If someone wants it, I have a 0.25 share from the first miner that I no longer want to keep, need to sell it quickly (need money for bills).

It was 0.25 BTC, which is what I'm asking for it.  Let me or waldohoover know if you want it.

dwolfman,

I'll buy the share from you and resell it on my own so you're not stressing. I'll shoot the BTC over tonight to your payout address unless you want it paid to another.

Cheers brotha.

Thanks, and I'll PM you a different address to use so I don't have to transfer it again.  :)

Can I get a confirmation for my 1BTC reservation pre-payment?

txid sent via pm on reddit (sbjf)

The rest of the payment of the reservation is already in the sending account, I'll send that as soon as the 3rd miner is close to finishing.

I am interested in buying 3.5 of the reserves for miner #3 if they open up.

If you don't want to split them, I would do 4, but I would prefer to do 3.5.

Updated OP!

Very nice :)

Have you thought about the possibility of making the shares here actual shares on e.g. bitfunder? That might make things easier once there are actual payouts. (Although I think there is a 5 BTC fee for registering your own stock, this would need to be split).

So how is the mining going to be done?
Is it going to be solo mining, part of a pool, part of multiple pools?
If pool(s), which?
If multiple pools, what type of change management strategy will be used?
Would you be doing DGM, PPS, or other?
Would there be voting on these things?

I know that things could change between now and when the boxes come, but I was just wondering the game plan.

The hash rate does not really allow for solo mining at both the current difficulty and the difficulty that'll probably be the case once they are delivered.

I think a pool and two fallback pools would suffice. I believe it would be best to have pools where you can publicly view hashrate and hashrate over time. The only one that has that that I know of is Eligius, but I suppose waldohoover might prefer to have them as part of Mining Team Reddit on BTCGuild. Alternatively, you could use any pool and then use a webinterface for viewing hashrate, supposing such a thing exists for the mining client KnCMiner's machines will support (I know it does for cgminer, it ships with miner.php)

As a BFL Asic Miner, I like Eclipse MC - using bfgminer.
I find with Eligius, it can take a while to get to the min and you can't adjust it, and if we are doing weekly drafts, it may not be best.
Another one I like is DeepBit.
Ozcoin is nice but I found my returns were smaller than expected.
But either way, most pools have an API where you can pull the data, so it would be fairly trivial to create a site to show stats.
Also many have email alerts on events, so we could have a forwarding event or parser for that.

Depending on how my time is when the hardware comes, I can possibly assist in this.

I definitely want a piece of a Jupiter, and I can pay on Wednesday, so I'm shopping around now...

Is that comment about waiting to order when BTC/USD goes up a joke?  Are you seriously just going to sit on everyone's money and not order for weeks or possibly months if the exchange rate stays 80-90 or worse?

Yes, that is exactly what I will be doing. Or everyone can send .1BTC a share and we could order it now and I can change all future shares to 1.1BTC to make up the difference. Do you find it fair for me to cover everyones shares because the price fell? Lol. Come on.

WH

What about making a mandatory change (for the recent GB's anyway) to 1.1? Refund anyone's BTC who doesn't want the new price, and promise to reimburse buyers if BTC hits $X by a certain date. If a buyer will trust you with a BTC, they can certainly trust you to refund the 0.1 should BTC jump higher. At least this way you have a confirmed deal for people to buy in to. I suspect the fact that your deal is in limbo is keeping buyers away. Just an idea...

I'm not going to refund OVER HALF of the share-holders money because they do not want to pay .1 - that is NOT an option.

I'm not going to force anyone to pay more because of the price drop but I will delay the purchase (obviously) if they do not want to pay the differnce.

If I start offering 1.25/share for future shares- then the price is back up to $100 and we haven't sold the shares yet. Then I have a line of people wanting the price refund back- it's just a big PITA to do it that way.

I think the best strategy would be to devalue the old 1BTC shares, such that they are only 4 GH/s (5GH/s / 1.25). Anyone who wishes a refund gets one. The remaining amount for a full miner will be new shares, because it won't be going over 100$ anytime soon, so you could bump up the miner #4 shareholders.

I think this would be fairest for everyone involved and would lead to the quickest purchase of the miners.

What you gonna do with the miner when it won't be profitable for shareholders? (it could happen before you receive it)
Will you return money in amount of share (because share means that the miner is the property of the shareholder) or just disconnect it or sell it for market price and divide the amount. What will be your next step?

