The gov data mining operation known as facebook has gone off the deep end. Sorry to all you addicts but you get what you deserve.

Must be a joke... This would expose facebook's true intentions to even some of the stupid users. If this is true it's funny to see how many people still using that crap will leave for good

People use it a lot in my country. Sadly, a lot of them also use troll accounts. I guess the only good thing is that they'd have to find some other place to spread their lies. As for the people using it, they knew the risks anyway. My personal account is where my family contact me but I never really post anything personal in it. People these days just seem to share everything on their social media apps (heck, I don't even use IG and Twitter). The people that post photos of every freakin meal they have annoy me the most.


What alternatives would you suggest? I believe I also have a Google+ account just because I use YouTube but I have never really posted anything in it. Is it any better than FB?

Sounds like something pretty dumb for Facebook to do but in all honesty I would make sure to look into more things before you go ahead and believe the_donald sub Reddit. I'm a fire supporter in them and I actually monitor the sub-Reddit daily as I do support President Trump but you must always go ahead and verify your facts (cheeky, hehe)

I think the whole verification of your account is used if you'd like to get into your account when you don't have any access anymore, it's something that's used to protect the account owner from a hacker attempting to impersonate them. As I do think it is a bit much for security's sake I can understand the outrage but I do see Facebooks side in wanting to protect people.

And government ID is nothing compared to what people already give them by using it 'anonymously'.

Some people are really good at inventing hyperbolic "news" with things that have been happening for years and no one cares about.  For this kind of group the process is:

-Find something which either supposedly invades your right to privacy, despite being a private website and therefore just being annoying rather than an infringement of your rights, or find something that most people reasonably believe and bash it because of the "government" or something.

-Create a clickbait title which makes money off wrongfully outraged people

-Boom!

Not fake. It's clearly googleable for everyone. However it's been like this for years and it's to get back into locked accounts. You also don't necessarily need government issued ID, just ID of some sort.

Since they probably know how your mind works better than you do, I don't think handing over some ID will make much difference over the way they're already sucking the jizz out of your mind and selling it on.

It is terrible how all governments are becoming more and more Nazi-like. Even if they publicly opposed Nazism, they subconsciously rationalized and adopted the Nazi ideology, that is becoming more and more obvious, with all the surveillance tyranny going on.

Nazi Germany had the best wiretapping and surveilance system of it's time. And everyone is trying to copy that.

Yeah Facebook is garbage, I've had a bunch of accounts locked over the last few years, it takes 30 seconds to make a new sock account with tutanota, why would you give them your real identity?
I don't really understand why people take it so seriously and allow it to mediate their friendships.

This is one of the reasons why their competitors lost their popularity. If Facebook also does the same, then some other alternative will rise. If Mark Zuckerberg is capable of logical thinking, then he should not allow this. 

I dont believe its true. If it is, then I am not willing to disclose my government based ID to FB. They are trying to control one's life more and gain power and value through it. What happens if they start selling that personal info to other companies and stuff?

Amen. If you are concerned about associating your ID with Facebook, then you obviously don't use Facebook. It's literally a fucking collection of people's faces. And names. And daily activities. The government can do this for you, and probably already has. This is to cut down on anon troll assholes, and I have no problem with that. When one uses Facebook, you have essentially given away your right to privacy, ESP from state actors, given the nature of the service.

But I will say, I haven't heard about this before today.

Well I don't even think this is true though. There have been several reports like this on facebook that were proven to be fake news so I don't think this has to be taken seriously yet.

I stopped using FB long ago, when I heard of all the tracking they use. All the photos uploaded to their servers become their property and can be used for promotional reasons or even sold. The recent wikileaks noted they already hacked into phones and TV's so there is a backdoor to facebook that the CIA already can exploit.
Although FB by its nature really is easy to hack, the photo ID is probably just to silence opinions and help create the PC safezone.

I have heard lot of "news" about future of facebook, like it will be shut down or like it will not be fee anymore.... now this... I dont think it will ever happen cause it dont have any sense. First of all, you can join facebook if you are above 13 (if they are not change that since my last check), adn in that age you dont have photo ID.
Personally, I dont use facebook much, I dont have any photos there and I rarely post anything there.

I dont know about that since my facebook accounts were still functional. But if the time comes that all will be required to submit identification cards or valid ids then I will submit one. It is also a good news since scammers will easily be caught then facebook will became a haven for investors like me. Theres nothing wrong with that except if you are doing something illegal using facebook.

I think is not requiring this info right now to sign up.

I'm sure it's fake. The Internet has no boundaries and if America will require a passport for registration it will be moved to the jurisdiction of another state.

Fuck facebook and CIA. Just close your accounts or don't give any information in your profiles at least. It will make their jobs harder. I use facebook only for its messaging thing and its also coming to an end.

If you are worried about online surveillance you should stop going to all the social media sites and hide your IP address while browsing and the most important thing you should avoid is your mobile phone as it tracks each and every detail for any government organization to monitor your every movement.

You make a good point although at some point in time one can reflect upon what somethings add to ones existence. In my opinion Facebook doesn't really motivate people to develop themselves, they are encouraged to join the social network and be part of it. That's all.

I don't think Zuckenberg will allow his patrimony to be lost by some ID requirement. All other social medias like hi5 and myspace lost their position as market leaders in the sector because of such requirements. If Zuckenberg does the same it will be the end of facebook era. We all know facebook is one of the tools FBI and CIA use most to check locations of persons but this is just a conspiring theory for the moment. I believe this theory.

As means of communication it's not ideal because all your base belongs to them. There are other ways of communcating , ways that existed long before the creation of facebook. But besides that: communications is one thing, being glued to your screen is another.

Don't worry about it. FaceBook is not going to survive for too long. Before the FaceBook, Orkut was the craze. But it went down without any trace. The same will happen to FaceBook, if Zuckerberg mixes politics in his business.

I don't know why people are so upset about anything on the internet... If you concerned about privacy then don't use it. Don't upload photos, don't provide your phone numbers. They can do whatever they want and as long as people accept their term and continue to use it will be that way. There are plenty other communication platforms on the internet... 

I always though and believed that the US government had a hand in making facebook all because they want to spy on us. Facebook bought whatsapp and now they can spy on us even more.

I remember that deal between FB and WA. FaceBook purchased Whatsapp for a whooping $19 billion, which was many times the valuation made by the market researchers. Perhaps this was the reason behind it.

First of all you can be sure that this is because some kind of a very clear reason.
Second - you don't know that Facebook and Big Brother were not working together from the start. Just because Zuckerberg was against giving access to their data (publicly), does not mean that it's actually true.
Last of all, Facebook is a socializing website, what's the problem if people are using fake names? They're called nicknames and were used since the beginning of the internet. Is Zuckerberg on some kind of power trip? Or he's out of the whole deal and people there are doing whatever they want?

I always thought that when people are forced to use their real name will be more careful what are they saying but it actually didn't change anything. People are still idiots ;D

LOL this sums it up. People already know their real life identities are attached to Facebook, yet people still put up pictures of stolen property, the commission of crimes, and other wonderfully bright shit such as this. I would get this for the point of tying each profile to a public identity, but, it would be pretty hurtful if someone stole your identity and did this under this scheme. People would assume it was you, since it was verified with your credentials, and it would be hard to present evidence otherwise. Unless they are going to go the Twitter verified way, they don't have the resources to implement something like this.

What the hell? is this legit? Facebook has places the gun at it's head with the elections and now it's slowly pulling the trigger... This is insane.. They might as well request the scanned ID or something like that... I know there are a lot of fake accounts but cmon, is this the way to solve it?
