Hi, new to bitcoin, I invested some money into bitcoin mid June after seeing all the hype online, since investing it's dropped like 20% really not sure what to do now if I should sell up now take a 20% loss or hang onto it and hopefully it will go up again? But after reading the news looks like it's not going to go back up?

Sorry for sounding stupid just jumped into something I didn't no anything about.

No that's not the way it will be done. You need to trust the bitcoins, they will rise up I'm sure of it. Don't sell it yet will a 20% loss thats a big money you will lose. Wait for it, just hold it for a long time. It will rise again for sure.

While hodling it, make use of it to create more BTC by lending it thru exchanges - poloniex or bitfinex (that is if you only plan or have it in BTC).

if you still have bitcoin then you should not worried if your coins is down because after this, we can see altcoin will rise. if you sell right now, you only loss, i only suggested you can hold it for a while if you can. altcoin down is because of bitcoin price need to determine new price after segwit and we need to waited. i am sure that altcoin will go up back and reach the new level price.

I agree with you totally. It was expected that prices will fall down but it’s the time to show real patience. Hanging onto coins for few more months will pay you off more than your expectations. If you want to be a good trader, don’t get panicked by fluctuations in the prices.

It's all about segwit, I'm sure people waiting the momentum for segwit event, I think just hold your coins, keep your coins in the safe place and see the instructions for prepare segwit.

you are right, the most important is we don't have to be panic. actually from this situations, beside we are learning to be patience, we can see how the coins movements in the market because of bitcoin volatile. if we can take a lesson, i am sure that we can still make profit from altcoin and no matter the coins is up and down, we can followed.

Don't worry you are not being stupid but you are being careful with your bitcoin which is good. The thing is you don't have to go all cray at this point. Just stay calm and keep your bitcoin as it is online. Make sure the wallet you choose is completely professional and is old. This is to make sure you are money is completely safe. You're not stupid, OP, but apparently you're very inexperienced in trading.  I've seen numerous threads lately about the price drop we've been seeing, and noobs who've never experienced this before are acting like a deer caught in the headlights.  My advice would be to just hold on--don't sell--and wait for the price to rebound, which it will.  And when we have enormous downward price swings, look at it as a good buying opportunity.

For real, you probably bought at bitcoin's all-time high.  What did you expect?  If you'd been paying attention to the market in 2013 you would have seen this before and realized that a drop of 50% or more is totally expected with bitcoin.  It's a crazy, volatile market.

Hold onto it. It will most definitely go up. If not next month, then soon afterwards.

op the simple advise to you is hold. Never sell it now, if you do you will lose and if you hold you will sell in future at the high profit. There is a speculation that bitcoin will touch $10,000 before 2025! The cryptocurrency is still at the infancy stage and the potential is great more than we can see now. Don't sell rather buy now if you have some risk capital.

If you say you have invested then there is no good reason to sell now with a heavy loss like 20%. Bitcoin will recover right after a few days after August 1 when everything will be settled. Many countries are trying to legalize bitcoin like India being the latest after Japan and Australia. In the long run the price of bitcoin should go up significantly so I suggest to you to keep your bitcoins and wait calmly until the price goes up.

overall the technology behind bitcoin is solid, it makes people optimistic.. so the market will recover eventually ... if you do not need to cash out your bitcoin to pay your day to day bills you can 'go long' sit in your bitcoins and wait. In the other hand the market community like exchanges, brokers, financial institutions, professional traders they have no choice ... they need to be in the battle field no matter what ...  

 

I see a lot of people pissed every time the bitcoin price drops. They bought bitcoin at $2700, and now seeing  almost 30% of their investment disappear in the fog ... they feel trapped. It feels like the market took your money compulsorily and said I will payback somewhere in the future ... if you cannot handle it you can change sides 'go short' hoping bitcoin price hit the ground  ...

Yeah. specially with the current situation, its really going crazy and a lot of investors going ga-ga over it. I hope the OP can really learn a lesson or two in this volatility of bitcoin. If you are trapped then just hold on it. Don't do anything stupid with your coin but instead hold because the possibility of the price going to rise in the future is positive. So just stay calm for a bit and be patience. On a positive note, bitcoin has somewhat recovered today and just above $2000, almost 5% increase the last 24 hours.

The best thing you should do with your coin is to hold on to them and wait. If you can't handle the prices you see in the market or in the trading sites then I would suggest for you to stay out of it for the meantime. Just make sure to secure your coins too so it won't get lost.

I agree with you staying out of the market for a while is really helpful because if you keep on watching what is going on then your emotions will take control of everything. In my own opinion what you should do now is to hold pending when the market value of Bitcoin increase before you sell. No investment is free from risk so, since you have taken the risk of investing in crypto currency you will make it from your investment because no matter the decline in the market value of Bitcoin it will bounce back after 1st August meeting.

It's not about professional and much examples of wallet simple you should visit the websites where you can store bitcoins. I would suggest you coinbase which is the best and free wallet.

Where you can save your bitcoins online and also there is option which is 100% protected to make new wallets address to store a lot of bitcoin. So iwanna tell you that it is not about professional and more it is just about online websites which is protected or not.