Hey waldo

Just to confirm, so each share entitles us to revenue from 5 GH/s, minus 3% fee?
You are aware that depending on the difficulty rampup, it is possible this 3% won't cover running costs?
So I'm assuming running costs will be covered using your own funds (/profit you make from this groupbuy)?

You should put a BTC sell order in at 100 USD so it sells even if you're afk

On our shares list there is a guy with 20 shares *RESERVED. Does that mean we have to wait until he pays even if BTC reaches $100?

Hi guys
Just a suggestion, shouldn't we dilute the shares with the current btc price difference like 98/100 =  0.98 and issue another share (even a partial share) for 0.98% of the miner capacity?
Just to get the order(s) placed.  I think being in the queue for earlier delivery far outweighs the dilution of share value over the lifetime of the miner.

Should we also have dates with each miner, for example:

Miner #1 Saturn [CLOSED jan/01/2013] [PAID jan/02/2013]

or, even rough dates just to get a more clear picture of when these were ordered and when these were closed. It will also be easy later on to see delivery timeline for the users here?
Just a suggestion, I am new so I may be missing some info on the boards.

Ahh ok didn't realise this.

I think this is a great idea.
At a price of $98, it means you would have to issue an additional 1.63 shares.
And instead of 5 GH/s, we each receive 4.9 GH/s.

Nope- That's just going to complicate things. The magic number is $100.
Don't agree, but it's your groupbuy. I'd highly recommend reconsidering his idea if BTC price does not rise soon.
How early in October we receive it could still be affected

How does everyone feel with making shares 1.1BTC? Having all 1BTC shareholders send an additional .1BTC to get these Miners ordered?

I'm fine with $100 but there are a lot of people wanting to get this going- $90 seems to be a safe spot (at least as far as the last couple of weeks).

I vote in favour of BTC1.1 shares.

Correct, it will run for 30 months and then share holders will vote on what to do with the hardware.

I'm betting the hardware will be obsolete LONG before 30 months...

I hope it won't be confusing with me having shares in miner 3 and 5.

Can I get this miner earnings put into a different wallet than my miner 3?
I would like to keep the two separate, kinda for statistics and peace of mind.

I have 1 share available in Miner #3. First to reply here gets it. (do not send payment yet)

I totally had misread that at first thinking someone had bought a share and was giving it away to the community, not buying it... I am glad I did not respond when I first saw it, lol.
I was like, I will let this pass since I have some on that box already.

Hey look, MT Gox is > $100 average, totally should ... blah blah bitpay; had to do it.

Not sure what your intention with this post was? You're either mocking share holders (future or current) questions or mocking my reasoning behind the payment amount.. either way.. neither is really necessary or acceptable. This is an open and all friendly group buy and I do not want nor do I need any drama tied to this so please refrain from non-sense ok? If you're not happy I will be more than happy to refund your shares.

WH

I will back down, I felt like there was a need for some humor since I read your statement of "As I've stated numerous times and also..." as you were being annoyed.
I was one of the original people who was looking at MTGox's prices and commenting about it.  If anything, I was mocking myself and meant no harm by it.
I was actually quite pleased to see that the avg had hit $100 mark on MTGox.

I am sorry to anyone that my comment came off as having malicious intent, trolling or trying to create drama.

Hi Everyone!

I just finished creating BitcoinSolutions.com (http://CoiningSolutions.com) - Earning and profitability calculator. This is just a mock-up that I created today showing estimate earnings/fees/profits. At the bottom you can adjust the difficulty to get an estimated report for the difficulty you choose.

I will continue to implement more information and features along with documenting the arrival/unboxing/setup and configuring of the Miners as the arrive. I may setup a live stream if that's something you guys may be interested in.

Please let me know if there are any mistakes or typos - I will most likely use this same model for determining our weekly dividend payouts. So any typos in the formulas I would like to squash out sooner than later.

Hopefully this will answer some questions that you guys may have and possibly get you a bit more excites as well!  :D

As always, open to Qs and comments,
WH

Excellent calculator site, WH! I like the layout, clean.
Now I just have to keep watching this thread for cancelled/available shares from #3 or 4...
 ;D.

The numbers in http://coiningsolutions.com/ do seem to follow my trends.

You may want to setup a google read-only spreadsheet instead of exporting from Excel, unless you plan on doing more to the design.
With Google you can add miners or update the layout, with revision tracking, without having to reexport/upload/etc.
The downside, it's Google, but they do already have your data anyway.

It may be good to add another note for people who are not used to mining that some days you make less some days you make more and that this a mean estimate.

