Can bitcoin be the world's currency?

No, most likely it will just become a supreme method for store of value.

I think Ripple, Dogecoin or some of these other altcoins have the potential to be the world's currency, but a world currency will need to be politically backed instead of intrinsically backed like Gold, so who knows which one will win out in the end.  :o

World's currency = Main currency of the world?

I think it's possible. Rumors say that an ocult organization wants to control the world and to make it they want to introduce a global currency, a currency that will be used by all countries and by all people of the world, but I'm sure they don't want a decentralized currency to execute this plan. They have two options: Control Bitcoin by regulating it or creating a new Crypto-Currency.

If it doesn't happen as a New Mundial Order, it can happen if many countries unite among themselves having the same ideas about what to do with Bitcoin. So it could become the World's Currency and at same time be controlled by them as it will be regulated.

Can bitcoin be the world's currency?
In my opinion, Bitcoin will never be a world's currency or even a country currency. For bitcoin is only a digital currency which means it doesn't have appearance. The other reason why it can't be a world's currency is, it is not centralized, it doesn't pass through central banks. In addition to that, bitcoin is not subjected to tax but still government can impose tax to bitcoin if ever they want to.

Right. Dogecoin is going to the be the world's reserve currency. The largest accounts in the world will all be settled with a memecoin. That'll be the day! :P

Can bitcoin be the world's currency?

Right now, a few semi-wealthy people can push the price around easily. It's possible for BTC to be a reserve currency far into the future when it might actually have stable value. But that's far enough off (decades probably) that I won't think on it too much.

Everything in this world is possible dude. And it is a cryptocurrency we are talking about here at this point. There is a man taught me that in cryptocurrency we can find that anything is really possible. He is a member of XEM team. And if I am not mistaken, XEM belongs to top 10 in coinmarket.

I don't think so. Physical money still the best currency. Bitcoin doesn't have physical because it's a digital asset. And i don't think countries will be in favour one currency. It can't be regulated. Aside from that digital assets like bitcoin requires technology in able to use. Example, the internet. Bitcoin needs internet in able to spend it to anything. Imagine without internet. It's a disaster. Bitcoin is good  because of it's profitability. Admit it or not. We only use bitcoin because it's very profitable right now. Traditional currency is preferred by most of people. It's accepted everywhere, doesn't require technology in able to use and easy to use. Just give it. Done.

Nope, it is not possible to become the world's currency because bitcoin does not have an unlimited supply and it has only 21 million supply so it is not enough for the whole world's population and its price or value is not stable so there will be a huge problem in the economy if the income or profit that they are getting is not stable.

It may only be an alternative currency but to be world's currency That is impossible. Bitcoin is set only to be a Digital currency in which we could use as an alt. Of credit card. It will took a lot years and efforts before bitcoin could be legally accepted worldwide. As of the moment there are only selected countries who accept it as a form of currency. Given with that scenario some of the businesses in those countries do not yet accept it.

I don't totally agree with your idea, bitcoin is the best currency and its the father of all coins therefore it has the real potential to be the worlds first digital currency. bitcoin is awesome and there is no debate about it. I prefer using bitcoin than any other coins. you can earn money on bitcoins but not on any other coins, that's why bitcoin is the best.

Can bitcoin be the world's currency?

By world currency I am assuming you mean currencies that can be used by everyone in the world, without translating that currency to that country's native fiat currency.

I don't think Bitcoin will become this though, too many problems such as high transaction fees, but other altcoins might have a chance of this.

Can bitcoin be the world's currency?

It is already available across the world, anyone in any country no matter where they are from can use bitcoin. This is one of bitcoin's most attractive features, which is essentially instantaneous global transactions without a bank.

However i think that you mean worldwide adoption of bitcoin, which in my opinion is completely possible if given a decade or two. People still need to get used to the idea of an economy without a centralized authority, and they need time to adjust.

But in the long term i have no doubt that btc will be used at a wide scale to facilitate transactions.

There is no assurance but there is a very high possibility that Bitcoin can become the world's currency especially now that it is becoming more popular in the world and the different countries are now starting to accept it legalized it. Some well known celebrities are also starting to post and announced to the world about their crypto related investments.

It might not be an official world currency, but if it continues growing the way it is at the moment it might be/ if it's not already an unofficial world currency.

Although it has to be legalized by most countries before it can reached that status.

Can bitcoin be the world's currency?

