I had once an electrum wallet installed on my computer. This was 2-3 years ago, when I just started with bitcoin. I was receiving bicoin from faucets and I remember that the mininim that was sent to me was 0.001 bitcoin (1 mBitcoin).  I also rememeber that I had one receiving transaction of 1 mBitcoin into this wallet. I forgot about thiw wallet for about 2 years then opened it. When I opened it there was no bitcoin inside, so I can say I lost 0.001 bitcoin. Now it would have been 3-4 USD, not important. There is also a chance that I never received that transaction from the faucets or that I do not remember.

It didn't happen to me because I always make sure to make a note of my private key, username and password of my wallet or important accounts listed on my personal notebook. so if ever my computer or my phone will crash I can still use it in my other device.

i've once had a wallet in bitcoin core and had some very few dollars in the wallet.
unfortunately somehow my bitcoin core software formatted and contains no info., i've never minded about having backedup the wallet as it is a secure wallet. if i've recovered it then i'll have around $400 now. :'( :'( :'(

I might have... I clearly remember reading about BTC on some forum and setting up a cpu (or gpu?) miner near the very beginning of the network (must have been around 2010-2013). It was on an old PC, but my wife didn't like the fact that is was running 24/7, and asked me to shut it down.

I can not remember wether or not i found a block back then... BTC didn't have much value, and i don't think i completely grasped the concept anyway. Back then, to me, it was just some fun new technology to play with. The PC is long gone, and so is the HD... I might have mined some blocks, i might have dedicated a lot of cpucycles but never hit a block,... I'll never know.

I did not but similarly I lost some great tokens that is worth a lot of bitcoin today, because of inputing a wrong ethereum address and trying to integrate to MEW. The ethereum address I have used apparently doean't contain a pruvate key and was just a crappy app. A lot of token is stuck on where it was and been tryin' to wait for the time until this crappy app upgrade and finally have its private key and not just a pass code.

No, I haven't lost bitcoins because of such things but I have lost it because of bad decision when investing bitcoins. I don't know which is worse, to forget password and feel stupid because of that or to lose bitcoins that you have saved for months and make some stupid decision on exchanger. Always be careful what you do otherwise you might regret it.

Nope never lost any but I do know friends who have lost their key's in the past. Hopefully for those that have lost, the amount was not significant.

I've never lost any bitcoins, I don't like keeping them on my local machine, so I use blockchain.info's wallet. It seems very safe and secure for my use. Also I can use it wherever I want on any device I desire.

When I earned Bitcoin from faucet, I lost 10 mBTCs because I lost access to the email I registered on the wallet, it’s quite a lot if I redeem them now.

I have only ever lost small amount of bitcoins from faucets when I first started to do anything with bitcoin. Small amounts so I suppose if everyone is in the same boat the 21 million bitcoin out there will always become less. You have to really feel for people that lost whole bitcoin back in the early days. I was reading through old posts on here on lending and there was someone wanting a loan of 10btc and people were like that's 100 dollars don't think anyone would lend that.

I didn't lost bitcoins due to reasons that you mentioned. If computer would crash, I wouldn't lose my bitcoins, because I keep my private keys in a safe place. Forgot password? No! I can forget my email or some services accounts password, but not my wallet password. I'm using this word often, so I can't forget it.
I only lost little bitcoins after stupid investments, but that's another case.

Did you lose BTC somehow? forgot passord, computer crash ...

Few years ago, when i was still a newbie in bitcoin industry, i make a bitcoin wallet in blockhain.info and all i knew is that i need to save up my username and password and thats all. I dont even know that i also need to save up my private key to access my account whenever i forgot my password. If i still remember my wallet have 1+ bitcoin.  Even now i can still remember my stupidity as a newbie. If only i could turn back the time.

Oh, if that happens, I do not envy. Pomoymu except how to write in the support is no way out. I always write down my data in several places for storage. It's your money and it's easy to lose it. Do not be too careless. Safety is most important. So good luck to you.

I never lose my Bitcoin because i always make multiple backup from copying encrypted wallet to another hdd/flash memory and write mnemonic seed on paper then keep it at secure/hidden location.
Same here, I have stored my encrypted wallet file in many flash drives which is encrypted with really strong unique password.
I have also stored my ETH files in the same way, Haven't lost anything till now other than few satoshi stored in my early bitcoin wallets.

got mine once when my laptop crashed and my electrum wallet cant be recover because the key is also stored inside the laptop so no chance for
me to do anything and after that incidents I always save my files inside my usb so in case things happen again I still have recovery key to put
in and get back my wallet add to sync.

