only is a matter of time. we will see Bitcoin at $2000 in 2017 or 2018?

Loaded question with so many things that can/could control the answer. I want it to be 2017 but I'm going to guess 2018.

I prefer the bitcoin price to reach that range this year. But looking realistic then I am more optimistic this can happen in the next year. Bitcoin needs a steady rise because it can give confidence to the holders of capital. While a very significant increase will make the market afraid to trust bitcoin when it slumps.

Its barely touching $1300 now but I doubt it will get to $2000 this year. I think most likely $1500 at the end of the year if the trends continue.

But here my thing on the $2000 price. To reach this, I think that USA should introduce a economic policies that could lead to inflation. And we know that if there's an inflation, the interest rate rise. Then it will create an effect where people will look for alternatives that is not to tied any Central Bank. This is what happened to China. With the devaluation of Yuan, Chinese went to bitcoin as an alternative. This is just my speculation.

The most realistic scenario i predict, that the price to 1500-1700 USD would be quite real. Of course it could fall to 950$ per 1 BTC, but again, it will be the matter of time to grow up again.

If we don't make an end to all this scaling nonsense (which isn't very likely as BU is only growing in support), there is no way we will see the $2000 level. I honestly don't mind the price to remain at current levels for the rest of this year (obviously, pump addicts will not agree with this). Mainly due to the fact that in order to justify this level of growth, Bitcoin must be able to handle the demand at least in an appropriate manner (which isn't the case now). Demand for block space exceeds that what Bitcoin can offer right now, and that must change.

BU gaining additional support could just be the trigger required for resolution of the blocksize debate.
Once this is settled, I think we can reach $2000 in a few months.

also we can say that it will happen eventually.

but about when, we need to see how things shape out to be like first. there is always a rise, and with the new adoption every day and with news like Japan, the process surely speeds up.
but also at the same time there are FUD like the recent one about split, or incidents like an exchange getting hacked. these things may not be a killing blow but they surely slow things down.

I think we could see $2000 this year. The trend has been going up, Japan has adopted Bitcoin recently, and more people are buying into Bitcoin. I've even been seeing more articles about it on Google news here lately. $2000 is not an unrealistic price imo

Adoption from the Japanese government is best adoption as of now. You need know one thing about this country. They have world costliest real estate places are all there only. This country adoption will make good change in price chart.
Still due to forking, price dumping and fluctuating happening sometimes. I hope 2000$ is possible in the next year.

resolution of the scaling thing is what will take things to the next level. if that doesn't happen then of course there's still room to rise but bitcoin needs a vote for the future right now.

I heard that Bic Camera accepted Bitcoin payments in Japan. Most people fail to realize but Bic Camera is really renowned brand in Japan.
This news created amazing marketing impact and mainstream media coverage, this is just a beginning for Japanese bitcoin acceptance.
However it is too soon to tell if bitcoin is only flavor of the month kind of thing or we will see increased demand and as result long-term increase in Bitcoin price.

We cannot exactly say when it is going to happen because of that the cryptocurrency world is something very hard to expect anything from, but we can obviously analyze the current bitcoin situation to choose what are we going to do as a traders.

Personally, I have sold most of my bitcoins, because im not really keen on the idea that it wont stop at 1200$ level, and is going to break it just to go further.
In my opinion, we will see that price going more stable for around 1-2 months, just to see a dump and the price drop somewhere after the vacation.
I expect building it back to 1200$-1300$ area just 3 months before the end of the 2017, to see 1500$ at the new year for some time, just before another drop.

I'd be surprised if it did.

We are dealing with so much uncertainty at the moment: China's attitude, Bitfinex and OkCoin, all the negativity BU supporters are spreading, India, that I doubt the price will pass $1500 this year.
$2000 is a far cry. Maybe next year if all goes well, but I'm satisfied with what I have now we could as well stay in this range.

No need to rush things. I am ok with the price reaching $2000 in 2019 as that will give the developers and rebellious pools enough time to find somewhat of a mid way solution that basically everyone (at least the majority) can agree with. After that we'll have the block halving in 2020 which means that the supply will slowly but surely dry out. Either way, I am full bullish (have always been that) and thus keep holding everything.

