Title: [ANN][POOL] RoyalMiningCo Pool
Post by: roy7 on May 23, 2013, 11:42:03 PM
Edit: All pools/etc are closed. Was a fun hobby for a long time but got too expensive. :)

Edit: I now provide some public p2pool nodes as well. I've tried to optimize them as well as I can, and I'm also actively trying to make improvements to my interface and I've submitted a few pull requests to various p2pool repos. Any suggestions/requests on what info you'd like to see on the interfaces is appreciated.

Hello everyone. Been working on a pool, with TRC as the first coin available in it.

www.royalminingco.com

Set username to the address you want payments sent to. Password can be anything for now.
Add _X as a suffix to the username to set your difficulty between 1 and 65536. Default difficulty is 2.

For example, if you have a large GPU farm or an ASIC please go with something like:

cgminer -o stratum+tcp://trc.royalminingco.com:3333/ -u YourHashHere_32 -p x

Some features are:
  • Stratum Only
  • Transaction fees paid to miners
  • DGM payment method (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=39497.0), 2% fee
  • No account needed, web site usage optional
  • User controlled difficulty
  • All payments automatic
  • Payouts in discovered block coinbase: the pool never holds your coins

I have a lot of things I'd like to add to the pool moving forward, all suggestions are welcome. The front end is custom from scratch, so I can add features or adjust things however users like. Shares are not reported as "accept" unless they are successfully queued for the score database. If you see a share accepted, it will count towards your score. I need to pretty things up more, but the basic information needed is there.

DGM settings are f=0, c=.02, o=.98. This means the pool's fee is 2%. The pool absorbs some of the variance for you by setting c (variable fee) to 2% instead of f (fixed fee) to 2%. In shorter rounds the pool will make more than 2% and in longer rounds it will make less than 2% (down to almost nothing). Over a long period of time, the total will average to 2%. This way your income will very a bit less based on the length of a round. If this becomes too confusing or people are concerned the pool is not acting honestly in regards to the math, I could change it to a fixed fee. The variable fee is for the miner's benefit, not mine. Minimum payment is .0001. Anything below that will just be kept by the pool.

"Slightly stale" shares are given full credit.

DO NOT SET PAYMENT ADDRESS TO AN EXCHANGE ACCOUNT.
MOST EXCHANGES WILL NOT SEE YOUR DEPOSITS FROM OUR POOL.
DON'T TRY IT.

Happy mining.

Heh, someone asked me about that when I was first testing. RoyalCoin doesn't interest me at the moment though. I just went with RoyalMining as a play off my name and since the domain name was available.

I do eventually want to have pools for FRC, PPC, and maybe LTC. Want to "finish" my front end first though and TRC has been a great coin to develop with, since it has features like difficulty changing every block.

I been using the pool for a while now and it seams well put together. Once front end is complete I think it will be a nice change from other pools that hold your coins until you want them. I like to have them automatically sent to my wallet. I will put a small bountie out on the pool the next 2 block finders will receive a 2 trc bonus. Excludes me and the pool owner. I'm doing this to try and stabilize the pool a bit.

Hey cool Rob, thank you! So for the record my personal GPU mining on the pool is user 17qzWyfQg8qAfYCdVCNsjKmPefRkXsoY8d. He doesn't qualify. :)

Just a couple bigger miners would get us to finding a block a day as a minimum, which would be awesome! :) When difficulty is low and Rob joins us, average time drops to a few hours. Wish some large miner who does TRC 24/7 would come on board!

a block has been found "140027" but i was the finder of that block so the bounty/ reward continues.
I will be sending roy7 the 5 coins so he can distribute to finders. next block rewards had been increased to 3 trc and 2 trc for the next block after that.

Another bounty is available for the next block not found by me or Rob.

Starting at block 175,000 in the new version of TRC, this sort of attack might not be possible. Until then you MINE AT YOUR OWN RISK.

Please upgrade to 0.1.3-42 as soon as possible: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=261986.msg2810844#msg2810844

Pool fee lowered to 2%.

