Title: my long story with Bitmain and bitmainwarranty and S9
Post by: mamiakimo on May 29, 2017, 07:14:36 PM
hi,

i have 7 S9 and 2 R4
all of them working fine except first one S9 Batch 9
after 2 weeks from getting it i lost one board and they repaired it under warranty
after 2 months it stopped hashing again ( same board )
they told me it out of warranty so i send it to paid repair
after i get it and install it the all machine stopped working!
after reset i found the 3 boards stopped!!
i told them and they told me to send the 3 boards to free repair and they will cover the shipment cost
after 2 months one of them stopped again!
i send it to repair but they told me it damaged and cannot be repair or replace because it out of warranty
i told them to give me new board but they told me to purchase anew one from bitmainwarranty

i send message to bitmainwarranty to purchase a new board
i get answer from Ashli told me it will cost 175$ + 25$ for shipping
i paid using BTC
and after that he told me that he told me wrong price and the correct price is 550$
i told him to recover my BTC and i don't need this board
he told me ( My apologies I will go ahead and just ship the order to you. )

after i get my new board and installed it by 8 horus it stopped hashing!
i send bitmainwarranty a message from 2 days and i don't get response until now

I have struggled with s-9 gear and with r4 gear.

at the moment  I have an r4 blade at bitmainwarranty.

they have had it since May 25th  1Z4AR6880343709452

this is a short time due to Holiday.

I am getting  comp mining credit from host.myrig

Got a hunch the $175 would have been a repair price.

I was wondering why when I sent in a s9b13 board for repair Ashi also provided quotes for 550 & 600MHz spare boards. Perhaps was from your input.

i think problem is from your psu, i have 3 s9 but all of them are working fine for me
its better that you chenge your psu
another possibility is from power oscillation

Ya if you have had that much bad luck with the same board in the same miner you should start trying to narrow down the cause of the problem and start looking at your power supplys as well as all the wires and plugs going to the board in ? that keeps dieing on you.   esp now that they have had to of been plugged in and unplugged a few times now just from dealing with the board issue so many times.   PCI-e female plugs are only rated for a maximum life of 30 cycles of plugging them in and unplugging them before failure even in the best conditions.  They really are not meant to be unplugged more then a few times in their life before they need to be repined. and really not even meant to be pushing as much amps as they do when used in something as power hungry as an s9

and if its not a power supply issue or plug and wireing issue I would start looking at things such as the fan or what sort of temps the air intake air is at where ever you are running the miner that keeps haveing a board die on you over and over.

Or you could just have really really bad luck.  Which can happen.

before i connect the new board i changed the place of this machine to another apartment and i connect it to APW3
the evga 1600G2 that used with it before is used now with another machine with no issues

before i get the board i moved this machine to new apartment that have more good air flow because we are on summer now
and changed the PSU too from EVGA 1600G2 to APW3 which i get it from one month from bitmain ( i have only one APW3 )
when this board stopped hashing i tested it on another data cable and start the machine with it only but it still not working

Apparently bitmainwarranty is going to be merging with myrig or something like that based off of the myrig guy's posts. It's an interesting service they offer, I'd look into their physical hosting once they get miners back into their marketplace.

Just got the email from Bitmain Warranty saying my s9 b13 hash board is fixed. Total cost including shipping back to me was $250 minus a very nice repair service Beta Testers discount..

The board was repaired in 2 weeks, Love it! Now to see if they include a service report at least outlining what was done to repair it...

Phil, any word on your R4 board?

not yet.  I did earn a few bucks with the beta myrig  maybe 25-30  lost a lot to fees.

A suggestion to them would be do not send  small payments.  1 board  hardly earns anything...  if they  took  10 days and made 1 payment  fees would be 0.0002  instead of 4 or 5 x 0.0002 = 0.0008 or 0.0010

I have been exchanging messages with my rig  so maybe they will give me repair info  today or tommorrow.

where did you send it?

China?

or  Colorado, USA

I just got a bill for mine which I sent to Colorado  25 to ship to them  175 to repair 25 to ship back = 225 cost.  I am in New Jersey.

They did give me some mining  for the 1 board about 50 bucks  but could have been more  if they did 1 send of btc with 1 fee for 0.0002 instead of 4 smaller payments and 4 tx id payments  of 0.0002  all in all  an okay experience .  Since I did not send to China

Sorry to hear that.
Have they said what the damage is? I can think of many things that would make a board unrepairable such as blown internal traces, lifted pads, burnt PCB, etc.
Again, this is why Bitmain Warranty (and Bitmain factory service) need to provide a report that says more than 'Fixed" or "Unrepairable"...

Ouch! I just sent a board in to Denver and waiting to hear back. I think mine is repairable as it would hash great for a while then start to show xxx's and then stop. No high HW or heat issues from what I could see, just got tired of restarting the miner every couple hours.

Nice! So I take it, in a way was thing as OEM Warranty repair. Sans have having to ship the whole miner over to China that is ;)

Think I'll ask about the bad board from the R4 I got early this year to see if they will do the same...  So far UPS still says the repaired s9 board (batch-13) should show up at work Friday :)

yeah maybe you are right .  it did fall in the 6 month time for warranty.

and they are still sending me a little bit of coin as it mines.

this time they let it build up a little higher so the fees are not as bad.

So far the s9b13 replacement board been working perfect for the past 5 days. Note that I said REPLACEMENT - not repaired.

As rather expected they returned a different board than what I sent in, different lot and other ID numbers. If they do things like industrial equipment companies handle it, the bad boards are examined and tested then binned into one of 3 categories:
1. Just needs something quick/simple for the repair, fix and return same board
2. Can be repaired - send to depot, give core credit, exchange with reworked board from stock for fee
3. NFG and cannot be reworked.