Taking over fiat? NO! Being used globally? Possible! I see bitcoin as a digital currency that can be used as a store of value, and one day can be easily used as a mode of payment globally but fiat will still definitely remain for each country. Just the way we have dollar as the most used international currency globally but still never stopped each country from making use of its own fiat currencies is the same way we will end up having bitcoin. However, I foresee other crypto currencies being a preferable day to day micro payment means while bitcoin will end up being a store of value like gold unless we start having an easy micro transaction soon.

can be. bitcoin should only make some of the development and breakthroughs that everyone can accept. because currently the bitcoin system is very rigid. I guess if bitcoin can make adjustments to the times and technology, I think that will happen.

At this stage I would say NO to Bitcoin being the Global reserve currency. Bitcoin is still sorting out scaling problems and would not be able to handle large amounts of transactions that would be required by a global reserve currency. If we move towards that scenario, the scaling problems would first have to be solved.

The Lightning Network is the next step towards mainstream adoptions, but I am still not sure if it would be able to handle such a load.

Can bitcoin be the world's currency?
Your question was asked many times and majority of the answers is "NO" Bitcoin is only applicable for sending and receiving money in a more faster, easier and secured way rather than sending fiat money but ahead of this advantages of bitcoin I think It will never become a world currency because of many factors no. 1 is volatility and another is lack of support from the government I think banks will not agree using bitcoins in the future.

Actually the bitcoin is the world's currency right now. Why did i say it or what's the prooft?

1. It is used by different people around the world. (Eventhough some country didn't accept it)
2. The most known currency and the most valuable currency in crypto.
3. It is now used as a mode of payment.
4. Some countries stores accepts bitcoin.
5. The value of it is increasing and increasing.

By just look at this features of bitcoin you can say that it's now a world's currency.

No. Not yet.
There may have been some people who are saying yes. I say they are too optimistic but we have to be true and see reality.
This world right now is not yet organized to be set into online currency that will be circulating. That needs world peace too which cannot be done. It is impossible. It can be a currency for all but just online which is different from being a global currency.

It is already a currency that can be used worldwide, so yes. But if you mean that it will be the main currency everywhere, I do not think so. Fiat will still remain however strong gets. And it is healthier to have other currencies other than bitcoin.

I don't think there has to be one single currency. Currencies can complement each other quite well. So perhaps we'll see that every country still has his/her own fiat, but crypto's are supported, but not regulated (that much) as well.

In my opinion bitcoin cant never be a world currency it will remain as digital currency or just a storage of hidden treasure. Countries accepting bitcoin is just a mode or method of payment in different market or industry but being a currency government will impose a genius regulation about it. But in our world everything is possible so we cant tell what happen next. Everything i wrote is my own opinion and understanding i dont want to hurt or disrepect anyone in this forum...

I have said this and I am saying again. Money is an expression of the work. When there is no work, there is no money, or the value of the money is little.

Money was invented as an easier way for barter, that existed 2000-5000 years ago. Instead of giving an object and receiving other object, people were receiving money for that given object.

Bitcoin was invented primarly to give some money and receive bitcoin instead, not to give an object and receive bitcoin. In this acception bitcoin is not real money, it is something that has been invented instead of money. Time will tell if bitcoin will become the future world currency or not, I would say that this will not happen in the next 10-20 years.

Can bitcoin be the world's currency?

I will just say perhaps. I don't know actually. With the high volatility of bitcoin right now, I am afraid it will just be unstable to be used as a world's currency. Some are not spending a single satoshi even because of the prospect of BTC's price to shoot higher soon.

For bitcoin to be the world's currency, i think this is impossible, bitcoin is just a non tangible digital currency like its real currency which more stable value than bitcoin whose value is so fluctuating / changing over time and whose numbers are still limited. In my opinion, bitcoin will remain as a new breakthrough or just another side from the real money only, to make money in a more modern way that must use internet connection.

It depends on what you mean by "world currency".
Well, if you mean is that it will be used world wild, so the answer is yes, it's really possible since Bitcoin now is widely known and can be used to purchase anything. So, you can say BTC is the world currency.
In the other hand, if you mean that Bitcoin will be recognized by governments, I think that is really hard since governments will never approve to deal with something they can't monitor and control.
I think we can say that Bitcoin is the "un-official world currency".

In which world you are living , Because here in this world most of the people who are making worldwide payments are using bitcoin and saving much amount of the money ( with the savings of transaction fee ) .
So you can understand well people are using bitcoin in much amount and no chance for any other coin to get success like bitcoin because bitcoin has trust with the people more than what another coins or options have .
So don't get in doubt whether it will get success or not and use it in every field and for every purpose for which you can take advantage and ease with cryptocurrency world .
Here you can see the example of the japan where many big big services are using bitcoin payment like in hotel , airways airlines officially .

