Newbie here and I would like to know where is the best place to store our btc during the upcoming hardfork where we can receive bitcoin gold as well.

How will be receive some tokens during the split?

As long as the wallet give you control over the private keys (Exodus, Electrum etc.) then you should be fine. It's still unclear where you could get your Bitcoin Gold as we still didn't see any wallets for the new coin yet but when that happens, you could just import the keys there.

I'm still lost as to what wallets would support  Bitcoin Gold since not much has been said about its release, but personally, I'd go for any reputable exchange that supports the fork (which is none, so far) and the rest will go to my own personal wallet. I want to be one of the first who gets into the trading action when it goes live since it could be another pump and dump scheme created by another group of devs. Have it your way, but for extreme security, I recommend going for personal wallets (Electrum and the likes) that have full support for Bitcoin Gold.

I would think a Trezor or Ledger would best place to keep your Bitcoins. Surely these hardware wallets will give us the BTG.

The best wallet to receive your future Bitcoin gold is Bitcoin core.
With Bitcoin core you have your Bitcoin in the real Bitcoin blockchain and you have the pricate keys for these adddress.

But, be carrefull, we don't know when will be the blockchain snapshot for the hard fork : Bitcoin gold is a partially premine coin and the snapshot was perhaps yesterday or before.

Just use those wallet that provide you Private key for your wallet.I think its only the safe way to get new coin(hard fork).desktop wallet is a good choose for this. Electrum is one of them.

Wow. Way to belittle the attempt to scale and mature the Bitcoin blockchain!

If "another group of devs" wanted to create a pump and dump scheme they'd create an ICO on Ethereum and get a bunch of newbies here to spread their cheap gospel with promises of a fat bounty upon offering. Of course that would nothing but provide the pump to be dumped.

How about you have a bit more respect for what these Bitcoin hard forks represent, instead of trying to just profit personally off it. You sound like you work for one of those too big to fail banks!

I haven't heard any certain news yet on what exchangers and wallets supports BTCG so I guess we still need to wait for a few days and see if there will be announcements from these exchangers and wallet companies. I only have a few coins on my portfolio so I don't really give much attention to the fork that will happen soon but for those who have so much BTCs on their accounts hope this could be like the first fork where you got some BCC on your hands. It is always an awesome thing to have FREE MONEY  :D

Any wallet where you control your private key is best.

It is recommended to use a hardware wallet but if you don't have hardware wallet then software wallets like Jaxx, Exodus or Coinomi should be fine. I’m using Jaxx. The most important is that you have access to your private key. What I managed to find as information is that after the BTG fork your private key will be the same for both BTC and BTG.

Newbie also....if the snapshot for butch has already been taken does that mean we won’t receive new coin if we purchased btc after snapshot?

As long as you have full control over your private keys then you are 100% secured and sure that the place where you keep your savings is safe.

more web sites are availble for storing crypto currency. first you have to search in google and choose one of the best option for savings. next you have to keep that wallet. now a days more wallets are using transferring money so search in browser and choose one best wallet keep in that bit coins.

I searched the internets, it appears they haven't decided if Trezor will be supporting Bitcoin Gold.

The problem with Bitcoin Gold is that no wallets have agreed to support it. So while Bitcoin Gold may be allocated to every private key in existence, the wallets and exchanges need to provide a way for us to claim those coins.

He's referring to the point in time when the hard fork will occur, at that time the Bitcoin Gold folks (developers) will take a "snapshot" of the Bitcoin blockchain and then assign Bitcoin Gold to each private key address in an amount that equals the amount of Bitcoin held by that address.

This is what creates the allocation for the airdrop of Bitcoin Gold.

For me Coinomi wallet is my best shot.

You can use those wallets which can give you the Private key. Becuase Private key is very secure for any wallet. And you can use the desktop wallet for the harfork. Otherwise, you can use Bittrex for the hardfork. At the last harfork I hidden my Bitcoin on Bittrex and I got the BCC token.

So, does this mean that if you keep your BTC on exchange like Poloniex, you will NOT get Bitcoin Gold?

Wondering the same thing, I don't see why those exchanges would not give bitcoin gold with this hard fork, since they gave bitcoin cash for the btc I held during the last hard fork.

You need to control the private key for your bitcoin address.  That is the bottom line basically, so any wallet which allows that can be ok.   The exchanges are not giving you this control and you rely on that company maybe even just one person for integrity of your holdings.    In some cases the better sites, exchanges and various holders of BTC will stop to sort out some kind of allocation to alternate chains but its not a normal situation.

The simple advice I would state to use mycelium on a mobile phone, when you do that it allows you to backup the private key and then use that anywhere.  So you arent even then relying on mycellium for your btc address, its just a tool that has you with the private key.  Other situations you are using a login and someone else has the private key for your holdings.

Snapshot is taken of bitcoin blockchain which records the coin balances of all bitcoin accounts at the time it was taken.
This means that if you have X amounts of BTC at the time of snapshot, you would get the same X amounts in the forked coin.
I don't know the date when the Bitcoin Gold snapshot would be taken.

With recent bittrex announcement if you deposit their bitcoins there before the fork they will take a snapshot of all of the user's balances before 25th october. You will get 1:1 ratio which means 1 btg for 1 btc.

Yes.

The only exception is if the exchange as agreed to allocate the new coins to their users wallets. Exchanges would announce this intent before the hardfork. The only one I know of who's announced this intent is the Freebitco.in exchange.

Electrum gives me several private keys. How do I know which one to use?

 Every address that contains Bitcoin will also contain Bitcoin Gold.  You will need all non-empty private keys.
If you don't know what you are doing, it would be best not to do anything though as you may end up losing your Bitcoins.

How will one retrive the new coins after the fork,assume you qualify since you hold your private key.

I recommend a Ledger Nano from www.gotcryptowallet.com if you are thinking about securing your crypto.  It can hold other coins as well.

You should use separate wallets for BTC and bitcoin gold. shared can easily lead to confusion. If you go wrong, you have no way to get it back!

There are conceptually two broad categories of the wallets you are looking for.

1. Online wallets: In these wallets it needs you to connect to the internet and then save your stakes. However, you need to essentially keep your “private keys” secure to safeguard your hard earned BTC. A few to recommend would be Exodus, Electrum, Coinomi, Jaxx etc.

2. Offline wallets: On the other hand, in offline wallets, they are not just hardware wallets. Practically any wallet that never needs to connects to the internet to interact falls under this category. However, technically the moment you connect to the internet they no longer remain “Offline”. Here you just need to download the link and install it. A few to recommend would be Bitcoin Core, Bitcoin paper wallet, Ledger, Nano S, Trezor, Electrum, etc.

Now it is you who has to decide which one to choose. But generally as long as you can keep your private keys secure you could use either one.

For me, it  has been exchange wallets. Just be sure it is going to support it. No hassle at all.
I even didn't knew some of the forks were happening. And I have balances added every week.
