Title: AsRock H81 PRO BTC R2.0 Does not start BIOS, no POST
Post by: Patricia91 on August 13, 2017, 09:17:10 AM
Hi everyone!
I’m building my first mining rig and there are one issue i face it right now that I can’t figure out the solution myself.
Here are the specs:
MB asrock h81 pro btc r2.0
SDD
Intel Celeron G1840 Dual Core 2.8GHZ
8 gb ddr3 ram
MSI AMD Radeon RX 580 ARMOR 4gb
1300w PSU

I have one more GPU the same RX 580 and one more to come. Stil haven’t receive my PCI-E risers, so I want to set up bios, install windows and everything. For that one GPU is enaugh, right?

So I installed everything on my motherboard and it worked very well. I mean fans on CPU, PSU and GPU are rotating and…, … that’s it. Nothing happens. Fans rotate for some time, then slow down and then rotate again as normal. I connected monitor using hdmi straight to GPU - nothing showing. I plugged other monitor using D-Sub connector on MB and nothing. I also noticed that my keyboard (Works perfectly on my other PC) I plugged in MB doesn’t work (for example num lock button desn’t light on/off when pressed). Looks like all usb slots on MB are without power. Also this D-sub slot for monitor doesn't give any signal or sign that it's doing something. Monitor is just blank. I expected to see bios startup, so I could install windows, but nothing.
Do You have any idea where is the problem?
Do You need any additional data to understand where the problem is?

Thanks in advance.

You should have bought some desktop motherboard for home PC instead of buying professional MB for mining as a newbie.

I suggest You to reinstal all your setup componentry, try to reset bios as the MB guide tells to do it and try to run it again.
Try to run it without GPU installed, use integrated one.
Also you could try to put your SSD to other SATA port - maybe it haven't drivers for Plug & Play like some of the motherboards do so try to run it as SATA II instead of SATA III port or reverse, because it maybe needed to install extra drivers after system is installed - same for USB 3.0 it may not work without extra drivers. Also you should know that USB supply will be powered after bios boot up.

Do your MB has a beep speaker installed, does it give any sound after starting the rig? If not - install it and listen to it.

Regards

To try and isolate where the problem is:

Remove the graphics card and attempt to boot using the integrated graphics with one monitor.

If you still aren't getting anything on the monitor, power everything off and clear CMOS before trying again.

If that still doesn't work, power everything off and reseat the CPU & RAM, then try again. If you have another compatible motherboard, I would suggest testing both the CPU and RAM separately to confirm that both are functioning properly.

Can you give us some more information about your PSU, or is it a no-name "1300w"?

Thanks for advice. I did it all pretty much before asking for a help.
1. i did boot without GPU - nothing happened.
2. I di clear CMOS
3. I unplugged RAM, SSD and CPU, plugged CPU back and runned - nothing.

I have this MB.

I think you need one of these:

It will help in your trouble shooting at the minimum.

I had similar trouble with the last board i purchased and only had one stick of ram available.  If the computer wouldn't boot, I would just shut down the power supply, pull the ram and reset it in the other socket and it would boot (no idea why).  While testing for best overclock, if the miner crashed then it wouldn't boot until swapping ram slots yet again.   I have other boards running with only one stick, so I am not sure what is going on. I am using the board, and it has been hashing for 6 weeks no problems.  Good luck.

Attach a speaker to your Mainboard and look up the beepcode. Probably RAM issue.

I see your pic is that with power to the board or not? Does the board have an onboard LED to indicate it is getting power.

hello guys, having the same problem, wont boot even with only 1 memory installed.

my specs:
mobo: asrock h81 pro btc r2.0
cpu: g1840
ram: kingston ddr3 1333mhz 2x4gb (already check if this memory is compatible with this mobo, yes it is)
ssd intel 180gb
psu: EVGA 600B (bronze psu, right now for 1 gpu, after a while i will buy corsair hx750i)

same problem, wont do anything after start.

im checking this: when u turn on, all componets starts, but they all shutdown for a sec and start all again.

Usually when I have this problem with a computer it is a short (something metal hitting something on the board), a PSU problem (a PSU can turn on and the fan spin but fails under load), or a bad board (I get them bad even brand new).  Of course this is assuming you know how to put a computer together and have the processor, ram, ect... set up correctly.

Its worth mentioning that a bad on/off switch will cause this also.

That is where I would start.

Are these boards more problematic than what they are worth? My first purchase for anything ASRock, and it's DOA, getting a replacement shipped out and hoping to have better luck, but seeing the amount of problems people are having with this board I am wondering if I should just purchase a completely different board altogether and go back to my trusted Gigabyte or ASUS boards.