It's quite impossible  but tomorrow is way unpredictable. Since the whole world is coping up the the advancement of technology, if there's nothing wrong that will happen such as things that will make the reputation of digital currency or perhaps bitcoin, it will be possible in the future. But still, I won't say that other regular currencies will disappear in am instant, maybe it is more on dominance such that in the future, Bitcoin has potential to be a more dominant currency than fiat.

Anything is possible, but we still have a LONG ways to go if Bitcoin is to become used by everyone. Still today 99% or more of people do not know what it is.

It's possible if technological advancements were made and the countries adopted it. The problems it has now may be solved in the near future and as of now, a lot of countries are starting to accept Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies.

It would be cool though if it were. It would provide convenience for the travellers, because they won't go through the hassle of having to exchange their fiat money to the local currency of the country which they'll visit and lose a lot of money through the taxes. Also, Bitcoin would allow easy and fast transactions along with the convenience of not having to carry it around. As of now, Bitcoin may look far from becoming the world's currency but it may be possible given the circumstances at hand.

Can bitcoin be the world's currency?

I think it’s impossible because there are countries that are against it. Its price is not stable so it cannot be a worlds currency because it can cause a problem at the future. It can be a great help to many and being used all over the world, in payment transaction for buying goods and services but it will not enough reason to make it as a worlds currency. And also many people still don’t know it or interested on it like the elderly, children, or other people that don’t have an internet connection. And also I think the government will oppose to it because it is decentralized so they can’t add tax on it.

If you mean that, i don't think so. Although bitcoin is already popular and many people use it, it'll be too difficult for bitcoin to become the main currency.
Moreover, bitcoin is more like anonymous and can't be ruled or controlled, so it'll be hard for the goverment to do regulations with bitcoin.

Many of us use to think like that before and specially when there was no ban in China regarding the ICO’s. Now when Chinese government is imposing a ban over the ICO’s which for sure is leading to gateway to ban bitcoin in China shows how vulnerable bitcoin is.

There are lots of intelligent minds working with the agencies in different countries of the world who may have find it how to trace the bitcoin movement. The US agency IRS have already claimed that they can trace 50% of the bitcoin easily.

Can bitcoin be the world's currency?

I highly doubt it, does not mean I do not believe it. this is because bitcoin is the virtual currency, and serves as a tool of the digital world.
and if bitcion becomes the original currency. I think it is possible that bitcoin could become the world's currency.

I don't feel so. 40 years after world doesn't require a currency which take 10-infinite time in getting transaction confirmed. Future high-tech, fast world requires a currency which is free from miners' influence and arbitrary and is completely decentralized.

On the internet it will be. But with the recent bans in different countries this is now going to be impossible.
I thought before nothing can stop bitcoin but now they have find a way to do it.
But I have still one question in my mind. If they ban the bitcoin in one country, what agency of the government is tracing the bitcoin movement inside or outside their country. Can they really know that?
Many of us use to think like that before and specially when there was no ban in China regarding the ICO’s. Now when Chinese government is imposing a ban over the ICO’s which for sure is leading to gateway to ban bitcoin in China shows how vulnerable bitcoin is.

There are lots of intelligent minds working with the agencies in different countries of the world who may have find it how to trace the bitcoin movement. The US agency IRS have already claimed that they can trace 50% of the bitcoin easily.
Yeah that was right. It is pretty scary and at the same time its amazing though on how they are able to track down bitcoin movements and even those owners. Sometimes I do even think about your assets are no longer safe in bitcoin and there is a possibility that it will lead to death of bitcoin. I can even think that maybe someday bitcoin will be imposed with taxes by the government, they really wanted to have an access by any means for them also to make money, a bit scary but I am just fantasizing it though.

It is already a world currency. But if you are saying that bitcoin becomes the dominant medium of international exchange, then that is less likely to happen. Governments of various countries won't accept a decentralized medium of financial system ever. If that ever be a cryptocurrency then that currency would definitely be backed by some government.

Everything in this world is possible dude. And it is a cryptocurrency we are talking about here at this point. There is a man taught me that in cryptocurrency we can find that anything is really possible. He is a member of XEM team. And if I am not mistaken, XEM belongs to top 10 in coinmarket.
We all know that it is possibile and I hope it would happen bitcoin. I believe that bitcoin will become our best currency and it will accepted in all kind of transaction. In addiiton to that, I belive to the great potential of bitcoin and I think it will become our world currency.

