Title: Is Bitcoin Legal?
Post by: Rahul20 on October 22, 2017, 07:02:29 PM
The legality of bitcoin depends on who you are, and what you’re doing with it.

There are three main categories of bitcoin stakeholder. Someone may fall under more than one of these categories, and each category has its own legal considerations.

Bitcoin is legal if you know what services and what tools to use on the network. If you use exchanges like Coinbase and you gave up a lot of personal information then Bitcoin may not be legal for you.

Depends on where you live right? So like here in the US it's fine I don't know of anywhere that makes it's use actually illegal. Maybe like North Korea? you'd have to have broken some oppressive law to even learn about bitcoin haha

Bitcoin is always going to be legal in the eyes of those who believe in it. The only ones who see bitcoin as illegal are the corrupt governments who are trying to force their oppressive regime down the throats of their citizens

or governments who are living in 1990. Other than that if you have an internet connection bitcoin is legal.

Yes bitcoin is totally legal, only that there are no official ways to proove that if you withdraw your profits to your bank account, those funds are for bitcoin, because it happened to me.
Once i withdrew more than $3k to my bank account and i had a lot of questions from the bank and if i didnt clarify that i was going to go jail because of "money laundering"
but yes, bitcoin is totally legal, only that there are some issues about it.

Some country say that bitcoin is illegal so it really depends and your location because here in my country we can easily use bitcoin. We can easily convert it into fiat money and also use bitcoin into some transaction online. But for me overall bitcoin is really not illegal because bitcoin will lead us to a better future and i know we are now heading their, day by day bitcoin will surely become more powerful soon.

Is good legal? Owning gold, trading gold and mining gold all have different legalities. How much tax do you need to pay when buying the gold? What trading regulations are there on the markets? What are the legalities involved with mining on certain sites and the security offered to miners etc.
Bitcoin is legal. Trading Bitcoin is legal. Mining Bitcoin is legal.
There may be different legal standings in terms of what can and can't be done with it and how much tax one needs to pay on any gains, but at the end of the day Bitcoin is legal. Whichever way you look at it.

And what are these categories that you are talking about? Can you please post them here too so that we will also know them. As far as I know about bitcoin's legality, it is highly a case to case basis since we have different domestic laws in the world. Bitcoin may be legal in one country and illegal in another. It does not matter how you use it. Even legal tenders of any country is being used in illegal activities.

Yes it's legal or in other words it's not illegal either. I haven't heard of any country which has made any law declaring bitcoin as illegal so yes it's legal but yes if you convert it to fiat and the amount of money you make in the process is huge then maybe you have to give the government authorities details regarding where this money comes from. But again the procedure might be different in various different countries.

I guess this depends on the user holding/using bitcoin if you decide to buy drugs using bitcoin this it will become illegal and also bitcoins legality denpends on your location or what country your at cause in some countries bitcoin is accepted and considered as a payment method others ban it cause it might be dangerous for their fiat systems. In short bitcoin can be illegal/legal depending on the stakeholder and the country your at.

For me bitcoin is legal because if it is not legal, why some of us see ads that is telling about bitcoin ? For example is when there is a game of a basketball sometimes you can see the ads that telling about Bitcoin. It is legal also because we let others know about it because if it is illegal we did not let anyone to know about it because we can accuse us a penalty.

If your purpose in using Bitcoin is for investments, I guess it is legal but if you are using it to hide your identity because you are involve in some crime, that will fall under illegal.

At this stage using Bitcoin is legal in most of the countries as far as the user is following the laws of the governments. In most of the cases, it is associated with the disclosure of the earnings and sources of the funds, paying appropriate taxes for the earned/acquired amount and NOT using the funds for illegal activities such as trading drugs/weapons (without having such licence). There are no restrictions on using Bitcoins in any country (except - North Korea).

One interesting thing to note about Bitcoin

There is laws that exist within bitcoin also.

Bitcoin protocol defines laws of its operation and those are enforced by the security of the bitcoin network.

Its doen with physics and mathematics using computers and the internet. so the system has become placed beyond the jurisdiction of any government.

Future development on the Bitcoin protocol can lead to forks, but also there is development on the inevitable off chain bitcoin networks.

as long as these are designed to be decentralized bitcoin will continue to function as intended but there is always the possibility for the authoritarian tentacles to wind their way around your throat so that it may squeeze the life out of you.

