Title: Ethereum Byzantium hard fork LIVE
Post by: Marvell2 on October 16, 2017, 05:32:50 AM
https://blog.ethereum.org/2017/10/12/byzantium-hf-announcement/

damn those buggers 3 eth reward now instead of 5

15 sec block time I though they promised 12 :(

The promise profitability will go back to October rates so an increase of about 30% from what the difficulty bomb took from us, but that remains to be seen.

Personally I hope metaverse price keeps climbing so i can move my rigs to that.  Who is going to compensate us for 4 months of 30% less earnings

Hmm, we forked already!

I though it was tommorow  :P

Time to adjust those mining calculators boys.

Or maybe no need to, as the profitability won't rise much...

Pre-fork the block times were hovering around 25-30 seconds, so dropping down to 15 seconds per block is a definite improvement. Even with the block reward reduced, 3 ETH every 15 seconds is 12 ETH issued per minute, which is quite favorable to the little over 10 (5 every 25-30 sec) issued per minute before. Maybe not quite 30% increase promised, but then again we haven't seen a full days worth of blocks produced yet under the new rules to really get a feel for the true block-times.

OMG, we have huge block times with 3 ETH reward LOL

I see, though the block time would go down right after the fork....

Correct, it has already gone down a little and the blocks are being produced faster but it might take some time to get a true measure of the average speed. I just noticed that uncles are now almost the same reward as a full block reward too, so that should help some too.

yeah its quite funny now, we are basically mining uncles now  >:( >:(  , the really fucked us with the block reward reduction , I think it should have been 3.5 eth  not 3

will the difficulty drop is the big question ? I assumed that the diff increase was also due to the ice age as well.

btw uncle rate is still going to be the same , and uncles have always been around 3 eth so I dont see how that helps anything

Profit is profit..maybe once all the fork stuff settles we can see a reverse pattern in these stuff..! hope in a long run it will save us..2018 can be our year of profits as well.

Is the ice age delayed by 12 months or 18 months? Ultimately, I think that it will be more than 18 months before Casper (POS) will be implemented.

The difficulty will slowly adjust down, it is not instant.

The mining will be more profitable now and the price should rise over time because of the upgrade so we should be sitting with nice margins.

pools began to increase the profits slightly since the hard fork happened.
pools are calculating profits as average of last 24 hours, so we have to stay at least full day from the moment of the fork to calculate what approximately the increase of profit.

The difficulty at block 4369999 was 2997.274 T.

The difficulty of block 4370224 (mined just a few minutes before I typed this) is 2634.238 T.

So the difficulty is already going down noticeably and the fork only happened about 90 minutes ago. By tomorrow we should see more clearly where it will settle, and as was mentioned above the pools should have better profitability estimates by then as well.

Yeah I noticed the difficulty is dropping as well down 8% since the fork , so looks like I was correct

If we have a nice difficulty adjustment as well as a block time reduction they might be right in saying profitability could will be back to where it was around august/sept

hold on to your hats folks

I did not touch anything.... 15 hours ago Many Many  ethermine pool switches happened , failovers, current hashrate divided by 2, very high rejected and stale shares... on my 7 rigs... I'm using eu1.ethermine.org  on port 14444 and 4444

Need help atm

Hash rate on eth solo pool dropped from 3 TH to 2.4 just now

I think some rigs are failing,  is there a new DAG too ?  This might explain the difficulty drop  >:(

The reward dropped from 5 to 3 and the difficulty dropped from 3 to 2.1, so you miners lost 40% on the reward and gained 25% on the difficulty, block times from 30 to 15 seconds is related to the difficulty. Many trolls said with this update, you would be earning more money, which is not true as it stands. So meaning, you stupid miners are earning 15% less money with this update, correct me if I'm wrong or missed something.

Super excited about this at the moment.. even though my profit estimations dont seem to had jumped much.. but i slowly see higher profit estimated by ethermine.

Lets hope you guys are right, and by tomorrow i will see the real results from this hardfork.  :)

Mining calculators have still not been updated difficulty is down around 30%
but the blocktimes are still high.

Shares are the same for me, I went from a 2 day expected payout time on eth solo pool to 6 hours
overnight but the payout calcs did not move much, I have a feeling things will not change much

Likely there were a bunch of miners that had failed to upgrade and got booted of the network. I can see the network hash rate dropping. This is to be expected. However, what it means for miners that did upgrade is that it will be easier for them to mine whilst the rest of the miners get their act together. So I am not surprised you haven't see much change in your income.
Block time is coming down now too (it isn't instantaneous) so that will give you a short term boost until the other miners get their act together.
In the end, you shouldn't expect to see much of a change in how much you earn.

I'm happy mining XMR at the moment. Looks like I won't be switching (back) to ETH any time soon.

Also it looks like the difficulty is going down, I guess we will find out in few hours to what levels. When I saw was at 2.1, now at 1.7. From 3.0 to all the way to 1.75, that is around 40%, right now eth profit is the same as yesterday.

