i wonder: if Bitcoin will become the main coin, what will happen to the money we are using now like us dollar?

As far as cryptocurrency is concerned, there is no doubt that Bitcoin is the first and the most known coin of all times...it is currently the King of all Cryptos and all the rest are just considered to be altcoins (even including Ethereum and BCH). Now, maybe you have in mind is the fiat or paper money we are now using...what will happen to the US Dollar if all the people of the whole world would suddenly be using Bitcoin?

Well, to answer that question I am giving you another question: Would that really be possible to happen? And my answer is a big NO. I know that Bitcoin may have a good future as a digital currency but it will never totally replaced the fiat money issued and backed by the state power. They may exist alongside each other peacefully but killing each other fatally may not be on the menu.

We have to understand that for as long as there is a government they need something that they can control with because control is an extension of power. Take away that control and the government may itself irrelevant so would the government relinquish the control it needs via the fiat money. Of course not.

I also believe that rather than make the government the central enemy, it would be good for the Bitcoin movement to make it a little friend on its side by giving in to some regulations and some compromises so it may not suffer the fate of being banned. Please give my regards to China!

You forget that the biggest driver behind fiat money is the government. As long as taxes are due to the government and they have to be paid in fiat, there will be use for your dollars and euros. No government is going to accept that bitcoins are more valuable than the fiat they print; hence the government will continue to accept fiat money at least for taxes and penalties.

It will still exist for quiet a few years and yes It will disappear once the government feels that there is no need of paper currency, as it is the evolution of money.

Agree, I've seen this topic many times in different way. I wonder why bitcoin will effect the fiat. Of course bitcoin will not replace the fiat , I will also ask you a question. If there is no us dollars, How do you know the price of the bitcoin ? Bitcoin just like a stock, but you can use it like currency. But it will not change local currency at all.

Paper currencies are costly, there have even been underground storages for emergency reserves, in the rare case of a war happening. During war time it's custom to airdrop counterfeit money bills onto the opponing population (World War 2). That reserve would have been a complete replacement paper bill.
Those preparations costed millions, and decades of maintenance, without beeing of any use so far. Last hundred years!
Safe forms of electronic money could replace that.

although we know that not really happen or impossible in my opinion about your question if bitcoin is the main coin the money that we using now is maybe disappear if the time when the bitcoin is main coin the money that we use now is only an antique money but what happen to the products. all products and things in market in cyberworld etc. will be higher because bitcoin has a higher crypto currency i think that all products and things will be go up

Bitcoin is a crypto currency and it's valued in dollars and other currencies, so nothing is going to happen to going to happen them, as they both are different, dollars are going nowhere, they will be as it is safe and sound unless Kim Jong decides otherwise, till then all seems good for the dollars. You just need to be patient and not worry, dollars is getting stronger, Bitcoin won't every replace dollars but Bitcoin shall give you the increment that dollars can never give you.

I think both can be used together because not everyone knows and has a bitcoin so real money will still I use. in addition, bitcoin users will become confident because it can be used for transactions directly.

Bitcoin being the main coin I guess only uncertain predictions. Especially considering the use of Bitcoin that must use the device. Local money will still be loved and widely used as the main currency. Because the original will not be replaced by something intangible.

It would still be US Dollars if Bitcoin would be the main coin, I don't think our own currencies has any title of which is the main coin or minor coin in a country. For as long as it can still be used by the people then it would still be the same currency we are using now. It's just that Bitcoin will just be one of the most popular and widely used just like the US Dollars.

It won't anything happen. Bitcoin still bitcoin and money still money. They play a complementary role.

To be honest, it is more complex than that, USD or any fiat currencies is simply not on the league to compete in a technological sense, what the fiat have is just the government.

I think that bitcoin will not replace fiat money. Because the government will be difficult to set the fluctuating bitcoin. Possible bitcoin just as a complementary money only.