Even though bitcoin itself is illegal or legal depending on jurisdiction. its likely that in the future laws will require bitcoin holders to keep their bitcoin in a certain type of address that indicates your compliance and consent to the network to be subjected to certain draconian policies. unless you have permission to do otherwise.

Bitcoin is considered legal as long as the government in your country is not declaring it illegal to use. The legality of btc really depends on a country's lawmakers. And of course how the people in that country use it will have a bearing in the acceptance and legality of it. So if in case btc is being abused and used in illegal activities such as drug trafficking and money laundering it will leave no option for the government to order banning of btc and declare its use as illegal.

Each country has their own rules and regulations and you will either need to provide which country you belong to or need to check your govt stand on btc. Some countries have banned btc in their country and few have accepted it. Majorly most countries have undecided yet related to such currencies.

Believe so myself. Some countries don't allow the use of bitcoins and majority allows it. About 90% of the developed countries legalized the use of bitcoin while about 20% of the developing countries are trying to ban bitcoin because they don't fully understand the concept of bitcoin. Yet majority of the under-developed countries don't even know what is bitcoin, how it works or even how it operate. Bitcoin is endorsed by top economies of the world such as U.S and Japan - so what more people want ? the answer to your question might depend on your country on bitcoin legalization.

For me bitcoin is legal because i believe on it and bitcoin will lead us to become rich and it is better to our future. Bitcoin is easier to withdraw and wallets are secured that's why we cash out our money in good way. Bitcoin legalization is also depends on our country because some countries it is illegal and not accepted.

And what country you’re in. Because ignorance of the law excuses no one as every state or country will not ask you what your doing with it even it is totally illegal in that part of the world. Those depend who your are thing, sounds political and influential people not following the law and get away with it.

According to me it is legal or not that depends on the country.
The condition of bitcoins are different in different in nation's ,
Countries like Japan ,  USA or Philippines which are developed , the government donot any friction to crypto currencies.
But the countries which are still under development like India , neither consider bitcoins legal nor illegal.

Though countries like china restrict Bitcoins , but the restrictions is on the transaction passing through banks , like people  cannot convert their bitcoins into fiat. it is not that Bitcoins are illegal , they are just not referred by the government to the people .

The legality of one investments can only be proven by an existing law that governs and implement regulation. This is not about someone making illegal things then turn out to be no law to be shown at court. That’s really very hard thing to do, like now many ICO scamming is happening but no or lot of them can’t be taken down or jailed because of lack in laws to pin them down.

It depends on the country you are living. Bitcoin is legal as a currency because it was made as a currency but we are living on a society where there is a Government that exists to create laws and regulation for everyone's "SAFETY". Bitcoin as a currency is legal. Bitcoin as a currency to another country is dependent on the government. Activities with the usage of Bitcoin is legal depending on the Activity that you are doing.

I was hoping to read about the three categories with the relevant explanations as well but unfortunately I am not getting that part but the fact still remains that anywhere you are, you can still use bitcoin even in the United States where some service providers are not extending their services, there is still room to trade in bitcoin, earn it and convert it to cash, but the issue is on the encumbrances one will have to face in doing it the right way in that place compared to other parts of the world where a simple chat on a platform could make the cash land in your bank account in matter of minutes.

It depends on your country, and the rules applied for it. If you live in a country where using Bitcoin is not yet too much established like in my case, so it is ofcourse legal because no one would even notice you are using something like this as there aren't any places to use them except on internet. But if you live in a country where Bitcoin has already gotten a bad reputation and is prohibited to be used by the government then it is illegal for you for sure. In some countries, people use their Bitcoins to buy small things outside like coffee or other things, so it is legal for them probably, and some countries are regulating Bitcoin like China did some time ago, so now maybe it is not legal to use Bitcoins in China after that.

