Title: How can I send bitcoin without fee?
Post by: tounsi7orr on July 31, 2017, 09:03:51 AM
Hello, Everyone!
I will send small amounts of BTC to dozens of people and I don't like to pay sending fees.
Is there any way to avoid it?
I tried Xapo but it sucks and become full scam so I really need your help for a good way to send BTC without fees.
Thanks in advance.

Funny and who exactly should pay for all the current it needs to perform your transaction!?
You've to pay the fees.

You can't send without fees altogether but you can certainly reduce the amount that you have to pay.

Some wallets, including Electrum and my TREZOR, allow you to send to several people in one transaction.  This increases the size of the transaction less than sending all the transactions individually and reduces fees. It's also more convenient.

If you're using a wallet which is under your control, instead of a wallet which holds your coins for you (Xapo), you should also be able to customise your fees.  If your transaction is low priority, you should easily be able to pay fees of 20-40 satoshi/byte for now and they would get confirmed.  You can check http://bitcoinfees.21.co (http://bitcoinfees.21.co) to check how long your transaction will usually take to confirm in the network's current state.

However, be wary of sending transactions until after the chain splits occuring tomorrow.  I would say that sending today is a pretty bad idea, especially when there's less than four hours or so until the fork.

Transaction fees are mostly an incentive to stop spam from going too far.  Miners would still have high income without them due to the block reward.  Furthermore, if the reward decreased the transaction would still happen and be confirmed.

I don't think there are wallets offering for free if you send bitcoins, whether it is a small amount or a large amount of btc's and obviously there is still a miner fee but you can choose a much lower offer for every transaction. I think there are certain wallets now that can make you choose low, medium or high fees for sending out bitcoins.

Every wallets needs fee before sending it out the bitcoin to another address, everything in this world needs fee or payment  for them to do thier job,its not always free.

Wow how cheap are you. Expecting something for nothing. You want the world in exchange for nothing. Why would you even think this would work ? Everything costs money no matter what. You could out 0 fee but this only worked years ago. It won't now. You need to create incentive for the miner to mine the block your transactions are on.

Trade your bitcoin off the blockchain. The transaction fee comes with access to and the confirmations provided by those running blockchain nodes.

If you want to avoid the fees conduct your transaction off the blockchain. Start your search on Local Bitcoins.

i don't think you can send bitcoin without any fee. you can minimize the fee but not nullify it.
the fee is needed for miner to confirm your btc transaction.
even lowering the fee could really harm your transfering speed.

anyway if you dont like transaction fee maybe you could create your own wallet free of transaction fee , i'm sure everyone here will use it :D

Every transaction needs a fee. That's the reward for miners on processing it.

Actually you can send bitcoin for free if you may but don't expect it to deliver on time or will be delivered at all because what you are trying to happen is getting a service for free that it is in demand right now.

as far as i know every transaction take fees. so you can not avoid it. as like blockchain now you can customize the fees that will cut from your balance, normal transaction not more than 1 hours but if you decrease fees your transaction may not be confirmed.

It is not possible to send bitcoins without transaction fee, the wallets offering no transaction fee seems like a scam. Its better to give some fee instead of putting all of your funds on risk.

Just like any other transaction, this might require you to pay a fee but you might be able to send the transaction without a fee, depending on the size, you can also try Electrum.

what about Priority transactions as described here Bitcoin Wiki Transaction fees (https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Transaction_fees)
do they still apply these day on deciding which transactions that miner would include in a block?
as in having having higher bitcoin days (age) would raise the transaction priority and requires less min tx fee
does coin age taken into calculation of tx priority these days or only based on tx fee sats/byte?

You have to pay the fee. The more fee you pay the faster transcation will be. On some wallets you can choose how high the fee will be.

It is good if all of bitcoin user use coins.ph but the transaction can be free if you can send it coins.ph to coins.ph users but if you send the bitcoin outside of the coins.ph expect it will ask for miners fee from slow to fastest transaction of your choice.

I heard coinbase is one of the alternative but right now after the price was increase from past few months they are not asking for the fee unlike before..
Much better to look for a wallet which is you can control the miners fee when sending bitcoin i recommend electrum as bitcoin wallet never had any problem and i can pay small fee i just checking what the best fee here bitcoinfees.21.co

You can't see a bitcoin without paying or setting a fee because fee is needed in every transaction and it is the reason why miners are still here in our community because they are earning from confirming bitcoin transactions.

