Title: Vircurex: Which of these coins would you like to see on Vircurex
Post by: Kumala on May 24, 2013, 05:38:02 PM
We are receiving quite a number of inquiries to list additional coins. There are already 12 coins traded on Vircurex in addition to USD and Euro, thus we'ld like to better gauge the community's interest to list additional coins.

This vote is NOT a commitment to list the winner, it is purely a market research action. If the vote turns out a promising candidate we will most likely put it up for vote to the Vircurex shareholders.

None of them. I think vircurex became a trash can for the cryptocurrencies (luckily not at bter level). You should remove the useless coin and make a better and cleaner layout for the homepage

What's the downside of adding more?  It just "looks bad?"  Might as well add them and let the market sort them out, then take down the losers.

The down side of adding more coins is it lessens the legitimacy of all coins. I agree there are way to many now with very little market participation. I say vircurex should get rid of some BS coins....
I tried to use this exchange and it was very poor in my opinion. I would take a look at btc-e if I was them. It may look crappy but it is very easy to use and understand... CHANGE THE WORDING AND LAY OUT!!!! USE SELL AND BUY make it easier to use!

The objective of Vircurex was always to promote the alt-chains, and as such it was a natural development to list as many of them as feasible. Unfortunately the recent increase in number of alts has made it difficult to support every single one of them. Going forward we will focus more on what difference the alt makes to the community, only changing reward, speed, etc won't be sufficient. Further listings of coins will require some act of innovation, something new, something that the community is looking for.

Having said that, obviously we reserve the right to delist any currency as and when we see it in the interest of our shareholders.

Adding a currency does take quite a bit of work, technically adding a currency takes less than 30 Minutes, but then what needs to be considered:
 - risk of double spend attacks
 - hard forks
 - "tiny" temporary forks
 - lack of block chain explorers
 - extra efforts when delisting a "hardly ever traded currency",  we are still geting inquiries about SC which we delisted weeks ago
 - constant upgrades when the developers throw new versions on the market
 - cluttered screen that puts off the users
 - additional server resources  (running a 16GB PC at home costs hardly anything, but check out what running a 16GB server in a datacenter costs you)
 - risk of DDOS and other malicious activites because parts of the community are not happy with the choice of listing a coin
 - trojan horses and other backdoors that migth be build in
 - and so on and on and on.

PXC doesn't need an exchange, it has it's own in a few days/weeks.
But if there was a second exchange, VirCurEx would be the right one  :)

Worldcoin is ready and would work well with it. The network adjusts well to hashrate changes, and has already handled a severe miner rush before. Now it's ready for the next level.

DGC because the developer is the most active of all the altcoins.  Plus he has the support from the community and network has been growing steadily since launched.

Wow I am surprised that you admit that when looking at a candidate coin that you apparently think has merit, it might not be listed because of Ddos fears from people not happy that you added it. That is quite a statement. I'm sure that there are many stakeholders in LTC that would not be happy to see ANY alt added. I bet BTC millionaires probably dont want any other coin ever added either.

I'm just surprised this line of thought is taken when considering adding a new coin, and even more surprised that you are willing to state this publicly. Seems like a self-fufilling prophecy. If you add a coin, you get Ddos to make you think twice before ever adding a new coin, since the attackers know this plays a role in your acceptance policy.

Voted for PhenixCoin.

Lately I've been sticking to BTC/LTC. The developers of PXC are actually creating a demand for their coin, by offering services(full casino, their own exchange, etc) where their coin can be used.

It is still relatively new and more profitable at current rates its selling at vs. difficulty.

Makes no sense to add DGC instead of WDC, since WDC came first and is slightly faster.

On a separate note, expected trade volumes should be a factor for Kumala... in terms of how many BTC worth of the coin would get traded a day (that's where he gets his money from alongside withdrawal fees). That could make BTB a good pick since it had 20 BTC of volume yesterday on bter, putting it at the same level of trading volume as TRC for that exchange.

