Clowns to the left of me, jokers to the right . . .

Apparently only now, 20 minutes to launch, do they realize they have a ton of claims to process.

I still don't understand with the financial resources they have, they insist on running it like amateurs.  I think Tux needs to cash out his coins and just let a professional run it for him.

MT is not a good business psychologist.  He should have said, "its going to take two weeks, sorry we want a perfect and secure relaunch"

AND then proceed to pull it all off within a week to a surprised audience.

That is is good business showmanship.

MT did you get that?

these postponements are getting annoying. Once or twice is fine but now its annoying. They should just say 1 week or TBA until they are certain they are ready. Im going to be sleeping for the trade reopening :<

Do you know what happens when they said the equivalent of TBA. It became a flame fest for them to update every hour. Now if your going to bug them to give you update all they damn time it's very hard to make accurate estimates. Fuck seriously 24 hours? People waited like 13 years for Starcraft 2 through numbers of delays.

At least they update you that they are working on the claim.

Considering SC2 alone has a core community forum at minimum 5x this forum and the estimated market value of the game and associated organizations is over $2 billion dollars. I actually believe it is substantially larger and more capable of operation than MtGox in terms of financial means.

I completely concur with the earlier poster.  I mean, what the hell?  They are sitting on a gold mine and yet he's trying to run it off a shoestring budget by hiring English teachers part-time?  He had an opportunity to be a multimillionaire but now he's blown it.

I claimed my account with a strong password, Dwolla number, and pre-existing e-mail and yet it has still not been resolved.  When I wrote to them earlier today to point this out, I receive a message saying "Don't worry, everything is on track".  What does that even mean?  Is my account cleared or not?

The thing is, it's not even my hundred or so bucks that I'm so concerned about.  Rather, he's holding up the entire Bitcoin economy, since folks are holding off on buying new coin until they can be sure that they price will not take a huge dive once Mt. Gox re-opens.  I'm starting to think he's just written this whole thing off anyway -- he's basically given up on Mt. Gox.  And so now he's just trying to resolve it as cheaply as he can.

What do you hope to accomplish with stupid posts like this?

1) Either you wait a few days and continue to use MtGox

or

2) Your butt is hurt and you pull your funds out

Stop posting crap in this about how your so angry. This isn't "My Butt Hurts Forum" it's "Bitcoin Discussion".

Apparently being in this forum is like being in LA 1992 every day of the week.

Guys there's a very real chance that this business will just shut down and declare bankruptcy and we'll never see them again.  It would actually probably be the smartest move.

The core business has very little value.. 2 employees, a website full of security holes that will cost more to fix than its worth, and pretty much 0 customer base with lots of potential legal liability.  If anything at this point the company has a negative value.

I chose 1.  It has been more then a few days.  So now it's 2.  How the hell do you announce a new go live date, and then with 21 minutes to go, say oops, we have lots of unfinished work so guess it will have to wait another day.  At this point it doesn't matter when it happens...  it's too late.

Damn you, Mounted Gox. I woke up early for this crap. And I was having an awesome dream too. See, I have this white noise machine because the neighbor likes to chop wood and scream at things at all hours, and my noise machine was set to "swamp sounds". So I was dreaming that I was trying to survive in a swamp with snakes and crocodiles all over. My dog was there and he was annoyed me trying to chase birds, and paw and goof around with a turtle. I was angry because I thought we needed to cook and eat the turtle for "survival." Also, apparently I had a cell phone app to instantly light a fire in a wet swamp. Someone really needs to make this for real, despite the physical impossibility.

The dream really stopped being about survival at that point. For some reason, I thought I needed to build a swamp house, so I did, practically instantly, out of swamp trees. The house was on stilts, hovering over the swamp, and I distinctly remember thinking how it needed more stilts and wasn't structurally sound. Then I was really mad because it didn't have internet and I needed to check Mt. Gox and be there for the opening. Then I woke up.