If you sending lots of transfers then use a multi wallet that way you are spending one fee once. Also your question is kinda like asking how can you drive your car without paying for fuel ?

You can't expect to not pay for things. That is how the world runs. I fail to see how you can't know this stuff if you use the wallet to send so may transactions.

You are right s it Xapo though.

for the OP's situation (sending to many people), it's not possible without fees.

If you just want to send to one person, you can theoretically just give them the priv and public keys if the balance is the right amount. you will lose that address, of course.

I think paying the fees is just easier, though.

You can achiieve tthat only when transaction log is very small or non existent. Miners will include your transactions also.
Now when traansaction log is very long and fees are very high, they won't choose to earn nothing over taking fee.

I am not sure if this method is comfortable for you or not but you can distribute your Bitcoins without paying a recurring fee using it.

Deposit your Bitcoins to your localbitcoins account and then generate coupon codes worth the amount that you want to distribute and send those coupon codes to the people you wish. As far as I know, they don't charge any fee for it. The amount will be deducted from your localbitcoins account at the time of coupon redemption.

I think you can not find the cryto wallet free of charge, that's impossible, wherever you want to send always have transaction fees like for example you will use a blockchain all the transaction send or received always with a fee, it's because blockchain is also a business of the owner so you need to pay per transaction, and take note no one bitcoin wallet is free to transaction.

I think you can do is just send it to wallet to wallet. in the same site i think you don't need to spend fees for it (Coins.ph doesn't give you fee if you just send it to another wallet there for Philippines).

You can send no fee transaction if you have really old coin, i.e. amount of BTC multiply by days unspent meeting some minimum threshold.
However, this feature has been reduced over the years and now totally removed in the latest Bitcoin Core 0.15 under "Removal of Coin Age Priority".
So if you are still running 0.14.2, you could be lucky enough to have your no fee transaction mined by the few pools that still accept this type of tx,
assuming that your tx meet the original minimum requirement of no fee tx.
But most pools now days simply reject no fee tx and with blocks almost always full with large mempool queue, a no fee tx getting mined is very
unlikely.

There is no way to send bitcoin without fee. Fee is for the transactions, without fee there will be no transactions.
But, if there is a local wallet in your country, maybe you can make a transactions without fee.
Usually the transactions has to be in the same local wallet. Like mine in my country.

You can't spend and send your bitcoin without a fee because it is required in the blockchain to have a fee in every transaction so the people who are keeping the blockchain strong will be rewarded and they will continue their work and be more loyal to bitcoin. Fee is a reward to others and we should reward them for supporting the blockchain.

Every transaction requires a fee! The fees are based on your blocktime.
If you're looking into free transactions You can opt for mIOTA instead!
They are using tangled network! Lots of large organization is using because it's free from expensive fees.

You can send without fees if you're transacting off-chain, you don't have to pay fees within Coinbase, Xapo and probably also other wallets I'm not familiar with.

You will not be able to transact without fees on chain.

Xapo also charges fees now. They did not charge fees or maybe they did but they never asked at the time of transaction, but now a days they are doing that, and i don't think there is any way to send transactions without fees because if there were and it was working, then everyone would have been doing that.
Well, the transaction fee is not taken by the service provider, so it does not matter how big it is for the quality of the service.
Most wallet providers take big fees, because want to send the transaction fast, and that is the reason the fee is big.
Other wallets have the option to use lower fee in this case the transaction may take some more time to get into the blockchain.
If the protocol is not changed it is possible to send transactions with no fee, but due to the big traffic of transactions, it will not be included into the new blocks, as transactions are ordered by transaction fee => bigger fee first in line. There is a limit of how many transactions can be stored in one block.
So as the pending transactions are much more then the space available no fee transactions will not fill for days, or even never...
btw there is a way to monitor this and choose to send transactions when fees are lowest, but that will take lots of work to monitor it as there is no service that I know of.

Beware of scam and pay your fees! There's no such thing as a free lunch
As stated above the fee is not for the service provider, but for the miners, so the scam or not the fee is ther ;)

You can't. If you send transaction without adding fee nobody is going to confirm it.
You can send transaction with no fee, but as there is BIG trafic now, the transaction may take several days to go, or it may expire before there is less transactions with fees then the block size.
Miners confirm transactions anyways, as they get block reward (different then transaction fee). But because the total reward for miners is: block reward (12.5BTC) + sum of all transaction fees (even if they low or 0), the miners sort transactions for their fees.