No, because I always make multiple backups, including password databases from a password manager. At least one backup is on a remote system (encrypted, of course, so there is double encryption of wallets and databases).r

I joined several faucet sites in the beginning and lost almost all those passwords for those sites. Most of them do not even exist

anymore. I also tested some wallets over the years and deposited some Satoshi's into the wallets... those Satoshi's are also gone

with those sites. Most of these sites close down and confiscate those coins or they only shift numbers around in a internal ledger,

so it is not gone forever.  ;)

Yeah, that happened to me many times especially when I was a beginner and when I started using Bitcoin.
I lost many wallet's password with some satoshies because I didn't master their use.
Also I couldn't connect to some online wallets because I lost my phone and then I couldn't recieve the verification sms that many online wallets require.
But now, things have changed and I keep all my important data in secure place where no one can access it but me.

Nope. I didn't lose btc because of somehow lose of password, crashing app or computer or somehow hacking. I able to lose my firs half btc just all because of a app that I use in order to convet some tokens to another coin. I made many transactions then it didn't came so end up loosing all the money I used.

So far it didn't happen to me and I don't it to happen. That's why I make sure that I back up all my private keys into paper. I have a notepad and in here I wrote all important things like frome email address to passwords and private keys. It's kinda tiring to write all of these but I'd rather experience these than to lose when worst things come.

Nope. I didn't able to experience such instances and I don't want to because we all know that the bitcoin we earned is the product of our hardworking so we must know atleast ho to protect it by simply guarding it with all of our hearts in order for us to avoid loosing it and we can use it in the future.

I've lost 0.5 BTC with Sports betting :))) But it's the story of last year when Bitcoin price was under 1k$ and there are a lot of video campaign you can easily earn 0.03 or more with a video published to your Youtube channel with 5 - 7 minutes length. I betted for Barca in their match with Malaga and in this match Malaga won with 3 goals. It's so terrible I can't believe it :( I'd lost my first 0.5 BTC in just 90 minutes :( But for now, I don't do any bet or dice anymore, I just trade and keep my Bitcoin safe then sell it at good price :)

I managed to mine more than 1k XMR and sold them for 0.0025, the best it had at that time (that's what I thought).
It went up more than 10 times and was worth more than 32 BTC, not just that but even Bitcoins are worth more than 10x from the price I sold them at during those days. It's also a way how I lost a "chance". I should have been holding those XMR, if not, then that BTC but I sold. This way too we can lose BTC by losing our opportunity through panics.

Had a 1.85 btc accumulated from the dust spam way back 2015, and have stored them only on a blockchain.info wallet without any clue to spend it or to transfer it somewhere safe. Those dust came from numerous private keys that I just swept and somehow accumulated it to 1.85 btc without me knowing it. I've lost the identifier and the password (most especially the mnemonics to unlock the wallet) that could potentially give me a good $5000 at most since I already found a way to spend those dust outputs.

No, personally i had never lost any bitcoin dire t by making forget ourselves about forget  it once a incident happened with me that was technical problem. Actually i entered in my pc because of problem in mobile.
To access my blockchain account but there was asking for the verification of email but a big mistake that I made was that I was not getting the verification email at my real email i'd, and that happened continously with me to about one year, but after accessing i made my earnings back with high price of the bitcoin. SO whatever happened here, I was happy at all.

Scamming is bit different thing in such kind of thing everyone is victimized and the question of losing bitcoin due to forgetting password and computer crash is valid but there is no such possibility because there is a mechanism if someone forget password it can be recovered and computer crash doesn’t mean a lot because servers have many backup and bitcoin don’t let anyone lose it.

It happened to me when I am tempted to join in a gambling site. For curiosity, I registered and transferred some bitcoin to play for some game. But, because I am too drunk that night and lazy enough not to jot down my password, the following day I cannot remember, even what username I created. What's more, the password. From that day I knew I will never retrieve the bitcoin I left on that gambling site.

I haven't experience it yet and as far as I know lost wallet due to forgot password means losing that bitcoin permanently in the market because there is no such way to recover lost bitcoin it will be hang in the system and no one can able to get it back. That's one big issue in bitcoin if one owner of big number of bitcoin dies and none of his inheritance know it the bitcoin will be he own will be forever gone.

No, until now that never happened to me. Of course that you should also try to minimize that risk with backups of your seed and private keys, on a pen or something like that. I don't advise you to put it in a cloud though, even if the file is encrypted. Having a hard wallet would probably be a good idea as well. I think it would be funny to keep a seed of a wallet on a bank, but I'm not sure it would be entirely safe there, so better keep that seed somewhere else.