Legal or illegal. Well, it is neither. In most cases (vary depending on the country) it does not yet have a clear definition of what it is - is it a currency, is it a property, a commodity. Without a definition, laws cannot be issued as there is too much of 'grey area', so many aspects can be interpreted differently. So technically, it makes it legal, cuz nobody says it ain't. But there's a catch. Governments can use this 'grey area' to bite you in the ass. How? They can find many ways how, it's just whether they are interested in you or not. So if you're just a quiet casual dude, selling a bit of bitcoin from time to time, you should be good, for now at least. But if you want to go full in with crypto and you possess big sums - I'm not so sure it is wise to play on the 'not illegal' card. Remember, it is not illegal, but neither it is legal.

i think there are many country that is not giving any statement or any information to their citizen about bitcoin and i think it will make bitcoin in the grey side. but the government maybe give warning to the citizen to use bitcoin for their own risk and if somehow they are loss their money because of bitcoin, they don't have to blame other people. as long as the government don't prohibit bitcoin, then i think we can still use bitcoin and so far, i think many people from different country still using bitcoin too.

Bitcoin is legal or not depend on the way you use and where are you living :D. For example if you use Bitcoin to purchase game or good it's legal but if you use it to buy drug, evade tax or for money laundering it's illegal and you'll have to go to jail if the police find you out. Beside Bitcoin is not legalized in almost countries all over the world but if you use Bitcoin in these countries it'll be fine but if you use Bitcoin in countries that Bitcoin banned it'll be big problem and you'll have a trip to jail for at least 6 months.

There are only a few countries in the world which once marked the bitcoin in the legislation. But the bulk of the country interprets the rules to use bitcoin for their own interest. This means that bitcoin is illegal everywhere. The recognition of bitcoin requires the government to take on some commitments. The government do not want. They will continue to take the strategy of waiting.

I'd rather say that Bitcoin is legal everywhere unless a country specifies that it is illegal on its territory. Since Bitcoin is a digital, decentralized currency, no government controls it, so no government can declare it illegal everywhere. Any government declarations and laws related to Bitcoin will apply only in the territory of each government.

The legality of bitcoin actually depends on where you are along with what you do with it. It depends on the country specific legislation to determine whether bitcoin is legal in your country or not. Then the question comes, what you do with it. My personal thinking is, till the time your government doesn't give a damn about bitcoin, you are in good shape. The moment your government starts showing interest in bitcoin, you will be placed on the top of a wall. You will either be accepted, or be denied/banned. I am not in complete understanding on the categories you have mentioned here, can you please elaborate?

If there is a law that legalized the use of bitcoin then we can consider it legal. Some countries issues regulations to some operators of cryptocurrency exchanges in their area but does not intend to endorse any virtual currency including the bitcoin. When a country did not ban the use of bitcoin as a virtual currency the it is safe to use but it is does not mean it has a legality because in order to become legal, there must be a law that legalizes it.

It´s legal generally. There are some exceptions depending on the country.

Yes agree with that.. Most countries even without the proper legal law passed on by the lawmakers themselves we can assume that those countries are open for bitcoin transactions and uses it accordingly.. That’s the best of it because this is a freedom investment and to make sure that we deserve this freedom,, we should be responsible enough to just do what is right..

If we Thinks Logically about Bitcoin Then its Legal. we have to see which ways we use bitcoin and where we use bitcoin and also depend where we live. If we use bitcoin legal ways that time its legal.

Now The World accept bitcoin for everywhere , Like Transaction, Shopping, Business, Investment, Exchange Plastform, So many banks accepted and also accepted Merchant.

So If we do everything and its use able for our real life.. That's mean we can tell bitcoin is legal.

The legality of bitcoin depends on who you are, and what you’re doing with it.
No as legality is declared by the state on where are you residing. If they so that bitcoin is legal, then the citizens have to consider it legal. And if the government will tell that bitcoin is illegal, then citizens should flee from bitcoin because they might face criminal offense for supporting it.

There are three main categories of bitcoin stakeholder. Someone may fall under more than one of these categories, and each category has its own legal considerations.
What are these three main categories of bitcoin stakeholder?

I think if the use of bitcoin can be done for various financial transactions either for payment transactions or business transactions certainly can be categorized in bitcoin is legal although functionally but not legally of course, because as far as I know no country declares the legalization of bitcoin as the eye official money in the country.

In your post you describe the ideal conditions for the development of bitcoin. Now we do not see. Bitcoin supports Fiat. This is reflected in the fact that for the transactions, we will have to exchange bitcoin for Fiat. This makes it easier for the state to exercise control over the circulation of bitcoin. States will never accept the bitcoin currency.

