everyone selled their altcoin and buys bitcoin because they want to win a bitcoingold on October 25th.

Blockfolio only has bitcoin price at a high of 4929 dollars today. So it did not break the 5000 dollar mark , however i really think its going to soar closer to the end of the month due to the fork. My prediction is we will see a 6000 dollar or 7000 dollar high by month end  8)

Alt coins will pop, you just have to be patient during this time.

What does everyone here base their valuations on? People just throw out stuff like "soon 10,000" or "I think they should be 50,000 each", but very few seem to give a reasoning for it. What kind of approach are you guys using?

If you ask me its worth even more.But now it is trading for 5k.In the next 5-6 months, it will be 10k.Altcoins also increase in price, ethereum will be the biggest among all altcoins.It will be 1k in the next 10-12 months.

Price is definitely going to rise, it's just that the market is in the mindset to keep it under $5,000 for some reason. It seems that the recent events with China and JP Morgan are wearing off and the price is rising but we keep bouncing off the ceiling of $5,000- once we break that point through, sellers will understand they can sell higher, and I think that we won't stay in $5,000 very long, pushing $6-7K.

Bitcoin will worth $5000 when everyone believes it worth $5000. This question has been ask many times in the past when it was from $.01 cent. I believe it will worth a lot more in few years.

Bitcoin price may be $ 5000 or more and. One day it will come true. There is no solid base for this so Altcoin will come down except some front line coin like ethrum.

If Bitcoin gets up to that amount then there would be a bunch of altcoins selling their coins because they people that have those coins will want to have more Bitcoin.

Bitcoin has great potentials to hit 5k and beyond however, altcoins will only suffer temporary drop in price and after the bitcoin rally relaxes then most altcoins will soar.

I don't think like you, bitcoin will still be the head of the market even though its price is affected a bit. But for me Bitcoin gold was not enough to beat Bitcoin. On that day, the price of the whole market will go down as they are indirectly affected by the BTC

I think somewhere there is a similar thread like this. People are selling their altcoins for Bitcoins in order to get the Bitcoin gold which is the alt coin for the upcoming fork. If bitcoin will reach or somehow surpassed the $5000 mark, I think Altcoin's price will drop more and we don't have anything to do with that but to wait and wait until the price of altcoins will recover.

Yeah. Bitcoingold and different rumors and news can be the reason for current fluctuations but Bitcoin itself has the potential to reach $5000 and will stay there.

Altcoins are too dependent to bitcoin price. But we don't know the future of bitcoingold, though it may perform as good as bitcoincash, still it would be beneficial to buy altcoins that can show better growth in long term.

It's a great time to buy altcoins if you are holding some bitcoins. As we are seeing a relative decrease in price of altcoins which would reverse after the issue of bitcoingold.

I'm sure that bitcoin will reach $5000.00 and most likely will go over it before 2017. Well for altcoins the price is cheap right now since people knows that there will be a hardfork and of course there will be a profit for the bitcoin gold. Its very possible to reach $5000 dollar, as it surpassed already the $4500 mark the previous month. Actually the news I read that its $10,000 dollar or some are saying the $6,000 dollar price before the year ends. Whatever the  value, all I know is that its increasing. :)

yes bitcoin can reach $5000 but not until this october because the fork is coming and i think people still hold their bitcoin to see if they can get btgold for free like bcc yesterday or not. and i think bitcoin price will be around at now price and if there is any down or up, it will not too deep because everyone is waiting the next thing that will happen. but after the fork, i think the price will start to increase and for now, it will be good chance for altcoin to increase because people selling their altcoin to get bitcoin and prepare for btgold.

Bitcoin reaching to $5000 is not impossible. Bitcoin is constantly growing and with the hardfork just around the corner, there is a huge possibility that bitcoin can even surpass such value by the time it pumps. Altcoins, on the other hand, will be having a hard time to recover but it surely will. Although, there will be some that won't be that affected. For now, with the bitcoin gold buzz and the altcoins on a down low, i guess it is good to keep some altcoins with you and keep them for a while or until its value pumps.

Its all about getting free bitcoin gold on actober 25 so everyone converting altcoins into bitcoin . Now its the right time to grab some good altcoins may the worth more than Bitcoingold after fork . Most of the millionaires in crypto world because of altcoins not because of bitcoin.

Yes I think the price will reach 5000 $ at the end of this month and will fall back on $ 4800.

Again, don't be too excited. We need patience before seeing the price go to the moon. That is one characteristics that you really needed when you are into the crypto world. Bitcoin is moving close to  the speculation of $7000 at the end of the year,let watch and see as development unfold,But over the years have observe that between November and December  price tends to  crash due to high dumping rate as everyone need fiat for holiday. Its tends to  pick up in February  of the preceding year.

