Title: Its that time again, what altcoin are you holding at a loss?
Post by: pinkflower on October 13, 2017, 03:46:37 AM
The only altcoin I am holding is Burst and I will keep holding no matter how low the price goes. Nothing hurts more than seeing your coin go down in market value. I was tempted to sell but I believe in the Proof of Capacity Consortium's ability to deliver some good for Burst that I have decided to buy more.

What about you, what altcoin are you loyally holding and why?

PIVX, which is surprisingly immune to how most alts go down if BTC goes up.

That's absolutely true man. It does feel bad when you see your coin go down but its crypto, if it goes down it means it will rise soon.
I am currently holding DGB which is the most affected by the fork. You can see it has gone down to 170 satoshis which is like a blood bath for it.
I bought it at 500 satoshis thinking it will rise soon but you see what has happened to it now. People are saying it will go lower than 100 satoshis and that's when i am thinking to buy it more. It does have a lot of potential and it can give a good return after the fork.

i sold everything i owned, every single altcoin. i was holding a couple more that i sold last night at a small loss. in total i have not lost anything though because they were still in profit anyways so the loss was covered by the previous profit making it negligible.

at times like this it is always best to stay out of altcoin market until they bottom out. the worst thing i fear is panic sells specially in the top altcoins.

also as @bathrobehero said i have had my eye on PIVX for some time, i don't hold any though. i am expecting a big rally out of it, that is why i am watching it. i am waiting for a dip or something to get in ::)

Bitcoin Cash. I bought Bitcoin cash when it's around 900$ , I lost almost 60%. It's very sad, I bought at the peak of price. Because of the hype before that Bitcoin cash will be the next Bitcoin or the real bitcoin. Now I'm very lost, Bitcoin cash is the most altcoin that I have big lost.

The altcoins I hold, even with loss :
 - XZC : ZCoin
Why : because it is the best anonyme coin and the market want a anonymous coin
 - LBC : Lbry coin
Why : because the library project is a very universal project and very helpfull for people all around the world
 - MNM and ARTE : Minereum and Artemine
Why : because they are the firsts and only coins whit a lot of promising features : self mining, altcoins builders, ICO builders...

Clam is 60% down. Unbelievable! From $12 to $4, within couple of hours, now holding on $5 to $6. But the way it drops, it scares me about alt coin. In future you have to think before you invest. I believe in next few days more alt coin will fall to bottom.

For me its Reddcoin and NEO, I bought them when they were really hyped. I don't think I'll get back my investment from REDD so I'm investing more on NEO to bring down my average buying price.

"It does have a lot of potential and it can give a good return after the fork." I'm really looking forward to this mate, I was expecting DGB to go up to atleast 750 when I bought it. Its heartbreaking to see it go down. I'm thinking of selling it to lessen the loss. But then your post makes me think otherwise. :) BTS is also in my portfolio, which like DGB it's also going down, however reviews about it says its the altcoin that has the potential to go up in the future.

To be frankly, almost all of my altcoins that I hold is dropping so hard, and it's mainly because the HF of bitcoin that soon to be coming and the price pump for bitcoin
just like as you said, it's hurt to see the altcoins we hold dropping down, but lets see after HF ended, all altcoin will be pumped again.

that is why Stop-Loss was invented :D

you either use some kind of automation to place stop loss orders or you just do it yourself when you reach your limit. for example if the altcoin you have invested in loses 5% you dump it before it grows bigger. that way you prevent huge losses like 60% that someone mentioned above!

I'm holding quite a few Gridcoin at a loss currently, it isn't that bad, but I'm just going to wait a bit till they get a bit higher again.
The altcoin market in general is looking a lot less attractive than the Bitcoin market at the moment.

I'm probably going to sell most of my altcoins before the fork happens anyway.

You are quite right. I am not an speculator, I am in for the long term and only buy ALTs that I consider have a viable project and value proposition, but if it goes down 10 or 15% it is not a bad idea to sell and buy later on.

I still hold all my altcoin portfolio (8 coins). It doesn't have sense to sell them now when they are very low. I would be in the minus.
I am sure that better days will come for altcoins. So I just HODL.

I'm holding ETH right now because i believe the Ethereum price can back to 0.1btc but it's really sucks right now. ETH price keep going down, especially the bitcoin price keep going up and makes eth price fall and fall again. Don't know why Ethereum price always decrease when bitcoin price increase.