Grey colors are for countries that still do not have any announcements about bitcoin,

For me it does not matter what he thinks about bitcoin to my government. After I believed bitcoin I really can't stop. May they accept any limitations. I'm not going to do them. In my eyes the government has lost its legitimacy. They had a chance to have the respect but they didn't. Now this authority have won a bitcoin and they have no chance in the competition.

It is a totalitarian state, and there the people themselves should decide for themselves questions of power. They don't vote against their dictators and therefore support their opinions. This depends on the regulations of each country. In my opinion, bitcoin is completely legal. Some countries recognize bitcoin, bitcoin is legal in countries like Japan, USA ... some countries do not recognize bitcoin even ban it

There are three main categories of bitcoin stakeholder. Someone may fall under more than one of these categories, and each category has its own legal considerations.

It depends on where you are residing as well. Even if you are a citizen of a country where bitcoin is legal but you are currently living in a country where bitcoin is illegal then you should follow their rules. There are many countries nowadays who are making moves to make bitcoin and cryptocurrency in general legal but there are those who are firm with their belief that bitcoin is illegal because these can be use in doing illegal things but if you think about it, anything can be use in illegal way whether it is fiat or digital currency as long as it can be use as payment option. For those country who did not declare bitcoin as illegal but do not regulate it yet then I assumed bitcoin is still considered legal.

yes indeed if seen in general is like that, depending on who we are and what we do on bitcoin that we have. Bitcoin itself is not bad to use and indeed it should can be legal, it depends on who uses it, whether people who think criminally or people who actually use bitcoin from the good side without any things that smell negative on using. But yeah anyway from so many people, of course there are still people who are negative thoughts on using bitcoin and from all the governments of the country there are still who thinking that bitcoin is dangerous when used against certain things. So bitcoin hasn't really been legal in all governments on each countries, there are still many considerations about it.

The legality of Bitcoin depends upon two factors.First factor is the way in which we use it. For example some people use it as a mode of payment in drug dealings, ammunition dealings etc which makes the use of Bitcoin illegal. Other factor is the country in which we live beacuse Bitcoin is still not accepted as a mode of payment in many countries. For example,in China use of Bitcoin is illegal. In some countries like U.S.A, Canada ,Japan etc Bictoin is legal. So legality of Bitcoin depends upon our way to use it and on the rules and regulations of the country in which we live.

Every country has their own specific agenda, rules, and regulations regarding a certain provision. A country in Asia may legalize bitcoin, while a country in Europe may not. It really depends on their current state whether they are willing to embrace the implications of bitcoin by allowing its utilization. Like you guys said, other countries accept it as an alternative payment, while some prohibit it due to being a contribution to their drug-related problems or crime rates. Personally, I think that bitcoin should be legalize in every country, regardless of its implications, since the opportunities it provide really support the ones who are under average in terms of income.

The legality of bitcoin will truly depend upon the users. If the users will use bitcoin in illegal activities such as laundering, smuggling, guns and drugs then the reputation of bitcoin will be at stake because it will make some countries to think twice of they will adopt and declare bitcoin is legal or not. Therefore the users should use bitcoin for good like to make their lives financially stable in which to use the bitcoin in honorable spending so that the government will see only the good things and will not in doubt to legalize it.

We are free to use bitcoin in our daily transactions, but as of now, we only have limited use of it. Because there are still stores who do not know or do not accept bitcoin as payment. I just want to respond to your view of a poor country that prohibits the use of bitcoin,
I think the legality and ban of bitcoin isn't dependent on economic status of the country, but of course it depends on their government policy in making regulations about circulation of digital currency, because in fact many developed countries in Europe are banning the use of bitcoin
and I think bitcoin in your country is legally functional but not for its legality, because if the bitcoin legality in your country is legal, there will be government regulations regarding rights and obligations of bitcoin users.

I think it depends on government policy in a country.
Because in my country the existence of bitcoin is still illegal, the government forbids its citizens to use bitcoin as a legitimate payment.
Perhaps there are still many considerations from the government to legalize bitcoin in his country.
I personally hope the government in my country as soon as possible to legalize bitcoin, because i think the existence of bitcoin can prosper many people.

That has nothing to do with the government in your country. It's up to the services to choose a fee that allows them to [1] make profit, and [2] not be high enough to bother their users too much.

I have even seen people talk about Bitcoin's network fees as being the fault of the government. No matter how much people dislike governments and their behavior, Bitcoin's higher network fees are not their fault, lol.