Once we do start mining, it would be cool to see a complexity trend log, that looks at timing between jumps to better predict longer term outcomes.

Also when each miner hits a break-even point for shares, announce it on the thread.

Break-even being in BTC 1.0 for 1 and 2, 1.1 for 3+ unless things change.
Break-even is on total rewards per share after fee.

It may also be something to add an adjustment for difference in BTC/USD ratio.
Then, assuming it is 140 USD to 1 BTC, we would break-even even earlier.
With this, it would probably be a good idea to either look at the ratio when you ordered or when we start mining or just have a box where people could put in how much btc were worth in USD when they sent to you and how much.

I was thinking of something simple, like when the payout per share sum is at 1.0 and 1.1btc, no matter the present value of btc, then post a congrats message.  This would be the same for everyone on that miner.

It would also be cool to have a system setup that will either email or update an rss/json feed when blocks are solved with the miners or their mining pools.  Many pools have an api or auto send out emails, so this should not be too difficult to implement.  With my current setup, one of the best things is getting a txt message stating you have more money.  I do email forwarding to my phone.

As I've stated numerous times and also updated in the OP, the BTC/USD price is NOT based off of MtGox, we are using BitPay to purchase the miners so the rates are from https://bitpay.com/bitcoin-exchange-rates

Shares will still be 1.1BTC unless BTC sits at a steady $100+ for more than a week.

WH
I see you mentioned bitpay earlier and wasn't sure what bitpay rates were based on. I read somewhere on this thread being GOX, that's why I thought it was good to buy now when GOX is over $100. My mistake!

I think I've found a mistake in CoiningSolutions. If you select @300M difficulty down below, the difficulty in the chart changes to 120M.

The numbers on http://coiningsolutions.com/ actually seem fairly low compared to the trends I have had on EclipseMC Mining Pool.
When normalizing my average returns hashing power to 5gh/s, I compute about 0.09-0.11 btc/day per 5gh/s before fees.

Results are using a difficulty of 31256961 for the past 3 weeks.

Post by: stex2009 on August 08, 2013, 06:26:56 PM
I'm considering starting a new GB (or merging with this one) for BitFury's 400GH Kit. I would like to diversify my (and shareholders) investments into companies I believe in. KnCMiner was one and others have not really caught my eye. I do like what BitFury has to offer along with prototypes seen.

So the question is, anyone interested in a merged or new GB for BitFury's 400GH miner?
Interesting. I might jump in with a few shares! Will investigate more how good the company is.

Alright not at home right now. But when I get home I will transfer you the extra funds.
And post the Tx ID here.

Although I'm kinda doubting that HashFast is a serious company.
But on the other hand I had doubts about KNC too.

And I agree it's better to cancel miner #7 and move to HashFast #1.
Seems like more people are interested in 10GH/s obviously.

Status Update

9/26/2013 3:05:00 PM

Just a couple of quick updates from us at KnCMiner.

The big news is that all the production orders that are due for delivery before October 15th have now been confirmed with the factory for final assembly and our production schedule is now locked. As such, we are not able to make any more changes.

Over the past few days everyone who has requested shipment via UPS have had their address details confirmed and altered where needed. We still have many customers who have provided incorrect VAT details and we are contacting everyone affected by this, if you are not a registered company with real VAT number, you will have to pay VAT at the relevant rate.
We know that everyone is keen to see more photos and videos of the products and production so we will be releasing our launch video in the coming days. Look out for more news as it happens!

Thanks KnCMiner Team

I feel like I've asked this before, but are we part of the before October 15 shipment?

Well if you come home to find a bunch of boxes piled high, now you'll know what they are  ;D

It's not too bad but far from ideal.. Hopefully the USD rate keeps going up.. I'll run these miners into the ground :)

KNC has manufactured about 1400 miners so far. Order #17xx may be produced today. It will take about a week for DHL to deliver it to US from Sweden. We will be hashing by end of NEXT WEEK.

If that is not the case then why arent there Saturns in the KnCMiner Earnings Calculator?

Also i see that KnCMiner Miner #5 is making profit, but not KnCMiner Miner #1. I figured Order #1760 would start mining first. Why is this?

I understand that you are probably busy right this moment. Patiently waiting for this to be cleared up.

Forgive me if this has been covered already, but with the higher hashrate each share will be above 5GH, correct?

For simplicity's sake, if the weekly average for a given Jupiter is 500GH then a 1/80 share would be 6.25GH.

Thanks!

