If you were on the fence about ordering one, you probably just got another few thousand orders in front of you from bitcoin newbies after this article.

Cue the usual suspects whining about how Wired is now shilling for BFL because they were sent a $300 device to review.

Well, they're doing their best to take more money from people who are not familiar with their timelines.

This will be biggest pesudeo-scam in history.... millions flocking in to buy BFL miners now because of this... only getting their devices when difficulty is beyond evil...  ;D

So that's what they told Wired - 75 to 150 shipping = at most 5 * 150 = 750 GH/s shipping by mid May.  That's like 10 avalons.

They need all the press coverage they can get. If there is no new orders coming in at a constant rate, they'll just go bankrupt. Too bad newbies don't have a clue about BFL's delivery schedule (does anyone have?  ;D)

It wasn't the most flattering article. He mentioned the delays and 1000s of backordered units, but I didn't see any mention of how much cash it generates. I can't see it pushing too many new sales.

I am sure this article will interest more people about Bitcoin and especially BFL.
I am curious with how many law suits BFL currently has to deal... ::)

LOL- not quite 400/day. I called BS on the 400 a day number a long time ago. Whether they will be able to obtain this number eventually remains to be seen, but for now they are still failing big time.

I'd go so far as to wager that the Avalon chips I'm ordering through a group buy (that haven't even been ordered yet) will be made into an ASIC and hashing in my possession before any BFL order that was made this month. If anyone wants to take me up on this bet, let me know! I like free money!  ;)

When you findsomeone betting against that, please let me know, I want to bet with him too, on the same group buy and ASIC situation :D

Why would they? Avalon chips are inferior GHs/watt.

Work it out for yourself.

Avalon 66GHs @620watts = 9.4Watts/GHs
BFLabs 5 GHs @30watts = 6.0Watts/GHs

Why don't you calculate the inferiority based on earnings.

Avalon Batch 1 initially make 0.15BTC/day/GH
BFL's 5GH will arrive in mid 2013 make 0.05BTC/day/GH

The problem with your comparison is that the Avalon is a standalone unit, whereas the BFL needs to be plugged into a computer. If you've got a Raspberry Pi controlling it, then that doesn't add much where power consumption is concerned. But I feel like most people won't be using a Raspberry Pi or anything of that sort...

Well we know most of the people mining for BTC have a computer and are most likely to have one running to 24/7.

But don't bother nitpicking minor details when people like erk can't grasp that concept that BFL lost the 1st leg of the ASIC race.

The problem with your comparison is the computer is already inside the Avalon chewing power, whereas with the BFL you can choose what type of computer you connect to, and you can run multiple BFL units off the one computer as confirmed by the author of cgminer. I seem to recall my old Lenovo s10e netbook using about 14watts, it could probably run several BFL units.

I'll tell you what! Dank could've written a better review on or off substance.
