Title: Happy Bitcoin Pizza Day everyone !
Post by: Calangaman on May 22, 2017, 08:13:29 AM
Seven years ago, on May 22nd 2010, 2 pizzas were bought for 10'000 bitcoins, say USD 21 millions as of today.

http://www.coindesk.com/bitcoin-pizza-day-celebrating-pizza-bought-10000-btc/

After a terrific roll, I wouldn't be surprised if it trades at 20'000$ in 7 years!

Now go buy off 100 billion doge because it might some day be worth $1000/Doge, lol who sold those pizzas and do they still have them or have they dumped long time ago?
In my area a decent pizza with lots of extra cheese costs $8 and a number one pizza with best quality could go high as $25.
Well after taking a bath and prayers I'm going to get a pizza and eat with my mom since only we both are at home right now. :)

How I wish I have that then I was exposed to this goldmine, I would have been super rich by this day beyond imagination not just by working myself out which I might not even make that money anytime soon but just by getting an information, believe in it, and act on it and boom wealth has been gotten.

It seems that everyone is now more concern about the potential activation of Segwit within weeks(??). I hope the "rumour" is true and I think most likely the pizzas will become even more expensive retrospectively!!

wow bringing back those old days were btc is not that much popular and haven't got any exposure if we just can predict what will happen
in the future maybe most of us already rich and already got stable life style, bitcoin is a huge success, thanks OP for allowing us to know
that pizza day 7 years ago and learn to hold for another 7 years and expect for more value.

No prob glad you enjoyed reading it, heliacal is down now sort of being pizza day and the way back machine has robot txt on that page so might be worth saving a few snapshots of it for future generations if other people are collectors of pizza pictures :P.

It still loads though after a few tries.

http://www.cnbc.com/2017/05/22/bitcoin-price-hits-fresh-record-high-above-2100.html
While being worth $30 at the time, Hanyecz pizzas would now cost $21.8 million at current bitcoin prices or 10.4 million for one.
If you bought $100 of bitcoin at the 0.003 cent price on May 22, 2010, you'd now be sitting on around $72.9 million

Wow. This is part of the Bitcoin history that is really popular and I am not fully aware that this pizza transaction is recorded here in this great forum. Indeed, this is a nostalgic look at the way Bitcoin is so successful as the king of the digital currency and the one that started it all. How lucky are those who made a gamble to buy Bitcoin at its early stage and hold them no matter what...they must be millionaires today.

The most expensive pizza...true!

Happy bitcoin pizza day!

I'm using mobi wallet at the moment and they've sent me a notification regarding bitcoin pizza day - thats how i know today is the day, otherwise i would have certainly forgot :D

The pizza is now worth $23 million dollars.... If remember correctly he bought 2 pizzas from papa johns so thats $11.5 million each. Nobody really knows what happened to the coins afterwards, hopefully the seller held the bitcoins because he deserved to be rewarded as the first known transaction for a tangible item in bitcoin history :D

Ha, ha, I completely forgot about that. That was one of the moments in Bitcoins history to remember. That was probably the most expensive pizza in the world, hope it was worth it.
Thank you for reminding us on this, I'm sure many people don't know about it or have forgotten.

That is when bitcoin starts :) Its value is too small, there is a question here, has anyone stored it up to the present time? It was a long time for a business plan, and if so, maybe now he is an extremely wealthy person, a profit worth the wait.

All I can say is that if I was the person who made that purchase, I would literally be shooting myself in the head right now. But, he probably still does have quite a lot of Bitcoin if he bought the pizzas for 10k Bitcoin.

HAPPY BITCOIN PIZZA DAY.

Anyhow it's good to have a bitcoin pizza day celebration. Soon by the years to come when bitcoin and Virtual currency becomes more popular we can see most of the stores accepting bitcoin making bitcoin pizza day sale with more discounts. Lets cheer up on this day to get a small portion of the highly valuable pizza.

If i were the person who sent 10,000 bitcoin for a pizza then it will bug my mind everyday because that is like betting on a lottery and burning the paper and in the next few weeks you will find out that you actually win the lottery. This is also a good example for the importance of patience because this word called patience will help us to become better and make better decisions.

Time flies so fast, well spending 10k bitcoins for a couple of pizzas i think it was affordable at that time, but seriously not only that pizza but also there are many stuffs that the early adopter spent for it when the price was really low, maybe in many years later bitcoin that we have spent right now would be like lazlo's story. Anyway lazlo's thread should be pinned or maybe create a wax replica of that pizza for Madame Tussaud Museum, If i were lazlo i would be shock if he didn't buy those pizzas he would be a millionere.

This is Lazlo's address, 81000 Bitcoins spent on pizza in total, he mentions it in another thread.

This is an exciting and wonderful news to all of us bitcoiners. But I do wonder if that pizza house have not sold all of his bitcoins then he will be a millionaire today but if he has sold them all then he would have regret it. I am just curious is that pizza shop still existing today? I hope it does since it has become a historical place for bitcoin.

Back then this was mostly fun and experimental, and nobody really took this very seriously. Laszlo was not the only person who spend loads of

bitcoins on nonsense. I bet ya, there are many people out there who still owns Bitcoin t-shirts worth a few 1000 dollars.  ::) ... This is the thing..

bitcoins are going to increase in value over time... if you hoard forever, you will never gain any profit from it... If I take profits now, and pay all

my debt for instance... I would gain the interest on that debt and still be happy after a few year... This is a journey... enjoy it and always keep

some bitcoins stored away for the day this thing goes to the Moon.  ;D

There was a story I read a while back. I think it was here. A guy that sold a house he inherited for bitcoin. The price took a dive shortly after, but is well over the amount today. Has there been an update? Does anyone know if the seller got scared and sold at a loss or held on to them?