Correct, Miner 1 Saturn & Miner 2 Saturn are now Miner 1 Jupiter.
There aren't any Saturns listed in the Earnings Calculator.  ???

What Calculator are you looking at because I'm lost. My calculator ONLY shows calculations for 1 Jupiter- what do you mean Miner #5 is making profit but not Miner #1?  ??? ??? I do not have separate calculators for different miners.. on top of that, why would I? That wouldn't make sense since they all have the same payout (dependant on weekly earnings of course) but the formulas are the same. Each Jupiter share is 1/80 earnings.

This is the calculator you're looking at right? https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0Aro5kZOF0sPGdE5PbmRpczEya1FUU0F1bTBRZm1oLUE#gid=3

WH
Okay i got ya. Two Saturns are now a Jupiter. The calculator question i asked was only if the Saturns were still part of this and not merged into a Jupiter. So basically ignore the first part of my post.

Miner 5 (https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0Aro5kZOF0sPGdExReXEyUVBSN19ZVnZnamRZWV8yREE&usp=sharing) is the only miner so far showing "Total Earned" and "Payout" values above zero leading me to believe that the people from the last group buy are getting their miner set up first. Wouldnt it make more sense for the addresses in Miner 1 (https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0Aro5kZOF0sPGdG5uMWU0Q1JueW1WWjh6TGlYSUdGOWc&usp=sharing) and Miner 2 (https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0Aro5kZOF0sPGdDFxRVpCcnpJVGUtU3c2SFZFTm9mZWc&usp=sharing) to be showing "Payout"?

Miner 1 (https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0Aro5kZOF0sPGdG5uMWU0Q1JueW1WWjh6TGlYSUdGOWc&usp=sharing) | Miner 2 (https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0Aro5kZOF0sPGdDFxRVpCcnpJVGUtU3c2SFZFTm9mZWc&usp=sharing) | Miner 3 (https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0Aro5kZOF0sPGdHdKa1Q3SzhOY1gycDBZLWZDQXE5TUE&usp=sharing) | Miner 4 (https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0Aro5kZOF0sPGdGZWcEpZcHVSc3FoaldSRnNqOEJpVEE&usp=sharing) | Miner 5 (https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0Aro5kZOF0sPGdExReXEyUVBSN19ZVnZnamRZWV8yREE&usp=sharing)

I mean no disrespect by posts, i am just confused. Sorry if is coming off like that. Thank you.

get on get on the #kncminer chat

setup your backup pool on each machine for those inevitable DDOSs

I've not paid much attention to the enablecores process since I don't have a machine to play with. Luckily you have several so you can compare a working unit with a problem unit.

GOOD LUCK!

*Note- I let the room heat up a bit (no fans, ac or exhaust) and noticed the hash rate went up about 10GH/s on each unit.. hrmm.
Phoenix and Soy posted that 55C hashed higher than 35C, temp-wise.

Stats are back up and running.

And this guy seems to be quite knowledgeable:

ps, even at the server it is showing improved hash rate....thanks phoenix1969.

I also, what I noticed the with the increased heat the output current has increased...which is what I suspect as a culprit for some miners, or rather a low output is indicative of a problem.

But now with the temp rise, what has happened, the chip with disabled cores is down to just 1 disabled...

I've been tracking a similar line of evidence for the last couple of days through my experiments with BFGMiner and various firmware levels.  My theory is that on my underperforming board (and probably many others' out there) the issue is cracked solder ball joints due to the shipment of the machines with the heatsinks attached (soy, among others, have surmised the same so I'm not taking full credit on this idea).  All the jostling enroute flexed the boards causing the solder defects.  The higher temperatures allow some thermal expansion of the solder which might temporarily "glue" back together the microfractures allowing better connectivity.  The fact that the solder is also a bit softer at those temperatures may aid in that.  I'm not an industrial electronics engineer so maybe I'm talking out of my ass here, but that's the best explanation I can come up with so far.

That also means that it *might* be possible to repair the boards with the (in)famous cook-the-pcb-in-the-oven trick.

But that cooking-it-in-the-oven thing would scare the bejeesus out of me, personally.

Miner 4 stats page is up for me now.

