Title: What do you think about faucets?
Post by: wolf1k on October 04, 2017, 02:18:35 PM
Hello guys,

So, I've recently started reading about cryptocurrency and stuff related to this field.
Today I stumbled upon these"faucets" that give away a certain coin amount after some waiting time.

Is this a relevant thing? I mean, the amount they provide is usually insignifiant and I don't really see how people could make use of that amount.

As I was saying I don't know that much about these things yet but I am really eager to learn.

If you multiply the amount they provide you with the value of one coin you will notice that it's not worth the effort.

Instead of using faucets you could join some airdrops, but always pay attention to the rules.

For airdrops you should create an ethereum wallet on myetherwallet and also an waves wallet is advisable.

Always look whether you need an ethereum or waves address, otherwise you won't get anything.

I only personally used faucets when I was first starting out on bitcoin just to have an idea on how bitcoin works, only using it to transfer between multiple wallets; just to have a general idea on how fees and transactions work. But it is really really not recommended that you do faucets if you're goal is to earn, as I'd rather get a job at a fast food chain like McDonalds and use my wages to buy bitcoin.

Some casinos have faucets and then you can gamble it up to something worthwhile. You've got nothing to lose when you're betting with free coin.

Faucets is waste of your time, better spend it learning and gaining knowledge. It will be more profitable in perspective.

A faucet is where new people can earn a lot of sts if they spend some time each day claiming. How it works Your cock completes the captcha on the faucet to receive the respective sts and each faucet has a timeout for the next claim. You will receive the sts that the tap owner pays to you and they will receive the money back from you completing the captcha for the money they received and the money you saw on the website ads by clicking on the link. on claim. You have your income from completing captcha and they make money from receiving the captcha you have entered and advertising on the website and they use that money to pay you back and maintain a website.

I think a lot are not worth the time, however with that being said, if you currently have very little or no crypto and looking to build up your stache, its a good, free way to get started.  Do a little research and find the best ones, and visit them regularly.  I know a lot of faucets have a minimum withdraw amount, due to the fees, but if you are consistent, its a good way for beginners to build up their portfolios.

Faucets are shit actually, it pays very less most of the cases like 100-200 satoshi per hour and if u see a much better paying faucet that it's most probably a scam.

Faucets may be useful for beginners but I think it's actually a waste of a lot of time and many are fake also. You can make better money by doing proper research and then by trading.

I tried some of them as well but the most of them only waste my time. there are some video's on yt to combine the fauced earnings but in summary they still very very small.

It all depends how things proceed.    Your view is what people thought when a faucet might give out 5 bitcoins and what was the point when each coin is barely worth a few cents.   Obviously we had growth and it was worth taking an interest.

Faucets serve both sides maybe because its trying to raise interest and usage among the general population.  Maybe its linked to advertising or they want your email address.   Its all reasonable and in some cases the coin grows and little amounts are worth something and it was worth taking in interest in that new project.

If you are super busy or super skilled, it might be better to place a new thread in the services section.   Ask people to pay you for skills in bitcoin or whatevery crypto you want to take.    If you have a skill its always worth getting involved hopefully

Faucets is waste of time.Suppose,If you work in faucets about 6 hours will get 1$ coin and if you do any work in outside you can earn 5-6$ easily? so,why you want to earn coin from faucets? If you want to earn coin then join social campaign, airdrop or signature campaign in bitcointalk. It's easy, need few times, but need some knowledge

I think they are not worth the time if you are new to Bitcoin/Crypto-currency then you can try it just to get more knowledge on how faucets work and how much time it takes to reach the withdraw amount etc, there are better ways to earn you just need to do your research.

It's a useless idea, to spend 12 hours a day without stopping and getting 8 satoshi, whether it is worth doing.

I've realize that faucet is just a waste time. Just think about this. If a faucet would give you 0.00000048 per HOUR. and its minimum payout is 0.0003. It will took thousand years to earn 0.0003. See? not unless you have thousand of referrals.

This are complete waste of time as per me as against the rewards which you get is not worth the time you spent on those videos etc. I would prefer learning more about bitcoin and other cypto currencies so that based on research I can buy those in that time.

The question about the faucets is mostly for westernized countries, clearly it is not worth its weight in gold, but at some point in the beginning, faucets can be profitable, and especially in countries like Madagascar or Bulgaria or any other country where the standard of living is not the same, it is even a great way to start, to begin with.

Faucets at Lisk and Ether were particularly interesting at the beginning, even for Waves.

It's good that I read this topic. It seems that beginners at the start always make a rookie mistake in desire to get their first coins and then participate in these unprofitable faucets.