In final words: If you do not need fast transaction (you will not want to exchange it now for alt coin to catch good ratio), or you want to buy access to some services that they give access once transaction has passed => you are probably ok to try and do send the transactions with no fee.
But if you need to transfer it fast or relevantly fast you have to pay fee ;)

Hope this will help you all ;)

Miners usually don't accept to confirm a transaction without reward. You better make  a good fee to avoid freezing your transaction.

Just wanted to point out:

"Historically it was not required to include a fee for every transaction. A large portion of miners would mine transactions with no fee given that they had enough "priority". Today, low priority is mostly used as an indicator for spam transactions and almost all miners expect every transaction to include a fee. Today miners choose which transactions to mine only based on fee-rate.

Transaction priority was calculated as a value-weighted sum of input age, divided by transaction size in bytes:

priority = sum(input_value_in_base_units * input_age)/size_in_bytes
Transactions needed to have a priority above 57,600,000 to avoid the enforced limit (as of client version 0.3.21). This threshold was written in the code as COIN * 144 / 250, suggesting that the threshold represents a one day old, 1 btc coin (144 is the expected number of blocks per day) and a transaction size of 250 bytes.

So, for example, a transaction that has 2 inputs, one of 5 btc with 10 confirmations, and one of 2 btc with 3 confirmations, and has a size of 500bytes, will have a priority of

(500000000 * 10 + 200000000 * 3) / 500 = 11,200,000
Historic rules for free transactions
A transaction was safe to send without fees if these conditions were met:

It is smaller than 1,000 bytes.
All outputs are 0.01 BTC or larger.
Its priority is large enough (see above)"

There is many sites that don't have fees you can look that up at CoinMarketCap, or even just searching on google

Unfortunately this is probably not possible. The only way to send Bitcoins is with the work of miners. They use their resources such as computer hardware and electricity to do the mining and therefore they get paid for that effort. There's no way to avoid that with Bitcoin as far as I know.

However, there is an alternative. I'm not trying to promote another coin on this topic, but to fully answer your question, IOTA doesn't charge fees for sending coins. It's built into their architecture that as you send coins, you mine for 2 other transactions so everyone shares in the mining equally. The point is that if you don't want to pay a fee, you may want to consider sending IOTA rather than Bitcoin.

what i know is, you can't send bitcoin without fee, its probably because if you want to send transaction you need miner for that, and miner need money for that job to make sure that your transaction is finish.

Easy question, use OpenDime or paper wallet, as there is no other way.

A lot of mis-information floating around here. Of course you can transact bitcoin without paying a fee, you just need to conduct that transaction without intervention from a miner. The way to do that is to make the transaction off the blockchain!

OpenDime (https://opendime.com/) is perfect for these transactions. It's a device the size of a USB drive that you load with Bitcoin and then physically hand over to someone as payment for whatever reason payment is needed. The Bitcoin can be redeemed once and then the device is thrown away.

Here's a review of OpenDime from BTC Sessions (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QqkKtJSPvlU), great information here.

Anyone here used OpenDime yet?

Enjoy!

the lower the fee the more of a chance that your transaction may never get confirmed

Not true, sir. The only reason you're paying a fee is to pay the miner to confirm your transaction on the blockchain. If you transact off the blockchain there is no confirmation needed and therefore no fee assessed.

Please don't spread mis-information. Thanks.

You can only lower your fee depending on the wallet you use. The best wallets have dynamic fees which allow you to adjust the fee size you'd like to pay.

Now fees are usually small so don't worry about it because will not see the fee if you forget how small it is.

If you use coinbase then you can send bitcoin free via email ( if receiver also use coinbase). But you can not send bitcoin without fees. Because without fee miner will not accept your transaction. If miner don't accept, your transaction will be pending few days. After that your transaction will be reject. So,you can't send bitcoin without fees.

On certain platforms you can choose to withdraw you money to any physical address. So you can just enter the address where you want to send the money to withdraw for free (well 9 cents).

Not sure if you have seen my post, but I have explained how to send BTC in the Blockchain without fee!!!

