Title: Why yacoin will succeed
Post by: xan_The_Dragon on May 14, 2013, 12:59:02 AM
i think YACOIN despite its name is a huge contender what do the two major cryptocurrencies have in common
BTC was the first sha-256 crypto (and yes the first crypto)
LTC was the first scrypt crypto
Correct me if i am wrong, but yacoin employs a new hashing algorithm so it will be the first of that type of hashing algorithm
So i think yacoin will stand out amongst the crowd of new coins

From a other thread:
BTW - scrypt-jane isn't a hashing algorithm.  It's a software library that supports several different scrypt-based hashing algorithms, including scrypt+Salsa20/8 as used in Litecoin and scrypt+ChaCha20/8 as used in Yacoin.  The library is here:

https://github.com/floodyberry/scrypt-jane (https://github.com/floodyberry/scrypt-jane)

Assuming the OP wants cgminer for Yacoin specifically, a change in the title of the thread is probably warranted, as "scrypt-jane" doesn't refer to the hashing algorithm in Yacoin.  It's ambiguous which scrypt-derived algorithm one is referring to if you say "scrypt-jane".

Edit: Not hoping it won't succeed. I have quite a huge share in Yac and still holding.

So stable at such a low price, it actually costs money to mine it...And don't start on the free power, blah, blah, blah...Someone is paying the power bill.

Good points and bad points with yacoin. It is innovative, but the release and initial difficulty have really screwed the market. It will be interesting to see how the N bump tonight goes.

As long as transactions remain fast and the price isn't too volatile it's all good. ;D

We'll see in a few hours after the N++ event, but if coin supply continues to slow down eventually most coins will be in strong hands or Stake mining cold wallets.

the wallet emptying was not true.  a smear campaign put together by some people looking to make a quick buck.

it will not succeed if it used only for mining & trading, anybody that can give some hints on how to build some apps with php? i don't have experience with BTC so can't figure out where to start looking for some examples of tutorials.

I don't have anything to sell (unless I brainstorm something) otherwise I'd definitely start selling something hat can be paid solely with yac.

We have to talk some asic seller in accepting yac  ;D ;D

People are seriously shitting it, I'll have no funds to buy it anymore :)

The bizarre thing is that CNC and FTC, both lame forks of LTC no different from the other 400 similar coins, are trading at more than twice the value of YAC.

Defies explanation

I don't think a coin that has a yak in it's logo can ever reach mainstream acceptance. Maybe as a joke coin, but certainly not as a serious contender in the crypto universe. I would put it on the same level as BBQ Coin, except that BQC was the original joke coin, so YAC is actually inferior to BQC.

There are official flags (of organizations and state regions) with animals on them, why it is not "serious" for cryptocoins?

If it wasn't bad enough that the coin has a yak in it's logo, imagine what people will think when they learn that the name stands for 'yet another alt-coin'.

Where's the originality in that? People want a catchy name that they haven't heard before, not regurgitated ones. I think having a good name can be instrumental to the success of a crypto-coin, and a bad name can be detrimental to a crypto even if it has a good innovative concept.

You have a point there definitely. Both YAC and JNK creators made coins that vere pretty innovative compared to crap that was and still announced here but both were half-arsed in naming their coins. Stupid and childish thing to do.

Though I think YAC managed to run away from the full name pretty much...  YAC is already used by almost anyone, that full name is rarely mentioned..

I would have preferred YIYAAC: Yac is yet another alt coin

YACoin like YES!Coin ...as opposed to NOCoin. Better than OKPay because you don't sound so unsure about it. When teaching your kids about crypto-currencies you can call it YabadabadoCoins and the cool kids on the streets call em YAKS. "I got these Rollies, you got any YAKS?"
YACoin branding is much better than most other alts especially peepee, feather and china.
Ditching of 'yet another alt' is a must for obvious reasons. And if pocopoco isn't interested in moving forward with this we need to take it over.

I personally don't think ditching "yet another" is necessary. I quite like it, gives it some old school geek charm. ;)

Most people are just calling it YAC anyway.

the most interesting thing about alt coins is how desperate people are to convince themselves the coin they've chosen is superior even if they don't actually understand how and it's destined to succeed!

I started forking bitcoin-abe last night, did a few things, hit a couple of brick walls, read some posts, etc.

I'm happy to collaborate with you to get it rolling, or leave it to you. Entirely up to you, I just want it up and running asap. Shall we continue via PM?
