But the main thing is who is holding the project or bounty manager. I trust the bounty manager, because their reputation is at stake there and I am sure they will be very meticulous in choosing the project.

That's true. Many ICO's become dust in no time and give us  some loss. I don't trade a lot, but we have  to be careful in selecting the ICO's we invest, read carefully what they are for and what will they bring, and ofcourse, their first supporters. This is my opinion.

Lots of persons thought ico is a way to steal money from the people. Then they launched tons of ico. To avoid getting scammed, try to make sure you've taken a look at the white paper and investigated the background of the team members. This way, you find only serious and real projects.

I agree that there are a lot of ICOs lately and it's possible that some of them might not return the investment, but the right ones can pay you for all the rest and much more. It's a high risk - high reward investment and I'm afraid that it's not possible to reduce risks with the same profit possibility and pick just the winners.

I do not know which ICOs are scam and which are not. As you can see, monaco, tenx, tokencard have the same purposes and they do earn a great support from customers. How can it be? I mean, how can 3 same ICO can survive at the same time

The sad story is many people start ICOs just for the sake of stealing money from people who are desperate for easily making money.
So you can see lots and lots of them around the internet but most of them are totally lies and scams.

Before sending any money here or there make enough researches about the project itself, the team behind it and then decide if it's gonna work. Remember that even if you make a topic asking for the most trusted projects, that's not the final answer (it's you)

Too many projects, nobody guaranty success, ICO's are not perfect solutions for funding, and they are inefficient in the long run. I won't mentions those scams, this is risk you are going to take when you involves in this.

Yeah there are now lots of ICO turning to be scam because lots of people is investing of ICO scammer had take this opportunity too. Anyways ICO still a good to inveat just be careful which you put your money make atudy first and think lots of times before making decision.

I think before we use the money to invest, we should to be good to read their whitepaper and see who's the team that working behind it, trusted developer, and the clear roadmap, many successfull ico outside there if we choose carefully

I think its wise to read and research about a certain project before you can even consider investing. But, there are a lot of icos which are ongoing and in my opinion are looking good and are worth investing in. I think you should consider in opus, social, dimcoin, vibrate, they might benefit you for long term investment.

There is no legit ico in one way or another they are all scam. Just download the whitepaper of few so called good ico and compare you will find the same similarities in all the only difference the ico dates will be different.

I think you should be more careful in choosing ICO like their team, manager and goals, because the scam or not of ICO can be seen from these three things. Make sure they really have realistic goals.

I agree Adex is such a good find for ico investors, they have a good platform coming up and it's just a matter of time before they hit it big they went up to as high as $2.50 and I predict that it could go up to $10 in the future.

Apparently, not all ICOs are scam, although a great number of ICOs are. Now, you cannot blame them totally because shit people are always there. They will always be there. It is our responsibility to do the checking before investing. There is whitepaper, website, team, and so on to validate the truth of the project.

I see many ico coming out every day including scam one, many investors has  lose  millions of dollars through scam project and the scammers keep present scam ico into the market and promote them daily. Yes same here, i am an ICO fan so invest most in ICOs but  i did try to invest some that is a scam!,  so now i did learn my mistakes, be prepared always, go to a good coin, get information on what youve invested, and also get some suggestion on others here in the forum.

How about minimize investing on vaporware projects. And more on a working prototypes. But that's not my business. My point is, they can promise everything buzzword after buzzword. Due diligence is one key. It is good to be skeptical. When you have suspicions and degree of shadyness, ask the dev directly. If they can't answer. Then maybe its a good time to move onto the next project.

I certainly agree that the vast majority of ICOs will eventually fail and many of the valuations upon launch certainly are absurd. Never put money in to something new unless you totally believe in it.

I agree with you since most ICO's that I see nowadays looks like they just intend to grab money fast or they only intend to make some money out of their ICO and if they got enough returns from their crowdsale, they will most likely stop it.  The best way to stop yourself from being scammed is to not invest on ICO's unless you want to earn some money and if that is the case, the best way to avoid scams is to research a coin first.

ICO is the shortest way to earn a lot of money, there are a lot of ICO projects going on and you never know that which one will succeed so batter not to invest in any ICO, if you are interested in a project then buy some when they listed on the exchange.

We can't really tell which is which.
Some ICO even started to be good, like you check and read all about them, but when the ico had ended, it just turn to scam. The campaign particpants are waiting for months for their stakes and the investors had lose all their hopes in waiting. The least we can do is to wish the token will be sold out immediately so the ico will end also. In that case there's a chance that the ico will not turn to be scam.

Always do your own research,before sending your money to some strangers you better research the project a lot, if you're not able to evaluate the project technical merit by reading the white paper you better stay away from those kind of investments.

If these scam ICO's continue we should expect these upcoming projects to go through some sort of project screening to valuate if the project can hold up its promises in the short run for the first part of it, but i know there are still genuine projects out there worth investing in...there is still hope.

The best we can do for ourselves is to continue to expose all of the scam project that is confirmed. Once we all do that then automatically all scam projects are blacklisted. Also we need to identify the team behind such project and avoid all  their future projects.