On the other hand, DGC's slightly slower block times greatly reduce orphan rates which lead to a more stable block chain without compromising the "instantaneous" nature of the coin. On a similar note, requiring 5 confirmations @ 20 seconds each rather than 4 @ 15 increases transaction security by about 50%. Additionally, it's lack of a premine period and perhaps the fairest start of just about any altcoin to date has prevented a few ultra early adopters from hoarding tens of thousands of coins which somewhat insulates it from massive dumps that other currencies have experienced that led to their downfall. Further, it has one of the most active altcoin developers of any currency on this forum...this is invaluable.

I take the exact opposite view...I think it makes no sense to support a slightly inferior coin just because it was released a couple days earlier.

DGC being 5 seconds slower doesn't "greatly reduce orphan rates". Everything in your post is FUD and hot air. The only difference between WDC and DGC is DGC is 5 seconds slower to confirm. And there will be 25% less DigitalCoins than WorldCoins produced. That's it.

How about Nibble - it is the only verified non-pre-mined and non-insta-mined currency.

There are 21,000,004 Nibble (NBL)

Block rewards are 50, 2.5 minute blocks, 2016 block re-targets.

Basically Litecoin with a fair start, and 1/4 of the currency units.

One or two less votes for either one would be meaningless.

I agree I like both coins, and believe both will do well in the future :)  both have great developer support and both are building up a good community - not just mine n dump coins -judging these coins by their prices is poor form as they haven't been on an exchange where they would benefit from a higher volume of btc input.

Vircurex,

You need these 3 up there WDC, DGC, and LKY all 3 great coins that did something new and different, the other are well you know just scamming it up. LKY will hold it's value the best since so little of it has been mined.

"None of them are of relevancy"

Going forward we will focus more on what difference the alt makes to the community, only changing reward, speed, etc won't be sufficient. Further listings of coins will require some act of innovation, something new, something that the community is looking for.

There is only one altcoin launched lately that is actualy game changer and that is YACoin. It is by all standards the most innovative altcoin since Litecoin but in a situation where 10+
other altcoins were launched, where miners were jumping on new chains almost daily and where some people invested a lot of BTC or LTC into those new altcoins, it is expectable that
YACoin won't be looked at much. Make no mistake, "something that the community is looking for" right now are future scamcoins. Start mining it early, dump it on exchange, repeat with
new altcoin tommorow. Situation is extremely complicated right now because neither bag holders want to lose all money nor miners want to lose all coins so they are spaming this forum
with absolute bullshit propaganda for every recent altcoin they invested money or hashpower. Most people are extremely biased right now and it is almost impossible to make them look
at cryptocoin scene as a whole and make rational judgements. Other people, like mr_random, daytrader420 and MaGNeT are pathetic traders that will promote or bash anything and
everything to make some extra profit. They belong to trollbox on BTC-e, with others that have no clue about anything except eventualy how to screw naive and greedy noob investors
and miners. All it takes to realise that is to check past posts of those guys.

I suggest you to add no more altcoins to Vircurex for now. I would be OK with removal of YAC, FTC, CNC and BQC as well. Situation is pretty much already out of control. If you people
running exchanges don't stop adding crapcoins and scamcoins there will be no end to "change few values and launch" (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=214614.0) or "let's revive old crapcoin or scamcoin few of us secretly mined
for months" (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=208405.0) mania.

^^ +1 for this guy

We are receiving quite a number of inquiries to list additional coins. There are already 12 coins traded on Vircurex in addition to USD and Euro, thus we'ld like to better gauge the community's interest to list additional coins.

This vote is NOT a commitment to list the winner, it is purely a market research action. If the vote turns out a promising candidate we will most likely put it up for vote to the Vircurex shareholders.

No PWC? There were two separate polls for PowerCoin to be on an exchange with an outstanding rally of 'YES' votes.