Really it's unbelievable because today Bitcoin cross $5133 per coin.Now all Bitcoin holder got huge profit through BTC and also me some profit on Bitcoin.Bitcoin will be hit worth of $5000 in December i think.

btc will most likely drop after the fork, the main question is how low will it go and how fast will it rebound. and this is the second fork, hence the market might respond differently.

The habit is when the Bitcoin's price is up, altcoin's price would be down and vice versa. On some scenarios, even though Bitcoin's price was up. Altcoin's price still going up as well, like ICONOMI and MONACO a month ago. It depends on the recent updates of the team of those coins so make sure to check them.

Bitcoin will reach $5000 because it stayed at 4000$ mark  despite the bans from china, south korea and russia. If the experts are saying it will rise, well maybe i will hold on to their  crypto technical prowess. People are raising awareness on Bitcoin and even if they don't fully understand it they will try to buy because they know its value is appreciating. Bitcoin is a "rising tide" that raises all ships according to a blockchain consultant so let's see in the next 3 years.

Well looks like bitcoin has maintained its above $5000 pricing. I think we'll see $6000-$7000 by the end of the year with a dip back to around $4500.

Luckily it's now worth $5,000 and keeps on moving forward and trying to break $5,500 ceiling.

Well, the good news is that the total market cap of cryptocurrencies has risen about 10 billion, from 150 to 160 billion this month. Price of bitcoin was already $5000 I believe that this coming months bitcoin will raised up more. As per news I heard Russian country was opened for the new opportunity given by crypto currency. Maybe sooner or later bitcoin was increase more due to good connection of this coin into different countries.

Good for you that you hold bitcoins for such a long time. Bitcoin will increase too high before the hard fork begin because its too obvious people learned too much from what had happen last fork on 1st of August, look the price of BCH, now this will happen again for another kind  of bitcoin the bitcoin gold and it will be a good profit investing on it.

When will altcoins increase?

The price of bitcoin has risen too fast from $3,000 few days ago. I dont think it can stay at this price for too long. It will rise beyond this price in the long run but will fall down soon in the short term. I hate how it is taking all the altcoins price down.

It's a good time to get in to alt coins that you missed at a good price, or those that you would like to have larger amount of your portfolio in. You'll need to hold them and wait for BTC to go sideways though

This is what Im thinking bitcoin surge to $5000 and hold bitcoin for the upcoming hard fork. And I think same will happen in the bitcoin cash others wanted to have bitcoingold. Yes after hard fork price will suddenly fall down but I believe it will recover.

Most of the altcoins right now are really bleeding. This is the direct effect of Bitcoin very bullish. Finally, bitcoin successfully broke the $5000 resistance. But on the other hand, the altcoins are receiving the negative effect. My portfolio has red all over it but my entire portfolio's value is increasing because of Bitcoin's aggressive increase in price.

I just checked, and it was $5400+.  I can't help to think that some of this is being caused by the upcoming fork.  It'll be interesting to watch and see if people start dumping not too long after the split, causing the price to plummet.

Most of the price rising is due to the upcoming forks. It's bad for altcoins short-term but in the long run some of that money will transfer over to altcoins. Alt coins should see a nice pump after the second fork is over.

altcoin is obliged to be patient because bitcoin will face a big party, I think btc will be able to add 2 times from the previous price range of $ 4000. Everyone has dreamed of getting Bitcoingold for free without ever thinking that hardfork can also fail in improving system. I also included a happy person ahead of the second hardfork and sold almost half the altcoin I had just for btc.

I'm considering dumping some money into the alts while they are down then buying bitcoin after the fork.  I need to get on the right side of the cycle.

Here is mt strategy;

I already sold earlier today 60% of my altcoins position. I will buy back 40% of them just before the fork, since I believe they will have dropped in price.  Right after the fork, I will sell enough bitcoins and bitcoins gold to buy back the remaining 60%.

Though the head of an altcoin whose volume recorded a spike at the same time differs, many people have been panic selling their altcoins for Bitcoin reportedly for the Bitcoin Gold and Segwit2x forks.

It is worth $5000 now. I never have any doubt about this new hype technology. The place to grow is still very big. In the end of this year maybe we will see $10000 worth each bitcoin. After that maybe down for 1-2 years then rally again.

That is the better idea because already many people are converting their altcoins to Bitcoin of Bitcoin Gold. I don't know exactly how far Bitcoin gold will help for us to buy more altcoins if the price Bitcoin gold increases.

Fund has started flowing from bitcoin to altcoins market  since last night and many coins have been pumping since yesterday. I have seen ethereum and others coins started appreciating in price since yesterday and this is happen because people have started taking profits from bitcoin all time high of $5875. Corrections is under way and bitcoin will fall a little bit further before another serious bullish momentum. 