No it cannot ever replay centralized currencies. That would totally cause a lot of chaos for sure. If a decentralized currency like bitcoins become the main currency of a country then it would be in utter disarray because the government cannot control inflation and other factors that are being done to stabilize an economy. Bitcoin cannot be controlled because the market is the one dictating price. There is now way the government change this and will likely collapse a whole economy and send it to a depression for sure if it happens.

If you want to buy coffee at Starbucks or burger at McDonalds or buying a magazine at a 7-Eleven.
That probably won't happen soon, if ever, not without serious upgrades like LN in place first.
We need to face it - Bitcoin's user experience is terrible and Bitcoin won't be able to confront private payment systems.
Because, frankly speaking public blockchains are slower than private payment systems - which may change in the future tho.

I think it is impossible if bitcoin becomes money in the world, because it differs considerably from USD which already has unlimited stock in the world while bitcoin has 21 million stock distribution in this world but it isn’t enough for this world and it also has unstable selling price unlike USD which already has a stable price around the world
This is exactly the right thing, the main difference between the bitcoin and the UDS in term of number shared in the world. The number of bitcoin is very limited as we know that there are trillion of USD circulation in the world while the USD production is still continue.

The bitcoin is too tiny to be used in the world population if 10% of the world population start using bitcoin as a currency its price will reach high but as a currency it will fail.

No, most likely it will just become a supreme method for store of value.

I think Ripple, Dogecoin or some of these other altcoins have the potential to be the world's currency, but a world currency will need to be politically backed instead of intrinsically backed like Gold, so who knows which one will win out in the end.  :o
yea other altcoin give you good profit. I you talk about world currency first you tell bitcoin. bitcoin is all of above. when you need money you can't sell other coin in local market. today bitcoin is most popular in world currency.

Bitcoin is not only single coin that is working in international market. There are many others but bitcoin is above all.
And this highness of bitcoin is just due to the yielding percentage of profit, nothing else make a huge difference like this. Altcoins are there but not so much efficient so yeah bitcoin is there for you on first priority.

On the other hand, there are people who adopt other coins too for long term holding also. We cannot be sure all the coins will be having bright future but compared to any other coins, bitcoin must be the only one cryptocurrency which is having highly speculated bright future.

You get point! Both phrases are clearly not thesame. The phrase '' World's Currency" could Sometimes be mistaken for some sort of imposed global Currency, which it's not. Could simply mean "Major World's Currency'

It cannot first of all because the amount of bitcoin is finite and you'll need a infinite amout of fiat to create wealth, salaries and economic stability in a country. Secondly bitcoin draws its value from real world money and without it bitcoin would be useless.
So even tho it would be beneficial for the world to get 1 currency and unite our moneytery system to solve world poverty, Bitcoin cant be that union.

I don't think so, Because currently there are 123 democratic out of 192 and all the leaders accepting one currency can't be established because everyone vary in their point of view and having a currency at word level means power in the hands of few people which can later on exploit the people according to their wish. So bitcoin or any other currency cannot be at world level because it is nearly impossible for every country leader to have a same point of view and to agree with each other.

With so many population not even 1/4th knows about the bitcoin in any way so I'm wondering how will they react in its publication as worlds cyrrency. Then there is no physical form of it and no working model to do the transaction directly with zero time. Plus very important point regarding bitcoin, is it sufficient enough in the amount to feed the whole world? May be no. It's not Gibbs happen guys.

many people believe that bitcoin will become our world's currency and I believe it will happen in the future. In addition, it can happen because it is now widely accepted in some countries and they also use it as money they use in different types of transactions.

Ya lot of chance are there for bitcoin to became the world currency. But it takes some more time. At first it will replace the dollar and then the entire currency system and at last the bank system. Since China start to reduce the bitcoin transaction and the price not reduce Less than 3000$.So it will again reaches the old value.

I dont think that bitcoin be the worlds currency because as we can observe nowadays theres a lot of country who still not accepted bitcoin so anyone can say that this will be the world currency. We can possibly say that bitcoin will be the worlds currency if and only if bitcoin is accepted around the world.

Each country may issue their own cryptocurrency in place of bitcoin and fiat currency. However, it needs take a long time for the government to make regulation about issuing cryptocurrency.

So it could become the World's Currency and at same time be controlled by them as it will be regulated.
.