Faucets are good in one case : it's when you have a lot of refferals .
If you can't convince people to sign up using your refflink , then you can't earn as much as you want ... Otherwise faucets are the most appropriate choice for beginners

Faucets are waste of time. The amounts they pay are extremely low and they often require to accumulate a certain sum for withdrawal.

You're never going to get rich from faucets but despite what some people say you can certainly earn 2,000 satoshi+ per hour if you pick the right faucets. You just need to know where to look.
I found them a great way to learn about cryptocurrency and start my coin collection before going on to buy more coins. Also, you can try building up referrals to generate a passive additional income.
Don't write them off completely - it is free money afterall.

I like to use certain faucets, especially the ones without too many ads and a clean site. Won't earn much, but it's something... check out the one in my signature. It is new and a great one!

True - some faucets you only have to complete one Captcha and you earn between 100-250 Satoshi - just wish there were more of them!

What's nice about Freebitco.in is that they're still paying the same "value" now as they were then. It's set to the USD price of bitcoin, so as bitcoin goes up or down so does the faucet amount

Yes, between $0.002 and $200 every hour... Another good point of FreeBitco.in is that the referral system worth. It's not a faucet that disappear after sometime and you lost all your hard work referring people. The faucet is working since much time ago and all your referrals are there yet.

The comission is high, 50%, so if you have a good amount of referrals you will increase a lot your earnings. Depending the faucet it still worth, that is the case of FreeBitco.in, I try to claim on it maximum as possible hoping to get the best prizes $20-$200.

Faucets is where you work hard so the owner will earn more every time you visit. You waste all of your time and realizing that the amount you will get after 2 weeks or 1 month is equivalent to a price of candies. The worst part is some do pay while some do not.

Faucets aren't all that bad.
You just have to take a step back and adjust your perceptions.
You're getting money for nothing! The only thing you're providing is your time and you can claim while watching tv, waiting for the laundry to finish, waiting for the dinner to get ready, ...
It allows you to get familiar with crypto-currencies.
It gives experience with wallets and transfers.
When you have amassed a small hoard, you can try your luck at trading if that's something that interests you.
It's NOT a get rich quick thing!
Now, look at it from the faucet owner's perspective.
Main source of income = advertising. Before you can get any decent advertising you have to have a LOT of traffic.
You pay for servers, you do maintenance, run protection vs bots and scammers that are trying to steel your money 24/7, you keep the faucet filled, ...
A faucet doesn't run itself and for every success story there are a 100 failures.

So, faucets aren't going to replace a proper job, but if you don't have anything better to do, it can definitely get you some extra cash.

I said it over and over again, do not waste your time in this new era faucets, They could be making millions just putting you through a endless stream of advertising.
You better invest your time doing freelancer work or filling some polls. You can participate in a signature campaing and sharing information in this forum. If you have any talent you can do works in exchange for coins.

good luck

Totally agree with this. Most people spend some down time watching rubbish on TV or staring at nonsense on their phones so why not learn something new and make a bit of cash at the same time.
If you go into it realising you're only going to make a few $/£ then you won't be disappointed. Don't expect to make your millions from faucets.

Has your faucet been around for a long time? One thing that puts me off adding new faucets to my list (and I get a lot of requests) is that people start off with great enthusiasm then the reality of running a faucet hits home and they close down.
That's why I only add faucets that have got some track record to ensure people are clicking on dead links on my site.

Faucets are good thing to start understanding crypto world.  They give you an experience.

And some faucets are really good for time killing where you earning small amount of money while playing games (like cryptoracers).

If you have enough free time faucets can be interesting for you. Then you can start to learn trading or investing in ICOs from your little earnings in crypto. They are very good chance for starting . :)

I suppose they are somewhat new, operational for three'ish months for the bitcoin faucet. The altcoin faucets are two'ish months old. First month I see mostly as a trial run to get a feel of the land. Now the code (I'm running a custom script that I wrote myself) has had time to mature and the faucets are dialed in. Everything should be running smoothly and be stable at this point. Some of the faucets are even on the first page of the Faucethub premium faucet list despite having to fend off a major bot attack a week or so ago.

As for referrals, I'm surprised at how few referrals I see at my faucets.

I understand you feel so because if you only earn 1000 sat for working many hours...it's not only feeling.

My faucet offers you nowadays in average over 100 satoshi for few seconds spent.

What's so funny in captchas and pop ads?
Faucet is an easy and quick site to visit.
Easy way to waste your life too.

If you have enough free time faucets can be interesting for you. Then you can start to learn trading or investing in ICOs from your little earnings in crypto. They are very good chance for starting . :)
Cool, waste moths of your life collecting from faucets, invest that money in ICO and then wait for several years to see how your 1 dollar turns into 2$.

I "wasted" time collecting from faucets. To be honest, I still collect from faucets. I then started referring users to faucets back in the end of August. Since then, I have made over 0.026 btc. If I never started claiming, I wouldn't have ever started referring. It's worth it if you ask me.