Gigabyte has dedicated mining boards that are way more solid than the Asrock BTC R2.0. The H110 D3A for instance is cheap and works very well.
I had trouble with these boards too, until i found out that for every little change you have to reset the cmos.

Question for Asrock BTC R2.0 users:

Is anyone running these boards with monitor attached to the iGPU motherboard D-Sub connector? Or any other boards?
I noticed this just recently, that when mining XMR the monitor attached GPU has some 200MB ram usage just because of the monitor, which makes that card not being able to use as much memory as the rest of the cards. If connecting to a rig like that with Teamwiever, the rig crashes, if intensity is not lowered on the monitor attached GPU.

Can it be run connected to the iGPU or will there be problems?

Where are you at with this right now? Have you followed someone's suggestions with attaching a board speaker? Usually, post beeps are very important source of information and you would be able to troubleshoot it quickly if you know the sequence of the beeps.

Recently bought this MB from amazon, something not OK with these mobos. the only way to make it boot properly every time is to set the iGPU as default video source. IMHO better investment is H110 PRO BTC+ didnt have problems like this with it.

U can try this :
  • Move RAM to other slot & don't forget U listen to the beep codes
  • Move another SATA slot from or to SSD
  • Check a cable PSU from or to SSD
  • Try use PCIe USB Raiser 1x16 to GPU
Reboot & Good luck

I had exactly the same issue. In my case, the RAM sticks were faulty.
They have worked fine the first 5-10 bootups, later they were working only after CMOS reset and in the end they ceased to work at all.
My advice - first of all try another RAM module.

Hello all,

So I have run into this same problem. I have tried a lot of options that people have been suggesting.

My motherboard is:
ASRock H81 PRO BTC R2.0 S1150 Intel H81 2x DDR3 Motherboard - Grey

My Ram is:
Kingston KVR16N11S8/4 RAM 4 GB 1600 MHz DDR3 Non-ECC CL11 DIMM 240-Pin, 1.5 V Memory Module

My GPU is:
SAPPHIRE Radeon RX 570 NITRO+ 8 GB GDDR5 2xDP/2xHDMI/DVI-D Graphics Card - Black

My PSU is:
Corsair CP-9020098-UK VS Series ATX/EPS 80 PLUS Power Supply Unit, 650 W

My CPU is:
Intel BX80646I34170 - Core i3 (4170) 3.7GHz Processor 3MB L3 Cache 5GT/s Bus Speed

I have managed to get the system booting windows when the GPU is NOT connected. The moment I connect it up the system won't boot. I have the HDMI plugged into the GPU when booting with GPU.
I actually did manage to get it to boot once (don't ask me how) after removing the powered riser and attaching the GPU directly to the motherboard, were I was able to install the drivers etc, I restarted the computer as the fans weren't spinning on the GPU (I wanted to double check they worked). The moment it tried to restart it failed to boot.

I have tried switching around the different power loads into different places.
I am powering the GPU with a 6+2pin (turning it to an 8pin), and a second 6pin as it requires both connectors?

The ram I believe works fine as when I load up without the GPU it works fine, fast and shows 4gb of ram installed.

Any help of advice would be greatly appreciated, I have been fiddling for a good few days. Also I've noticed when the gpu is connected to the motherboard that my wired mouse and keyboard don't seem to have stable power, for instance the mouse's infrared dot isn't on, when I unplug it and plug it back it it goes red for a short second and the keyboard 'caps' lock etc won't work.

Many thanks,

Tim

Having the same problems on this board. I can't find a solution. Yes I did everything needed for checking. Still not working. Hay but the fans work ..even on the gpu. :D

It sounds silly, but make sure the CPU 12V is plugged in all the way. When the fan spins but I get no video from Igfx or PCIe then that is usually the cause. if that doesn't work try clearing the CMOS or trying a different RAM stick/slot.

Also had to RMA my AsRock H81 PRO BTC R2.0, was DOA (CPU fan and GPU fans were spinning, no POST). >:(
Second one I got worked really nice tho!

And what if I have been running 1866mhz ram and it required 1600mhz ram for 2 years. ;D
For some reason .. maybe where I bought the ram.. there was a mix up. I know not to put the wrong ram in.
It could have been a mistake by asrock too on the compatible ram.. 2 yrs ago.
O mine burned out from putting one card without power riser.. BTC 81 PRO. Then I got BTC 81 PRO ver2.
And won't show bios.. now I know why.

EDIT: Got it working. :D
I should have stuck with the golden rule. Look for the easiest things first.
My hdmi cable I was using to access the onboard graphics... is bad.

Sorry to revive this, but do these boards need power to both the 24 and 8 pin ATX connectors?