These only shows that we are the ones making competition from fiat and bitcoin. each of those currencies have a sole purpose, so why would you ever bother comparing one another? I would tell you that Bitcoin will be the main Crypto currency of all crypto some says bitcoin in the king of all crypto and Im Totally sure with 100% thumbs up about it. But what is going to your mind is just like this: "bitcoin will be the main money /currency of the world and what will happen to dollars?" well honestly fiat or paper money will not contradict with bitcoin as they work separately. Didnt you   realize what will happen to the government when bitcoin will become the main stream currency?, Government will collapse and they dont want to make it happen as government wants to control a country with paper money ot fiat money.

old things give their place to the new and better options. that has always been the case of the world. money as we know it today (aka Dollar, etc) have not always been like this. it was not paper printed neatly, it was coins, then before that it was goods and a lot of weird things.
bitcoin or some form of digital cryptocurrency may some day replace fiat too. but it won't be fast and probably not in our lifetime.

It is quite impossible for bitcoin to replace fiat money which is issued by the government. The fiat money is more important to enrich government and the country. There are many people all over the world who are not familiar to bitcoin and many of them are illiterate where bitcoin is an online base crypto currency.

The possibility of Bitcoin replacing fiat in every day trade is almost nil. Taking a simple example of the recent developments in China, it wouldn't be possible to make Bitcoin universal in terms of usage. There are a lot of other concerning issues like carrying out micro-payments without having to shell out much in transaction fees, sometimes the network itself, possibilities of more forks etc.

They will still eligible to community as always, people will try to create more choices so the dollars and other currencies we used nowadays will remain useful to community, of course bitcoin will be used more often than them but they are still be traded for buying and other purposes.

I think they will disappear for ever, like the frank and many other currencies.
And we will keep them as souvenirs or we find them in a museum.

Of course our money will continue to exist and can be used until whenever, this is because fiat money will continue to be protected by the state through the central bank.

I think a local fiat is needed in a country.
A central bank needs to be able to take influence on the money the economy deals mainly with in order to keep the economy of the country competitive.
That can't be done with bitcoin. The crypto currencies are an addition to the fiat system. But I think they should not replace them.

I believe the day when this thing will happen, that day will be the big day for all of the investors and believers of Bitcoins. This will be like a turning moment for all of us, and after that day we can surely expect very different world then we are living in now. Things won’t remain the same as they are now.

Bitcoin it virtual currency and fiat and the like are physical currency. We hold them everyday of our lives in small transactions which bitcoin i think will complicate in using  instead. So physical currency will not disappear in my opinion.

Do not think too much about that. We know that Bitcoins would have trouble reaching that state to be the Main Currencies of the whole world. When that happens, it means we no longer have to worry about that oneday, btc will collapse and pull a huge amounts of money. And that means that in the near future,  where we live will have BTC ATM Stations ... and services that accept payment by btc.

Dollar (USD) are not backed by anything so it is just worthless technically but it is used worldwide just because of political power of US government.
US government is actually in $20 trillion+ debt right now because they are printing dollar every year. This can't be like this for next few decades, when bitcoin will be adopted in most of the countries than this dollar or other fiats will be just worthless like it should be.  ;)

If bitcoin is widely spread all over the world, it will not completely replace the currency fiat, which is currently used. This can not happen in the real future. Existing currencies will long walk along with the digital currency. In order for people to fully switch to the digital currency, it is necessary not only official legislative recognition of the digital currency. It is necessary that absolutely all citizens have access to the Internet, had for this technical knowledge, and this is not feasible.

The fate of fiat money depends on government decision. They may decide to adopt cryptocurrency and make their own coin and scrap fiat money or they can continue using it so they can print more money again and again. The government needs control in order for them to function properly.

If this would happen in near future there would be a great chance to earn profit in BTC more than other currency and I believe this will happen in near future that bitcoin will become the main coin and currency will also get dissolved in the bitcoin to join the race of profit .if this will happen trading will become easy and as the economy goes up.

Most probably if bitcoin will hold the global world then the currencies will be wiped down and nobody will use them and everybody will invest and change their cash money into the digital one so there is possibility of such a revolution and if this will happen the bitcoin investors will be happy to invest more and more.

Our paper money and coin will still be paper money and coin. It will not vanish, and I believe that bitcoin are just digital currencie, unless they release a paper form of bitcoin but as far as I know it will not happen. It will stay as what it is, and the only thing that will change is its value. Just like our paper money, it will stay but its value will change.

Actually it's not gonna happen why? We all know that the government needs taxes in order to fund various public expenditures. So if we all work in cryptocurrency world and earn a lot they will not gonna track us because we only use wallet as our identity. So if they can't track us they can't put us a tax and they can't improve the country.

