Title: How do you deal with stress?
Post by: Nebell on July 17, 2017, 09:18:45 AM
I got into altcoin trading just recently, a week or so ago.
Honestly I never dealt with exchanges before and this is all new to me but it's both fun and very stressful. I'm not a big time player, in fact I started out with nothing and just mined some Hush, sold that and bought ARK/Waves/Shift/Espers. I own maybe $500 worth of coins right now lol, but I plan to increase this.
However stress is getting to me. I keep checking the prices, trying to buy low and sell high and I do that at work now as well and even dream about it. I dreamed Espers was getting pumped and my exchange closed Espers trading and I woke up all pissed off and sweaty and cursing the non existent exchange.
I'm not very interested in the tehnology I just want to trade as I find that a lot of fun. But I need to deal with the stress somehow ;D

beer+fags+never invest more than you can afford to lose :)

(mind you I sold 80BTC @ $2AUD each and 18000 LTC for $160AUD some years ago so I'm not the best person to provide advice :))

I hold. Buy low , set exit point and never sell until price reach the target I wanted or until I think profit is enough and time to move on to a better/stable project.

Never lost a dollar on any coin.

If you really want to deal with stress just check the prices once or three times a day, and hold it until you get profit. Watch out for news about the exchanges you use, so that you wont get pissed off next time and lastly, have fun doing other recreational activities in real life besides trading and being in front of your computer all day.

If you don't want to stress, have a plan and stick to it.

Assess the situation, inform yourself about the news surroundings your investments, and use the information you have gathered to make a decision.

What are the factors that will have an influence on the price of a coin in the short, medium and long term? Answer these questions then you will be able to make informed predictions: how much you want to risk in a given coin, how low or high does it have to go before you buy or sell it, ... . Keep yourself up to date with the news in case some factors have changed or new ones have come into play.

If you don't want to bother with all that but still want to trade then you can also just stick to technical analysis, the "art" of drawing lines on charts and stuff. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't, if you keep that in mind then you won't risk much money in a trade unless you are very confident about your prediction. Open a position, put stop-loss/take-profit orders then go on with your day

And if you just want to trade then take it as a hobby and not as your new job because more likely than not you will lose money in the beginning before you get more experienced about the risks involved (the more things go wrong the more you realize that what you thought were certainties just weren't so)

If you don't deal with that stress but keep on trading every day then after a while it will eat you alive and make you broke. And there is the usual "don't invest more than you can afford to lose", if you can see what you're doing as a game and a gamble then you will be much less stressed about it.

I agree if you are really experienced trader that would you do, and that is the right thing. Though those newbie they are selling their coins at also low so they get any profit from it hence they losses they capital from it. Hold is the best way and the is the a test to your patience on what will you do, if you can hold it in a period of time until the price pumps then that is really good and you can earn a ton of profit from it.

It's much less stressful if it's money you can afford to lose. imo that should be the main piece of advice.

Well I am not stressing about prices going up and down. I believe they will recover and I'm not selling stuff because it goes down.
I'm a miner, what I mine is what I use to play with at exchanges. I invest my mined coins into something that I believe is a better project. Maybe my $500 is not much for you guys, but I just started out a month ago and the prices have crashed a lot so it will only grow. Having to check prices constantly is what's starting to consume me.

2. I buy at low price
3. Safely hold
4. I forget about them for a while
5. I follow and check the roadmaps

People who early came to trading world and thought they will earn well it would made them dreamed just like you and made you less focus on actually what is your purpose/goal also it would made you impatient. The best way to make your stress get away just find new activities it will more nice if you hangout with your friend and start learn something new.

Why are you sticking with "buy coin, hold or forget for 6 month"..
During that 6 month, a lot of mega jump may happen and you may loose significant funds..
Holding coins without daily checking/analyze isn`t smart way..

When it comes to crypo trading, you just have to be on top of the web page and even refreshing every now and then because the rate at which price changes is something that one could end up making loss just by not being timely. But the way to do that is to use bots but you need to understand and study it very well as it could also be an haphazard decision to make but it will save you the stress of having to check the direction of price every time.

Why he is saying buy the coin, hold or forget for 6 months means he is observing market flow from last few months or years and checking how the coins will grow in 6 months of period. That is why he is saying. it means long term investment. And you also right in the middle of this 6 months we have chances to miss good opportunities many times. So you buy coin to hold 6 months but keep checking the updates don't sit ideally.