The only settings that effect how much you earn would depend on things like overclocking your GPU and/or memory. It'd depend on which miner you user and if you are using an ATi or NVidia card. There are threads specific to the miners and probably various threads and a wiki on tweaking specific video cards. That'd help you get the maximum coins on any pool you mine with, not just mine. :) If you don't want to over clock, then there's no specific options to worry about I think. You just need to connect and mine and that's all.

Terracoin client version 0.8.0.2 will be mandatory at block 192239 (estimated date: Oct 2nd 2013).

The pool is running 0.8.0.2.

No that shouldn't take that long I think? Can you let me know the address you had the mining deposited to and I can sniff around block chain? When a block is found, the payment should appear in your client immediately. You can't spend it until it "matures" after 120 confirmations, but the client shows that.

If you are running the latest version of the client and updated after the mandatory block, you may need to run it once with -rescan. If you are up to date on block chain, the payments should be in there.

Ok cool so your payments did get paid. It's just your wallet isn't seeing them. There was a mandatory update to 0.8.0.2 I think it was a week or so ago. I think I have links earlier in this thread. Be sure you are up to date and -rescan if not. That should sync you up and you'll download any missing blocks. Also you can point at the icon on lower right of client and see what block it has downloaded, and compare that to latest block # on the pool main page or on the explorer.

I run the nongui version of terracoind. How can I rescan using that?

It appears that 2 blocks that I solo mined are now orphans and my wallet has a neg balance... is there a way to fix that?

If you solo mined those with the wrong block chain (using older client after update deadline) then those blocks don't exist, sorry. :/

Try running "terracoind -rescan" on the command line I think? What happens is the wallet will go back over the whole block chain like it was being downloaded fresh (using the blocks you've already downloaded) and review everything. The new client would ignore any wrong blocks from the old version, and then have you in sync to download any missing correct new blocks.

It isn't always quite that easy, but in theory that is all you should need to do. When terracoind running and rescanned (it can take some time), connecting to it to solo mine should show it is working on same block number as the explorer or my pool.

Can I cancel transactions? I had attempted to send those mined coins to an exchange

If you sent transactions from a wallet with invalid info the transactions were probably never actually "sent". The coins you mined in my pool are safely in the block chain with your wallet's address. You just need to repair wallet to see/spend them properly. :)

Afraid not, did -rescan not fix it? Worst case you may need to delete the block chain and redownload. (Be sure to back up your wallet.dat file, that has your private key to let you use your funds.)

-rescan didn't appear to work.

Wallet shows the 2 blocks I mined as orphans but then shows I sent 40 TRC.

So the Sends on orphaned blocks made my balance - 40 and my earns from your pool bringing me closer to 0

Will try deleting blockchain when I get home with my wallet.dat backed up.

Thanks again

Yeah I just don't understand how your wallet could show negative coins. You may want to redownload the block chain I guess. Wallet should never show under 0 because you can't put transactions into the chain that are invalid based on the prior blocks.

Redownloading blockchain, export/import priv key to a new wallet.dat worked.

What just say hello to the pool: 1Kh3SaN4..

Don't know if it makes sense to mine here, because coinotron.com does have around 1TH/s and royalminingco.com only round 30GH/s
On the other site: it's the second biggest one, isn't it?

I like the web page and the statistics!

Hi there. Coinotron does have way more speed. They were the biggest (almost only) pool back when I first got this one started. There are other pools too, but noone is even close to Coinotron's size.

So it just comes down to preference basically, in terms of stats/interface. Also in my pool there's no login/pw that could hacked/stolen, and all coins are paid out as part of finding new blocks, so I never hold anyone's coins. Both of those were core features I wanted when starting my pool up. I also think DGM is the best available payment model.

Sometimes when TRC gets more profitable, some larger ASICs will join for the pool for a while. Maybe I should show a speed history graph on the front page of the pool's total speed (like on the user stat pages for user-specific speeds).

If you have any suggestions on what I can do to improve the pool for you, please chime in. :)

BTC-E is where I do all of my TRC sales, but they are delisting it in a couple weeks. What other exchanges do you like? I've not really used anyone other than BTC-E.

Cool about TRC and BTC-E,  would love to see a history speed chart sometime as a tab or something to click on as a sub page.