I believe that the usual money will almost always exist along with the crypto currency even when it is recognized throughout the world. Now Sweden and Denmark say that they will completely switch to the digital currency. However, I do not believe in the success of such an experiment. It is simply technically impossible to completely switch to crypto currency.

Bitcoin ,if it becomes the main coin, then fiat will try to beat it and overthrow it, because like it or not people will support fiat and not bitcoin if there is a world wide poll, people don't like bitcoin because of one, it's related to technology. Two, the amount of FUDs against bitcoin and three, it has no government control. These might add up as a big part and people will be very must against it.

I see governments inching ever so close on cryptocurrency seeing the positive benefits of bitcoin plus the blockchain technology which recorded all transactions in a chain. Making their own crypto could potentially replace coins and paper money which also cost a significant sum in production, plus it's easier to tax people seeing their own spending recorded on a chain. Russia is gearing for a head start, and has introduced their plan on creating CryptoRuble, so we aren't really far off from fiat turning into digital money which bitcoin pioneered.

If ever that's the case then I think the money that has been here will always be there but maybe with lesser value than Bitcoin. That is "if" Bitcoin will become the main coin which is too far and impossible to happen. And bitcoin would have to be centralized by then.

Bitcoin will be majorly used as virtual currency for digital transactions as major of the countries still have not made bitcoin as the majorly used crypto currency as paper currency is still more important in daily life. For many of the regulated payments & taxes of governments , paper currency is mostly used .There is still ray of hope for bitcoin in the coming days as demand for the same is day by day booming & most of the merchants may also switch over to this soon. Government of any country or state will never accept bitcoin as a main or national currency because of the following reasons.
1) Bitcoin is decentralized having no central authority to control it, government will never allow a currency which is not in their supervision and control.
2) Transactions are anonymous and it will be difficult or impossible for government to check the transaction details of anyone.
3) Taxation issue. It will be difficult to collect taxes from the users over the network.

I also think that more and more fiat currencies will be available in digital form (e.g. in Dubai they start a own governmental cryto currency right now). The value will be measured to bitcoin but the fiat money will still be controlled by the governments.

Nothing will happen to the dollar and all other national currencies. They all support the national economy and the government will never lose control over them. If I have to ban cryptocurrencies they will do it. The users of cryptocurrencies also earn Fiat to have the opportunity to buy bitcoins. Fiat will never be supplanted by bitcoin.

Fiat will not die anytime soon, even if Bitcoin reaches mainstream adoption. At worst, it will remain an alternative way to pay. It's worth noting that credit cards and NFC payments were able to decrease fiat use, but not significantly.

It is difficult to be sure that bitcoin will completely replace our usual paper money. It has already been said that it is more profitable for the government to control money independently, besides, imposing taxes on them. But there is another aspect - the human, in my country the older generation does not even know what e-mail is. Go to bitcoin for them will be something wild, unreal. It is most rational to use bitcoin and our usual money in parallel.

In my opinion with in a few years the paper currency will entirely change in to electronic currency .The money transactions will be electronic transaction.As per our economic condition value of currency is increasing ,so may be in future there is a chance  to use bitcoin as main coin...... ::) :)

You are right, If bitcoin will be the main currency in the world, nothing will be happened, because the real currency cannot be destroyed, We can use our local currency + our bitcoin like an option, so there is no problem at all, I think that one day, bitcoin will be used internationally without any problems.

The use of electronic currency will not change anything. It does not bring recognition of bitcoin. Electronic money is the same Fiat only in a different format. They also are controlled by the state and similarly affected by inflation. The main difference between Fiat and bitcoin is that bitcoin cannot be obtained without labor, therefore he did not threaten inflation. This is good for users but bad for management of the economy. Bitcoin will never be a primary currency because it will collapse the world economy and the world plunged into chaos.

you should never thing that bitcoin will completely wiped out fiat money like dollars but we should expect a significant drop on how people use fiat money. Bitcoin is the money of the internet and many people do not have access to internet therefore we should expect many people to use fiat. Your question is incomplete. First of all Bitcoins is the main crypto currency, It is used by everyone almost, Everyone who comes to cryptocurrency first comes to Bitcoin then goes to some other altcoin. Bitcoin is the main currency, which is digitally used. If you are saying that Bitcoins will take the place of US Dollar or some other fiat, then it is not possible government will never let you do that.