Also, in the dream I had to pee really badly and when I woke up I had to pee really badly. And my friend said that my swamp house was a "sausage party" as no girls were there, and I said something like "Well I figured that you were bitchy enough to fill their absence."

Yeah, apparently swamp life make me a misogynistic asshole.

When Mt. Gox finally does come up, thousands of people will have their cursor poised over the "withdraw" button.

You cannot run a depository institution like this.  In the US, when a real bank can't handle withdrawals, the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation moves in. Just before closing time, an small army of FDIC examiners, auditors, and guards, armed with court orders, moves in on the bank. Everything is frozen. All cash is counted. All records are backed up.  The CEO and most of the executives are fired. When they do this on a Friday, by Monday, the bank is handling withdrawals, with FDIC staff running things.

The Mt. Gox clowns are saying "Trust us. We can't be reached by phone or mail. We aren't saying where we are. We aren't saying how much money we really have.  We aren't saying if any money is missing. We aren't saying when we'll really be paying out customer funds. We aren't saying whether we've been trading on our own exchange. Trust us."

Early on, it looked like Mt. Gox was merely a victim of their own incompetence. As time goes on, the situation looks more suspicious.

It's probably time to bring in the Japanese legal authorities. Whether they like it or not, Mt. Gox is subject to the "Financial Instruments and Exchange Law" (http://www.fsa.go.jp/en/policy/fiel/index.html). This regulates all "financial instruments with strong investment characteristics" in Japan. It also regulates money transfer services.  Japan uses broader definitions in this area than the US does.

This regulates all "financial instruments with strong investment characteristics" in Japan. It also regulates money transfer services.  Japan uses broader definitions in this area than the US does.

There's a shadow just behind me,
shrouding every step I take,
making every promise empty,
pointing every finger at me.
Waiting like a stalking viper
who upon the finger rests.
Murder now the path is must we
just because the son has come.

Jesus, won't you fucking whistle
something but the past and done? (x2)

Why can't we not be sober?
I just want to start this over.
Why can't we dream forever?
I just want to start things over.

I am just a worthless liar.
I am just an imbecile.
I will only complicate you.
Trust in me and fall as well.
I will find a center in you.
I will chew it up and leave,
I will work to elevate you
just enough to bring you down.

Mother Mary won't you whisper
something but the past and done. (x2)

Why can't we not be sober?
I Just want to start this over.
Why can't we sleep forever?
I Just want to start things over.

I am just a worthless liar.
I am just an imbecile.
I will only complicate you.
Trust in me and fall as well.
I will find a center in you.
I will chew it up and leave.

Trust me. Trust me. Trust me. Trust me. Trust Me.

Why can't we not be sober?
I Just want to start things over.
Why can't we sleep forever?
I Just want to start this over.

I want what I want.
I want what I want.
I want what I want.
I want what I want.

Yeah, they're running a con.. of course.. this case will just end up on a list of another 100 internet scams that run every day.. the only one getting any money back is their lawyers..  We're not special.. we just fell for a run-of-the-mill broker con, like thousands of others.. i  just hope u didnt lose too much money.  People reading about this anonymous exchange will just laugh and think 'those guys were retards' and move on.. LOL.

Whoever took over mt gox obviously had no intentions whatsoever of investing in the infrastructure.. what possible motivation could he have had other than the existing balances?  Their business has 0 value now.  If the person taking it over had really been interested in it he would have fixed the website and hired 20 people, gotten major investors from goldman sachs or whatever.  By the way a friend of mine who is in the hedge fund business sent this guy a mail talking about invbesting in their business and believe me he got replied to instantly and he was very itnerested.. haha.

This guy at this point has no option other than bankruptcy.. he can simply claimm the bitcoins were 'haxored' and then hold deposits from internaional depositors cuz a civil suit in japan just aint gonna happenl.. if he has japanese customers imho it would be in his best interest to give them their money back then shut it down,

Please, when you have another dream post it here - i laughed heaps - Love it.