This is absolutely true for avoiding complete scams that disappear with your hard-earned money. But you know what? If you look at those ICOs with so-called reputable people, good background and amazing technical details, many have also become abandoned or have lost a lot of their original value. And some who don't have real names of people, no real product, etc. are doing so well. I tell you this. ICOs are too much gamble at the moment.

unfortunately there are no way to know the ICO whether scam or not, you can search for information about the coin developer, the marketing team and everything, but that still cant guarantee it will avoid you from scam, and up until now I only can guessed which one is the legit one

Yeah there are so many scams. It is really hard to find the good icos. But what i dont understand is even the most careless prepared projects without any reference and unknown team can easily collect thousands of ethereum which means millions of USD. They are able to scam on investors with a simple web site, a whitepaper and good bounty program.

And on a side note, let me tell you something, since the very foundation of our project, as a core team, we set a goal for us: no matter what happens with the ICO, no matter how much money we raise, we want to finish our product. Exactly you won't get scammed if you won't allow people to scam you. What I'm trying to say is if you will do your research and not go for coins that will give you impossible amount of profit in just a little time then you and your money will be safe.

Well partly it is your fault because you did not first know the capabilities of that project you are investing on. You should first read the whole whitepaper of that ico, so that you will get away from that so called "scam." Also try to have someone to signal you to buy that coin.

Its best to use Google and search if the ICO is a scam or not. My friend, you have to be careful. You need to use your entire resort to know if the ICO is legit.

I definitely agreed that most of the ICO project are scam, but I noticed something in the ICO that almost ICO token under by ethereum are mostly became successfull after the whole campaign end. And got their earnings in their to that ICO, Meaning those ico whose under ethereum erc20 are good to participate anyway.

I agree more or less. It is risky but you can get good returns at the end. Actually we should ask what does investor want. A valuable digital coin or a good project. Because even some scam project had valuable coins and investors got very good returns. On the other hand there are some projects with a very good team and good ideas but the digital assets they distributed are not valuable at all.

I really have no idea on which ICO is best to invest to, but I think you should consider the bounty manager, the team, and developers who are in the project. Most likely those who already have established their name would less likely SCAM people because their name is on the plate. Just check thoroughly before investing.

Scams cant really be avoided and this is really happening on ICO field. If theres a good potential ICO then expect there would be a trash or scam. This is why we should really be keen on selecting a good project and i do really say its the hardest thing as an investor on hunting a good one.

I feel you. Its easy to get lost in the promise of ICOs. You have to be really detail oriented and read the ICO white paper, background check the founders, etc. One good rule to always ask yourself is "will this coin be useful/adopted by many?"

ICOs are the new ponzi schemes (not really ponzi, but more of the in-thing in the scammer circle). I do hope people get a lot more educated in terms of what ICOs are, what they do, and how to detect legit ones from the scams. To be honest, there are really a lot of tell tale signs that would give hints of whether it is a scam or not.

I dont think people care if they are ponzi or not. Actually all crypto world and blockchain system itself is overrated and so open to any ponzi attempt.
All people care is earning money and exit. They dont care if the project is scam or not. They care only if they will be able to make profit buying their digital asset or not.

Its hard to trust ICO now because many of them is scam so choose wisely and the trusted one so there is no more regret

That's why we shouldn't intend to hold any ICO coins nowadays since there are the one who mostly get died when they will be added on exchange for long time around and we should be more wiser upon trading this and be more carefull since there's no exact time that their pump in dump well be happen so better we should stick around and monitor whenever we have some shitcoins holded to our wallets.

Ill only invest in ICO when they have a working product to offer, presale, crowdsale  no thank you, i've seen to many tears of late where ICO's fell victim to wallet hacks. I have a couple of coins in STRATIS and WAVES but never got involved with any pre or token sales.

Well, Scam in this world is everywhere so its your choice if you want to be scam or not. Maybe before getting into something serious or involving your money you did many research before hand or ask anyone for feedback of this kind of alt coins is worthy to be invested to, But if you are a risk taker go for what you believe & hoping for good outcome.

There are many scam Ico and there are also good Ico to invest. Before investing let us do some research what iCO are worth to invest. So we dont have regret later on and we can earn profit. Thus, get some information about their project if it is good invest.

anything can happen. Scam or not is not something that happens because of one factor. It happens because of many factors. But that is a risk that must be accepted. If Scam then loss. But if successful then the profit in can be quite high.  ;D

As long as you guys continue to feed into the rumors and follow people that cannot be trusted there are going to be scams and they're going to be profitable for the people that are running them. It's time that you shift your trust to a group that can actually be trusted. The same thing has been happening here for months months and even years. The trust has been placed in the wrong places and placed there for the wrong reasons.

It is very difficult to determine which ico is going to succeed and which is not, but there are some things to see, at least ico projects that do a scam can be avoided, first look at the project team and team manager, if clear and they are experienced people in previous projects , Then it can be trusted, secondly, look at the idea of the project is it realistic, the third whether its allocation of funds makes sense

Yes, not all ICOs will run smoothly and successfully, you really need to be able to choose a good ICO, note some important aspects that may have a major impact on ICO's success such as the Team that handles ICO and all kinds of allocations they make.