If you mean about being a main coin is by being the primary currency in one if not in every country then I think if bitcoin reach that stage then that old currency will be completely replaced by bitcoin. So probably every remaining old currencies like dollars will become just an assest than can be converted to bitcoins but will not be reproduced again by banks.

Let us understand one thing that the world is changing from conventional use of currency and everything is digital and one thing i can assure you is that bitcoin wont be the primary currency in any particular country but view it as a global currency which can used to trade globally without any borders.No governments could stop a decentralized currency,they could only shut down exchanges.

The governments uses their local currencies as of the tools to control people and which is some Bitcoin denies then, so I strongly doubt the governments in their numbers are going to hand over their economy to a technology they're not in any position to effectively monitor and control. Of a fact, we're never going to hear the last of any fiat currency, because those are actually symbols for the various countries they stand for.

I also agree.Bitcoin as of now can't be considered as our main coin because it's price keeps on fluctuating.Maybe when it will become stable,it might have chances to be our main coin.And by that time,we will pay taxes already depending on the amount we earn.The government will have to control it already.

There is a big different between bitcoin and fiat currency, and that is government backed. Fiat currency will stay around for centuries as long as the Country exist, government won't let their currency fade away. Bitcoin meant to be an alternative currency, even though bitcoin still in the early of its development, no one could predict what will happen in the future, whether bitcoin will be the major currency or still be an alternative currency due to some problems of bitcoin transactions.

it's very hard to imagine if bitcoin is primarily used instead of fiat currency. because it very impossible to a cryptocurrency to beat a fiat in every other way and fiat can be used anytime, anywhere with or without the internet while bitcoin can't be used without internet and also people prefer fiat over bitcoin so, it is impossible to beat fiat.

If it happens, Bitcoin will become our international currency that is accepted by differrent nations. Maybe fiat money will not vanished at an instant but I think their values will drop continuosly until it becomes valueless and left Bitcoin as the only existing currency.

Even though bitcoin and other altcoins are getting great in the market but beating fiat money is impossible. Still bitcoin would considered as alternative currency that we can used in other field. Not only because of some limitations that bitcoin have, but because of some areas that don't have internet and don't have  chance to get through it.

Anyway, this is just a kind of speculations towards bitcoin in the future. But then, it is far from reality since bitcoin is not fully establish and embraced by the community unlike fiat currency.

Very well said sir, I agreed with you even bitcoin show a potential that it can last for a long period of time. It is not enough to replace the fiat that we are using. Bitcoin is just for the digital currency that help us to earn more.
Although BTC can't replace our money there's nothing to worry because it can still helo to the economy of every country.

I wonder...is this a real question or just the ultimate in the noob showcase?  Do you have any idea how the Petro Dollar works and how much global power is at stake to keep it as the global reserve currency?  I'm talking war, war, and more war.  BAD war.

I think that it may affect our economy because if bitcoin peso will be our main coin what will happen to the main peso that we have industrial part of economy will affected, goverment, and people will change and even though your country we must think first before that happen we never know how it will change someone's life and economy.

The local currencies and cryptocurrencies will coexist because they have both advantages and disadvantages. For example as we see now, cryptocurrency is used like stocks/exchange and many of us earn through this but it is hard to pay  bills using cryptocurrency because of its volatility, and the conversion of cryptocurrency to local currency is necessary to do so because it is more stable and accepted within the countries.

If Bitcoin does suddenly happen to replace them, then the various tokens of value that we currently use will more than likely just fade into obscurity as they get replaced by either digital versions of themselves, if it ever makes it that far, or are simply phased out as the demand for them becomes dramatically reduced. Either way, Bitcoin, at that stage in its life, would be replacing them in a way that would likely mean their death, either over a prolonged period or relatively quickly.

(IF) fiat currency (hard paper money) will be replaced with bitcoin are you willing to shoulder the taxes for it. Because that is the end result of it because the government must produce something for the economy. So don’t asked for this kind of bargain if you will complain in the end.

(IF) fiat currency will be worthless, we can display it in frames and hang them around our house. Or you can even used it privately(you know what I mean/like tissue).