As I'm typing these where 1 Bitcoin equals 2251.00 US Dollar approximately 22510000 million dollars enough to invest in shopping malls and hardware's. I think the owner of 10000 Bitcoin at that time is happy that he bought the pizza using Bitcoin but I wonder how he feel now that bitcoins price is more than what he think it is.

The awesome thing is in a few years we will be those lucky people who held a few coins and will be buying homes and sitting on a nest egg that started here.  Steven Forbes, Bill Gates and John Macafee all agree that a single Bitcoin may amount to enough to purchase a home with in 10 years.  That's awesome !!

I do wish I could sell a pizza and become a millionaire too though.  Who wouldn't?  :) just for  fun please read the article at tinyurl.com/bitcoinhunger

As much as I like the significance of it for the sake of the bitcoin culture,I equally hate it as its more of a psychological thing and not logical at all.Look at it this way, back in the 70's if you would have bought land as a commodity, you would be a billionaire by selling it in today's real estate rate. That's how investments work.Almost all the commodities like gold, silver follow the same pattern.People are making a hype of it just because it is a digital asset.

I wouldn't wonder if he bought those 2 pizzas at that amount, I mean how much was 10k bitcoin around 2010 lets say $0.0025/BTC 'cause it was around $25 for both pizzas. I'm sure that person who paid for the pizza would be scratching his head thinking why'd he bought those pizzas at that amount 'cause its worth millions by now.

If I were an owner of a shop whom they bought that pizza from and kept all those bitcoins all these years, man I would be blown away by where the value stands at right now. That is almost equivalent to how much an A-list Hollywood actor would make in a movie, or an NBA superstar's salary for one year. I can just imagine how much the price would be a couple of years from now.

I'm happy that the pizza transaction took place.

I'm happy I found Bitcoin in 2013 and not 2010.*

I'm happy I have held to some coins since then.

I'm happy.

This is one of the regretful event for me because he just lost the fortune of getting rich in just a short period of time. Back in the day like in the year of 2010, the 100 USD already cost now at least 70M USD and that is very ridiculous and i hope back in 2010, i invested at least 50 USD in bitcoin and not spending time on video games.

I don't have an idea on where laszlo is now. I read somewhere here in forum that he doesn't have bitcoin much I don't know if that is for real or he does have mined a lot of bitcoin. But there's one word that he said that he didn't regret when he did bought pizza's for 10,000 bitcoin. Actually I'm the one that is feeling sorry with his move but it's the start of the transactions in bitcoin and he should be credited all the time because if it is not because of him, there's no next move of transaction.

It's really symbolic that Bitcoin reached all time highest price - $2200 exactly on Bitcoin Pizza day. Coincidence? I don't think so :D
Now it's hard to imagine, how big bitcoin price can be on the next Bitcoin Pizza Day. I don't even try to predict.

People just cant move on on this one. ;D They still remember this legendary pizza day who have been bought for 10k bitcoins. Its really sad for the person who buy that pizza but well theres no time to regret because we don't know the future comes and didn't expect that the price of bitcoin as of now is 2000x fold. I'm curious on where is the pizza boy who do receive the bitcoin.

Yeah right! I read that story well the first bitcoin is used to buy a pizza and it is paid with a whole bitcoin well that time is the price of bitcoin is pretty low so sort of a whole bitcoin is enough to pay the pizza but now if the pizza boy is receiving bitcoin always and he/she holding it right now then we could pretty say that he should be rich right now

I wish I had known about it in 2013 because then I would be so rich. The price is rising pretty fast right now though too! Hope it keeps rising to a million! That would take a while though. I am not sure if that will be anytime soon.

$27 at $13/bitcoin... So that's 2 1/13 bitcoin.
2 1/13 bitcoin now equals 2 1/13 * 2471.87 = $5134 worth of Bitcoin he has now then...
OFcourse 5k is awesome to have, but most countries would not allow you to build a house for just 5k

I think that $27 story was when it was WAY cheaper.

I think 1 doge will not worth $1000 because that price is very big . I think the possible high pricr of doge is only $1 only because the price is only 150 satoshi. But everything will possible to happen. The price of the pizza here in my place is only 4 dollars each and they have already cheese but if you have more cheese you can $1 only .

Op will bought pizza befire the price 10 bitcoin and if they sell it today its more than 20,000 dollars that is very big amount. But the price on that year is very low price so did not know the price will reaach very high.

Isnt that treating BTC more like a stock or a security? If its treated really like money, then we should start spending it. But most of us dont. We all love to tuck it in cold storage and squirrel it away like were so afraid that someone might steal it from us.

So if he did really treat it as money then maybe he did go broke.

You made a nice point but not everyone is fond of buying materialistic things. He who plans for the future holds the key for the riches. They can do whatever they want with their bitcoins.Had the pizza guy saved those coins,he would probably have a house by the beach today.

So if he did really treat it as money then maybe he did go broke.

it was a memorable day, I don't agree with people making fun of the exchange of thousands of BTC to a pizza, that was it's value at that time, so you can't look at it by today's standards, for example if you somehow could contact google makers when it was just a project you could have made billions for a relatively small startup investment.

This one always shows how something like BTC can turn to be an unprecedented success, who would have expected a no-name currency that people used to play around with would be so much success (answer: allot seemed to think so, at least allot of those oriented in development).

Anyway, I don't see it as an exceptionally bad deal at the time, These 10,000 worthed a pizza at the time (or even less), hence it's all good and I'm sure both of them are much bitcoin-richer than us the readers.
