Title: Congratulations to rickbig41!
Post by: minifrij on March 04, 2017, 03:00:43 AM
As some may have noticed, a new member of the Staff team has been promoted - rickbig41 (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=553678). Congratulations!

Not to discredit or disrespect this event, however may I ask why this user has been promoted rather than others? It seems like a somewhat bizarre choice from my perspective. Congrats regardless!

I have never seen someone with no trust feedback get promoted to staff nor have I ever seen anyone get promoted to staff but I think it is pretty cool that they are pretty new in the bitcointalk community judging by their account activity and they are now staff it gives me hope that this fourm will grow by having new individuals become staff and not just people with 1k+ activity.

I'm quite surprised too. Maybe that user had a lot of reports recently?

Wow congrats, anyway, how to become a bitcointalk.org staff? Is becoming a Bitcointalk.org staff has a salary?

He is someone who reports many posts (does not make an attempt to report posts just to increase his report count) and extorts very few people.

Congrats Rickbig on your promotion ,I congratulated him in PM and i noticed his promotion while i was checking at a scammer posting fake dice site and linking to a fake seuntjie bot site .With the price rising expect these sort of scammers coming out with new techniques .

Moderators are added when they are required. Every morning when I wake up there was often a backlog of about 20 reports to handle just on spam bots alone that had been there an hour or two and rickbig was one of the handful that was always reporting them. It was obviously a good choice because there have been zero for me to handle since he was made a mod.

Well, I congratulate rickbig41 for this promotion, BTW what are the requirements of becoming a staff in this forum like reports? Giving negative feedbacks for those bad guys? Or what, just curious here. Or there are some voting for this like what happen to Lauda, but unfortunately, he got demoted.

Be a very active member and report a lot of posts with a good accuracy and if an admin thinks you would be beneficial they may ask you eventually. That's the only way really.

This is quite 'interesting' if you look into:
1) Events that unfolded at the time that the user registered on this forum.
2) Their past history on bitcointalk.

I guess some other, already established, moderators didn't deserve to be patrollers ???

I am no longer active during the times hilariousandco mentioned. I am no longer as active as I used to be. Similar points are likely true for the others on the list. In this case I think it was mainly the time as ~0500-0600 CE(S)T is not a common posting time. It wouldn't have made any sense to promote me just because I (still?) have the largest number of reports. I guess this is the reason theymos refuses to post regular updates, because it will lead to 'points' like these. I would have thought you knew better, considering that you became staff mainly because of your language skills.

Id also hope that those with a large number of reports do so not in an attempt to achieve a staff position, but because they want to help the forum. Ultimatly the number of reports mean nothing, same as your time logged in. It may be fun to compare from time to time, but its meaningless as single metric to select someone for moderation.

Relevance? I didn't claim that you were supposed to be promoted. I don't see a reason for promoting this seemingly unknown person in particular. If the primary requirement was being active around the time, why not promote Dabs (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=54791;sa=statPanel) or dbshck (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=153634;sa=statPanel)? Are they both patrollers?

Doubtful at best.

A high accuracy and number of reports means nothing nowadays?  :D

The link points to a list where shorena is at the very top spot. It appears to imply you don't agree with hilariousandco's statement; i.e. shorena would be promoted to Staff if that is true. He explained why it is not so.

Shorena's total good reports is almost twice the next on the list. Difficult to see any other interpretation.

Lauda was implying that one of his sketchy friends should have been promoted to staff so they could move toward the kind of power that Lauda was ultimately unable to get. If you know Lauda, you should know who he is implying should be made a moderator....only that I would not take the concerns of a power-hungry extortionist very seriously.

Id also hope that those with a large number of reports do so not in an attempt to achieve a staff position
Unfortunately, it appears that one or two people somewhat appear to at least be trying to pad their report count.

Ultimatly the number of reports mean nothing,
It is fun to have bragging rights, and having a lot of 'good' reports can allow you to have a feeling that you are helping out. But no, report accuracy alone is not a good single indicator of if someone should be made a mod or not.

Definitely an unexpected event, but at least good that there is more power to work on making the forum a better place. However, I would actually prefer an existing staff member to get promoted to global mod as it takes an awful lot of time to get something done when staff members don't have the ability to act as the account level from reported posts from users are too high for them. I quite often reported obvious threads that needed to get moved, but nothing was done even though global mods were quite active. Some times it takes 8-10 hours to get something done...

I did not add it from that perspective. I was simply refuting that said user has/had made a lot of reports and that this is a key factor in their promotion.

Lutpin & Shorena are close to each other nowadays, not that this means anything.

Bullshit from you as always. See my response to Shorena. Coincidentally, said user registered 6 days after you were outed for the bogus escrow (4th September (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1171059.0) vs. 10th September). ::)

However, I would actually prefer an existing staff member to get promoted to global mod as it takes an awful lot of time to get something done when staff members don't have the ability to act as the account level from reported posts from users are too high for them.
Side-effect: Eventually the majority just stop reporting

Congrats anyways i hope thatvyou will be actively talking to other forum members soon

It's impossible for you and other regular (non staff) members to know who has what number of reported posts/accuracy.

Interesting is that the top 50 reporters list that theymos posted from last year doesn't show rickbig41 at all. He either has reported a tremendous amount of posts accurately after that, or he got hand picked. I go for the latter.

It isn't an attack on him. I also wish him the best of luck in his new role. I applaud every effort that helps this forum to cope with the growing demand/more new users joining this forum.

It however doesn't mean people here don't have the right to ask for a tiny bit of clarification.

Of course it is. However there were obvious reporters making some threads with regards to this matter. Yet on his part i cant see or have noticed some post or replies on any threads from him.  I think this is just fine that he is not on the last because that was last year(maybe they were referring  on the latest reports)

Both of them are staff members.

Kinda sums up most what is wrong here.

You are a "hacked" account - yet unchallenged by these "staff".
You advertise byteball, and i presume are paid - a scam.

Who the hell is rickbig41? Looks like a shitposter to me.

It doesn't really matter anymore who he is or was, right now the most important thing is how he is doing as an added staff member.

As far as I can see, he seems to be quite an active staff member that is basically going through the entire forum to move threads to the right sections, detele spam threads, and the list goes on.

I had my doubts as well, but it seems he is doing fine from what I can see. Regarding his post quality, that's not much of a concern anymore as he seems to have stopped posting. He gets paid from yobit anyway as his post history consists of action notifications.