And this might bear reposting:

Anyone know why the voltages on our 3rd Jupi are higher than on the first two? I believe that as a result of the voltage being higher the temps are also higher. Also it is my understanding that if the Output Current is close to 0 than that die isn't hashing right? Also on this Jupiter I see a ton of these: "[time stamp] KnC: accepted by FPGA 1-21 works, but only 0 submitted"

I've tried .95, .96. .96.1 and .97 and .96 gives me the best performance so far, but at these voltages/temps. Also I did press gently on the copper bars of the heatsink and that seemed to have brought a couple die Output Current on par with the rest, but as you can see there is still a couple that are around 0. After downgrading to .96 this most recent time CGMiner restarts every 20 minutes, but the hash rate starts around 500-550 and drops to 350-380 before CGMiner restarts. You can see the stats here on Jupiter 3: http://54.243.221.120/

I've asked KnC for an RMA, but I'm hoping I can avoid that if there is a fix for this.

Any ideas?
YOU NAILED IT
I have a sat that has been acting funny, and had the temp phenomena...
I pressed on the copper bars, and instantly saw the jump.
I placed a wedge at the top of the heatsink to add a tad more pressure on the asic
it now works great.
Thank you for sharing that.....seriously!

120 GH per chip = 480 GH total

miner 2 = 360 GH
means 1 chip is dead

miner 3 = 240 GH
means 2 chips are dead

dat true???

Question about the 5th miner that's coming in.

Let's say there's no issues with this one, will the hashing power be split to make up for the defective machines, or will it be dedicated solely for those who paid for the fifth machine?

It shouldn't be shared with the previous machines, they've been hashing (at reduced rate) but they HAVE BEEN HASHING and making profits for THEIR share holders, are they going to share their profits with the miner 5 owners?

Cool deal, just let me know if you ever lean that direction.

If you're in an area that doesn't normally suffer blackouts due to weather, it's not a must-have option.
My neighborhood, even though it is in the middle of town, is prone to construction-related outages and it's nice to have the internet and wifi up and running during blackouts.  ;D

The miners would need heftier backups, but in a rural area $2k in UPS optioning would pay for itself in a couple of 24 hour blackouts on a 15TH farm lol (assuming internet service doesn't go down also)

I didn't get to miner 5 just yet because this was bugging the **** out of me. I got all miners back online- mining on Eligius with FW 98. Give it a few to catch up but looks like we're good.

On top of that ... ALMOST EVERY MINER IS HITTING 550!! (except Miner 3 with the 2 bad boards).

Okok- opening up Miner 5 now and will get that setup  ;D

Concentrate on Miner 5 now! No rest for the wicked! Hopefully #5 is the best of the lot!

Completely understandable and required. I doubt you'll get a stink out of anyone, it's not hard to sit back and realize that even though you're not billing extra, so to speak, we are in fact also receiving your time and effort getting and keeping these running, with all the time and headaches that entails.
I agree you should setup a donation link on the webpage. Heck, link it here also.  :D

On a different note - how did the thermal paste on the heatsinks look to you? I noticed a couple of owners changing it out on their units. But based on the past few weeks I'm assuming there can be a wide discrepancy between different customer's units.

It's going to vary because of the actual earnings decreasing.. but to give a ballpark $240 is close to the 5-7% range.

Is it $60 fee per miner per week? Can you clarify?

But $240/$60 = 4, not 5 miners??
Or I am missing something?

Yep, IMHO it is completely reasonable to increase the fee because we get more gigahashes now than planned too.

And thanks again, Waldo, for your excellent management.

Firmwares get released and change a lot of factors. Wattage being the 2nd most notable. With FW .98 I'm pulling about ~850W at the wall- [I was under 600W when we first started] at .31cents KWH thats about ~$180 in

.31 cents KWH!!!  Where are you located Hawaii?  That is some expensive power costs! Can't image having to pay that much!

He's in SoCal. But even with the on-the-higher-side electricity costs, we come out ahead. Heck, the latest FW raised the consumption at the wall but also increased each Jupiter by a stable 50GH.

I am unhappy with the unilateral increase in management fees from 3% to 7-9% overnight. Had I known he was going to charge 7-9% fee, I would have gone with other groupbuys. I understand that his electricity cost is sky high; however, if he knew his electricity cost is so high, maybe he could have found another hosting service somewhere less expensive?

Currently, he's going to charge $60/miner/week, that is $60*5*4=$1200/month for all 5 miners. With difficulty skyrocking every 10 days or less, we are not going to have too many days left before all 5 miners generate less than $1200 a month.

This groupbuy is becoming less and less palatable for the shareholders.

Will do.

I'm located in the heart of Southern California- when/if we EVER have a blackout, it's no more than an hour or so. I can't even remember the last time we had one!  :D

With that being said..