Sincerely I'm suspecting cryptocurrency is the worldwide currency, but since we have diverse coin now I can't say it will be bitcoin precisely. but it is definitely possible.

You can never say never but i'd highly doubt it will become the worlds currency! Certainly I think it will continue to grow in technology, use and awareness but I can't see it being the world's currency personally.
May be you are right that bitcoin may not be the crypto digital currency use be all the people of the world. But the experts say that it will be because most of the pople and now some governments also have accepted and regularized bitcoin as their legal currency.

Let’s see what happens in the future. Some people say it will fall and some are saying that it dominate all the currencies digital or paper.

We need to adjust if that's happen, people who don’t know bitcoin at all will have a difficulty to use it. I think bitcoin is just good how bitcoin works as of today.

For me , there is possibility that this will happen, why not?. But government itself will reject this maybe, because of tax. Bitcoin can be world currency maybe after 10-20 years from now. We cannot predict it, since it is decentralized. But for now, we need to keep our bitcoins , earn and hold it for the future.
This may be possible in upcoming five year that it can be accepted as global currency this will take time and all this is depending upon the reaction of people of all regions toward bitcoin f they will accept this will happen soon and nobody will create hurdle in its way and that will be more wonderful. The time when it will be global currency everyone will praise it.

Nowadays bitcoin has become popular and use by many but in terms to be use as worlds currency it wont happen for now. not possible i think but world's accepted currency might happen in sometime since bitcoin is getting famous and accepted by most individual and businesses now. In order to to make bitcoin becomes world currency it should be regulated by some international body which is created by international countries which might not happen since everyone has different views regarding digital currency, and if that happen, bitcoin's price might become stable which is not good for investors since bitcoin itself is their asset generating income.

Not only that but also a couple of countries already allowed Bitcoin as a legal currency, so that it can be predicted that more countries will accept it as a legal currency. so when it will become a legal currency in many countries then it will become also a global currency. i think within 2 or 3 years, Bitcoin will become a global currency.

There is a possibility that bitcoin can be worlds currency. But of course it would take years before bitcoin can be introduce and to be accepted by the people around the globe. I don't think it will be possible . Making bitcoin world's currency is a very risky step and no government will agree to take this step . Bitcoin is highly volatile , its value decreases and increases which can really effect a country's economy . Moreover bitcoins are not centralized so there will be no limitations on its uses . Bitcoins also does not supports any taxation which is the main reason that will not allow it to become a world's currency . The anonymous identification property of bitcoins will lead to growth in many crimes . So it is not possible.

Very unlikely, as it would cause more poverty, and strife between countries as the cost of living is different from one another, they will demand to have their own currency that is much easier to control. Daily commodities' price would vary everyday and would probably create trouble along with the consumers/users versus the investors.

It is not possible to become a world currency of Bitcoin.
Because there is no guarantee of Bitcoin.
Nobody knows who discovered it.
After 2140, 21 million Bitcoins will not be produced and no new bits will be made.

Can bitcoin be the world's currency?

It is quite possible that bitcoins become the world currency and replace us dollar in the market. Right now, it reigns the crypto currencies so take more years and more people will use bitcoins in their transactions. Once it solved its issue in its value volatility, it can have its position in the world market as both an asset and money.

It is advisable in the future since our technology will inevitable advance towards the digitalized revolution and payments. The only hindrance to this development however, are the countries who are still on the developing stage due to its lacking technological aspects. Those countries are still adapting to the change and are still fixing their respective problems, which technology might not be their main priority. If we make bitcoin the world currency today, those countries wouldn't able to adapt to they system since most of the world's population are still on the poverty level. This would result into chaos in the economy and will further weaken their current state.

Bitcoin is what it is and govt cannot stop or change it - provided we constantly guard Bitcoin security.

Central banks are, however, developing their own private blockchains and they will soon be issuing cryptocurrency fiat to replace anonymous cash and as a means of doing surveillance.

They will sell it to the public as being "based on the amazing blockchain technology". But without open source code, without open participation (mining by anyone), the cenbank blockchain won't be decentralized and tamper-proof - it will be a sham and a coercion, as you describe.

Can bitcoin be the world's currency?

I somehow believe that bitcoins will rule the world but I guess it won't torally be used worldwide since not all countries have access to good internet. Many third world countries suffer from these incoherent internet connection. Plus, fiat money is as powerful as bitcoins. Bitcoin will be the world's digital currency but I think not as a daily money.

bitcoin will rule the online world maybe but i think not on a real world because bitcoin is purely digital and will only work mostly in an online environment and without internet connection i dont think we can use it to buy stuff's offline not unless they can invent an offline version of the blockchain or if someone can invent a physical coin and embed the private keys and wallet address on it. but overall fiat money is still powerful and will never be replace by something digital.