Nope , I've never lose BTC before but I once forgot password. I don't really know what do you mean by computer crash though . Dont really get the connection ??? . I tried to retrieve back my password but i don't know how. Then i got tired and realize that ii have to let it go on and just create a new one again that's why i advise you to saved your password in some documents so even if you forget it, you can easily look it in the document where you saved it.

Lost the Wallet - ID of my Blockchain wallet. Never managed to recover it, I also had it stored on a text document (LOL) somewhere on my computer but it was nowhere to be found. Wasn't worth anything back in 2015 (About $10 nowadays) but I wouldn't mind having them now.

Unfortunately, I was almost clueless about Bitcoin then and didn't really bother with it, I wish I had, nothing I can do about it now.

Did you lose BTC somehow? forgot passord, computer crash ...

The day when I first heard about btc was in 2014. 3 years from now. Cold rainy evening, I and my brother sit next to our computer and played a game. We heard the news on the background TV playing. The news told us about the phenomenon of bitcoin and we started googling it. To the end of the night, we knew everything about btc for that time and went to sleep. I thought "huh, it even cannot recover my electricity bill" and deleted a miner from my video card. Some years later I regret it so much)

I have a wuestion; what are your thoughts about keeping alts on bittrex?

I am using the extra google authenticator app, is it safe enough?

My btc is safe in a wallet, but not sure about the online wallet in bittrex...

I was losing bitcoins. At times I was new when I did not hide my Private Keys on my wallet at Blockchain.info. I remember that it is still in 0.3BTC. because it was easy to accumulate that amount before. I'm fine because my files are deleted and one is in my copy of private keys, so now I'm sure it will not be lost. I was doing it in the usb and I saved a copy of my fb messenger too

And my current wallet (coin.ph) i didn't forgot the password of that wallet but its always saying that incorrect password or e-mail maybe its been hacked?  Idont think so . I repent cause ididnt make any back up. hmm i think that things happend to make sure that it will not happen again to me and also experience for me to feels what the feeling if you losst your btc  so  in the future you will be secure.  As of now i know what are the disadvantage about not being secure. So that i will make a backup to secure the important  things also to avoiding any loss..

Yes, and the reason was I forget my password in my wallet. My phone fall and got cracked so the screen turned to black and didnt open it again. I got sad that time because I have bitcoin in my wallet but I cant open it. I tried to enter different password that I always used in my accounts but it doesnt fit. After that I learned and I always saved my password in a piece of paper in a my computer as well so that If I forget I can recover it.

I have stop bitcoin because of this for almost a year or quarter. It just frustrating and honestly depressing because I invested it. Not like who earned it. I have lost bitcoin because my old laptop display burned. Since it was a very old version , the hardisk was working only on the same model. It is good that I kept my bitcoins in an online wallet and only a small amount in my offline wallet.
If you keep your bitcoins in offline wallets you should save on an external hardisk all the important informations because you never know what is going to happen

I do not even have bitcoin yet, in a few weeks I'll get bitcoin. I already anticipate forgetting passwords, storing bitcoins in a safe place so as not to be stolen.

I had 6.25 bitcoins in Mt. Gox. I didn't bother following up on it when they closed because at the time that wasn't very much money (I want to say slightly higher than $500). It was a real bummer and I didn't know what to do.

Too bad for you, that's really something.
Well, for me, I lose all my coins when I lose all my private keys in my computer when it crashes like they detected viruses. I tried to restore all my files but it's too late. So now I learned my lessons, I wrote all my private keys in papers like I have 5 copies and safe keep it.

I hold my coins on exchanger (yes, I know it's risky, so don't waste your time quoting my post and saying how risky it is), online wallet and hardware wallet. In the case I will loose one - other two will be here ;)

I also experienced this recently. The fact that because of your so busy, your being panic and all that happen is you forgot your Password, worst case is a password of your wallet. And what is more worst is that your really need to cash out your or exchange or bitcoin, I'll thank God that I didn't forgot to take note my password. Thanks to my diary.

I try to be a careful guy, so I have at least three copies of everything that is important on hard drives and USB sticks.
Recently I added a paper version where it is possible.
Three months ago my hard drive was not responding anymore. Thanks to my copies that was no big deal!
I'm glad to say that I never lost bitcoins till now.

Unluckily I loss some in a scam not in any password loss or crashed computer. It hurts at first but I'm doing fine now thank you to my new found community that helped me recover my loss last year (through DEEPONION). Hopefully I won't encounter that way of losing since I'm beginning to save my coins for future purposes. Keeping my private keys to different locations, in that way I am able to recover it when my computer crashes.

