any markets in XRP.

It looks like english is not your native language (don't bother, it's not my native language either)
But you should make it a little clearer what you want to achieve.

If you want to sell NMC and get XRP for them using the trade mechanism, you need to do this:
1. send the NMC to the dividendrippler NMC issue address.
2. you'll receive the DR NMC in your ripple wallet.
3. to sell them for XRP:
  - go to the "Trade" page of the ripple,
  - enter "NMC/XRP" as the currency pair,
  - click on "Change issuer" and enter the dividendrippler ripple address (rfYv1TXnwgDDK4WQNbFALykYuEBnrR4pDX)
  then you'll see the order book for this currency.

Note that the orders are pretty thin at the moment, you can only buy about 29.5 XRP for 0.1 NMC, the other offers are much worse. But of course, you can enter an order with a price that you consider appropriate even if there is currently nobody selling XRP at that price. Maybe some time later someone will, although the market seems to be too small at the moment.

You can also try the "Convert" option on the main page, where you could enter how many XRP you want to receive, and ripple will calculate how much in each currency that you have it would cost.

I have been using Dividend Rippler for a few weeks now and I have to say I love the transmission from my ripple account to my Bitcoin app wallet I find the process quick and easy to understand (now that is it took me a little thinking to understand it at first ...lol) though in saying that I made a transfer last night  and I received the transaction in my Bitcoin wallet ..(though took an hour to go through) ....than I did another one maybe more than an hour ago and I still have not received the transaction...Have there been any reason for the long delays ?

Yeah, we've had sync issues between DR and Ripple. I'm going to try and kick it right now. Sorry for the delay and thanks for using DR!

To everyone suffering from the extended delays, we're really sorry about it. The system has a few safeguards that lock it when anything unexpected happens, and can only be unlocked manually after we review things. Add that to a complete lack of time I've had today and you have the reason for this last delay.

Usually it is just losing sync with the ripple network, the resync process can take a few hours.

I went through the "First Time Set-Up"(pg. 1/message 1 of this thread) last night...no registration success yet.  Does the DR front page message of "The processing system is currently offline, data may not be up to date!" mean that my registration won't complete until the "processing system" comes back up?  Thanks.

(I am unable to send Bitcoin currently...due to BitStamp problem)...then DR issues a new IOU for Bitcoin?  Then I "redeem" the IOU by "sending"?? it back to DR?  And then DR sends the Bitcoin to my personal address?  No offense "TTBit", but if someone could simplify the "Issuing an IOU:" & the "Redeeming an IOU:" sections I should appreciate it! No problem.

If actual bitcoins are sent (by you, bitstamp, or anyone) to the issuing address that DR has for your ripple account (1ABCd....), DR will issue you an IOU that you can see in ripple.

If you then wish to have actual bitcoins and not DR IOUs, you send the DR IOUs to DR's ripple address (rfYv1TXnwgDDK4WQNbFALykYuEBnrR4pDX). But you probably see a problem - DR has a few hundred accounts, how do you tell DR to redeem to the specific bitcoin address you provided? The answer is to include the destination tag (dt) when sending. Your dt is a 9 digit account number. The first 7 digits are the account number and the last 2 are a mild checksum. example: ?dt=100039417, the dt is 100039417

Bitstamp -> DR ious should ripple through to your wallet. but if you have tradefortress or cousin larry ious, a path probably wont be found.

Yep, I have Bitcoin IOU's in BitStamp & another gateway called "JustCoin" in my Ripple wallet, but I cannot use the "Send" function of Ripple to send any "Bitcoin/IOU's" (real Bitcoin) from my Ripple wallet due to "Error while retrieving quote for outbound payment" errors for the last 2 1/2 weeks (apparently a Bitstamp problem caused by their "fix" for the DoS attack of 2-11-14 or so).  My next try is to remove the "trust" for BitStamp and see if the "paths" repair themselves.  If I have to use the "Send" function of Ripple to get Bitcoin to DR then I am out of luck I guess. It is just that other people have said they have successfully used DR to get around the BitStamp path problem.

