Man I have no clue either, my latest bids got refused because of constant new replies. Then time was up. Very curious :)
Yes, John, is there any chance to turn off this annoying Warning - while you were reading 4 new replies have been posted. You may wish to review your post.? It totally screwed last seconds bids  :'( I think it would be good idea to turn off this feature by default for auction threads.

I don't feel so bad missing out this auction now.  My max bid would of been 45.  I've been sad the past few days because I wouldn't have been able to convert fiat to BTC in time.  The last few mins was totally intense to watch.  And I totally agree, there need to be a better system for auctions.

Well organised John. Anyone know are there any further 10GHz blade auctions planned? Wondering how confident bidders are on the difficulty continuing to be favourable long enough to have made a modest ROI on these.. Will ASICs being delivered raise the difficulty 10x or is it less than this?

For the $500,000(estimate) you guys just dropped, you could have developed your own ASICS.

50 10 gh blades should change the diff at all considering they were used up to this point :P

At worst, I feel like the hardware value if received, could auction on something like ebay for more than the btc equiv here. I'm mining with it though

I suggest the next auction should take place in a dedicated IRC channel, where a bot keeps track of the bidders with the highest bid, and bidders post bids in a standard format, so the bot can easily recognize them. Like:

2@48,1@50,1@51

would bid on a total of 4 devices at an average price of 49.25 BTC per device.

In a separate IRC channel, the bot could keep posting the current book of the highest bidders, for example every 10 seconds (perhaps every 1 second when the end nears), and no one else is allowed to write in this channel.

+1 also i think registering bidders is smarter so we dont get phony bids

John, wouldn't it be less work if you counted from last valid bidding post backwards? :)
I'm only guessing you're working your way through a lot of too low bids. But probably with good reason :)
Anyway thanks for the massive work.

well still its not that much hashpower, maybe a 2-4% increase

50 x 10 Gh/s = 500Gh/s

Network rate at the moment: 75,000 GH/s

So its a increase of 0.0066% of the total network hash rate.

If working from the end please take care about bid order - earlier bids of the same value beat later ones, right?

If everyone bids 'honestly' or there are no bidding below the minimum, this would work.  Otherwise, John still have to parse through the whole thing.

I just use http://blockchain.info/stats (http://blockchain.info/stats) to get the current rate, its on that page in the middle area (it says 82,000 GH/s)

Or you can read this page to work it out without any third party websites https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Difficulty (https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Difficulty)

I hope you find those links informative :)

Bitcoin is a fascinating system to study, after this semester is over I want to delve into the Satoshi client code and try to fully understand how it all works. So much to learn!

50 x 10 Gh/s = 500Gh/s

Network rate at the moment: 75,000 GH/s

So its a increase of 0.0066% of the total network hash rate.

Is there an easy way to see the total hashrate of the total network?  Thanks in advance!

Could of bought 10Gh/s in GPUs for that much. (I know it uses way more power)

I'm honestly interested in this, I tried to work it out. Wouldn't you need about 20-24 GPU's tied to 4 or more motherboards with several PSU's? I worked out a 10GH/s rig at around $10,000.

Am I way off?

John, wouldn't it be less work if you counted from last valid bidding post backwards? :)
I'm only guessing you're working your way through a lot of too low bids. But probably with good reason :)
Anyway thanks for the massive work.
Don't forget
- If two people bid at the same price, the person who bid first will have his slots filled first

Yup, he'll need to do some backtracking and pop some items from his stack :)

It is very simple. Place bid on top of existing one.

If you want absolutely no brainer Imagine this: whoever bids less is a winner, so lowest bids go on top.

Well then it's a damn good deal compared to GPUs, if they only cost the same as GPUs, but use way less power and arrive your doorstep, ready to use in less than a week.

What a crazy last 5 minutes. Definitely going to need to use some auction software for future auctions to keep John sane.

Could of bought 10Gh/s in GPUs for that much. (I know it uses way more power)

I'm replacing two shelves of GPUs with this board(if I won it). I'm tired of managing GPUs. Hoping the sale of the GPUs will offset the price from this purchase.

Or you could have bought yourself more than 100 Commodore 64's and hash with those.

Using HD 7950s @ 600 MH/s card @ $450 card(this includes all supporting hardware such as MB, PSU, risers, etc) and the blade @ 12GH/s(overclocked) you're looking at roughly $9,000 to get an equivalent setup in GPUs. I'm sure some of this is off a bit(probably stuff 6 cards into a board with a lower cost/card) but it is a rough estimate.

Keep in mind you can resell the GPUs when you are done..

I wonder what the GPU market will look like after everyone who buys ASICS dumps their GPUs.  Wonder if I can get some cheap for gaming. :)

We make up a tiny portion of the GPU market. You can get some cheap HD 7970s though on eBay if you are willing to take the risk of someone shipping a DOA card. I bought a number of HD 5970s on eBay for $50-100 less than what people wanted on forums and easily $200 less than what Newegg wanted.

I wish the guys behind the auction disqualifies WinVery.com and sells it to whoever is next in line. That would go to show not to bid if you don't want the items. I'm not even close to be next in line so this is not posted with an hidden agenda. I just unlike this method and wish the forum to be a cool place.

Doing so would be a breach of the auction rules, in my opinion, as they didn't state that reselling was not allowed. If they didn't want people to resell units, they should have specified this in the auction rules.

I would be next in line for those two units but I have to agree, it wasn't against any explicitly set rules, no matter what we may think of it.