Sure there would.. u have no idea how charming and believable a good con man is.  And what lengths they will go to to steal a quick mil+

Anything that me or you can think of or takes 2-3 days to throw up on a website is easily within the realm of even a mediocre con man

What would be the major incentives to drawing this out

#1 he's probably liquidating bitcoins on tradehill as fast as he can without crashing their value too much.  The longer he has plausbility deniability, the longer the bitcoin value will stay over 10$. . turning a mil+ con into a mega 5-10 million $$ con.. certainly worth a shitty claims page. LOL...

Every single person who had a strong password should already be verified. Just like I tried to tell you (in an awkward manner) ~2 days ago, certainly you remember?

has ANYONE here been verified?  has anyone been able to withdraw money? even if they cant trade?

A decent ponzi will certainly allow a few people at a time to slowly get paid out, before the whole thing comes crashing down... it's a classic move.

We are witnessing a master at work, my friends..

even if he IS honest (very slim chance) and hell he's obviously not even close to honest... this business has 0 value.. and will have to go bankrupt anyway, just from the legal fees.

So has anyone had their account "verified" by MtGox?

I would feel better if MtGox would just say that we have 60k accounts, only 15k of those accounts were active at the time of the crash, 5k of those accounts have started the verification process and we have actually verified 1,245 of the accounts. Verification is going much slower than we expected, we will bring the exchange back on line when we verify 2,000 accounts. We will post the updated stats of how many accounts are verified once a day.

If we had a message such as this, I would be content to wait a bit, but until I hear that someone, anyone, has been notified that their account has been verified, I will be suspicious that none ever will be and that the exchange will never open again.

This would of course suck, and since this is unregulated and there are no legal agreements between users of MtGox and MtGox, it will be too bad, so sad, but at least if it fails, we can move on. I would just like to know if it is going to fail or if there is any real reason for hope.

Edit: 6/24/2011 06:23 I have been notified that my account has been verified. Good news!

With say 15000 claims left to verify, this will take a 10 man team 3 days to solve if they do a claim every 3 minute round'the clock.

According to MT, there are 4 people working on this now. It's going to take it's while guys... My guess is that we will see more delays.

Question:  Mt Gox's main account the one with all the bit coins.. where is that money now?  can someone read blockexplorer and make sure the guy hasnt started liquidating via tradehill?

The first thing I would do is start spreading that money throughout a bunch of little accounts then hit tradehill with it like 20,000 a day wile i stall.

Perhaps it was just a misclick, or perhaps you did not not provide more information. According to what MT said on IRC, what you describe should be enough. Personally I provided more info, just to be sure. Must suck to get that message, but it will probably be sorted out. Just going to take some time..

Password strength was supposed to be checked over 2 days ago, why are not those (good passwords) 100% verified?

I worked at a company years ago that hosted websites.  We had a 12 man team to do phone support for maybe 500 websites, and the phones were packed 24/7.  Why 4 idiots are doing this is beyond me.  They need something on the order of 50-100 people.

I have no idea. I had a very strong password. That I find it impossible anyone would be able to bruteforce without using an insane amount of processing time. But there's no point in speculating really, we just have to wait.

Notice how the threads complaining about "only 1 hour before trading" seem to have been forgotten now?   :D

+1 for the tool quote.

I think Mt. Gox will come back online eventually. I kinda don't think it'll be in 24 hours. I think these guys are just lacking in PR skills at this point.

Oh well, at least now I can wait and maybe see it open slow over the weekend instead of mad trading rush during my normal sleep hours.

I still don't understand with the financial resources they have, they insist on running it like amateurs.  I think Tux needs to cash out his coins and just let a professional run it for him.
Simple fact: Businesses often scale faster than infrastructure.

They are trying to hire more people but as someone who has been involved in hiring IT staff many times over I can tell you it's costly and time consuming.  Sometimes so much so that you can have an open req but no time to go through the hiring process. So the way I see it right now Mt. Gox has a choice between going through the hiring process OR fixing things and getting them up and running.

I suspect they are doing the later.