It is possible. I see it now it is slowly becoming the world's currency. You know things nowadays are becoming international. People are becoming international like your mother is asian and your father is european and you become asian only because you are born in asia but technically you are both european and asian. The world is getting smaller and I wouldnt be surprised if the world will have a world wide currency. As of now the Us Dollars is kind of the world's currency but it is not ideal because the Americans are using it to control other countries or to impose their will on the countries that are weak agaisnt the dollars.

That's quite cool when bitcoin can be global currency. but, i don't think that is possible in some region that have lack of knowledge of this technology development. and i don't think all people are ready to accept bitcoin as global currency too. #CMIIW

I think that it is possible, and I believe that it will happen one day. Bitcoin was made with idea of becoming world currency one day, and its properties have what it takes. Few changes over the time has made Bitcoin even better. Transactions are faster and cheaper, more and more people start using Bitcoins for paying and not just holding. A lot of people support Bitcoin and using it for trading. I think that Bitcoin has made huge change to how people see currency, so it is possible that one day Bitcoin becomes world currency.

bitcoin is already a world's currency that have used in whole the world and people around the world recognize bitcoin. but the main problem is that not all of countries recognize bitcoin or accept bitcoin as legal so bitcoin can not be used in some countries.

if you hope that bitcoin will be the one and only currency in the world, i will convince you that it is very hard to reach, since all countries have their own regulation and their currency reflect how strong they are (in economical aspect).

Even bitcoin helps many individual to earn money and it proves the government, still the government need to create local currencies. Bitcoin has nothing to do with the government because bitcoin users do not pay taxes for the reason that they earn from it. Bitcoin cannot be a real currency which can be use for everyday payment because of the price volatility.

It won't happen.  One of the biggest obstacle would be Bitcoin being decentralized.  If you check the current news about countries and Bitcoin, most country that recognized Bitcoin as currency or mode of payment already run into trouble of regulating it.  They (government) need to centralized the authority or else things will get out of the governments hand and that is what the government does not want to happen.  I believe the technology will be adopted but bitcoin will always be use as an alternative.

Yes it could be in the virtual community but no its can't be according to the regulatory authorities. It doesn't carry that much potential, I mean the potential in terms of fulfilling the needs of whole national economic system. This is very huge and as we know there is no limit on which government keeps printing the dollar bill! What about the bitcoin which is limited and off which 6% is in the possession of the Satoshi Sir! I mean do you really think that it would be currency of the world before these complications can be solved? We will see that soon as it approached the near future.  :)

Yes I also think that there should be more than one currency, the reason is that if someone dominates it and change the price of it according to his own will, then what the other people of the world will do? That’s why you are right that there should be more than one currency in the world. It is not about disrespecting anyone in this forum we are just giving our suggestions and the rest leave on the people to decide.

I agree, for me it is impossible to happen becauae of the fact that bitcoin was not accepted by the government as a real money. Bitcoin was just a virtual currency which we can used online. Also because not everyone know what bitcoin is so Government wont let it to be the worlds currency. There are many thing that need to be consider before it become as a real currency and worlds currency. Not everybody wants bitcoin and even they knew it they still wont used it because they think that it is scam and its also one reason about that.

Bitcoin is already a global currency which in turn is driving many other global crypto currencies.

Will Bitcoin be the global currency? Who knows.

We just need to know that it is what it is right now; a highly secure global P2P network of value and commerce, outside the control of central government and central banking. That is the true existing value, no question about it!

the only way for government to control bitcoin is to turn off the electricity/internet. If that happens then we have much bigger problems than bitcoin.

until then bitcoin will very likely continue show the way into a new world of personal finance and commerce.

This can happen, but it takes a long time, because to realize all it takes the process and government involvement, currently Bitcoin is still a debate in the governments of countries that are worried about the existence of Bitcoin.

This is the main thing why bitcoin cant really be considered to be a main currency knowing that it is a decentralized stuff which it cant really be considered to be adopted and become legal. It would really just remain as an alternative same as you said. It may progress but it would really just  remain on its place with its own purpose. For now this thing it isn't possible at all.

This is the inherent beauty of bitcoin; it is outside the control of the tyranny of central banking and government.