Miner 5 is now LIVE and hashing at 550. http://eligius.st/~wizkid057/newstats/userstats.php/1HxjezW7hXRxfBRCW4iY1FeCjd73z9J7sY

Every single miner (other than the one with 2 bad boards) is now hashing at 550.

This KnCMiner GB is officially up and running. I will RMA the 2 bad boards on Miner 3 today- I wanted to first verify Miner 5 was solid.

Note* I made a small remark in regards to fees on CoiningSolutions.com - I will be re-writing how fees will be charged - it will no longer be a 3% charge but rather a flat fee. Why? Well, let's just say 3% doesn't even cover the electric bill since these are now pulling almost 850W at the wall.

This is in NO way for me to make a profit at all- this is to just keep the miners in the green.

I will make a formal post in a bit with all of the details.   :)
Just want to let you know DZ and I and Thomas are having to do the same with our miners- use too much power to be covered by the hosting fee. We will be moving to flat fee per miner, based on power usage.

Also... .31kwhr??? Im paying .061 down here...

Don't wanna clutter your thread with nonsense. (I'm not even a waldo KNC shareholder)
But have you thought about getting solar panels for future mining projects?
I have heard that solar power is getting increasingly popular in Cali.

Just wondering, would it be possible to talk to the electric company about somehow lowering your bill? Maybe switch to a business account or something? I honestly have no idea if this is even feasible but if it is then it might be worth a shot.

While solar is coming down in price, there would be a lot of upfront cost that would be borne by WH, plus it might run the risk of us having to turn off the miners while the panels are being wired into the electrical circuit.

If I buy Jupiter November Shipping $4995 + Hosting 12 month in KnC $3960, I will pay $8955
(.55btc/6.8gh/share)

No shipping charge/time
No additional monthly fees
24/7 Monitoring by KnCMiner staff

Right?

waldohoover,

no hard feelings, I thought I would let you know that as a shareholder I wasn't thrilled with the fee hiking. You have a high electricity cost and has to cover it, I understand it. Not a problem. I would not want you to pay it out of your pocket. I just wanted to have an open and honest communication with you and so far you have been great in communicating with us and I appreciate your honesty.

It just came to me as a shock that your fee would double or more than promised. And I had to register my unhappiness with you. That's all. If you were in my shoe, you would react the same.

Carry on.

$60 per miner per week ends up being about $1.33 per share.

Not a monumental amount of money for services and electricity rendered, IMO.

GUYS! http://eligius.st/~wizkid057/newstats/userstats.php/16SvHVtEsNQ6ipHjK9AY9Ar3zB7GU9otee

Soooo the thought of having to send back 2 bad boards was really getting to me. That would be like ~$100 to send it and would probably take a week or so until we got the new boards back.

Well, I decided to buy another PSU.. I will-call'd a new PSU from Newegg and picked it up today from City of Industry.

I removed the current PSU- replaced it with this one but ONLY hooked up the 2 bad boards. Booted it up, 0GH/s. Ok, that's what I expected.

Swapped out a 10-pin cable- changed positionings on the controller board and tried 1 more time. 17GH/s. Wait, so it's alive?

I flash .95 , enable cores. We're seeing 40GHs?

Flash .98- flash enablecores, rebooted, powered off- connected all 4 boards this time.

400GHs+. WTF?!  :o  :o

I'm about 10 minutes in on testing.. we're at ~485GH/s people. These boards have not ran long enough to really burn-in just yet..

So now, here is my question.

Do we still send them the boards (they technically are under-performing still) or do we bite the bullet and hash at ~485GHs with this one?

Obviously this is all up to Miner 3 share holders.

Also! Miner 4 people- as you can see, we're chugging along around ~500GHs.. the above question is also directed at you. What do we do?

Please, everyone let me know what you're thinking!

Keep them... until till they act up again but it's just my opinion and im not in this GB but i wish i was lol :) Thanks for all your hard work waldo!!)

I think it is reasonable to stay with 485 GH/s. We will lose a lot of haspoewer now at lower difficulty if you send the boards, and if we get them, it only adds 60~70 GH/s after all. And maybe it will burn in later too.

...