OK, after messing around some more I got it to work! No sending to an "issuing address" at DR or anything, I just sent BTC to DR's main address w/my destination tag, I received no "Error while retrieving quote for outbound payment" error and the BTC showed up in my personal wallet!   ;D  Thanks for putting up w/me.

Sorry about the hiccup. Your transaction was sent to the ripple daemon, which is why the tx hash was present in the details page but then it was never confirmed (nor denied), which left it in a limbo state. I have resent it and I'll work on trying to prevent this from happening again.

why satus = ERROR or PENDING

It seems to be DONE now. Just to explain, PENDING is when it is still being processed, or it has been processed and the system is waiting for confirmation from the ripple network or coin chain. ERROR may or may not be fatal, meaning something went wrong. Some errors are automatically retried (such as when there's a high load on the server and ripple refuses to process transactions because it is too busy), while others need manual intervention.

For those of you on the higher notches of the "healthy paranoia" dial, we have changed the IP address for https://dividendrippler.com. It might take a day or two to propagate but most will be already seeing the new server @ 178.62.229.242

As it has been pretty obvious, DividendRippler has been lagging behind for the past 3 or 4 days. Our rippled instance has been struggling to keep up with the network for unknown reasons.

What is not common knowledge is that we have been preparing a major update to DR behind the scenes for a few months and while it still lacks some testing we were waiting on the Stellar network to get stable (yes, Stellar support is part of the update) before finishing up and going live.

Unfortunately the version of DR that is lagging behind (lets call it old version) depends on a not up to date version of rippled and does signing of transactions using RPC, so we can't really use external rippled servers securely, which is another part that got updated on the new DR version, so a decision had to be made; at the rate currently sustained it will take DR another 4 days just to retrieve the ledger history and there's no guarantee that history will not become corrupt like it has in the past, forcing us to start from scratch.

The alternative is to get the beta quality new DR version live, and manually process transactions until we're sure it is safe. We wanted to make a full announcement with a timeline and all, but since DR isn't really working that's all moot, I'm just finishing up some QA and I'll get the new version live in a bit, after which I'll process all pending operations and hopefully things will return to normal.

Once that's all taken care of we'll have a new post describing the visible changes that were made (though a lot of work has been put in stability and security, which you will not see). Our apologies for all the waiting for those of you with pending operations.

Ripple's resource usage has decreased significantly with the continued development. Disk IO is still the largest bottleneck but that's just the nature of it. Stellar right now is like ripple was back in the day, huge, heavy and slow moving. I've been told by Jed they are doing a complete rewrite of the core to address all these shortcomings, we'll see what comes of it.

Not really. We will act as a gateway for each of them, which is obviously not the same thing. We might change this in the future but the approach we've taken is the simplest we could come up with, allowing users to register stellar addresses just like it is already done for ripple.

We are adding a new rule to DividendRippler (https://dividendrippler.com) that defines all failed transaction older than 180 days as abandoned, as explained in the How To Use (https://www.dividendrippler.com/howto) page. Some of these are transactions from double spends that never made it into blocks, some are early tests and have no funds but some still are simple lacks of trust lines on ripple or redeems to chains for which there was no address set, and in the latter two cases we will collect these funds as fees of sorts.

If you need help with a failed transaction please let us know and we'll do our best to sort things out!

Unfortunately I just found a bug in our chain processing code (not the DR code, but the one that stores all the blockchain data for use in our multiple services).

Ok, so certainly everyone noticed we're not up yet... We're still here, and we're still waiting. I don't dare do any more predictions as to how long this will take but we're optimised the code as far as we could and and now I/O limited. We're fixing that too all the while the rebuild is in progress.

A little more patience is still required, sorry for he major inconvenience.

We are back!

It was a tale of pain and suffering, pretty much everything that could fail has done so, and Murphy would be oh, so proud. But things should now be almost completely back to normal. Almost because I'm leaving the payments in manual mode while I do a few more checks, but assuming nothing bad happens we will be back to full auto by tomorrow.