If you are new at trading and don´t have any trading skills just put your BTC in a paper wallet and store it safely away from any thiefs and mostly away from your emotions... Don´t sell now at a loss. Come back in a few months and see your BTC more valuable tahn it is now.

Holding a coins is better way to keep it, even the price down so badly. Because even its happening the value of the coins who dropped had no choice but to go up the price again. In short, you must be stick on your original plan.

The first thing I want to bring is BITCOIN IS A POTENTIAL CURRENCY. Now you are the one acting like a noob here. Op never said he invested in some hyip. By hype, he was referring to all the noise and buzz on Bitcoin from every direction. He obviously swallowed them hooks and sinkers and that explains the situation he is having. I think his nerves must have calmed  by now because a bottom to the price of Bitcoin seems to have been reached and a rebound is on course. If op took the advice given him here, not to join the FUDsters, he would probably be happy now. However the situation highlighted the fact that one has to properly equip oneself with right knowledge and skills in any business one intend embarking on to ever dream of success.

For me you should hold your btc for long time and wait until the price comes up again. This is natural when news coming will give impact to real market ( August ), nothing to worry about it. There's many option you can do, sell your btc become currency, maybe altcoin or just hold it like I said. There's risk we deal on real market and you should know about it. Never join something without knowledge and friend to know about it. Just do like I said and deal the risk, learning by doing for better investment. Good luck.

Holding them would be the best choice. It will get back to its previous price or go back up more in upcoming days. If you want to learn trading or invest then try them on but be careful where you do as everything is risky here.

If you don't need to use that money for something else then the best option is waiting more till the bitcoin's price increase enough again. You never lose any money unless you sell your coins. Just wait more and be busy with something else so you won't have to think about your bitcoin often.

The price of Bitcoin have mow rallied and it's for you to decide if to take profit or to keep holding. According to me, now you should wait. Btc prices are starting to rise. Today the btc price is $ 2750. And it will continue to increase, especially after August 1. You lost 20% and if you sell it will not get back. So you should wait. Just a short time later I think you will get back the lost 20% and maybe have the profit.

If you did still hold as of now then im sure you are on breakeven on those last days when price do hits up 2800 again or even on profits. Hopefully you did sell on those pricepoints when you do see you are on profits which is common thing to do when we are already seeing some gains. you can sell your coin on your balance now,and switch them with other coin with same price or little higger which have more bright potential to rising. dont try to switch with popular coin like doge etc, that coin have stabilized price,so you need more time if you switch your coin now with popular coin

Selling off altcoins and investing into bitcoin is the advice you can find through out this forum. Other than bitcoins, we may go for few highly established altcoins but I am sure we must be having very less number of altcoins to which we can trust for investing with. I am also holding bitcoin and few top altcoins.

With bitcoins and top altcoins, we all do need to do right now must be, keep up faith high and must continue holding them. Even altcoins may not show big bump in coming days, along with bitcoin appreciations we can see top altcoins also will be valuing high.

I am holding my coins, lots of people are panicking and selling Bitcoin for Dollars or buying altcoins through spending their Bitcoins but not me. Holding my Bitcoins and will claim Bitcoin Cash after the segwit. Its double profit for everyone.

Op I think you will get many help if you can explained the coins you are currently holding in other to have a professional advise on them. If you think you should sell based on the current situation of price you may sell at lose as you may not known the position of things about those particular coins.

Convert your'e coins into real money, Like i think that is what everyone is doing. Try to invest in building mining rig, So you can earn coins passively. Well, I guess you learned from your mistake. Regarding about you're question even the price dropped, you don't need to panic stay at ease and calm. Because, the price of it has choice but to go up again, just be patience to wait.

let just be calm , we cant predict what will be happens but we can trust it, just pray for a guidance and you will have it. just hold on, we are traders we need to manage our emotions in order for us to keep calm and not to sell our coin in a less profit.

Not so long ago there was a similar topic and he was suffering a loss of about 40% of the investment. And the only advice for him as well as you is is: wait. That is the only way to help you lose money and if you are lucky you will have some extra money.Now, The only thing you need is time to the market can stabilize and the price can rise again. Another good advice for you is not to invest all your money in btc or an altcoin.

One thing that I learned with trading is patience, I use to ba a day trader and most of the time scalping for any fast oppurtunity in trading, I look for coins that are being pumped, buy and sell right away ang ho away with small profits. Holding longer have its rewards and sometimes more than you are expecying and thats what makes trading crytocurrency different from trading syocks in real life. HODL on whatever you have right nlw but still trybto read signals if its about time to abandon and look for other oppurtunity. Learn and move on.