I say lets keep those boards for 2 weeks and see if difficulty stabilises a bit (or at least slows down in rising). If it will be stable we could think about sending it back. If it will keep growing exponentially "burn them to the ground" ;-).

may I also add my words of appreciation to your great work waldohoover  ;D
thank you sir for the awesome work!! gotta save my wallet out of my dying harddisk and then will make sure to send a donation your way  :P

I'm having thoughts though about mining in general as a strategy to increase ones portfolio and would like to know what you guys think. I think with the increasing value of btc a ROI on the dollars is a guaranteed thing, but not a ROI in btc. Like I think if the current hashing rate stayed constant then we will get the btc that we invested back in about 6 months, and with the crazy increase maybe we will be able to get only half back?
On the other hand, this crazy exponential increase in hash rate has got to slow down at some point. So if my goal is to increase the amount of btc I hold, it seems to me better to just buy them and wait instead of mining while the hash rate is in the exponential phase right?
But again, now we have made our investments, and it worked out great that everything went right and waldohoover done a great job even more than I anticipated with all the nice websites and tables etc. Are you thinking about how to go on from here? Waldo do you plan on going on with this business with next gen miners next year?  ;D
cuz I'm thinking like, this was only the start of getting into the mining business, and if I just purchased the KnCMiner shares and that was it, then I actually had better just hold on the btc instead of getting only half of them back after several months. But maybe the only way to actually make a positive btc profit with mining is to use the current wins to purchase next generation equipment with better efficiency and stay on the front of the wave while the hash rate acceleration starts to slow down and I'm guessing only then would we be getting a ROI on the bitcoins. What do you think?

Title: Re: [CLOSED] CoiningSolutions.com KnCMiner Shares ฿1.05=5GH/s [CLOSED]
Post by: id10tothe9 on November 07, 2013, 09:51:49 AM
that's perfect my friend!  :D
here is my thought/strategy, the best thing to do with mining is to be mining with the highest efficiency, ie. the newest equipment generation. And while the acceleration will be slowing down, the return of investment will be increasing. So I will be using what I invested into mining, the returns, to purchase the newest equipment available. I don't care about using the btcs I get back, I will be investing them into the new generations and repeat the process. At some point, maybe mid next year, the technological barriers of chip size are reached and I guess the hash rate won't be accelerating like today but much slower. Then a btc ROI will be possible, even if in 6 months. At some point then there will be a steady income of btc because the network has matured and hash rate will be constant or increasing just slowly.
I think this is the only strategy to get more gains from mining than just buying and holding.
So I'll be participating in all of your future group buys that's what I'm sayin'  ;D
btw, do you plan to make like an email list for participants who are interested to get updated when you have news or upcoming purchases? I don't want to be missing out on the next one or be too late to discover the next gb  ;D

Cheers and congrats on this successful endeavour!

Finally each share of KnC how many GH has (aprox)?

I am doing the calculations of the produced coins per GH and for the results looks like each share has 4 GH, I was believing each share originally was 5 GH but if the KnC is producing 550 GH we should have over 6.82 GH per share.

I am not saying nothing bad about the Waldohoover, just trying to figure why if we have 550 GH why is not getting mining results according to that mining power.

I got 0.03429643 BTC (1 week) for 1 share of the KnCminer #5 Average speed 546.47 Gh/s. with that power we should be generating 0.5379 per day. in the stats I saw just yesterday we did 0.59 and the days before between 0.19 and 0.49 but the average is like 30% under the optimal mining results.

May be I am doing something wrong, may be is a problem with the pool, or the hardware really is under performing.

All the best

TMC

They were! Since I changed to a "flat fee" for electricity and as long as the USD rate goes up all of your dividends will remain higher than assumed ;)

With that being said- all dividends for today have been paid! Sorry it took so long, I've been watching: http://www.c-span.org/Live-Video/C-SPAN3/

Honestly I'm expecting the price to undergo a correction, but BTC is BTC! Either way I think the exchange rate is going to be higher than everybody assumed. It's kind of nuts looking at the transaction on Blockchain and seeing that .16BTC is around $100.

Yes, there was a power outage on my street and we haven't been up since yesterday. Powers back but internet on both companies aren't. I'm working with Time Warner and AT&T and seeing when internet will be restored. I'll have payouts as soon as that is up.

not everyone has an unlimited data plan, or a smartphone.

Is there any issue today with the miners, a problem with the stats server, or have the miners switched to another pool due to stability issues?  I would check the live feed, but it looks like you may have disabled it?

Yes, there was a power outage on my street and we haven't been up since yesterday. Powers back but internet on both companies aren't. I'm working with Time Warner and AT&T and seeing when internet will be restored. I'll have payouts as soon as that is up.

Sorry about the downtime.  :(

With the amount of capital invested in mining hardware and power infrastructure a Wifi Hotspot device would not be a bad idea as a backup.  You could run the miners on a temporary basis should the power go out with a Verizon Jetpack device or similar for another carrier.  Downtime is VERY costly.  Have you considered changing your strategy for hosting the miners?