Bitcoin is already a global P2P currency. The true value of the Bitcoin is only just beginning to be understood: "freedom from tyranny" of the war mongering governments and central banking systems which seek to enslave the populations of the world.

The jig is up. We are witnessing the next evolution of the internet, which is bigger than the internet itself!

It's not up to them. Bitcoin is peer to peer which means the people who use currency are the ones making the decisions. If enough people use it then it could become a viable alternative to fiat.

Impossible.
In order that something to become worlds currency it has to be a new technology and a great thing with many advantages. Bitcoin is not even close to that. Money are so easy to spend, you can spend it absolutely anywhere and there is no fee for using money. I think money its just something you cannot replace because they are used since year 500 and there are so many in the whole world.

For me it is a NO because bitcoin has only a 21 million supply and it will not be enough to use by all the people around the world. Unlike fiat money that you can produce anytime you like, if bitcoin reached the 21M its the limit. Another problem is the slow transaction. Some transactions if not all are too slow sometimes it takes many hour or days.

I think it would be very hard for Bitcoin to become the world's currency if it was not corrected. The adjustment here is the decentralization, if you keep the essence of it, almost no one will be able to control or manage it. Since then the social evils are increasing, the economy is in serious crisis. So it may be a revolution to re-adjust Bitcoin or create a new digital signature that replaces it completely.

I believe so. Actually if you haven't noticed yet, btc can be considered a world's currency already. Wherever you are in the world it can be accepted by people who knows it and is also investing/trading in it. If you have bitcoins there's no need to worry wherever you go especially in a place that it is widely accepted. You don't have to go to a money exchange if you are in a different country that only accepts their own currency. It's only a matter of time for it to be officially considered as world's currency. But don't be confused here. My statements are solely for btc acceptance globally and not to replace any currency because that will really take too long to happen.

It can be possible only when all countries legalize it and provide a stable connection of internet to the far flung areas of their land, educate people about bitcoin and let their institutions and restaurants and shops to accept in bitcoin, though bitcoin is easy to be transferred gives quick and high results but internet provision is necessary for all this.

Nope, adopting a super currency like bitcoin while replacing anything else wouldn't work as different countries have it's own currency that represents their value and identity as well. Replacing them would bring harm - small countries would die. It's better to treat BTC like 'Internet money' like how Japan announced them as, if you are thinking bitcoin would worth millions each that would be naive and it wouldn't reach that status as long people are treating them as investment rather than fiats. It's still far for bitcoin to be accepted for trade throughout the world as the main economies are still tied closely with fiat pairs.

Can bitcoin be the world's currency?

:) Hi wawan99, in my point of view, there is a little chance of a possibility that bitcoin could be the world currency due to different countries laws and regulation regarding the cryptocurrency. If I'm not mistaken, seven countries prohibit our popular bitcoin. But even lifted; the government is still hesitant to promote or support the use of bitcoin which will ultimately block its way to be the world currency. However, given the fact that in ancient times people use gold as currency and as we can see today people use fiat money that makes us definitely to think that bitcoin could do the same.  ;)

A world currency need to have a great stability and bitcoin cannot give that. It is decentralized and can also be used for illegal purposes. Bitcoin today is just a form of investment, a material for trading, an asset. It is hard to change the way many people see bitcoin because of its characteristics especially the high price increase rate, the volatility, which is a characteristic of a coin that is suitable for profitable purposes, trading and investments.

I dont see that happening at all especially since some countries have outright banned bitcoin.

bitcoin is a very unique and interesting hold of value, but because of its versatility other countries will see it as competing with their own currency and like mentioned above have banned it.

I can see the value of bitcoin going up and peaking around when the last bitcoins are mined. What happens to its value at that time depends on its popularity compared to other alt coins and the alt coin market altogether

I don't think bitcoin can become the world's currency .
Bitcoin is not of physical reality that is why many people will probably not accept and understand it. It also depends on how many governments actually accept bitcoin and consider it legal and most of them nowadays are considering to ban it . So it is pretty difficult that bitcoin will become world's currency . Bitcoin is not unlimited , which also acts as a barrier to attain  this goal.

Coming back after long time is very good in this forum. Well, no bitcoin can’t be worlds currency because it has got big disadvantage of decentralisation. Yes, it is disadvantage when we speak about it in the form of worlds currency because this nature fluctuates its value a lot making it very very volatile currency.

In any nation, such currency can not do very well to make the stability of economy within the circulation. There could be instant crash in the bitcoin price and this can lead to instant economic crisis too. This is why no government will adopt it as national currency in fist place and this is why it may not get accepted in the whole world as world’s currency status.