No offense Vircurex but your pretty fucking stupid. You put up a poll knowing that coins can fudge the numbers whereas all you have to do to look at popularity is look at hashrate.

Your two clear winners

1. WDC 1gh/sec
2. LuckyCoin 400gh/sec

The end use your brain for once its not that hard.

Vircurex is wise for doing community research first.
I think BTC-e made a hasty decision adding CNC too quickly and probably kicked themselves for it later.
Adding too many altcoins may not be good for an exchange.

Though it would be nice to stay off the exchanges until the community grows some more.
All of us here would like to keep buying at .0002 for the time being.

Currently 10% the size of FeatherCoin community (after 48 hours).

But what is the average 24-48hour hashrate, these days people seem to jump from coin to coin according to mining profitability :P  Hashrate can give an indication but perhaps not an accurate one?

most the these coins are much older than 48 hours, LuckyCoin is the newest ones, and they will probably stay steady and continue to grow. Some of these coins are weeks old. End of the day WDC and LuckyCoin have higher avgs.

You are right to a certain extend, greed is the short term engine and whatever coin you hold is the one you are going to defend. I though Yacoin were a good shot because of the CPU only capacities. Obviously the savage pre-mining and 5 days to release the ss3 and amx algos made a lot of people end up with scrapes while others have millions. Still the potential is enormous because anyone with a CPU can get in.

Now food for thought, say somebody comes up with a super fast bio/atom/duckfat based CPU/GPU technology and starts reigning supreme on the transactions, would that break the peer-to-peer logic?

Even more, say somebody already has a disruptive technology and is running at 1% as we speak, waiting to open the gates when the time is right?

On the other hand I wonder what would happen if we applied Peer-to-peer technology to voting. I know, it's all a big puppet show, still, e-voting is run as we speak in client server environment with proprietary systems that we all know are rigged, why isn't anybody looking into a peer-to-peer based voting sys?

There you go, I hope this wasn't to biased and opens a wider discussion on cryptocurrencies?

Must not have checked in a while. Lowest it's been, profitability wise, has been ike 97% and it didn't stay there for long. GLD coin, on the other hand, is below 50%. I guess no dump took place at all, there ::) At least the other shit coins, accepted there fate, and just moved on...

Given that significant portion of the Yacoin 2.8M coin universe can be bought at 0.0005 or 200K USD there isn't much barrier to entry in YAC. The coin was so well distributed that record number of early miners want to sell their proceeds for cheap. The launch was truly a CPU race and no one won millions.

Virtual coins have no intrinsic value.  Value is based solely off robustness of the code and owner confidence in the coin.  Given a fair launch with good metrics and a large enough community any coin could rise to the top.  If confidence is high individuals will buy and hold coins for future value, if not they are dumped on the market and the coin dies.

Of the current crop of coins my bet is on DGC and WDC largely due to community and developer support.

Even if this poll does not result in a new coin on Vircurex, it proved that at least 5 people in the world are holding RoyalCoins.

D. None of the above.

I cannot help but notice that since all of these new altcoins started surfacing, the one truly successful alternative cryptocurrency to survive next to Bitcoin for a long period of time, Litecoin, has lost around 1/4 of it's value at this point, and it continues to drop. There are still no vast array of services for Litecoin, which has been around for years already. None of the new coins have any better services or merchants accepting them...

What makes you think creating a new coin to cloud the water is going to speed up this adoption process by merchants who are already confused? What do you think the release of each of the new altcoin does to Litecoin, and each of the other altcoins? It surely doesn't seem to be raising their value or helping resolve the confusion. Without innovations, services, and most importantly merchants accepting these alternative currencies, they are nothing but pump and dump schemes to manipulate difficulty levels of other altcoins.

Let's focus on creating quality services and getting merchants to accept the coins that are already out there, instead of trying to make a quick buck off of a low difficulty freshly cloned altcoin of the day. Exchanges not accepting new coins without some sort of new, useful features is a great step in the right direction to saving the day.

