He is a manchild and I bet his only interest in bitcoin is the fact that the Winklvoss twins 'own 1% of bitcoins.' Just like Jobs vs. Gates it has more to do with a pissing contest than any benefit to humanity.

Personally I don't think it's a good thing for that megalomaniac to have interest in it.

I'm sure the only interest Zuckerberg has in BTC is to try to fuck with the Winklevoss. No way he's supporting BTC knowing that the twins own 1% of it.

Let's do not forget that these guys sued him for hundreds of millions $. At best he's thinking how to sink BTC to laugh out loud at the twin's faces, or maybe looking into it to get inspiration for his "Facebook coins".

Just imagine if Zuckerberg would be BTC with 1 billion $.

Calm down, you're gonna get that sticky stuff all over your shoes. Chances are he's only interested at all because he wants to crap on the Winklevoss twins somehow. I'm sure he understands if he did invest he would make his arch rivals even richer by increasing the value of their holdings. I'm pretty sure that's not in his long term plan. He's already worth billions.

The real problem is: if he is really gonna do something, why Hungary?

And no, it's naive to think that Zuck is stupid enough to spend millions just to screw the Winkleviis, or that he doesn't know that anything he can do will only have temporary effect on Bitcoin and if it backfires it will benefit the Winkleviis hugely.

Actually this is closer to the truth than you might imagine ... however he still has to demonstrate that he can handle his coins ;) ....

... how good would that look ... "all Zuck's coins belongs to us" being posted up on pastebin?

BTC as the currency of choice on FB? That would be sweet.

I'd love to use my mined coins to directly fund my Farmville 2 account. The amount I can mine isn't significant enough to bother exchanging to fiat or spending on anything else, and Farmville 2 isn't significant enough to spend my fiat money on. Win-win.

He almost certainly wants to get an impression of the popularity of Bitcoin when he's asking random people about it.

Maybe he's been asked by the establishment what he can do against Bitcoin, that's why there is this meeting, so he will probably come up with something built into Facebook (much better than those Facebook Credits of course). That way he can also hurt his Winklevii arch rivals and kill two birds with one stone.

He didn't steal anything, you can't steal the idea of a 'social network'. In fact myspace was already out, so if you really think Mark stole the idea of a social network, then them two guys stole it from myspace.

You can't steal something if it isn't already made, Facebook wasn't made. The whole concept of having the social network for the university wasn't made. Mark literally made it himself. Them guys wouldn't of been able to program the site, that's the reason they spoke to Mark in the first place.
Them guys had a IDEA, that's all.

I can't say I invented flying cars if I draw a picture and show you the proof. There have been many people who have thought of a idea, but couldn't make it. So someone else did. But they didn't steal it, because it didn't existence in the first place.

Not exactly true... he was supposed to be making it with/for them.....

That's true, he did say we was going to create it for them, but he didn't copy their exact plans. The two men only had ideas, no designs etc. He couldn't of stole anything because them men actually didn't create anything except for a idea, which social networks already existed at that point. They said ONLY for their university. BUt, that's just limiting the social network.

Yet, Mark did take some of their ideas, but he turned them into so much more. The film "social network" actually explains this and Mark points out some very good points. One of them was that them two guys wouldn't even know how to do it, he's the one who created it.
In fact, them two guys did provide him with some code, yet Mark didn't even use ANY of their code. He used their general idea, but turned it into 'his' version.

Personally I don't think it's a good thing for that megalomaniac to have interest in it.

This worries me, someone who has built the worlds largest repository of more than a billion people's thoughts, photos, address, phone numbers, friends, etc and actually could give two f**cks about user privacy, and was a part of the NSA PRIZM program (naturally) getting into btc will completely throw out what bitcoin is about.

No thanks Mark.

I remember someone mentioning that back in Facebook's early days Zuck was speaking to his cronies, and mentioned that "people who use Facebook are stupid" this was before the platform was opened to devs. Once the open graph and other FB APIs became available and I took a look at the massive amount of data you could use in your app I was a believer in the fact that he probably did make that comment.

Many of the people using Facebook have no idea the things us developers can access on them. Remember Mark is a nerd.

I don't follow your objection. Why don't you start the world's largest social network and base it on anonymity? Here's a freebie. Call it PoserBook.

Nowhere did I say I wanted to start a social network. What Mark has done is an achievement in of itself. But I think your missing the point of what I'm saying the mission statement of Facebook and what bitcoin stand for are not in alignment what so ever.

That's true. A lot of owners of BIG companies have been 'interested' in Bitcoin, but they usually don't opt in for it.