You are just getting too serious with this stuff. If you are really enjoying on trading you should not think it too much inspite on stressing out yourself its much better to follow the essential steps on doing trading. Buy low sell high just like that. Stress would be more if you do see that all of your coins are on negative which if its your first time you would really panic and cut loss for sure and you should really be ready on this one because it does give more stress than on the thing you are experiencing as of now.

buy into promising project like ark and withdraw to your wallet then vote for someone to get more ark. No reason to flip flop and check into it often, crypto and stock go up and down, there shouldn't be stress over it.

Keep your expectations low .. anything can happen in crypto .. So you need a stable thought process to avoid hasty decision. If you are stressed, chances of you making mistake is higher.
Divert your attention, learn how market works .. invest in stable coins so you will have peace of mind and you won't keep staring at charts all the time to see how much you earned and lost.   :) :)

It's fine for people like you to get strees, same like me when start trading or get loss. But every one has the same problem with different solutions. Try to fix your strategy with long time period with wise management, use only 60% from your money. If you feel strees just hang up your pc and get some rest, that's the easy way to still fresh. Good luck.

My advice would be to set decent stop/loss limits and don't risk more than 5% of your equity per trade (or 1% of your total capital). I know you won't make a killing this way, but you are playing it safe and can get returns of 4% to 8% per month even when the market is bearish.

technical analysis is key for trading crypto, dont listen to those that dont. when you observe the prices and charts, you'll soon find a pattern which traders adhere to.

take deep breathes. and only use gambling money.

I just go out from the market and do other things that are worth of my time because there is nothing can help for my stress in the market if i will just stick with it everyday, i'm always trying to do other things like read some books or spend some of my time in nature so i can be relaxed and feel refreshed.

remove as much of the risk as possible...

store your coins on a device dedicated for storing crypto. I recommend wiping any device you plan to use for this and set it up properly and of course to not use this device for anything else (as well as leaving it offline as much as humanly possible). Also look into hardware wallets, store all the big name coins on a hardware wallet and store all your small alts offline on a paper wallet or on your dedicated device. Don't store on exchanges, that solves alot of the risk.

Decide before you even take the trade what your goals are. Is this a long term thing? you want to hold it for years? months? set yourself a point where you will sell if the trade moves against you, or only put in what you are 100% willing to lose (especially now).

Define your risk to something you are comfortable with so you can sleep at night. Once you take a trade you need to keep it on unless it either A: hits the price you decided you will sell at if it moves against you, or B: it rises to where you want to take some profit. Don't focus on it, look up the price 1x in the morning and 1x at night, after that enjoy the rest of your day. Don't listen to others unless it's something you can verify as truthful. I can't tell you how many times I've seen stock analysts be completely wrong about a stock they are talking about, the same applies to the crypto market.

Also, traders that trade less tend to be more profitable. Playing the whole sell at the top to rebuy the bottom is hard to do. Just hold and be happy with the profit you do make, and keep your eye out for good altcoins to do the same with.

Besides all the advice everyone has given already, if you trade long enough you almost don't feel stress anymore.  You get a sense of how markets work and what to expect, and also how to plan accordingly incase your decisions aren't turning out how you thought.  Basically always have a plan b to every action in place and think 3 steps ahead.

day trading is by definition stressful, since as you've mentioned you have to check prices on a daily basis and make decisions that impact you psychologically

it's especially stressful if it's your full time job

I'd recommend to change from day trading to long term trading, what I mean by that is to invest your money on whatever you believe will have the most value in the future, and forget about it (make sure not to forget your private/public keys though)

If you take the decision that you will not sell within the next, let's say five years, you will have an instanteous relief and the fact that prices are down one day, won't affect you psychologically, as you've already made the decision that you're not gonna sell anytime soon

Rising and falling prices is a natural thing. I hold and plan it for the long term, but the coin I hold must have a good project. Just like me when I started trading, get stressed when the price goes down. When that happens I start leaving trading while to look for something fun out there

Just try to figure out what the coin is for, what are the team members proposing, why it should increase its value, what are the main obstacles, and be confortable with your investment.

And, of course, as said in the first reply, never put money you can't afford to lose.

Firstly do not get upset over price rise/fall. This is tend to happen so you do not have to worry over it. Yes if the price is continuously falling then sell off your holding and buy later when it drops further in this way you will feel better and once price rise you can book profits and set off your loss.

This will help you to distress yourself from this tension and enjoy your personal and family life as well.

Stress comes to all kriptocoin traders, if it comes I prefer to turn off my computer and try to hold back to see the price until the next few months and try to find entertainment in some places. I suggest if you always emphasize in looking up and down prices, you should do long-term trading.

I try not invest too much untill I know more about what I am doing. I'm stressful times I blast my music as load as it can go on my sound system. Feeling the bass in your cheat is the best feeling ever. But golden rule is not to risk what you cannot afford to lose. So don't invest your rent money.