I know when you originally started this project you probably did not intend on hosting as many as you will have come Springtime.  I bet you could find a hosting provider that would be more profitable for you (especially considering the cost of power at your locations) and shareholders while having better power capabilities and redundancy.

There are routers out there that support a 3G connection as a backup if the main line goes down.  My company has a Cisco with that capability at a remote office. Only uses 3G if main connection goes down. Zyxel also makes a similar router I believe.

Hey all,

Internet will be back up by this evening.

I'm working from a friends office today- brought the PC w wallet so I will do payouts within the next couple of hours.

I'm def open to the idea of adding a 3rd ISP - Satellite wifi. We can discuss options for that or if anyone knows reputable companies please share.

Ok, off to doing payouts.

Aren't satellite internet options expensive? I feel it would be better to get a cheap 3G/4G wireless plan that comes with a hotspot and run things off of that.

3g/4G was cellular i thought? as far as that goes, t-mobile has a nice pay as you go, $30/mo for 2.5 GB. you just need a GSM compatible hotspot.

Thats pretty much what I'm looking at. The Miners are all hooked to a switch so I need to get a device/adapter that pushes out ethernet as well.

if you have a openWRT capable router with a USB port, its mostly a problem of setting up teaming.

That would work.  Most 3G/4G devices are wifi.  I am running my miners off a Verizon 4G JetPack with a wireless bridge.

we would need a sizeable storage unit (flywheel?) to get more than a minute or two of use if power at his house died, so no point really. other than telling... undesirable elements that yes this house is worth robbing.

Well - I started mining and using it from home this month.  I keep having to bump up my limit  >:(  but that is not just from mining.

My new house can not get DSL yet due to all the ports being full so this is a stop-gap until it is available.  I work at home and use it daily.  I haven't tracked the mining traffic.  I have it at 14GB of data right now for me, my family, and my miners...

You made payout on Monday but apart from that all we can see is the boxes have been offline for over 2 days now, unless they are mining on BTCGuild.  If that is the case can we get a link to the stats there please.

Thanks.

Guys I apologize for this long shitty week. Service techs literally just left and internet is back up.

I'll def have to look into a 3G/4G backup because now AT&T no longer services this part of the county.. and they were the 2nd back ISP after cable.

As you can imagine, after days of no internet, I've got plenty of work/catching up to do.

Just wondering, are you able to access Bitcointalk from a phone? I think people are just mad that there's not a lot of communication.

Also, what's the status on divs? Should we expect a 50% drop compared to last week, a 30% drop, or what?

Were you able to set the miners back up? I know you might be really busy but even just 5 minutes on here giving us a status update would be nice.

Would it be possible to go with a 3G solution? I don't know how much bandwidth the miners would consume, but you could potentially get a better deal.

Not really. 3g is being phased out and 4g is the new default- on top of that, theres no way that I can operate(work from home + miners) on a 3G connection. I think the $$ difference would be single digit dollars anyway.

Going to check AT&T, Verizon and T-Mobile and compare.

I picked up a MiFi device on ebay so I didn't have to sign the contract for a subsidized device.  I am using Verizon since that is the best signal here.  You could also try the pay as you go model since you would only use it if needed.

Not sure- we'll take it day by day for now. Maybe in the future KnCMiner may offer a trade-in option for new machines.. who knows.
That would be something to look forward to. Personally though id rather keep it and run it into the ground. We might not be getting much of a payout now, but thats relative to the exchange rate. I dont mind holding my payouts until they are worth more.

for me is a big surprise: not a single announcement of Jupiters being shutdown.
I have to verify but I think this is the less profitable GB I was in. I'm in 2 more group buys with Jupiters and, even if margins are quite low, they are still give me something!
Very disappointed :(

At first i was confused because i thought i missed a payout, but you just sent it with the last one.
 ;)

Cant wait for the big news!

It's been about a year since I began this journey of 'Group Buys' to which when I look back, this last year has been crazy, joyful, stressful but amazing overall. I have learned and grown so much and it all is because of this community.

As a thank you to my first time ever investors I will be running a thank you promo beginning in July. All payouts will be doubled throughout all of July for all Jupiter share holders and beginning August all fees will be dropped from $240/month to $169/month.

So, yeah, to the ones who still read this thread: Thank you!   8)

And to the ones who don't.. well, enjoy your July :)

Its August! Will the lowered fees let us turn the Jupiters back on?