I have a Sapphire RX570 Nitro 8GB. and i get 29.8 mhs eth , dont dual mine though but dual mine  with dcri 25 I saw 29.6 mhs and 800 dcr  150 watt total was too high for me, solo eth is 130 watt

yeah i switched my nvidia rigs to eth from Zcash for now to take advantage of the  lower diff

currently haave 5 six card 1070 rigs each card 29 mhs eth and 40 mhs LBR  its more profitable than Zcash atm

I don't get any memory errors in hwinfo. Temp is 60-65°C. On the other side, my power draw seems to be a little hight. Saw some that had 130-140w per card in dual mining (if true...) I am at 165W per card and have free electricity. system is running stable, it is running for weeks without any issue.

I took the bios mod from buriedone : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uiPCwJV_ryM

But with his MSI afterburner values my cards crashed.

My claymore config : 1230/2215 920/920

Metropolis Byzantium go live on October 9th (not a final date, subject to change)

My stale shares % also went up a  it. But nothing alarming. Still hovering around 7% stale shares.
But also my estimated profits has went up quite a bit. I hope this stays or moves up a bit more.
Overall pretty happy with the results of the hard fork. Maybe im missing something. But really hoping this is permanent and not miners falling off at the moment.

There is basically 2 phases left for ethereum.

Constantinople - end of 2018

then

Serenity - Date unkown. This will convert Ethereum to POS then mining is over for Ethereum

You can read a bit about the phases of Ethereum here https://etherbasics.com/the-basics/phases-of-ethereum/ (https://etherbasics.com/the-basics/phases-of-ethereum/)

Ethereum PoS ? we are waiting about it since 2 years : the promise was for "end 2015".

Meanwhile, just because I was curious, I tried to switch one of my RX570-rigs from Monero back to ETH again just for the giggles. So bearing in mind I was hashing at 29MH/s per card back in the days (and I have NOT updated to the blockchain drivers) I was curious to see what hashrate I would get now...

Well, a whopping 24.5 MH/s per card.

Ouch.
No time to update drivers and stuff. Back to mining XMR! :D

So many forks happening

I did not notice any drop in hashrate (using Claymore miner). Just rise in the mining calculation  ;)

It will probably good to mine ETH now for another 3-5 months, then we will have the same problem as we had before Byzantium fork. Later on PoS will be on the menu for sure... I hope another good project (coin) will be revealed by then :)

Honestly i think the calcualtors are way off , I think they are not accounting for the drop in issuance from 5 to 3, and only taking the reduced block times into account.

I say this becase on ethpool i have been following this one miner, his hashrate is 12GHs, and he just now found another block.

His next estimated block is 3 days away solo mining , dividing 30/3days that means he will find 10 blocks approximately this month which is

30 eth ?

http://ethpool.org/miners/3e638b01e2846905982C8aC15Fa6Ae0710B29ea2/blocks (http://ethpool.org/miners/3e638b01e2846905982C8aC15Fa6Ae0710B29ea2/blocks)

but according to the calulator he will make 90ish eth this month , something doesnt smell right to me man

either way he was making 50 eth a month before so if i am right he is now making far less than he did before

30 seems low so what i did is multiply his 94 eth on thier  calculator times .6 ( drop from 5 eth to 3) and I get 54 eth

I think thats his true payout.

so basically he gained only 4 eth from before the fork and the dificulty bomb , not quite the 12-20% they promised lol

Ethermine calculator if way off thats for sure.
I'm nowhere near 10 Eth/month as the calculator wants me to believe  ;D

I think that calculator point is correct, but having said that my time to payout is plummeting faster than before (by c.50 hours) so far, so reckon the real figure is in the middle somewhere.

Better, but not quite as good as the calculators say - here's hoping though!

Hello guys!

My rigs are mining more Eth after the hardfork.

From 0,042 Eth daily to 0.052 Eth daily after the fork. So it is better!

Yeah block time is shorter now but block reward is lower.

Curious to see how long ETH stays profitable for us miners.

Ethermine calculator is wrong but  https://whattomine.com/coins/151-eth-ethash is more or less fine.

Edit:
The ethermine calculator has also been corrected, now work fine.

My stale shares on "eu1.Ethermine.org:14444" are going crazy. Yesterday 5, 6, 7 max. Today 9, 10... It's crazy! Somebody has noticed this increase in stale shares? Any solution? Is for Byzantium fork?

Yes. Kinda 10-15 percent for now. I hope they wouldn't switch to proof of stake soon.

Totally agree. And they might risk a hard fork if they switch. I am sure that there will be a big part of the community who will want to mine further.

Any idea when the PoS upgrade will go live?

I'm kind of holding all of my ETH to free myself from this neverending mining race.

Oh, so it's a long road ahead still.

Thought it was going to come live much sooner.

I don't yet notice rewards and profitability to go up in Nicehash. Probably only direct pools like Ethermine and direct miners like Claymore notice an increase in profitability for the moment.

What is your actual increase in daily profitability in Claymore miner in bitcoins per day or Ethereum per day ? I would love to see some data before I switch from Nicehash to dedicated miner like Claymore.

ah it s to early for POS I think. even more 2-3 years, then it would be good

Seems the upgrade is not yet completed and have some bugs, hopefully mining is not affected with this.

Using Nanopool, my estimated monthly income went from 130eur to 188eur (miner speed 140Mh/s). I would say it's a pretty nice jump in income! :)

My profit goes from 0.73 to 0,83 ETH a month aprox. Be patient, ethereum price will increase of course. PoS is will delaying for 1-2 years I think. Hold and wait!