Now, #2 would explain why Bitmain Warranty and Bitmain proper do not give us a report on what was was fixed. However... As I have said many times in the past they should at least tell us what typically fails. With the 100's of boards that have been repaired they have to have a list of usual suspects for each type of failure seen.

Any luck  with the replacement board?

Yes  if I drop to freq 470  I get good results.

If I was patient I good get my other  one of these  set it to 587  wire the good board from here to it.  along with  2 boards on it.

I would get 3x 4200  and 1 x 3200 =  15800

now I get 14200 for the two.

well better then 11500  for the   1.5 r4   I was getting before the repair.

I have it up to freq 475  no x's and hash is at  6729.

I don't mind those numbers.  One last thing to do  is to remind myrig  of the hosting bonus due to me.  I think it is about 0.0015 btc  I will check that number.

I have an S9 with one faulty board under warranty, the price to send the WHOLE unit back as is ridiculous !!!

I am based in the UK and don't know what to do !!!!

Plus who to send it with, it's not worth the price imo.

I would be better just voiding the warranty and just sending the board (but i doubt they would accept that).

So frustrating and confusing atm.

I am still waiting on an update from Denver.

They received it last Monday and so far, after replying to an email from me, all they have done is to confirm the receipt of the unit.

I guess I should hear something from them soon??

Meanwhile, I have missed out payments for 28 blocks in my pool so far for this machine......

Well, they just got my $200. (hopefully money well spent)

The "repairs" are done ($175 +$25 return shipping) - just got the tracking number.

Can't wait to return to (hopefully) 100% hashing.

I'll let you know how it performs once I get it back.

So a question on how to setup a repair with Bitmain Warranty. I created an account and opened a ticket requesting a repair on my R4 but I have not received a response and it has been over a week now. Is there an email address to contact them and should I try via that method?

The unit is still under the 180 day warranty, but I understand that this will most likely be a paid repair. If a warranty repair is an option then I only have two more weeks before 180 days is up.

Currently running on a single board at half the hash rate.

Thanks for any help that can be offered.

Thanks for any help that can be offered.

was this an R4? because this appears to be the EXACT same things to is going on to me? how is it a paid repair if there is warranty?

As I understand it, Bitmain Warranty is not affiliated with Bitmain. My options are to ship to China for approx. $300 and a two month wait to have the unit repaired under warranty (or be told it cannot be repaired and argue the point), or send to Colorado for a  2 to 3 week turn around and repair at my expense. $25 shipping each way, and $125 to $200 for repair. Comes up less out of pocket and faster back into service.

Not really happy with that as options, but I knew this prior to purchase and I made the decision to purchase anyway. I cannot fault Bitmain for my decision to purchase their product knowing the the warranty they offer is null and void (to me).

Thanks!

My issues is they want $600 to repair one of the blades on an r4. And its STILL in Warranty. And its ONLY caught on fire after I did the Ant-bleed update. Literally the next morning it was on fire.

Your best option might be to continue discussions with Bitmain China.

My R4 is under warranty as well, but the cheaper and faster option for me is a paid repair through Bitmain Warranty. If I am not mistaken, they are changing their name to reduce confusion in the future.

Well, they just got my $200. (hopefully money well spent)

The "repairs" are done ($175 +$25 return shipping) - just got the tracking number.

Can't wait to return to (hopefully) 100% hashing.

I'll let you know how it performs once I get it back.

I received my R4 back from Bitmain Warranty (Colorado) yesterday. So far, after only about 15 hours, all is good.

It is hashing at 100%. They definitely changed out the affected board with another one, I am guessing with a refurbished one, but this obviously just a guess.

The only difference I see, is the fan speed is being displayed under fan # 6 (instead of #3) and so far, very few HW errors.

I am keeping my fingers crossed that this performance continues.

China tells me since the Power connectors caught on fire, they will not honor the warranty now.  Mind you, this machine ran for 4 months fine with no issues, prior to the ant bleed update. I ran the update, and POOF no boot, no hash from it. I immediately emailed bitmain. And told me in the email the warranty was good until June 22. Now they claim that the act of their equipment catching on fire voids warranty, even tho I used it completely as they intended, with a sufficient PSU and all 6 6pins plugged in.

I wonder how car warranty works in China?

Its been a week since I put my repaired R4 back online.

So far, its running fine. I am concerned/confused as to why the replaced board has a GH/S (RT) that is TRIPLE of its rating - see below. The temps are just a few degrees higher than the original board.

Should I be concerned?

so how do yall feel about the new asic batch coming out? im looking at both the 15.5th and 13.5gh(yes alt) what do you think in terms of reliability. i was going to run it with computer psu's and upgrade to a server psu if they turn out to be reliable and i can order more asics

Sorry to hear that.
Have they said what the damage is? I can think of many things such as blown internal traces, lifted pad, etc.
Again, this is why Bitmain Warranty (and Bitmain factory service) need to provide a report that says more than 'Fixed" or "Unrepairable"...

no they just told me it cannot fix
so i paid 300$ for 8 hours of hashing with 4.6TH

Ouch! I just sent a board in to Denver and waiting to hear back. I think mine is repairable as it would hash great for a while then start to show xxx's and then stop. No high HW or heat issues from what I could see, just got tired of restarting the miner every couple hours.

Update on my repair. Got it back Friday and it is working great. The cost was $200 and they said it had a bad asic chip.
Well with just one week of running now that same hash board just started acting back up. Very disappointed
Well after 3 weeks and another $150 the board is on its way back to me. If I don't have any better luck with this repair I may look at a charge back either with PayPal or my CC company.

Considering no one has even gotten any from the new batches much less ran them for any length of time how are we supposed to know??? Probably is same reliability of the earlier ones: Over all acceptable but still a crap-shoot.