How many satoshi can your referral earn from faucets on daily base, considering that faucets are paying 15-20 satoshi?
I'll tell you.
20 satoshi per minute = 1200 satoshi per hour.
1200 satoshi per hour = 12000 satoshi in 10 hours.
10 hours without eating food or going to toilet.

What a nice job that is, less then 1$ for 10 hour shift  ;D

I was going to write a serious post about inequalities in society and the daily strife for many people, but it would have turned into a combative post itself with no real gain.
Instead I'll just say this.
It's nice to see that so many people are so well off that they can consider it a waste of time, not everyone is so fortunate.
And some people actually consider this a nice low-intensity hobby that allows you to engage in various crypto-related activities for free.
It's always far easier to trash something than to build something up, please don't forget about the less fortunate and those who actually like fauceting.

Just because claiming from faucets isn't a get rich quick scheme, it doesn't mean they are inherently bad.
Faucet rewards are usually proportional to the fiat world and always has been, it doesn't matter if it says 10 or 10000 as long as purchasing power is preserved.

Nicely put mate! This is where i have started everything, in fact faucets were the one that introduced me to Bitcoin world. Since i have been here long enough, i see more people coming here and saying negative things about faucets or trying to be funny by insulting those who use faucets. I keep sharing a picture from early days of faucets where websites used to pay 5btc for each claim. I personally remember claiming over 2k satoshi every 15 min from countless of faucets. Of course, the price of 1 btc was a different story in that day. Some people like using faucets, some expect even more price increase in the future so they make a long term investment, or perhaps some people simply needs it as you mentioned it. We should be more careful and respect others."

What you say about is just your own opinion and is not helpful for other people because "wasted time" is not the same for different people.

For my "kind of faucet" users it is not waste of time.
They are enough "big" to know it by themsefves if it is or not.
My members fix the earning themselves and it works perfectly since October 2015
If an earning is market regulated, you can not say it is waste of time.
You can just say it is exactly worth the time for my members.

Exactly. Some say it's a waste of time but it's something you can do in front of the TV which you'd be doing anyway, just not earning any free bitcoins.

In my opinion faucets are mostly waste of time. I can understand people who use them tho - an additional income is better than none, right? However, in my opinion there is so much things to do, like creating your own site and putting ads on it, but people don't want to take effort. And that's fine. Everyone does what he likes and it's right.

Faucet rewards are usually proportional to the fiat world and always has been, it doesn't matter if it says 10 or 10000 as long as purchasing power is preserved.
It does matter for fee.
Do calculation and ask yourself - "how many times do I need to claim from faucet to pay fee if reward is 10 satoshi"
10000 satoshi reward - 1 claim, 10 satoshi reward - 1000 claims which is huge difference.
Other things - keyloger(you can lose more than you think and not only faucet earnings), higher electricity bill (browser mining is very popular) and all other things from shorena's pinned post.

Can they pay monthly internet bill if they do only faucets? I know I can't.

So there you go, I gave you 4 facts(bolded) why faucets are waste of time.

Don't get me wrong, i was faucet user and I realized it is waste of time. If these facts don't bother you think about your social life or you will be sitting whole life behind monitor and you will be clicking until your eyes go bloody red because of few bucks.

Computers and cell phones are On all day long on many cases... People don't set it on just to claim on faucets. They use it for different activites and meanwhile, when there is some free time they claim some satoshis and accumulate it.

And if you use only real good faucets you won't waste your time at all... You will spend few seconds every hour with the chance to earn hundreds of Dollars in BTC or Doge (FreeBitco.in and FreeDoge.co.in faucets).

Asking today if faucet's income pay electricity bill makes faucets look really bad. But if you just accumulate your earnings I'm sure these satoshis will be very able not only to pay electricity bill, but to buy even more expensive items (who knows a house?).  :D

Why do you talk about electricity fees?
My computer is "on" all the day.
Most of electricity use is spent in heat like a TV or the ligh of my aquariums.
Ok it cost in summer, but when it is not hot all this electricity warms up my home and costs the same than my electric heaters.

Now...time spent for claiming on faucets:
I can claim watching TV or lissening the radio.
How much I earn does not realy matter because I give back the few satoshi I claim for my U2 members who claim on my site.
None can go against:
So far I can give more reward, even if it is not much, than other faucets,my U2 will have claimers...it is so and one can not go against the market.

Follow my U2 site and you will exactly know for how much in average people claim...

It is why I propose to my visitors and members to accept or not the CPU miner and to chose the level.
They can see how much they have earned and how much other people have earned.
I find the concept great if it is honnestly proposed and if visitors can choose how use it or not.