A small amount of BQX bought @ 0.75 cents.  Will hold until the end of next year and make a decision then if nothing's happened.  Will only sell @ 5X or above.

Everything else I've bought since beginning last month is in the green.  BTC up huge.  ETH just a touch.  NEO 30%.

Looking good!

ALL of them, unfortunately. I guess the worst for me at the moment is WAVES, since I bought a 3 digit figure at 95k satoshi, thinking it was an amazing deal. In fact, within days it had gone to 125k again and I was so pleased with myself. You can imagine my shock this morning seeing that it was exactly 70k. From a 30% potential gain to almost 30% loss in just over a week.

Anyway, I understand the fiat value has not changed too much, but I bought it all in Bitcoin. In total, this week alone, my Bitcoin value of all alts has dropped more than 30%. Heartbreaking, considering how much it costs now.

I do not get rid of altcoins, such as Stratis Eth Neo Edg Blizard. if they fall by half, then they will necessarily grow tenfold, in which case there should be steel nerves and do not need to tear the hair on the head. it's a market, and it has its own rules.  8)

I am surprised that radium coin could be dropped so hard. Crypto currency can raise your bp if you are heavily invested. This free market is double edged sword. When it swing in direction of profit, you make a good killing that can not be made on any other platform. And when the other side of sword is swinging, there may be a lot and lots of blood.

I am holding Byteball at a loss. I think it has a very nice and alternative technology and one of the best thought wallets out there. I may have to wait years, but I'm positive one day it will eventually rise.
And I'm also holding Bancor at a loss. Great future for BNT in the future in my view.

I am holding onto my XVG even though it has dropped from my entry point of 150 sat to under 100 today. I even purchased some more last night at 100 sat.

Also holding onto my ARK and although it hasn't crashed as badly as some other altcoins, I'll be waiting to pick up some more if the price drops significantly.

I should add that I'm a long-term hodler so I don't mind taking hits in the short-term. I'm looking to invest as much as possible over a variety of coins. Some are high risk with potentially huge rewards, others have solid tech which I think the market will appreciate within the next year or two.

Examples include: ARK, XVG, STRAT, XFC, XMR, XID, QRL

I'm not currently invested in all of those but if you invest a little each time there's a bloodbath then you can do well over the long-term as long as you can hold your nerve and your personal circumstances don't require you to cash out at a bad time.

Oddly enough this may not be an ALT coin that anyone would think.

Its ATS - authorship.

I really liked the white paper in the ICO and the concept. Truth is, authors will, as with music all go completely online. All it will take for ATS to really take off will be a bestselling author to publish their book with this company exclusively. So its a definite hold.

I bought into a lot of altcoins around July/August 2017 and unfortunately most of them are at a loss right now.  I bought:

XEM (up 25%)
OMG (up 20%)
LISK (up 148%)
STRAT (down 36%)
GNT (down 30%)
FCT (down 19%)
SIA (down 51%)
DGB (down 43%)
VIA (down 35%)
SIGT (down 75%)

Even worse is that the Bitcoin that I traded so I could buy these altcoins would have nearly doubled in value since I traded it.  Fortunately though, most of the altcoins above that were in the red were a small portion of my portfolio even at the time I bought them and the green ones I made a heavier initial investment into.  Further, I've always held a the majority of my coins into BTC (65%) so my altcoin portfolio is much smaller and diversified (Eth makes up about 65% of my altcoin portfolio) so i'm in good shape.

The biggest bummer was Sigt.  I was pumped for that coin.  I mined and bought a bit at around $0.07.  I think its actively being developed so I haven't given up on it.

I'm thinking about getting involved with DeepOnion.  I've read up on it and it seems like a promising privacy-oriented altcoin.  I think DO will become one of my wiser investments!

some altcoins require you to hold them for years and years before they are worth anything. Others like ETH become worth a lot within a year.

Bitcoin took a long time for it to be worth what it is now.

remember that! If you think an altcoin has good value and will deliver good things that peopl eneed and or want then you should hold it for years.

Stratis. This coin was truly overhyped. Even the coin being listed on Binance didn't help it rise.