BTC should be part of any portfolio, even if this growth is a rush for Bitcoin Gold, you can't ignore the dominance of BTC, at least for now.

It may hit $7000 mark after the segwit and $10k by January. not seeing any reason for the price to go down after an increase. especially if the segwit and the fork don't harm it. It already proved a lot that the system is working and is impossible to be cheated and is gaining trust from more people. Demand for the coin is increasing.

No not soon and I think it will take some time now to reach to that price as we got very close to the price of $6k yesterday and everyone thought that its end of wait but price started to move in positive direction and I have a gut feeling that price will go below $5k in coming days so keeping fingers crossed I will wait and watch where price goes in next few days and depending on that I will make a right move.

This is nothing new regarding bitcoin to decrease little bit in value because every time bitcoin dumps little bit, it increases tremendously in value. I am pretty sure and I put my bucks on this that bitcoin is going to go beyond 6000 dollars.

I think for any concurrency (or anything like gold stocks, bonds, credit swap derivatives etc) people forget there are only 2 things that matter there are only 2 things that effect what something is worth.. its supply and demand

If something has a limited supply and a decent demand that dictates its price, regardless what it is. Saying something has some "intrinsic value" you forget anything and everything pretty much has a price dictated by supply and demand.

Because demand and supply has priced Bitcoin at well today $6000 I think today its worth $6000 that's just how market pricing give things a price therefore a value.

Bitcoin has reached to over $6000 now meanwhite Altcoins has gone down few days ago. I think maybe in next month altcoins price will recover, and Bitcoin price will fall slightly.

Bitcoin will never be 5000$ again :D

And now its price is over 6000 dollars and all time growing. But it will stop on 25 october and go back. Then all altcoin price will grow up and give us profit

All altcoins will fall down. All people will sell altcoins to buy Bitcoin. So, selling all your asset to buy Bitcoin now. As soon as possible. :D

Bitcoin has a chance to grow to a five-digit amount even next year, just to see how popularizing was something to say in "normal, typical" world and it has been happening this year.

Everytime Bitcoin is going to fly so high, the altcoins will suffer. That is the trend in the crypto world. When Bitcoin was breaking its highest peaks one after another, the altcoins are also dipping down in value one time and again. Altcoins will fly high when Bitcoin dips just a little or if its movements are generally sideways. Dipping too much for Bitcoin will also somehow cause some trouble in the altcoins' prices.

Dependence in the price is not, so my assumption is that there will be about 1k this on the air the most reliable. On the rest it's hard to say, but the demand for them will then definitely increase and hence the price.

The spring was strong growth in altcoins than BTC. Now the price seems to be in dollars saved but most of the coins were dropped against BTC at 80 percent. He took part altcoins then and now feel very greatly subsided portfolio in BTC.

Bitcoins continue to rise. As of now 10000 USD, so it was a very impressive. Becuase bitcoin was now very popular in the business industry. And also usefull to purchase to  many stores.

Altcoins depends on bitcoin. Higher bitcoin cause lower price in satoshi for altcoin, but higher in dollar

Quite possible it was less than 2000 just 1 year ago. It can fall back. But the issue is mining will not be enough profitable for miners when it is around 5k usd. That is why i dont thing even it falls, they wont let it to stay there for so long.

A few months later, and again the level of 5000 dollars has begun to be spoken. Yet it seems to be early to think 5000 dollars. You will see as many resistance as you level it.
It may take a lot of time to recoil if it drops to 5,000 dollars.

which exchange are you using t see these prices, preev rate clearly shows we are atleast above 11000 dollars which isnt bad considering people reacted immediately after receiving the bad news, expect this to improve next month when regulations are more clear to us.

I think that it is impossible scenario for BTC to get down to 2k$. At least for now. If so - Then miners will switch to BCC.
But if remember 2013 when BTC fell down to 100$ - there is nothing impossible in crypto  ;D

i think they wont let it fall below 10k, but if it does then 8k is probably the max fall of btc, it can't stay there for long time because of miners...

Novogratz’s take in an interview with CNBC that Bitcoin could touch the $10,000 price mark between now and August 2018 did not come as a surprise.

He says:

“The one thing I’ve realized recently is I can hear the herd coming. I was just in San Francisco with a few big institution investors, they are still a ways away but they are coming. Lots of funds are being raised. I’m pretty confident to say it is going higher. You know, the hard part of this mania - I think this would be a real mania - is we have to have a lot of imagination on where things could go. So often we set ourselves our own limitation by putting a price level on it. It would not surprise me if in the next six to ten months, we are over $10000.”