I checked in july the price was 2500$ we today it is at 4100$+ see what I'm trying to say loses will occur but if you are still holding you could easily make 2 times the amount you invested. Just invest and hold don't think about small drops in the price

In the first first place, you must believe that bitcoin will become 10, 000$ so even if the price crash down, just stay at ease and be calm only and relax. Due to it will recover again the original price like what happened late 2013 from 1000$  each bitcoin it dropped to 200$ but look what the price of bitcoin now it is almost 4000$, now the investors who bought bitcoin at 200$ then who hold it are now I can say a millionaires because of bitcoin. See the effect of holding in a long term. ;)

That long term holding is proven profitable and thus you've been discussing was just a sort of repeated information which I think everybody knew already. It's not almost 4K$ usd but we already achieved that speculations came to reality now, and based on the price latest updates we are now at that price after successive buying demand happened. So it's now heading up again up to $5K usd soon, then you should have patience and control your emotions toward price fluctuations that might affect your decisions.

I think now already OP knew this truth of Bitcoin. Because he started this thread when the price was near to $2k or under $2k I am not sure. Suppose if he still holds that bitcoins in his wallet then now already he got 100$ profit. Becasue the price is now above $4k. So within just 1 month, he experienced how the Bitcoin will give profit in long term now we don't need to explain him anything.

This is right,If OP did still hold his coins until now for sure he would really make huge profits as of now since the price have risen up incredibly high but if he sold of those coins or cut loses on those times because he saw 20% drop im sure he would regret as of now on making such decision. This is always been part of the risk on engaging to bitcoin, if you have weaker hands then expect you will regret later.

Bitcoin's price is volatile that's why a price drop of 20% is not that rare when it comes to cryptocurrencies. If you can observe the price of bitcoin and compared it few years ago, you will think twice of selling your bitcoin now at a loss because eventually price will go up and not only a few people say that because the reputable people are the ones who are predicting it. Businessmen, investors and traders have a prediction that bitcoin's price will continue to go up as it gets more attention especially to the mainstream media that usually reach the ordinary people who do not know the existence of bitcoin have information of it and then eventually may be interested to it which is an additional potential demand to make the price go up.

I think you should sell your coin if the price is higher so that you can earn more money. This coin will help you to become rich so you should be wise and smart in managing this coin of yours. But in case of emergency you can sell your bitcoin anytime.

I have one way to do something while waiting my coins to rise up again, I invest some of my coins through investing on a mining rig  so i can earn coins passively while waiting. Some of traders here usually come up with their emotions and sell their coins hastely then they will lose profit. It was really a good thing to just wait for awhile.

your Identity appears new in bitcoin, but in your question, you have invested already :'( with the knowledge of investing, I expected you to have known that their is scaling/ rise and fall In value per time, which should be enough for you to expect a rise at a good time.

Yeah your'e right every traders is experiencing this moment when their coins value are decreasing. But its true it will rise up again. Try to read good news articles about your coins. Try to control your emotions, Rushing to sell your coins in a lower value is not a good idea. Try to wait more time, You already know before you start that trading is very risky.

u need to have a lot of patience...even in the real world stocks r like that..sometimes they go low and they come back up...u need to trust in the place u find your self or trust in your guts to lead you....bit coin as far as i remeber keeps going down adn up and it always come back up with lot of raise in %...just learn more as u wait and by the time u know it u will be fine and laughinf to the bank
 

of course it will back up again probably it will hit 5000 next year , just hold it no need to worry , of course there will be dump but it will back skyrocket again , thi happen few months ago and you know right now how much its price

Well if you can't bear even 20% loss then I don't think you should hold or invest in crypto currencies further because the volatility is much more than 20% even in the micro short term.

However, I am assuming that you have not sold your funds and if you have the private keys of your bitcoin wallet in which you have funds then you can claim Bitcoin cash using it and that would reduce your 20% and even the price of Bitcoin surged than original price, so I am sure you are no more at a loss stage. Well if you've invested in btc mid june then surely you're not in a loss anymore but in a very good profit. He price today was like 4x of what it was back then and should have good earnings by now same as me.

u need a strong hands to avoid ur losses if a market is going to a bearish. I prefer to you to do long term investment because Long term investment is really good way to make money. I always do long term investment than day trade because I know that long term is more better than day trade.

we dont really know when was the price go down but when you hold your coin make sure that you have the patience in holding because to tell you honestly its hard to hold because we do not know when will the price go up so i think we should have the patience in holding so i think you should hold your coin.

If you can't wait or hold then sell to cut your loses and divert it with another coin,But for me it just 20% loss that not really worrying unless you loss 80% with your investment.Bitcoin is a game of patient and hype.Don't be carried away if you see that you are in negative just be patient.

my advice if you are stuck at a very high price and suffered a loss when you sell your assets then you better hold your coin until the coin price increases again, never to make the same mistake.

If you have more times you can cut loss it and buy others coin that the price in the bottom to recover loss, but this is need more knowledge to handle it. And if you dont have times and dont have pasion for that, hodl is only the solution, forgot for year about that your coin and could be with crypto market that keep growing also the price will explode.

Mine loss 50% of its original value but keep holding till i get back my investment with profit much better.. Or if want to cut your loss and start new trade or buy other potential alts and roll it on market to get back your 20% loss..

 For me just hold your coin for  a while because the value of the coins in the market cant makes you profitable because it is in the low amount, just wait for the perfect timing that it will in the high stage.