Next year seems most likely for the price of bitcoins to reach $2000. We are a third of the way through 2017 and the price is just over $1300, so it has too far to go in 8 months this year.

the thing that hardly anyone seems to be mentioning is the removal of china from the market. that's gonna massively change price behaviour. it could be argued that all china was good for since it came into play was suppressing the price. look what happened when it disappeared. if it ever comes back it'll be a pussy of a market.

look beyond the usual places and you'll see ever growing and record highs for localbitcoins and things like the gemini auction are getting bigger every time too. there'll come a point where no exchange bullshit can hold the price back.

We'll definitely see $2000 priced bitcoin's. If I had to make an estimate timescale wise I'd say late 2017.

A couple of good positive news and a few good trading days of bull run will take the price over to $2000 without any doubt but there are many hurdles to overcome for that to happen.If not for the scaling issues and the delays in transaction and the increasing transaction fees it would have crossed the valuation already,setting a time frame is not possible but i am positive that it would happen pretty soon.

I am fully optimist to see Bitcoin at 2000$. However i don't think we will see it in 2017 or 2018. Maybe we will have periods of some days near his rate but it won't last long. Bitcoin still has 2-3 years before to be at 2000$. We will be lucky if the price goes to 1800$ this year, very lucky.

At the current situation, Bitcoin scalability being stalled, and lots of political drama, I do not see Bitcoin reaching $2,000  this year.  Even though adoption quite increase by some Bitcoin friendly nation like Japan, the coming African bitcoin drive planned by one of the known member here and some issue with exchanges with regards to fiat currency deposit nullify each other. Though the one that probably push BTC price is the coming smart contract this June but I guess it is not enough to push Bitcoin Price way above $1600 this year.  Probably the prediction of one of the known Bitcoin enthusiast about $1500  might happen, $2000 per BTC will be on the year 2018 , quite realistic to me.

Bitcoin price will surely reach $2000 by the start of the year 2018. If it doesn't happen a at least by the year end the price will touch $2000, because every year a good price increase will be experienced during the last month. As quoted touching $1300-$1600 by this year end gives an assurance of $2000 by 2018.

Chances are it will be able to hit somewhere around $2000 close to mid 2018, but that's only if there's slower growth than what we've been seeing with the market recently. If the current trends were able to continue, we could easily see a $2000BTC value close to end 2017. Now, to be fair, it's already 1/3 of the way through 2017 and we still have $700 to go, so it might be a tall order, but it isn't impossible to see it happen. We've had massive growth in other years.

Well I think it will be a 2018 year we are gonna see a real $2000 mark value, impending thing that may occur for bitcoin that are positive within the community would be that Russia will accept it on 2018, back then Russia had previously banned the use of bitcoin, but as of November 2016 declared, bitcoins are "not illegal" according to the Federal Tax Service of Russia.

We are talking about bitcoin here. Not gold. It can go below 200$ over night if some major shit happens. You seem to forget that we've seen below 900$ just a few weeks ago. (07/March, 890$) And that happened because of a stupid debate about the block size which isn't anything major.

If everything goes well, WU stops being malicious, Ver gets out of bitcoin business, new ASIC miner companies make appearance; then we may see 2000$. If only a couple of those happens, 1500$ is possible. If non happens 1000-1200$ will be the price range till the end of this year.

We haven't even reach $1500. If we hit this price in the middle of this year. Theres a possibilty we could hit $2000 at the end of this year. Or maybe we will crash again. Its better not to think about this matter. Me, im just enjoying the price..im lowering my expectations. Dont expect too much. Thats why im doing altcoin trading. Atleast i could gain some profit.

For me, we will hit such values at the very end of 2018. 2017 is going little by little each day, and the price remains to around 1200$. How some people can think Bitcoin can take 800$ in value, more than 50% in a bit more than 7 months is beyond me.