The OP use-case is:
He has to make lots of micro-transactions to lots of people.
If he uses wallet that allows you to set multi recipients then he can pass all of them at once with just one fee.
If he wants that fee to be cleared, he needs to use pretty old BTC and low in hops. (as far as I understand it you need to use first generated coins, that have been generated years ago in order to fit the requirement for hi priority).

Here are the 3 rules that need to be matched so you will get in block with NO FEE at all! (we do not talk about exchange fees and other sites fees, we talk about blockchain fees):

1. It is smaller than 1,000 bytes.
2. All outputs are 0.01 BTC or larger.
3. Its priority is large enough *

1. The size of the transaction depends on the amount of historical data it needs to follow to genesis (freshly created coin).
2. The outputs need to be at least 0.01 BTC (this probably will not be meth, so the fee will be needed)
3. The priority is counted as: priority = sum(input_value_in_base_units * input_age)/size_in_bytes

So if we have transaction that has 2 inputs, one of 12.5 btc with 2016 confirmations (two weeks old mined block), and one of 2 btc with 10 confirmations, and has a size of 500bytes, will have a priority of

(1250000000 * 2016 + 200000000 * 10) / 500 = 5,044,000,000 => this is ok

* - Transactions needed to have a priority above 57,600,000 to avoid the enforced limit (as of client version 0.3.21)

Sorry, but this is completely wrong!
"the owner" of any wallet does not receive a penny for any transaction!
This is a misconception. the fee goes to the miners not some place else (exchanges charge you fee for withdraw, but if not mistaken they cover the  transaction fee for you...).
If you are using a wallet that charges you more then the transaction fee, then you should switch to a different wallet ;)

without fees? it think that's not gonna be happens, because all services whether physical or mental, there are some fee to be paid. there are no free service by now. even bitcoin, before, the transactions fee of this bitcoin is so cheap, you can send huge amount of bitcoin for a cheap fee to paid per transactions, but now its has to increase their transactions fee and that's very annoying, but that's the facts that you have to accept.

Without fee? I think it is not possible. When we send a minimum bit then also need fee. But now bitcoin transaction fee is high. If bitcoin transactions become without fee. So we will but happy. But i think not possible.
If you send bitcoin so you must need transaction fee. Without fee transactions will be not successful.

Just read one of my last posts I have explained in detail how this transaction is possible!
It is possible only if there are less transactions then the space for the next block (it is not all the time, but from time to time).
So you could prepare your transactions and send them when this opportunity opens.

But I see people talk without reading any post in here.
Talking about how it is not possible and talking about services provided by third party, when the OP asked for a wallet, not service provider, that can do this.
The "fee" for the miners  is the 0 transaction and it will be present up until 2170, so you should not worries this reward for the miners will end soon...

So it has been paid for already. Also want to note if you use service for BitCoin - you DO NOT OWN any coins... So that is BIG risk to take.

So true but sending to other wallet not in the same exchange is another story. There is always a fee as this is a fee to the miners. This miners fee  are needed in order to process your transaction.

There is always a fee as you need miners to be able to transact with bitcoins, it's a fair system though. What you can do is adjust the fee to what you want to pay, however a smaller fee means longer transaction and the opportunity of not being able to complete the transaction at all. Most wallets will let you know what is the best for you.

Nope you are wrong!

The fee is for after all BTC is mined (~2170). not now. You CAN send BTC WITHOUT fee, just need to meet some conditions.

Coinbase and other "wallets" like it are not real wallets, as they have the private key not you!
If they charge you fee it is for the service they provide. Has nothing to do with the Blockchain.
Also usually (when you take your BTC to your wallet, or to other site) they charge you the transaction fee that is needed to guarantee that the transaction will be included in the next block.
If you have to send coins each week or once a month and you do not care the speed (when will be included in the blockchain) then you can send transaction with 0 fee, just as shown few posts up (received at: 2017-09-19 15:38:22), so it is ok to send BTC with 0 fees if you use REAL wallet, not a service where you do not control the private key!

Yes once all BTC is mined (~2170) the fee will most likely be mandatory, as then the miners will need it to keep mining...

It seems that people sure are misinformed in this sybforum. Transactions can be created and pushed to the network without any fee's. I know for a fact that Electrum support this without any issues, it will just take (quite) a while to confirm.

Locking this thread since so much noise has been posted already that it's useless to even try and clean it up.