Bitcoin would naturally be in a legal basis. The problem lies with the person who would utilize bitcoins. So if bitcoins was use in dubious deals then that is the time it can be use in illegal means.  Also, every country had their own standpoint on how they view bitcoins.

bitcoin is either legal or illegal, just like real money you can use it legally like buying clothes, food, kitchen supplies, appliances etc. but also you can use it illegally like buying drugs, the same concept applies to bitcoin because it is the user who will define its legality or illegality.

Some countries don't allow bitcoin to be legal and they banned it but others also make it legal and they adopt it. But for me bitcoin legal, they just consider it as illegal because it has no connection with governments and banks. They think that it is just scam. They are afraid that it might affect their power and authority. They don't and support it.

Yes , if your country allows you for it the ehy not . Bitcoi's legality changes from place to place and that is why it cannot be said where it can be legal and where it cannot be legal . Moreover , it also highly depends on how you use it , if you have like less than 8 bitcoin , then no one would raise eyebrows but f you have more then that then allegations can be  made against you in context to money laundring or darweb.

The legal status of bitcoin varies substantially from country to country and is still undefined or changing in many of them. Some countries have explicitly allowed its uses and trade, others have banned or restricted it. Likewise, various government agencies, departments, and courts have classified bitcoins differently. But as per current news and articles most of the country taking interest in bitcoin. The European Central Bank classifies bitcoin as a convertible decentralized virtual currency. Bitcoin would naturally be in a legal basis. The problem lies with the person who would utilize bitcoins. So if bitcoins was use in dubious deals then that is the time it can be use in illegal means.  Also, every country had their own standpoint on how they view bitcoins.
Surely, it depends on the mentality of a person who is using bitcoin, if he uses it positively then it can bring many revolutionary changes in the society but if he uses it negatively then in spite of blaming the technology we should blame our own mass.

Even in those countries crimes are common where bitcoin is ban, it is not due to bitcoin it is due to the mentality of mass, so governments should educate the mass rather than banning bitcoin

To the best of our knowledge, Bitcoin has not been made illegal by legislation in most jurisdictions. However, some jurisdictions (such as Argentina and Russia) severely restrict or ban foreign currencies. Other jurisdictions (such as Thailand) may limit the licensing of certain entities such as Bitcoin exchanges.

Regulators from various jurisdictions are taking steps to provide individuals and businesses with rules on how to integrate this new technology with the formal, regulated financial system. For example, the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN), a bureau in the United States Treasury Department, issued non-binding guidance on how it characterizes certain activities involving virtual currencies

It is really understandable that people will question about the legality of bitcoin. The relationship between Bitcoin and the law really depends on how the digital currency is being used and who used it. Example legal activity in bitcoin is when you use it to purchase well-natured goods and services. However, those who mine bitcoins and trade them for traditional currency or operate exchanges on which bitcoins are bought and sold are labeled “money transmitters” and could be subject to special laws that govern that type of activity.

I don't know if any country would agree with that since Bitcoin is being made to fight the centralized system of the government. Exchanges now are supported by the banks and government and a lot of these exchanges are asking for personal information of the users. Very few countries have gone as far as to declare bitcoin illegal. That does not, however, mean that bitcoin is "legal tender" - so far, only Japan has gone as far as to give bitcoin that designation. However, just because something isn't legal tender, does not mean that it cannot be used for payment - it just means that there are no protections for either the consumer or the merchant, and that its use as payment is completely discretionary.

We can assume that if bitcoin is not banned in your country of residence, then it is legitimate. In most countries there is a rule fixed in civil codes that if a transaction is not directly prohibited, then it is legal, that is, there is a presumption of legitimacy of transactions. From this it follows that if bitcoin and other crypto currency are not yet legalized in your country, they should be considered void.

Bitcoin is legal, of course, but in a country that has fully regulated bitcoin and received bitcoin. but, bitcoin can also be illegal in a country that has banned bitcoin.
you are right, because ligal or illegal depending on each country as we know in this world there are three categories of state law for bitcoin
1, ligal for countries receiving bitcoin
2, illegal for a country that forbids bitcoin
3, neutral for countries that do not prohibit bitcoin transactions and the government does not regulate all bitcoin issues
If btc is illegal in a country maybe because the government is just paranoid of the traditional system, a die hard fanatic of old or maybe because government think that bitcoin is a threat in their economy or even to their corrupt practices since  bitcoin is decentralized.
And if it is legal government knows how to manage the potential of btc to their country.
And if it is not legal or illegal that means that hibernate just watch for every possibility.