I believe that bitcoin prices will come to a price of $ 2000, and stable by 2018. By 2017, bitcoin could reach $ 2000, but I do not think it will be stable, and it may be very difficult to reach that price for now.

i think the price will be at $2000 in the middel of this year or next year because if we see the conditions at the market, the price is still down and up too much and we don't know exactly when the price is going to to up and reach the price $2000. but for the price now, i think there are many traders that really happy and they can sold their bitcoin for making some profit.

It is very difficult to speculate about bitcoin prices. Because bitcoin prices can rise and fall suddenly, so we can not be sure when bitcoin prices can reach $ 2,000. But you are right, if bitcoin prices grow slowly it will take time to reach $ 2,000, probably will be achieved in 2018. But if bitcoin prices increase and in a row, maybe at the end of 2017 bitcoin prices could reach $ 2,000. But I believe the bitcoin price could reach $ 2,000 at the end of 2017, that's because every month bitcoin prices continue to rise and adoption will also help the price to go up.

People need to stop saying things like "bitcoin can't reach X price by Y date.   

Bitcoin has shown it can go up or down by large amounts in a small amount of time, but what matters is the fundamentals.   

This blocksize debate is holding the price down, that's the only reason it's not growing very fast lately. There's just no room for new users in the current state. Not because of technical issues, but because of political ones.

bitcoin price should have been $2000 and even more if there were no FUD and not many weak hands. but when people panic for no reason and start selling their coins to the whales during panic sells, then price rise is slowed down. but if they start to buy cheap coins as the whales dump, the number of dips will decrease and the dips become much smaller and on top of that whales will end up having less and less coins each time they try to manipulate.

It's more possible at 2018, I don't think it's time for BTC to have that price. We can always see that price in 2017, but I belive that we aren't ''ready'' for that price now. We will see..

Care to elaborate instances where we can see Bitcoin price at that range?  Comparing a ratio of two different price range is different.  Remember in order for Bitcoin to reach $3000 in 4 - 5 months time, it needs to have an exponential growth in adoption and demand in such a short span of time.  Aside from that, the amount needed to push $1200 to $3000 is more than 3x the amount it needs to push $500 to $1200, and always remember the resistance. People will definitely cash out when prices meet their sell price target.

You are very positive about it, like most of the people in this thread. I think differently. There's a lot of turmoil on the markets and the block size debate hasn't reached a consensus.
I don't think we will see $2000 this year, but I'm not saying we won't ever. IMO bitcoin is overpriced at the moment especially after the big Chinese exchanges blocked fiat withdrawals and people pumped the price to move their money out through bitcoin.

Definitely bitcoin will be come at $2000, But now it is not a right time for bitcoin to come at this price in this year, I mean in 2017, it is hard for bitcoin to come achieve at this price $2000.
But i could predict easily that in this year 2017, bitcoin definitely will be come at $1400 to $1500. But about the 2018, may be in the end of 2018, bitcoin will be reached at $1800 to $2000.

Don't you think that its too late to expect that price I mean everyone is hoping to see that price in this year end as everyone has belief that the price will touch $1500 in next few months and $2k is the target price at the end of the year and looking at the price movements I think its possible to touch this price in this year itself.

It could happen if all the bitcoin support components could fit the target. Such as a country that recognizes bitcoin as one of its financial media will definitely make bitcoin more reliable and also increase the price of bitcoin .

There is some general opinion that BTC price can only go up from now on,but the past has taught us to be cautious when it comes to price prediction for BTC.There are some good signs for BTC in the world,price is very stable for months which is good,but problem with block size is still there and some bad news can at any time turn the situation in the opposite direction.

If we take in consideration that price is now around 1250$ and there is eight months to the end of the year we need 750$ increase in price to reach 2000$.Nothing is impossible,but in my opinion it would be difficult reach this goal this year and keep that price stable.

I am pretty optimistic about bitcoins so I think that bitcoin will achieve that price by the end of this year and we don't have to wait for next year to see that price as price is moving up now and if the same trend continues then nothing can stop bitcoin reaching to that price level.