I can hardly imagine Bitcoin becoming a world currency. As a matter of fact, until now Bitcoin is still struggling to become essentially a currency. It is like the people are 50% treating Bitcoin as a currency and the other 50% is treating Bitcoin as an asset. And even with this equation, the 50% that treats Bitcoin as a currency is using Bitcoin very seldom and to a selected shopping outlet only. I think the very bullish growth of Bitcoin's value is the main reason why people are holding instead of spending Bitcoins.

I agree on your opinion that bitcoin will never be a world's currency or even a country's currency because bitcoin is not centralized and there's only a plenty of people that know's bitcoin throughout the world. But on my opinion that if all of the people in one country know's about bitcoin I think its possible but I also think that its impossible if all the people of that country knows about bitcoin.

Yes it would be possible if it will be supported by central banks and the government. As soon it will take time to be supported by government and continuously increase on its price and stability. It is not possible for bitcoin to overcome other currencies.

No its not, Fiat cannot be changed by a digital currency because not everyone has the capability to earn bitcoins like low class level families. It will be a huge chaos when they change the world's currency to digital because not everyone will really agree in this kind of system.

Can bitcoin be the world's currency?

No i don't thing it can become/possible to be the world's only currency. First of all not everyone aware about the bitcoin especially crypto currencies. Second if you open the list you'll find some countries who is not accepting the bitcoin most of them banned the use of btc like china and south Korea. Third there's not control and its untraceable and in last bitcoin is involve with illegal and criminal activities so its hard to become world's currency. Even though there are lot of benefit of bitcoins but the factors mentioned above are real hurdles for bitcoin.

If we are talking technically then Bitcoin is already a world's currency. Anyone from any corner of the world can send and receive Bitcoin using his wallet if he is having basic necessities such as an internet-enabled smartphone/pc. There are no legal issues yet in most of the countries. However, practically it will take more time (probably 5 to 10 years) for Bitcoin to be a mainstream thing and surpass the volume of other payment processors. It is still in the development phase and hitting new records every day so I don't think that it will take more than a decade to conquer the international fund transfer industry.

in my perspective, there is somewhat shot of a probability that bitcoin could be the world cash because of various nations laws and direction with respect to the digital currency. In case I'm not mixed up, seven nations restrict our famous bitcoin. Be that as it may, even lifted; the legislature is as yet reluctant to advance or bolster the utilization of bitcoin which will at last piece its approach to be the world cash. Be that as it may, given the way that in old circumstances individuals utilize gold as cash and as should be obvious today individuals utilize fiat cash that makes us unquestionably to feel that bitcoin could do likewise

The countries will not accept bitcoin because bitcoin is not that centralized or can be controlled by their will so it will be hard or difficult for bitcoin to get accepted and only countries that are risk takers will accept bitcoin as a currency. Bitcoin is maybe one of the best option to have right now but it is very impossible for the countries to just accept it without doing a lot of investigation.

As we all know from the moment we invested on bitcoin it make sense that we bought something worth it like gold and its price also is volatile depending on the crypto market. And the good thing is that the value will be able to raise higher as more people and investors come to invest and we do not want this happenings to be compromised by stabilizing it and making it as a world's digital currency. I dont think so. AT present the worlds population is 7.6B, the supply of bitcoin which is 21M will not be enough for the people. Besides i dont think that governments around the world would allow a decentralized currency would take over their local currencies.

Can bitcoin be the world's currency?
maybe, but we still have a LONG ways to go if Bitcoin is to become used by everyone. Still today 99% or more of people do not know what it is.

Can bitcoin be the world's currency?
I think this is unlikely, Bitcoin has a limited supply so it would be too little to use as a common currency. If this happens, I'm sure it will not be Bitcoin. Multiple nations will create their own Crypto.

I see a blurry picture. Seeing today's use of cryptocurrencies for trading, it is hard to believe that it would be used as a world currency for day to day activities like the way we use our fiat currency.

It is possible that bitcoin qualifies as currency and governments in all countries accept bitcoin and approve bitcoin as the world's currency. but I think it's still very far away.

There are more predictions about that, it talks about the future. This concerns bitcoin as the world currency wasn't new. There were many predictions about this but still it didn't yet happened. The future that bitcoin as the world currency is possible for me. I view that it is not actually referring to bitcoin alone but it is with altcoins. We all know that without bitcoin, altcoins won't exist. Without altcoins, bitcoin value is nothing but just a garbage.