It even sounds very scary to me. I lost my password from the online wallet once. I just could not find a piece of paper where it was written. I really panicked. But fortunately I found the password in an hour. Probably this is the worst moment with Bitcoin in my life.

It's quite difficult if ever we lose our bitcoin because as far as I know we cannot retrieve or there is no way to bring back lose bitcoin, it will permanently out of the circulation and will never get back.

Thanks for that, I think i need to learn about your ways even it looks much time consuming but for security and safety. I think it’s worth the try. I highly appreciate the idea of paper money and honestly never have any idea of how this might be possible or how this process can be. I will eventually research on that aspect. Then about hard drives and USB, I have already done that and thanks for the reminder that it might be functionality issues that must be addressed and to be careful at that.

If the hd still works, you should be able to easily recover your coins.
Many places, one example is Aliexpress.com sell hd to USB converters for about 10$. I once bought one, where you can connect 3 different types of hd:s (only one at a time of course) IDE, Sata and laptop-IDE.
If your laptop was old, the hd is probably laptop-IDE. Some manufacturers screw their own converter to the end of the hd, but it is easy to remove, and under that should be the laptop-IDE connector.

I didn't yet experience losing of bitcoin, forgot password or computer crash you know why? Because, every time that I've to create an account, I am saving all my account and password on my computer in case of forgetting my password, I was just looking on my computer to check it out. Password and account are important especially in MEW you need to keep your private key hidden to secure your wallet.

Luckily, I haven' had this kind of situation and my coins ate intact. Loosing them is very unfortunate and I hope nobody else experience it. I've been keeping my password and private key in my notebook and I believe no one will ever find out about it except me. So I am confident that my coins are safe. I just hope that I won't be a victim of hacking like those I've read using the same wallet as me where they just clicked on a certain link then all of a sudden their btc were gone. That's why I always keep in mind to never click any link especially those that used url shortener.

I have never really been in this position out of carelessness of loosing my password, seed and so on... The only way I know I have ever lost BTC was when I tried to give gambling a little try and as much as I do not want to regret it, it was quite painful back then and that was just about 0.01BTC, so nothing much than what one cannot afford. Except for that, I have been careful with my assets.

I lost bitcoin because I was scammed. I am just a newbie and I purchased more than one bitcoin to deposit in an HYIP site. This was last year when the price was around $400-500. I am confident that I will be able to get back my coins since there are so many testimonials that they are paying and I received it every day for a time directly to my wallet but then after a while, the site went offline and I was never able to recover around half of what I invested. It was a great lesson for me never to invest in an HYIP site again. Regarding losing password or computer crash, no I did not lose BTC because of that because I always write my password and private key when creating a wallet.

I don't know who is responsible behind this mishap but sorry to hear about your loss. 5000 dollars is a good amount however, it is not the end of the world. You can earn that much amount again by the same method you used earlier and nest time you must write down the identifier and password somewhere safe so that no such causality occurs again.

Nope. I didn't able to experience such instances and I don't want to because we all know that the bitcoin we earned is the product of our hardworking so we must know atleast ho to protect it by simply guarding it with all of our hearts in order for us to avoid loosing it and we can use it in the future.
For that, only, it is always mentioned for the newcomers and even the legendary users to learn maximum about bitcoins, how to use, how to convert, ifs and buts and all that stuff that can make you some loss. Bitcoins are earned so hard, so huge power of mind and waiting and many others are involved so better is to take care of it.

It happened to me once I accidentally deleted my file containing infornations about my wallet and i just couldn't remember the key good thing though it doesn't have a lot of coins but lesson learned. I now save backup files encrypted zip folders online in my email just in case something happens again.

It really looks like there are possibilities that I can lose my bitcoin if I'm not careful about it. You need to backup your seeds, private keys and be careful for phishing. Glad that I still don't have any bitcoin yet, but I will took every reminder here so that I will get less chances of losing my bitcoin. And thanks to everyone for sharing their stories here.

There is no such condition before this and this was exceptional case my advice is to contact the security department and register your complain there, a lot of money is lost by you and they should negotiate your loss, and use some credible wallets to keep you coins safe and sound so that they can’t be taken away by anyone else.

However, please read the security measures to have the bitcoin in your wallet. if you do't any coins now also it will be help you for future. Most of the wallet gives you wallet seed initially you can able to save when creating your wallet.
Other than that you can save your private key and wallet.dat file to keep secured you wallet account.

I already lose a lot of bitcoins in my newbie days because i don't have an idea on how these things work and what are the things that i need to do and don't so i am just a wild newbie who wants to try anything that most of the people say so i lose my bitcoins in investment because of the hyips that offers big returns in a short time but now i am smarter enough to not do it again.
