Bitcoin is a decentralized network which provides the user with censorship-proof value transfer and seize-proof store of value.

It doesn't have to do a good job at those things you've mentioned because it has unique use cases which are quite valuable to anyone interested in monetary freedom.

Just because you'd rather have an easy time buying groceries than freeing yourself from the onerous capital controls implemented by governments worldwide doesn't mean that Bitcoin is useless.

This is the one thing I don't get with people sometimes, like I get it the Bitcoin network is having some issues at the moment and such but I don't think that's going to lead to the death of an industry that still has BILLIONS of dollars in it. We're all not just going to go poof one day and that'll be it, theres a ton of money IN KEEPING this currency going, if it was to shut down / lose all its value a lot of people would be out of a lot of money.

Where I live, 12 years ago, you could get a pretty decent house for $350,000.  That same house now costs $1.1M.  Mean income has barely moved during that time.  So purchasing power got killed.

So every currency will have its issues.  Fiat can't hold it's value, and bitcoin doesn't have worldwide adoption yet.  No one is forcing you to hold bitcoin so get rid of it.

People used it to earn, through their earning they are able to purchase groceries and run their business, indirectly it is bitcoin which is used to buy groceries and to run business. Well this sh*t has changed millions of lives and will continue to change billions in the future, there are hundreds of altcoins depending on this sh*t and without it none of them could sustain only with altcoin/USD/fiat pair, you can pay for porn with this sh*t, you can pay online for many things and not many other things, if I go to market in my country trying to pay with US dollar no one will accept them on the spot, so I'll have to exchange them to local currency first and then go shopping, that is a good thing to do with bitcoin you know?

It started with pizza and now you can buy elctronic gadgets, steam/video games, book tickets, restuarants, aviation/travel and then there are many more things you can buy using bitcoins, but most importantly you can use websites like eGifter or Gyft  to buy gift cards which you can redeem at Amazon, BestBuy, and hundreds of other popular retailers (gorcery shopping included). Yeah, if you want to buy groceries from your neighborhood store then it might not be possible at this time, but it would be once local merchants start realizing the full potential of bitcoin. The so called shit has evolved a lot in the last 9 years.

9 years is not a big time compared to the time you have spent buying things with the fiat currencies. Bitcoin is still in infancy and is in developing stage. Bitcoin has the potential to change the entire economic system which fiat currencies don't have. Even after so many years why do so many economies based on fiat currencies fail just because they aren't fool proof themselves. Bitcoin is yet to come and attain it's best form and it's my firm belief that bitcoin is going to change the world in a positive way.

If merchants are not ok with price volatility, they can use third party merchant solutions like bitpay to instantly convert all bitcoin payments to fiat.

Don't call it shit, search for things you can do with bitcoin before making any conclusion like this.

I think all real world merchants use solutions like Bitpay or Gocoin. They don´t have to worry about volatility, transactions delays or fees, they give their uses the choice to pay with bitcoin and they receive their fiat money. The problem is for the third party companies, they are who take the risks. Possibly because of these risks their fees may be high and that´s why there are not more merchants accepting bitcoin payments.

I understand the frustration you are exerting now based on the fact that its 9 years already but you need to understand that even the banking sector that has been in existence for ages is still in a penetration stage in which majority of the population in some countries are still being coerced or induced to be in the bank net. Have you heard of debit cards in which you load to buy something using your useless coins? They exist. You are wrong at least on one thing and I will try to show it. There is no need to wait "forever", as you call it, for a transaction to be confirmed because you always have an option to pay a decent fee and your transaction will be confirmed in 30 minutes.

You can scroll down to the words "The fastest and cheapest transaction fee is currently ..." and if you pay that fee it's a 90%  chance that your transaction will be confirmed within the range of around 10 to 30 minutes.

For ordinary people a $2 fee might look too big, but if you are running a business that shouldn't be a problem.

Like some later commentators were saying Bitcoin transaction fees are now variable and you can opt for what suites you best and at the appropriate fees so I don't see why you're attacking it blindly, secondly I'd like to point out that there are a lot of businesses that have been built in Bitcoin already, let me point the exchanges for example; they are exchanging every day despite volatility and delayed confirmations whatsoever so what do you mean by you can't build a business on it ? The fact is you can buy some goods and daily needs depends on the country that you live. But still there are limited options to spend bitcoin directly, so that mostly people convert their bitcoin into fiat currency if they need money. The problem is to wait for days to get a confirmed transaction, that is a main problem right now. What we can do about it? just deal with it and wait until this problem be solved.