The legality of anything bitcoin as a case study is dependent on the persons using it, To my own opinion i think it is legal reasons because most countries use it for the purpose of transaction. It's just like when some will say a countries currency is illegal and the people living in that country still use it for the exchange of goods and services.

Why should a currency be considered as legal or illegal. It depends on one who uses it. If any currency is used black money then obviously it’s not an legal move from the individual. It’s not that the currency is illegal. Its categorized as illegal as the authority who owns local currency do not want any other currency to lead and cause its local currency gain low value. This is completely a competition.  As long as the currency supports my life, I would support it.

Who you are and what your doing with it is not the basis to make bitcoin legal. It is more about what the majority gain rather self interest and self family centered. One or two or even 10 families aren't the reason to make bitcoin legal in the society. It is all about the people's choice whether they accept or not bitcoin or maybe crypto in their areas of responsibility. I do believeed government who already decided to make crypto legal in their area was the more advantages for the people than disadvantages.

The legality of bitcoin depends on who you are, and what you’re doing with it.

There are three main categories of bitcoin stakeholder. Someone may fall under more than one of these categories, and each category has its own legal considerations.

Its not legal or illegal in my country. They have not yet announced anything on this, but the RBI authority has informed all the exchanged not deal with any crypto currencies transactions. They have given 3 months’ time to eradicate the current deals with crypto currencies. But many including the exchanges have filed a case against RBI and now its under progress. Hope, the exchanges win the battle and crypto gets accepted by the government.

Bitcoin should be considered legal in any country until it is banned. As a general rule, every person can engage in all types of entrepreneurial activities until such activities are officially recognized as illegal, that is, there is a presumption of legitimacy of transactions. In any case, so says the legislation of my country. Since in my country the legislature has not yet considered the bill on the crypto currency, the activity with it should be considered legitimate.

It depends on the country since a lot of countries accepts bitcoin and a lot also banned it a lot still not sure since they are allowing their people for this but they don't want to tolerate while they are still in the process of evaluating it, so if that is the case in your country just continue to contribute to the btc community so that the government could see the good outcome.

Some countries' central banks approved the use of bitcoin for remittance purposes because it is faster and more convenience to use. But they did not still approved any cryptocurrency to be use as a mode of payment. This is maybe their own first step in legalizing cryptocurrencies because they are still wary of bitcoin possible effects on their local economy.

I think as my knowledge, Bitcoin has not been declared illegal in most countries. Although there are some countries such as Argentina and Russia that some countries prohibit foreign currency. Other countries are such as Thailand restrict certain currency entity entities such as Bitcoin exchange. Some policy makers are from various countries are making steps to provide individuals and businesses with regulation on how to integrate this new technology with the rules of the formal financial system. For example, the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (Fin CEN), a bureau at the US Treasury Department, publishes a freelance guide on how the governments handle certain virtual currency-related activities. if we know clearly please see in https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Legality_of_bitcoin_by_country thank you.

Bitcoin is greater than any individual no matter who the person is. And therefore the legality do not depend  the individual whether good or bad, intelligent or not intelligent, rich or poor and so on.

I think the legality will not depend on us like if we will use it in legal and illegal activities but it will fully depend of the nation or the government as the lead rule on how the Bitcoin will be use. If the government will declare it legal then of course regulation will be strictly to be implemented to prevent us of using it illegally. If the government will declared it illegal then for sure no one can use it either in legal and illegal means.

If fiat currency can be use by anyone by bad and good people then same with the Bitcoin currency in which it can be use by both good and bad people and both in legal and illegal acrivities too.The same currencies for spending with only the appearance is the difference but the good thing for Bitcoin is it can be regulated so that it can only be use in legal means. What's illegal is using it for illegal means, such as money laundering, etc. Just follow the rules/regulations of your country.