For the whole pool? Yeah I should do that.

For yourself you just need to click on your user string on the front page and it'll give you all sorts of info.

With BTC-E no longer delisting TRC and the big increase in the price of BTC and various alt coins, I've gone ahead and upgraded the web and database servers to larger machines. At the moment I'm losing money on them but I'm hoping use of the pool will pick up some.

Maybe you also considering releasing source code of your pool for whole community?

Hiya lenny. Yeah been running this pool for about 8 months. Has been fun. I thought about making a more fancy interface, but I remember some people in the bitparking thread saying they go there because of the simple web site and they don't want the complexity some of the other pools provided on their front ends. Since bitparking has a very simple page as well and is successful in the BTC world, I figured I'd keep things minimalistic on my TRC pool.

Basically I wanted to try making a pool but it seemed impossible to succeed with a new BTC pool. Coinotron had suspended TRC for a while, so I figured I'd set up a TRC pool. My main goals were to use in-coinbase payments like Eligius, keep it all very simple like bitparking, and use the most robust payment method (DGM). Took a few weeks of coding to bring it all together.

The front end stuff is all custom, but the backend runs fireduck's sockthing which is in github. Was the same software he used for HHTT. All of the customization for DGM coinbase payment/etc have been submited as a github branch.

The luck page I worked with organofcorti on, it's quite cool I think:

http://www.royalminingco.com/luck.php

(After blocks are found it gets remade when loaded, so it might time out. If so, try it again a few minutes later. I really should automate that and only serve a non-dynamic version to visitors.)

If you click on a miner's address, you get a historical hate rate graph and some other gabs of info. Some of those tabs are slow to load.

I could do to spend time TLC time to optimize some of that and clean it up some. Recently all of my coin-related time has been spent learning how p2pool works and pondering ways to set up a useful public BTC node for people who can't/won't run a node of their own. I'm temporarily running two VRT (Vertcoin) p2pool public nodes so I have a testbed.

Thinking about cleaning up the interface some with faster page loads for most stats and maybe some better graphing options. How much history is worth storing/showing though? Do miners mostly only care about the most recent few hours to be sure their miner is working?

I have to admit, that Bitparking pool have much better look, despite it's simplicity. Do you really need to keep info about security flaw and TRC loss back from 2013? And instructions how to connect, before anything else on website? ;)

IDK, for me 1 month of history would be enough.

It has been a fun year but given the ever increasing difficulty of TRC, and the pool continuing to remain small, I'm thinking about switching the port to be a public p2pool node. That would drastically reduce the variance for anyone who does mine on it. Right now even when one or two of the 200GH miners join the pool, it can take a very long time to find blocks. Unfortunately I think the vast amount of TRC hash power still just mines with Coinotron.

Thoughts if any of the regular miners who mine when TRC is more profitable than BTC happen to follow this thread?

Title: Re: [ANN][POOL] RoyalMiningCo Pool
Post by: roy7 on April 06, 2014, 04:13:11 AM
I'll be using this thread as a support/contact page for my pools/nodes/etc in general moving forward, not just the TRC pool.

So an update on the p2pool nodes is that the interface has been updated to show recent blocks as xAxis additional plot lines, and if you scroll down to your username you can click it to get a miner-specific page that will show only your own address hash rate graph as well as your total share value plotted over time.

The BTC/VTC nodes show recent block xAxis lines as I think I'll stick with it, the UNO node shows them in front of the graph data for comparison. However I think having it "in front" of the rest of the data is a bit ugly?

Feedback appreciated, and any suggestions for the interfaces you'd like to see I can try and implement. I intend to work on a transaction history to your payment address soon (like on Eligius' stats pages) and maybe some other ideas too.

I've not been around the forums or active with bitcoin for a few months, so I think I'm going to wind my projects down. The cost for the various pools/nodes are running about $170/mo, and for a hobby I've kinda set aside, that's a bit much. :)

The biggest project was the TRC pool but given the .0001 value these days, it's probably not worth keeping open either. It's been a fun 14 months, but for now I'm going to put everything into hibernation. Good luck to all.
