Title: Who else thinks the 5 posts / 4 hours rule is nonsence?
Post by: kwilliams on June 07, 2013, 09:29:15 AM
So in order to post on a topic that really interests me I have to wait 4 hours and "invent" 5 posts to other people's threads (pretending they interest me so I don't get trolled)? C'mon people keep it real ... was BTC not about freedom of expression?

Yeah it sucks in certain cases like yours, which I suppose are 1% or so.

99% of the people just jump asking all kinds of questions that have been asked 100 times already and flood the forum
for 4 hours most of them find most of the answers :)

If you have something to talk about you won't have a problem passing this limit. If you know much about Bitcoin, go to the Whitelist and ask for geeting through and explain in detail.

Nice to see people objecting what I thought no one would have done it.

Only people who have no patience for anything and want everything immediately will hate this rule.

Remember. Patience is a virtue.

I didn't bother me, there's usually enough threads in here to get the post count up and I spent the time browsing earlier posts to improve my knowledge and make sure I didn't ask any stupid questions.

As has been said, if you have a real need to post you can request and bypass the limits.

I think the rule keeps away a lot of people who will only clutter the site with crap and spam.

This, exactly.

It's a good time for you to learn about Bitcoin. Even if you think you know everything about it, you still don't know much. We still see the monthly thread about "what happen to lost Bitcoin?", "Bitcoin is flawed, there should be a way for [random shit that been explained 1000 times]" or "Why should miners continue to mine when all Bitcoin are mined?".

You will appreciate this rule when you get out of the newbie zone.

Someone makes the rules and we follow, I don't question, I just do because I have a motive and that is to leave the noob section asap, as if I were a noob at COD.

Doesn't take all that time :)

I just had the forum in the background when I worked and got in and posted som every 15 min.

Seriously quit these "Who else thinks 5 posts and 4 hour rule is ridiculous?" threads. No matter how much you and every other nube whine the rule will continue to exist. Go look at my very first 5 posts. You know what I did? I asked questions on the nube thread because I was a nube! I didn't whine about my then present limitations I just took advantage of the opportunity I had. Just because you're limited to post here doesn't mean you won't get help. Many higher ranking members like myself frequently visit this page because we all know what it was like. I actually used to visit this section of the forum more often than any other page despite my freedom to roam the forum. Why? because I found a lot of nubes that created interesting conversation and had really cool ideas, but now I hesitate to visit because every time I visit this section is flooded with "how can I get out of here quicker" or "4 hours really?". Buncha whiners nowadays. GTFO here with that bs!

I can't believe so many people complain about that rule it's really not that big of a deal. Many forums you have to post like 25+ ORIGINAL and unique posts before getting full access. Plus, if you can't come up with 5 posts then why should you be allowed to post in the main forum any way?

I didn't know about this rule until I wanted to reply to a certain topic. Now I have to find random topics to post nonsensical replies with, in order to post something of value in the topic that I want. Nice.  ;D It's not that big of a deal, but it's still a bit of a bummer. :P

I really dont think the rule is too big of a pain. The time it takes to create 5 posts vs the amount of time youll spend on the forums is  miniscule.

I like this a lot better than spam.  You know how much spam I see on this forum?  Guess ;D

Less spammers = easy to follow message boards.

I don't like it either, but I can see why they implement it to reduce spammers.

Not really a biggie. I'm a member of many forums that have similar rules in place to cut down on spam and stuff like that. Think about the warriors forum, if you want to post in certain sections you have to pay 40 bucks....take that as an example.

I moderate a forum elsewhere on the interwebs and these rules are necessary to keep out the spambots.  There are so many bots and spammers who would otherwise get in and ruin the forum with ads and spam.

Title: Re: Who else thinks the 5 posts / 4 hours rule is nonsence?

I vacillate between it's silly, it's bullshit, to they need to make it longer and make it more posts, especially after a whole screen on some threads of 6 post trolls just douching up a storm.

It's really no big deal.  Other than the posting part, you can basically automate the "four hours" part if you aren't a total retard.  Or hey, you could actually spend four hours reading the forum.

Exactly. I think this is a good rule to keep spam away.
Btw. I am a full member and I still often post in the newbie forum.

I'm still waiting for my 4-hour limit, but I think it is a good rule in principle.

It makes you post 5 times, so you get the habit and will (hopefully) add value to the community. It filters spammers (not sure how effectively). I just think the 4-hour "activity" should be replaced by 1-hour activity + some delay (4h? 8h?) after creating the account...

Regards

Ok, so I'm past 4 hours now and my post count is growing. Soon I will not care what a pain it was to wait and show fake interest - "Hey, at Starbucks there's a new barrista. Have you seen her?". "Yes, she makes the best frappuccino!". "Yes, right, and the flavor is so light ..." and so on an so forth just to prove I'm human and not a bot ...

IMHO there are ways to prove your humanity instantly. As for fending off trolls - these actually thrive on pushing their agenda no matter the subject and wont quit unless banned.

Anyhow, glad so many shared your opinions on this topic and yes, that one great pair of jugs !

I've been reading the forum for a while now but not posting.  I don't mind this need for 5 posts if it helps to keep the trolling down.