It will only become more difficult for most future coins to survive or make it to an exchange.
The standards will become higher across the board.

because LTC was too slow to make too much of a difference in comparison to BTC. Sure, it was faster, but not fast enough to fix the 'slowness problem' like WDC and DGC do.

In the United States neither paper currency nor deposits in bank have value as commodities. (Modern Money Mechanics) Federal Reserve publication...We don't need a lecture on what has intrinsic value, even the dollar is worth shit and only has value because we accept it.

Indeed, but to be frank, we're somewhat limited by the inability for merchants to easily convert to/from fiat into DGC. Vircurex adding DGC would really open the floodgates to new development for this coin still in its infancy.

DGC is not another "pump and dump" coin. It pioneered the concept of a truly fair start, and had no pre-mine whatsoever. No bounties were paid to exchanges to bribe them into supporting it, something typical of your everyday "pump and dump" altcoins. All development bounties (such as the one for the DGC paper wallet) have been funded solely by donations from the community.

Oh, and let's not forget the DGC for advertising platform that bartitus is launching later this week!

I would say it's close between Digitalcoin and worldcoin, but after a fair amount of research on the two, I think DGC has a pretty significant edge for various reasons.

For example, just came across this: http://dgcmarket.com/index.php?

If nothing else, it shows a lot of commitment from the DGC community

I just don't see how WorldCoin is losing to a Broken ass Video card and Pokémon cards when the coin had a 12+ vote lead.

Jesus you're bitter. I suppose by that logic they should shut down ebay as they also sell broken hardware and pokemon cards.

Don't get me wrong as I hold a lot of WDC and want it to succeed too.  But so far the only thing I'm seeing from WDC Dev and community is hot air and a lot of it going around.  Why not shift focus and make it happen.  I will be on board promoting it if it does.  Until then, DGC is leading the charge in the altcoins race and I'm not talking about this poll.

I see alot more happening and more growth happening in the WDC front than dgc.. and I also hold a significant portion of DGC as well as WDC.  What is this hot air you talk of?  Things are happening, these are new coins expecting big things overnight is ludicrous.  There are 20 in the chat in the worldcoin forums now http://worldcoinforum.org/, funny enough discussing development and designs.  Where can I go now where everyone is discussing dgc development and growth? nowhere :)

How is DGC 'leading'? WDC price is > DGC & even when DGC price was higher, WDC was still often more profitable to mine?

I dont see any advantage DGC has over WDC. Feel free to enlighten me however.

The way i see it DGC has the edge  ;D, but seems pretty close ... and you can always take in consideration :

DGC has 11 days since launch and WDC has 17 days.
Forum posts on bitcointalk.org 115 pages DGC and 83 pages WDC
Both have their own Forums
DGC has marketplace ... don't think WDC has yet ... and for the LOOSER who said that we put used stuff ... clearly you don't shop on Ebay(Probably Best Buy will sell on your market)  ;D

If anything at least we know that both coins have a pretty good support community
I think Vircurex should put both on and remove the ones that are dead like CHC and others

How many WDC are in circulation vs. DGC? How many different exchanges is WDC on vs. DGC? Does having more coins in circulation and being on more exchanges already (obviously increasing overall volume) mean one coin should be added to yet another exchange vs. the other?

Meaningless.  Both have active communities, both are worth very little right now.  More time making coin worthwhile, less time trolling each other, would probably benefit both.

Both coins have better communities than almost every other new alt coin out there. They even have equal support here. I don't think there's a need to argue or fight guys. The most sensible solution is to add both and remove some of the barely traded coins.