Everything is a scam until it works just do your research and pick your investments wisely.
Ask your self these questions

1. Is this ICO realistic and legal?
2. Is the dev team transparent and upfront?
3. Does this ICO have a road map and goals?
4. Are they reasonably available for questioning and active on there media platforms

If you cant answer all these with a yes its best to stay away from it.

Everyone's investment choices are relative, and I have a different attitude to it, I happen to not follow the deepnion and choose to invest in other coins.

Give me some proof of ico scam, as I know some failed ico sales always refund all investor funds, almost no one really scams this year. There have been cases such as phishing sites via email from slackbot lately and some web hit by ddos, but back to our understanding to be more vigilant in terms of investment.

90% of everything in this world is a scam, not just in crypto, in the world, everything. Almost everything is some kind of racket, scam or ponzi with the goal to get you to willingly part with your money and not receive anything in return. And as long as there are people who fall for the scams, there will always be scammers.

Its amazing the amount of ICO's that are being launched everyday or every week....some of the ideas and whitepapers being presented are simply hairbrained

The days of icos making 5 to 10 times your investment on the first day it hits the exchanges are very rare these days.  There's just way too many projects now and a lot are very similar to each other. 

I already made over 10x from some icos. But the icos was having a purpose to be a place to flip our money. But some people just have a role to be the sales and try to sold their coin with the more price in the exchange sites. That was i already known.

Well I dont think so it all depends on what the whole project is all about if it is sustainable or not in a long run. In my opinion this short term thinking of making gains fast is slowly correcting itself and probably focus on sustainability.

Important to know from ICO is what is the investor value proposition and that has to be realistic along with the product or idea. That's how things work also in IPO transparency of team, idea etc is the key.

Also check escrow for secure funds / money.
In addition many people are irresponsible and say Scam has no proof.

As a result of too many ICO scam, the Chinese have decided to ban ICO as well. And this has trigger waves of panic selling right now, causing the price of every coin to drop fast including bitcoin and eth. Most impacted were the largest ICO tokens, with OmiseGo and Qtum declining from total market values of above $1 billion earlier this week to $781 million and $638 million today. Even USA and I read that South Korea as well releasing a announcement regarding scam ICO. The Chinese believes that that many ICOs are just "wearing a vest of legitimacy," while in essence, they are illegal fundraising. In short it is a scam. Its gonna be a long day for most of us in the crypto and seeing the market going in red, its a bloodbath Monday.

Most of ICO's nowdays are launch to scam people and their money's but with garbage there are some good and trusted ICO's in which investing is may profitable, like cryptogene and notary

But how to know an ICO project is scammer trusted project? Do you know some methods help me know that? It always a problem makes me does not know where is best place for invest my money or join to bounty signature campaign.

You have to look in the most idea of the ICO to see it's chances for success, there is no need to buy just to buy cheaper with the expectation of sooner big pump of the price. Scammers use your greedy against you and promise a lot, but it's only to hook you and take all of your money and spend the remaining life on a private island. I have invested in couple of ICOs this summer, but only cause of I liked the idea and I thought it is going to be popular.

There is no doubt that nowadays there are many scams available in digital world but if you have a good knowledge and if you do proper homework then you will never get trapped in those scams as you need to do a good research before investing in any ICO or other investment sites.

If you wanted the real profit then you have to wait for more then 8 months before getting in a altcoin ICOS because their are lot of ICO which are giving false information and when listed just pump and dump and leave the coin when dumped.

Scams can be can be hidden like crap or can be really good masked. In both cases the scam is a malicious activity. The well hidden scam are the ones making millions from scamming investors and the easily exposed are the ones being on the public shame... As of now, I don't know any good ICO, the only one that draw attention to me is Maecenas with Pantera Capital investing a huge load of money in it. I am not sure about it but I think it may return good money.

Please, do not buy ANY ICO, ICO = scammy distribution model. Buy it only if there is a legit company with real developers, known for their past work, only if they are accountable and with proper authorizations from financial authorities. Otherwise you will be scammed.

Choose the ones that are featured in reliable and famous cyrptocurrency publications. Consider also the ones that are listed on top ICO lists as well as other ICO tracking sites. Before investing it's a must to make a research. Look for reviews and ask for the opinion about certain ICOs you've chosen.

I think not only you lost alot altcoins this year. Many people here like you. I lost enough too. Unfortunately now can find alot scamm projects and need be very carreful.

I also included people who lost a lot because of the ICO and because of the market decline. but with this I have gained valuable experience that we should not be careless at all in choosing ICO or coins. and we also have to always prepare ourselves if the market goes down so we know what to do if it really happens.

It's true, lot of money involve in ICO. There is even a study which i forgot the link wherein they said that investing in ICO is very profitable even if you got scammed 2x but when you participate in a single legitimate ICO you will still recover those loses and gain profit.