Could you please explain then? I personally am curious as to what makes BTC so attractive outside of investment opportunities. If you think it actually makes you harder to track than other forms of tender you're mistaken. Cash is pretty anonymous, BTC leaves a trail no matter how hard you try to fight it. Can that trail be obfuscated? Yea sure, but a motivated-enough adversary could absolutely figure out who you are. IMO the only use of BTC is as an investment which is a shame because its a cool idea.

That's why there are exchange websites that is providing service USD/BTC. And there are some local exchanges that allows you to convert your bitcoins to local money so that you can buy your groceries.

Aren't exchanges, gambling sites, services accepting bitcoin, bitcoin atm are all good example of businesses? You can't buy groceries  for now but maybe in the future it can happen. Bitcoin is continuously developed. Those limitations will be bridged someday.

I know that you can't buy groceries with bitcoin directly but there are some way that you can do, using bitcoin debit card for example or convert your bitcoin to the cash, simple as that.

We are above the issues of buying things with BTC, it became an investment for most of the people now and may be a financial dream in their future. If you want to buy things then just sell them and buy with your fiat, not a big problem.

Typical people be like. They thought bitcoin is for everything that they need in their everyday lives, which is wrong. Like the saying goes, be the change that you want to see in the world. If you can't buy anything with bitcoins, then maybe it's a good idea to start your very own company that accepts bitcoin for payments. Since we're almost always uptrend and it's not mandatory to withdraw your funds during a downtrend, then holding the coins is not a bad idea to counter the volatility of bitcoins.

Using an example I used earlier today, you can ask the same question about gold. Why do people buy gold? Not to use it for daily uses, but instead as an investment option. If you look at recent news, Bitcoin has been accepted widely in Japan which probably means bitcoin can easily grow. I am also pretty sure that bitcoin will receive more media attention now. If you also easily convert your bitcoin in your country’s currency super easily. Just because Bitcoin is having some issues, it doesn’t that it will crash, every currency goes through ups and downs. No one is forcing you to keep your Bitcoin and there is certainly no point to be complaining here. You can just sell it and buy groceries with that.

I had all my hopes (and a bigger amount of money) in Bitcoin, but that scaling debate has cost cryptocurrencies at least 2 years of continued adoption. And Bitcoin the first place among Cryptocurrencies.

Yeah those negative people just need to let us go as well as their bitcoins because in that way they can move on and forget about bitcoin and someday they will get shocked because of the news that bitcoin price is over a hundred thousand dollars and that will make them regret and the only action that they can do to avoid that situation is to not leave bitcoin and work hard to get a lot of bitcoins while it is not that difficult to get and buy.

See, bitcoin price is increasing. And if you're afraid that you won't even able to buy groceries with btc, then sell your btc when the price is high and save your money in bank! Though i know that you'll regret it when the price is increasing more and more and still worth it, not like what you predict.
Or maybe you can have a day job too, and use btc as an extra income. That way, you won't need to worry you're not able to buy groceries or something like that since you have real money for them.

Bitcoin is not yet popular and widely used. Indeed, we do business bitcoin but can not be used directly as normal money. But I think in the future bitcoin will be different not a bad future so.

The first if all I'm sure that there are places where you can buy even a grocery with bitcoins. Maybe in your place there is not, but somewhere there is for sure.
Second is that business based on bitcoin is developing very fast nowadays. Yes, there is no chance that this business will lead forever, but modern generation make money on everything while it's in trend.

One idiot was saying he mined Bitcoin then dumped it for gold and is telling everyone Bitcoin is going to crash and so everyone he said should sell their BTC for gold, so then he can dump his cheap gold on them. Same old story of whales manipulating the weak and panic sellers.

Bitcoin needs compromise to achieve its scaling solutions then its possible it will be useable for groceries and coffee purchases and what not.

But even without those solutions it now seems impossible for it to die. So what's the point of it in that case? Its an asset, whats the point of holding a gold coin or bar in your home?