It's not a virus...it's taken for a virus...this is not the same.
Test my miner...you will see that is not taken as virus, because you have the choice.

About the captcha:
I have as well find a new concetp:
A code on a page...and I use this page to inform members about news...so if they claim, they have read the news...

Computers and cell phones are On all day long on many cases
They are on but not on sites which are using hidden browser mining. You don't see that as unnecessary electricity cost? Not to mention all adds are eating CPU power and it spends electricity.
People don't set it on just to claim on faucets. They use it for different activites and meanwhile, when there is some free time they claim some satoshis and accumulate it.
What can you possible earn if you claim from faucets while you are waiting for something?
I'll rather wash dishes or take garbage out than claim from faucet, it is much more constructive than claiming 15 satoshi from faucet.
And if you use only real good faucets you won't waste your time at all... You will spend few seconds every hour with the chance to earn hundreds of Dollars in BTC or Doge (FreeBitco.in and FreeDoge.co.in faucets).
Don't be naive.
How many times have you won 200$ from both sites? Or just one? How many users have won 200$?
I'll tell you how many times I did in last year and a half - 0 times.
What you could earn and what you are  earning are different things.
Asking today if faucet's income pay electricity bill makes faucets look really bad.
Can you cover your internet and electricity bill with faucets? You know, they are cheapest bills in most countries. Can you cover at least one?
If you can't cover at least one bill every month it is waste of time, if you need to spend 8 hours every day to cover only one bill it is waste of time.
but to buy even more expensive items (who knows a house?).  :D
Only if you are one of the early bitcoin supporters when faucets were paying lots of bitcoins(not dollars) and you didn't spend any of them.
This is probably a joke, do you realize how much bitcoin has to worth for someone to buy a house just from faucets?

Follow my U2 site and you will exactly know for how much in average people claim...
I don't want to discuss with you about this topic because you are faucet owner and you have to write only positive comments to promote your site, but I will ask you this:

How much money can I earn from your faucet in one day and how much time i have to spend to earn that money?

To use faucets you don't need to use sites with hidden browser mining feature. I think you didn't understand... There are people who have their computers On all day long for another reasons, not to mine Bitcoins or to use faucets necessarily (at work is a common example or even at home).

Apples and oranges, having computer ON all day long is not the same thing as using computer for faucets. It is bad example because if you are using it for work then it pays your bills, food, clothes etc, so why would you waste time to collect 15-20 satoshi if you are working for real money? Isn't that purpose of faucets, to earn free bitcoins?
Btw, how do you know that faucets are not mining monero using their users CPU? Do you check task manager each time when you visit them? They can use for example 50-60% of your CPU power and you won't even realize it.
People don't set it on just to claim on faucets. They use it for different activites and meanwhile, when there is some free time they claim some satoshis and accumulate it.

Lol, Some years ago there were people talking like you about faucets and now I'm sure many of them regret about not claiming 400-8000 satoshis from faucets on those days...
As I said I was faucet user and I remember times when you could claim 400-8000 or even more satoshi from faucets. Even then it was waste of time.
Imagine if you haven't ate pizza and beer for 10$ and you bought bitcoins worth 10$ when bitcoin price was 300$ now you could have 230$. Isn't that much better than claiming from faucets? Comparing time and effort - buying bitcoins for 10$ - few minutes, claiming from faucet - a month? Nothing has changed in my opinion.

And if you use only real good faucets you won't waste your time at all... You will spend few seconds every hour with the chance to earn hundreds of Dollars in BTC or Doge (FreeBitco.in and FreeDoge.co.in faucets).

Time and effort, you know? I had the same opinion on both sites and I decided not to use them any more. 550+ days claiming from faucets, never won 200$ and even if win 200$ it would be 200$/550days=0.36 cents/day of my time.

Asking today if faucet's income pay electricity bill makes faucets look really bad.
Can you cover your internet and electricity bill with faucets? You know, they are cheapest bills in most countries. Can you cover at least one?

In my opinion faucets are mostly waste of time. I can understand people who use them tho - an additional income is better than none, right? However, in my opinion there is so much things to do, like creating your own site and putting ads on it, but people don't want to take effort. And that's fine. Everyone does what he likes and it's right.

I agree that creating your own site etc is going to earn you more in the long run but a lot of people don't have the technical know-how to do this. That's another benefit of faucets - they're so easy to use anyone can do it and as they get more confident they're going to start using bitcoin more which can only be a good thing.
People need to understand that you're not going to make you're millions from faucets, but you can pick up a few dollars/pounds in coins if you use the right faucets and strategy. As long as people go in it knowing this then I can only see faucets as a good thing.
I agree with other posters about the browser mining situation - visitors must give consent for this otherwise it's going to put loads of people off. Out of principle I instantly click away from sites that automatically start mining.