So (IF) this idea is not good to bitcoin users like us, so it is much better that it will remain deCENTRALized for long.

As long as there is a desire for physical assets (i.e. homes, cars, goods), there will always be a centralized currency given the government can regulate physical assets.

if bitcoin become the main coin but its not approve by the government, then the money will still exist and will be used by many people in all country. but if the money is gone and replaced by bitcoin, then the money its no use again. but i think government will not replace money with bitcoin if they can not interfere to the blockchain or with bitcoin itself because they want to take control for crypto currency world but the fact they can't.

Given the situation, the fiat would be useless because we are only using digital currency. Those fiat money will just be paper with no value. You can keep them as souvenirs but you can't use it to transact anymore just like when new version of bank notes are released, the obsolete ones would be worthless and this will happen also if we totally shift to digital currencies which is unlikely to happen. People would have a hard time transitioning totally to digital currencies due to a lot of factors like lack of tools needed and there would be difficulty in accessing the coins due to limited internet connection.

I don't think bitcoin will become the main coin in near future. There are some problem
 1. you can not use it when there is no internet. And it is very hard to provide the internet everywhere in the world.
 2. It is hard for a illiterate people to handle bitcoin.
 3. Governments will not allow a decentralised money to rule over the dollar bill.

Bitcoins had becomed the main coin in digital currency all of the alternative coins be traded with bitcoins, I think what do you mean with main coin is bitcoins become main currency, the fiat money will be replaced by digital currency bitcoins and fiat money will be useless. if by any chance bitcoin becomes the main coin the paper currency we use will still be used for some years so that there is no sudden rush . maybe u would have heard about the demonetization that was occurred in INDIA at the end of the last year . i am just saying this because it could be the possibility if paper notes will be no longer required. other than that it is still hard to believe that cryptocurrency can take over the physical currency all over the world

I do not believe that in the near future the society can completely switch to using exclusively digital technology, including digital money. In life there are different situations and the usual paper money in them is simply irreplaceable. Now some countries, such as Sweden, are trying to switch to digital money, but they are unlikely to succeed.

Well no.1 Fiat money become useless . if bitcoin will become the main currency then people will not hold a lot of  fiat money. and its alternative coin that we can use when we have transactions or agenda with the person we want to transact.

well if that was the case i think the people will not  hold a fiat coin.because bitcoin is really profitable .i think everybody change thier coin into btc because it can become a bigger  value if we hold btc.but i think if this will going to happen most likely the government will take controll on bitcoin.

You need to update your ideas about Bitcoin:

1. the limited amount of Bitcoin is an advantage and not a disadvantage and would always make Bitcoin scarce and more valuable;

2. Bitcoin already is used internationally and that is one of the purpose it was created;

3. at no time would everyone convert their cash into digital money as both digital money and cash have their roles in the society.

I think maybe bitcoin will be our main money in the future. if bitcoin becomes our main money, then the money we use now we will not use again as a means of payment wherever we are.

I think if this ever happen than only few currency notes people will keep just in case they want to give to somebody quickly and get the things who does not have or accept such payment, rest everything will be done online because people will prefer going digital and making payment easily and easily exact payment can be done even if its in cents.

Bitcoin is already the main coin because it is the first cryptocurrency that ever created by satoshi nakamoto and if bitcoin will stay for being the main coin then it will not do anything about our money that we are using because they are different and bitcoin is just like a back up currency or money where we can spend it in some shops or places.

Happy news of course when we hear bitcoin can be the main currency in the world. Real money is still in need of course, there are some sectors that really need real Money as a tool To make the price stability. Real money will not die because bitcoin will remain side by side and need each other. I hope bitcoin prices will continue to increase and the existence of real money will help bitcoin become one of the enormous economic power.

bitcoin coin has always been the first and most popular coin and proven to date bitcoin has no heavy competitors in the world of crypto.

When, not if haha, Bitcoin becomes the main coin, so the world's reserve currency, we will see the FIAT money we use today turned into digital currencies. Gov't ones of course, specific to whatever geographical area they're in.

This thing is impossible to happen because bitcoin is a decentralized stuff which means no one would able to control it. Government throughout the world wont really allow such thing to happen and besides every countries currency symbolizes their power which means having a main coin isnt possible at all and add it up the supply of bitcoin is just 21M which wont really be sufficient on the people who would use it globally.