My call would be neither of them. 2017 is way too early, and though 2018 could show prices such as 1800$,  we need I think to wait until 2019 to cross the second thousand cap.

when bitcoin price dropped to $300 below several years ago most people felt pesimistic and they says it will be impossible to reach again $1000 above but in the fact the current price was pretty high and regarding OP question i think it will be possible but i don't know when the exact time it will happened

You shouldn't pay much attention to what the majority of the people here are saying. If you just focus on Bitcoin and its future potential, then it's pretty clear that we'll smash through $2000 and $3000 as well. I however like to see the price increase in a gradual manner. I prefer sustainability over short term peaks at any time. Sure, it's nice to take advantage of heavy fluctuations, but I like stability even more.

Stability will make sure that merchants will have far more incentive to directly accept Bitcoin as payment option. Right now the far majority of the merchants 'accept' Bitcoin through third party payment processors. I like to see this change. Stability will also make Bitcoin far more appealing to the average joe. Just imagine how the stability will make Bitcoin a perfect remittance tool. Benefit after benefit, after more benefits.

People like you who say that bitcoin could never fall back to $ X.xx haven't lived long enough to realize the foolishness of such comments.   And in this crazy world of btc, you'd better realize that we can drop to $950 and even lower.  Now, I hope we won't,  and I hope we go to $3000 by next month, but I'm realistic.  And I'm not overinvested in crypto precisely because of my realistic view.  You guys need to wake up.

The reason why many believe that the price wont fall back drastically is simply because we have more investors than it used to have and with the recent move by SEC to give the ETF a second shot has definitly sparked some interest and thereby we might break new records and if it is approved then the price would double .

Bitfinex is not a correct chart, they have a problem with wire transfer. It doesn't give you high accuracy, bitfinext is only the one had over $1400 for his bitcoin change rate.

If you look at the price back in April the 22th (the day this thread was created), the price was sitting around $1230.

We are one month further now, and we have gained +$800 in price. If you told me that we'll see an increase of that magnitude in such a short period of time, I would say that you are nuts.

But it seems that the conservativeness of most people (including mine), has been hammered in the ground real hard. I just hope that the $2000 mark will be sustainable enough to build further on.

I think it already happen, and it happen too fast I think you didn't notice it, try and check the price more often and you would realize the value now of bitcoin it is really outstanding that it reached the expected mark value that is $2000 and a lot are now expecting the price to really goes up a bit more and I think when it reached the $2500, I speculate that it is safe to really stay in the $2000 mark value, 

The value mark has been occuring already and the latest prediction for now is at 2500$-3000$ and theirs a huge possibilities that we can see the price to reach that since theirs still some positive aspects and provabilities that this current rally will still continue to soar. And we should speculate for more since I think fearless prediction of individual can truly help for reaching some good happenings for it.

Well looks like your question has already been answered. Bitcoin at 2000 dollars in 2017. The price is right at 2070 dollars at the time of this post. Hopefully the price keeps going and hopefully we will also see 3000 dollars in 2017.

Yup I noticed that just right away. Price seems almost doubled in this year. Last year bubble because of the halving movement. Why this big price change happening on bitcoin continuously.
Adoption rate would be one of the answer for this but still how this big bump would be possible without any a reason or movement rides on bitcoin.

Now you can be very serious and attentive and do not pay attention to any conversations with the more on the fluctuations of the rate. I think that every user is confident that the swings are the time and we expect only good Tambov price increases for bitcoin.

Touch down $2000. Remarkably, it all started when the news of Japan adopting bitcoin in April. And I said that $2000 can't be reached this year but with Japan getting into the picture, its just a couple of month and this barrier was broken. So its really hard to predict what will be the price of bitcoin at the end of the year but definitely its more than $2000.

Yup I am also believing that the price would continue to raise up and would make it to $2500 or $3000 but right now the price is really fluctuating last 3 hours the price hit to $2066 or $2065 then it just drop to $2000 flat, then right now goes back to $2049, I am now wondering if the price would really keeps up in terms of stability over the price, wish it could really stay in soaring up.