There is alot of action happening on the exchanges with WDC right now, very little with DGC.
I'm looking at cryptsy. It looks like quite a bit of action. Volume Last 24hrs: 135357.86443851

LOL  wdc did x2 that in 2hours
33435.60950589

33435.60950589/135357.86443851 = 0.247016379 != 2*12

Lol you are looking at the wrong exchange hahha  and the figure is now over 522k for the last 3hours... mcxnow.com   add on bter and cryptsy and you will be over 700k :)

I pointed out from the beginning that I was looking at cryptsy. That is the exchange where the two currencies we are discussing are being traded.

Besides. I never said WDC wasn't being traded. I showed that DGC was.

Laugh at those items if you like but hey its a start, give the site some time. Good on Baritus for putting up the site dgcmarket.com. He is quite active and has some great ideas for dgc which you can find out more details on in the Cryptsy chat area. Some other great things in the pipe for it too. I see someone has listed actual houses now for sale on that site too.

I think dgc is looking like the best alt at the moment. Great coin name (professional sounding unlike some of the other crappy names) , great dev who is in it for the long haul, solid community support and innovative business ideas. Sticking with btc and dgc now.

This vote is NOT a commitment to list the winner, it is purely a market research action. If the vote turns out a promising candidate we will most likely put it up for vote to the Vircurex shareholders.

We put up DGC and WDC for a shareholder vote. Depending on the vote outcome we will decide whether or not to list the coins, check out https://cryptostocks.com for details.

If other coins are interested to get listed then we will purse such request only if it either the Vircurex management is convinced of the benefits or is made from a shareholder who has at least 1% of the VCX shares.

Just a couple things to keep in mind people:

1. This exchange isn't very user friendly. I've used it and I don't care for it.

2. Recently Kumala issued a report stating that the investors of the company who bought the IPO will now take the hit for the ~$293,000 losses from the hack back in May. Investors will not be getting dividends as their dividends will be used to replace the losses for months to come.

https://vircurex.com/Reports/2013-05.pdf

3. I haven't looked into it but has Kumala publicly given his personal information in case there is a future incident where he needs to be served court papers or questioned in person?

Just some things to think about.

If you look around the forums you will see that the alt-coins are in the habit of giving away their coins, and sometimes ask people to do just a little bit to get those coins.

This hydro character should be banned

I could have swore you put me on ignore. You got banned from a Cult, you fucking lunatic, like anyone gives a shit what you say.
Buying votes, doesn't mean people give a shit about GLD, it means you paid them, to vote for GLD.

Take a look around the alt coin forums and you will see that many of the coins offer incentives of giving away their coins, but they may ask people to do just a little thing for them, and GLD is no different than that.

But obsessive repulsive persons who are not allowed in the GLD threads, still are posting in the GLD threads, though they are not welcome

Pretty sure I'm allowed to post where ever I want to, bud.
Paying people to vote for you coin, is pathetic, period. It seems to be working though, sure did build up some massive support. I see the GLD network is just screaming along, at a huge 7 MH/s....BAHAHAHAHA, losers

Vote is going on now, brother. WDC and DGC. I see no reason why DGC wouldn't be voted yes. And, GLD, was NOT on the ballet ::)

When will we know the results of the vote?

Result of the votes should have been shown on https://198.211.105.133/securities/34#vote the 09 June but was some bug on there site but it's fixed now by Kumala, result from 8612 shareholders votes was:

Result (Y/N)
WDC 195/5546
DGC 190/22

So whats this mean for WDC or DGC? Are they going to get added? I see that the overwhelming majority voted not to add either but are the no votes even relevant in this vote? Are they just going by who has more Yes votes or is this it? If someone could clarify please that would be most appreciated.

I believe this was just to gauge interest for each coin, it was not actually a vote to see which one(s) would be added.

The shareholders of vicurex had their own votes about each coin. A separate vote for each one where each share got one vote for or against each coin.

The results were something like:

WDC: 195 yes to 5000+ no

DGC: 190 yes to ~100 no.

The thought is that one of the major shareholders really hates WDC.