Obviously, when using Bitcoin, you have to be a bit more careful (aka watching the news, etc) than when using fiat, as fiat is generally more socially accepted.

from the information I read it turns out there are some countries that have legalized bitcoin and use bitcoin as a digital currency, one of which is the United States although the user has not so much new about 25%, most of them use bitcoin for onlen shopping and some are using it to pay lectures and other transactions. maybe sooner or later other countries will follow.

bitcoin is legal depending on you, where your country lives, because there are some countries that accept bitcoin there are also those who reject bitcoin.
some countries have already received bitcoin, bitcoin users can use bitcoin for payments such as online payments etc.
but for countries that have not yet received it may also have their own reasons because different countries are different in thought and also different policies.

There are several countries that strongly prohibit bitcoin because the law is unclear, for example Indonesia is my country that is not very supportive of the development of crypto digital (bitcoin) currencies in my country if there is someone who transacts such as buying and selling homes using digital currency bitcoin will be punished I said this was not a lie because it had happened in Bali. because the Indonesian state only allows its citizens to buy houses with rupiah, the rupiah is the Indonesian currency.

I think Indonesia is not that worst in punishment even though I'm not in that country but I heard I already that they strict on cryptocurrency.
Well, as of now this bitcoin (digital money) is not clearly legal to the country, also in my country bitcoin is not stated to our government that it is illegal but they did not prohibit us to use it even there is no implementing law that it is legal.
In this case, each country has a different perspective on bitcoin (cryptocurrency) on how they adopt it into their society.

bitcoin is legal, I think it happens not in all countries because maybe only those who agree that bitcoin can be used as a legitimate medium of exchange, but it doesn't seem to happen in a country that has not approved bitcoin as a medium of exchange but allows its citizens to own

but only as an investation or assets. because there are still many countries whose financial systems are still traditional. But for a more modern exchange media, it might still wait for the next ten years.

No, it is not legal (in most countries). But not in a bad sense of this word. Government doesn't want to accept it and that's the only reason why it is illegal. Moreover, Bitcoin was created to be "illegal", uncontrolled and decentralized.

Well, to my knowledge, Bitcoin is declared illegal in some countries, but it is also legal in the country that has received it. it seems not that simple, but there are still many countries that prohibit the circulation of bitcoin but allow citizens to have bitcoin, and the government recognizes in the form of assets. because the government wants to apply taxes to their owners, so the problem can be more complicated.

may want to protect the value of its currency, but on the other hand the government wants to get income from the owners of bitcoin. So I think the bitcoin currency is legal.

It remains a confidential thing about it and we really don't know how the law enforcement could control bitcoin's legality. The initial development is our future towards price to gain at better value, and for now there's no certain approved rules that bitcoin was totally covered of. Nor legal nor illegal, bitcoin is always a decentralized body which was separated from centralized fiat currency.

indeed the government is a difficult choice to prohibit or allow, because there are still many criminals who have the potential to use digital currency to store or transact directly, because government technology cannot support or supervise digital money transfers.

The legality of bitcoin depends on who you are, and what you’re doing with it.

There are three main categories of bitcoin stakeholder. Someone may fall under more than one of these categories, and each category has its own legal considerations.

Yeah, the question surrounding the relationship between Bitcoin and the law really depends on how the digital currency is being used. Depending on where and how you utilize bitcoin, it is important to remain up-to-date on the latest regulations concerning the digital currency. As laws change across borders, governing bodies and, increasingly, as the platform gains popularity, questions about bitcoin’s legality will continue to be raised.

Bitcoin will always be legal, if there are no special regulatory acts of the state prohibiting its circulation. Practically in all countries in which Roman private law is taken as the basis of law, it is stated that it is allowed to engage in all types of business activities that are not directly prohibited by law or do not contradict generally accepted business conditions.
For example, in my country, the cryptocurrency is not yet regulated, but it freely goes on the territory of the state.

bitcoin is only an alternative currency that is very safe and very transparent because it adopts the blocokchain technology which makes it very easy to monitor its movements, of course things like this are very feared by criminals, especially corruptors, so they pressure the government to reject bitcoin because they are afraid of being detected if you put their money in bitcoin. is bitcoin legal? depending on which country we live in.

Well, true enough, Bitcoin's legality or illegality is jurisdictional worldwide. It really depends on the State laws and local laws, in general. But just to correct some of the views and opinions here, Bitcoin is not illegal when the national laws are silent about it. It only means they sort of allow it through acquiescence because lawmakers may be at odds or undecided for the time being. But just be cautious because there are times the government issues Issuances or AOs to immediately address pressing concerns like this kind.