If your realized loss is more than 20% of your account, you should definitely stop trading for few weeks

Ask if anything you do is gonna matter in 100 years. If the answer is "No", then maybe it's not worth stressing about.

That's something a good way to eascape the strees. However, it's not a way to prevent the stress. In my opinion, stress can be eliminated if we'll treat everything as easy and we do it one by one. Doing multi tasking cause us stress.

i have the same experience like you in the past and i can tell you how to deal with your stress like what i do. if you have much of amount for each coins, try to make order sell in 3 range of the price, if you are sure the coin will be pump, then you can place your 3rd or more order sell in high price maybe at 500% when the price is pump. don't sell all of your coin only with one price but make it separately in many range price. from all of your coins, you should leave little amount in your wallet just in case if the coins is getting increase more or you can have for long term investment.

after you make that, you can do another activity you want, don't to often to watch the coin in the market, makes your time worth by doing anything, maybe you can check the coin once for 3 day or week. don't feel like you are waiting for the pump but try to look what is happen in the market only. i hope you can deal with your stress  ;D ;)

Many ways to deal with stress on altcoin trade. But if you are just doing altcoin stress for the first time it's natural. I just suggest if doing altcoin trading know the coin first. Search about the coin. It will reduce the stress level. I often invest long-term for altcoin and the results are maximal.

Smoke weed and jerk off, the safest vices that exist.  Beyond that avoid trying to play the markets on the short term, and look more on a 6-12 month timeline, and just hold through any volatility.  If you did your research you will make money even if you time your entry poorly and buy right before a dip.

I remember once buying some BitBay at 160 sats, only to see it crash down towards 50.  I was able to have the ability to just say "fuck it" and I bought more, and about a year later it has paid off.

I have the same experience as yours when I came into this world. And now I think the work and the life are more important, and I choose to buy some ICO tokens as a long term investment, instead of trying to buy and selling old coins.

I hold. Buy low , set exit point and never sell until price reach the target I wanted or until I think profit is enough and time to move on to a better/stable project.

Never lost a dollar on any coin.

Best way in my opinion.

Buy 1000 cheap coins spend.

0.010

List them for 0.25

Do this with ten coins.

Cost 0.1

If one coin comes in you have. 0.25

Managing your stress is the best way to escape from it. Don't think too much about the tokens you're holding, always think about positive side, have a positive vibes always. Me? I always think that the price always rise afterwards.

as you are new to this side don't invest that you cant aford to lose start with a small amount to understand how to buy sell and in which orice to buy and which to sell. and for reducing stress you can set a target which you want to sell. thenn set a sell order and nt look at the marmet much thua you ll b able to ruduce stress. when It was mh fjrst time I was also like you I was very tensed.but now day by day it has become okey.now I don't fell that stress

Dealing with stress is simple if we think but difficult to do. But I suggest that if your stressed and angry, better stop what you're doing and do things that make you happy or make you calm. It might ruined the things you're actually doing if you're stress just chill for a moment and make fun.

actually its easy to deal with stress but not every people know how to solve stress out. when i get stress, i take a deep breath, walk out from my home, enjoy my coffee while i can watch my neighborhood and maybe i can talk with other people if he/she is in beside me. or the other thing that i can do is i am going to wash my hands and my foot, get to sleep for a while. it is helped me to release the stress.

Perhaps try to limit the number of times on checking the price, because it'll inevitably fluctuate and add on to your stress. As advised by the other traders out there, it would be best to set a goal or price for you to sell and to hold on to it. Try to get your mind off of it sometimes. It seems to me that you've been thinking about it too much, to the point that you dreamt about it. Always think positively, and when you feel the stress just try to relax.

If you want to deal with you stress maybe you should set some time on when you will gonna check your coins and go to sleep if your head is numbing to see the real time prices of the coins you hold but make sure you have a app that can make you monitor the prices on real time around so that you will not miss those precious times with your behold coins.

First of all you are the one who choose to be stress. You can also choose the other one. But like what you are asking on how do I deal with stress, it is answerable by one few word only. DO WHAT YOU LOVE THE MOST. I hope it can help.

You definitely need balance, trading is really stressful especially if the coins you are holding are beginning to drop, this is because you are new here once you get the hang of it everything will be settled. Be sure you only invest what you can afford to lose and do not touch your emergency fund just for the sake of trading

To deal stress with trading is the hard thing to do also. With trading when you have your coins is divide it that is  for short term and long term. Also to avoid this kind of problem when you put money is to invest on what you can afford to lose. All we have to remember is in trading there is always a risk.