There will be a relief for the people if government adopt bitcoin as the main coin because it is the most valuable coin of the time and there is a lot of room to earn more profit as compare to the coin of that country and another thing manual taxation system has flaws and there would be an ease to collect the tax online on single click this will give a freedom to user as well as to government.

Yes that can be happen because both of them are important and they are making the good difference for the coming days of the money. The bitcoin is getting more and more famous the people are buying bitcoin for the cost of the profit so make bitcoin hold for the long time and make money from your money.

It may be that the money spinning now will be gone and will make this second currency and it will be available to poor people who can not keep pace with what is happening in the future. I can hardly afford you to buy tools to have bitcoins and of course you can not use them. So what happens when money is used by everyone is still available but it is for those who can not afford to buy cell phones and computers /

Fiat currencies will always be there, we can't know about Bitcoin tho. Governments will never give up their currencies for something they dont control.

Well you know fiat can't be replaced In the first place, because right now there isn't  any strategy to counter the ill effects of replacing it.
Bitcoins are a cryptocurrency for a reason, they might have been a Normal currency but it isn't, because its meant to serve like an investment similar to gold , its not meant to be brought into the market as a regular currency is what I feel.
Take for example :-
The people who are old and poor, those wuo don't know about internet and cards , the kids who are yet to understand the difference between fiat and money ..aill they be able to use it ? Will there be any appropriate software available in the market ? Will that be easily accessible and cheap?

There are a lot of things that is of concern
Obviously bitcoins can't replace fiat! For sure but they can be accepted as a global currency which everyone can make use of without any boundaries.

this question is often in this forum. much debate with what you say. between pros and cons. I think it's very difficult and probably never will happen.

I think that it won’t affect the main currency like USD or any other local currency of the respective country. The main reason is national currency can’t be carried away so easily which is representative of respective currency and it is also not replaceable because of traditional use of it. Just imagine how people or we ourself will react about it and that could be chaos for national economy too. Plus bitcoin can’t become main currency due to its limited number and insufficient reach to all over globe. So that’s simple why it can’t become main coin.

I think Bitcoin is more on alternative money to fiat or local money
paper money are audited by the government to initiate how much growth in economy of a particular country
if bitcoin will be on main money then the government will adjust and it is hard to audit and trace the bitcoin because of Decentralization

so I think it will not replace instead will alternative only

If bitcoin becomes the main currency then paper money will be left out and even paper money will lose its value and will be lost. But it seems like it will be very difficult to happen, because the government will not let that happen.

If bitcoin becomes a major currency and goes into use as cash. Trading in daily activities will become more difficult. Especially this will not happen in Vietnam. Because in Vietnam, using currency unit of VND, it must be converted in US dollars and converted into bitcoin. Moreover, in Vietnam very few people use bitcoin.

Bitcoin is a treasure. It's the main coin, but its not same thing as dollar. There is no indication that fiat money influence Bitcoin price after all. Bitcoin has been developing on its own, disregarding international news and major currencies movement.

I think such money will still be in use because there are so many people who can not use bitcoin. Most of these people may be illiterates. Until such people can make transactions on their, they will still hung on to the local paper money.

I do not think bitcoin can replace the money that now exists. Because after all the paper money is a medium of exchange that is often used by all people in the world.

I think most Fiat will lose its value while some government adopt bitcoin with rules / monitoring or prohibit hard activity bitcoin. bitcoin always been a major currencies (among cryptocurrency other), but if you mean major currencies including Fiat, I think it's not going to happen because of the government can only be made regulation or prohibit bitcoin to prevent it happen.

Although there is a possibility in the future digital currency will be more dominant, because it is easier to use compared with conventional currency such as dollars.

My answer is the situation of bitcoin now will be the site of the money when Bitcoin ways win, money will be the secondary option to pay for things,,  and more likely reserve as payment during system are in maintenance or breakdown...

I am convinced that ordinary money is almost always present with crypto currency even when it is recognized worldwide. Now in Sweden and Denmark they say they will be fully converted to digital currencies. But I do not believe in the success of such an experiment. Technically it is not possible to completely migrate to crypto currency. 8)