One thing though guys. Expect a HUGE rise in altcoins after the hardfork. Also A LOT of people have invested in bitconnect so they will splash around their interest dollars.

What about you, what altcoin are you loyally holding and why?

some altcoins require you to hold them for years and years before they are worth anything.

Thats true and thats what I think of Burst. But PoCC developer rico666 really trusts that it will jump to BTC.00001 by December of this year. He also claims (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1513328.msg22166453#msg22166453) that it wont be for the same reason that most would think.

I tried to ask some more information on what he knows but he didnt reply.

Ahh it kind of hurts i love the part of btc increasing because no matter what my 50% of the portfolio will always be btc but the remaining 50% get's screwed up one way or another. First loss is cvc bought at 95 sold at 106 and then re bought at 90. Second loss is kmd thought it would rise because of the new changes but completely opposite happened. Last coin would be xmr i sold at $150 but decided to rebuy at $100 i am aware it will increase in future but for now these are my main losses.

I'm still in the profit area, and quite a bit as I've been holding these for a while. But I'm hoping my coins will go 5x before summer 2018 so I don't have to worry about my future studies  ;D

that is why Stop-Loss was invented :D

you either use some kind of automation to place stop loss orders or you just do it yourself when you reach your limit. for example if the altcoin you have invested in loses 5% you dump it before it grows bigger. that way you prevent huge losses like 60% that someone mentioned above!
Some people actually always do the long term trading and try to buy more at more dips but this one was just pretty too fast and crazy.
I made the same mistake too, bought some at dips, never used the stop loss and set a sell order, until the whole altcoin started crashing down really bad. It was very hard at first to take the decision but man! A man gotta do what he has to do. ;D

I currently have a 60% loss on my ARK investment. Not sure why this project is failing but it's my biggest loss atm.
Waves, SMN, and Ox also have taken so hits as of late. I'll keep holding them, as long as they keep developing. My first rule is to only buy with what you can lose.

Yup unfortunately those days came again... probably too fast and too often for last couple of times...

Currently, at loss I’m holding: Waves, Iconomi and Storj. But I believe in them long term, so I don’t want to lose too many nerves with those price drops, because long term, they should go up multiple times!

I am currently holding CCT and don't plan to sell until after the fork hoping it would go back up again.

What really pains me though is that it's the first coin I have invested in and I am already at a loss. I initially plan to buy more of it a few weeks before the coming fork but decided against and thought to just get back to btc.

Seriously, they cant fall forever and BTC's boost in price cant keep going. It will plateau at the top and that will be the best time for some of the altcoins to catch up and try to equal BTC's % increase.

Until now, I believe only with XMR. I have nothing to lose with this coin because I get from trading profit. I decide to loyal and always buy XMR because I believe this coin will survive like ETH, see their price action history and also volume will give you reason why you should do that?. Still has supply, demand ( trust ) and and also stable price action will become a good sign to replace our money into it. Just buy/ hold/ sell something you know and face the risk. Thank you.

if you are holding any altcoin before the BTC surge from 4k, then all of them are at a loss now
so it is wise to hold alt with good fundamental, coz you wont be worried about them not able to recover.
of course the best thing would be selling them, then buying them now (but nobody is so perfect in timing)
:)

All my coins now are actually dipping in their value. Well, except bitcoin. But this is a normal market reaction since crypto investors and traders are shifting to bitcoin to make a fast and easy profit because of the bullish market for bitcoin right now. When this clears out, the same people will definitely go back to altcoins.

i still hold many altcoin especially altcoin with cheap price and i don't want to sell now and maybe i will considering to sell in the next year. because in this year, so many altcoin is going down and although i can earn profit, my profit is not much and this is why i can hold until a long term. i still believe in doge, verge, rdd, burst, dgb, and more altcoin that can bring a nice profit in future and once the price is increase too high then in that time i can sell for a half to take my bitcoin back and take the good profit.

Since i am just new here, haven't received any altcoins as payment of the campaigns that i participated but i have couple of different altcoins that i received from an airdrop. I have converter the others into BTC already and i have this one altcoin that seems so precious to me and that's eBTC. Yeah, it really hurts to see its value to plummet even if i only got this for free and its market value never go up again. And so idecided to HODL it no matter what.

I bought some DGBs at 2000 sats. Damn, I need to be very patient until it climbs back up 😁
