Some people love to stay in fancy 5 star hotels. All the time during their vacation.
Some people don't really care and they stay in cheaper ones - saying a bed is a bed.

As for me I love to roll around a new country, staying in bed and breakfast hotels (cheaper the better) and to take real deal relax time staying for a few days in a great hotel.

Depending on the destination country. If you go to Bali in Indonesia, there are many cheap and comfortable hotels in the middle class

Dusit Thani seems like a nice hotel. I do not book often on Dusit Thani before because it looks like expensive. but then I tried Trivago and it shows that it actually not that expensive at all. It seems right try it.

Do you stay in Dusit Thani in Bangkok, Thailand? Or anywhere else are the place you like to stay in

I traveled Finland all over mostly driving a car, a very nice country and people are much warmer than the local climate.

I normally look at the reviews rather than staying in one hotel company exclusively.

I prefer renting an apartment. Hotels are too small and crampy for my taste. And for the amount of money that you'd have to pay for a reasonably sized suite you can just rent an entire house.

I have never had a bad experience with the Western Inn and they are in just about every state. They also have AMAZING free cookies at night haha!

Right. It is always cooler to rent a villa in a resort place. 2-3 families combined would be less people on premises and more pleasant things for the same square foot.

 But usually  renting a house or an apartment -  landlords require a longer term like 2 or 3 months at least.  Deposit needed and stuff, it is hard for a few nights stay, isn't it?

You will be able to find short-term rentals in every travel hotspot in the world. You can rent entire mansions or small apartments even for a single day if you want to.

Of course it'll be more expensive than renting the same place normally for months or even years. But it's usually cheaper than a hotel, especially if you choose to split the bill. Definitely a better option than going to some shabby hostel if you're travelling in groups. Unless you're into meeting strangers.

I got your point BTCMILLIONAIRE. I just started  to like your idea more. Sounds cool really. I just didn't look at this from this prospect.

And meeting whoever - yes, I'm into it when travelling, especially meeting with cool local people.

You usually don't meet locals in a hostel though, just other travelers. When I was in Japan I usually stayed in places where only locals went though, so I totally get your sentiment on this.

And it's funny when they don't speak English and want to communicate. Many cool encounters happen

I actually spoke enough Japanese for that to not be a problem. But most of the other exchange students complained that it was difficult to make native Japanese friends, which I found funny. Because the Japanese kept approaching me themselves. Ended up hanging out with a lot of them on an almost daily basis, so that was quite a lot of fun.

I had huge problems in France though. They speak way too fast and my French was shit back then. Even worse now.

It's cool you're fluent in Japanese. I am ok with German, complete zero in Japanese, and  French I know only a few basic phrases, but when talking to French guys, they asked me where did I learn to talk French, most likely were flattering.

The same story when you go to a country their language I don't know. And not too eager to catch. For example in South-East Asia. I'm in Bangkok and it's a few hours ride to Cambodia or Vietman or Burma. In a few hours I can grab their hello-thanks-buy. But the people I really need usually ok with English.

When I travel, I love to stay in cheap Hotels, the cheaper the better. But the food has to be top notch! :D

Ah yeah, when I was in Thailand and China it was impossible for me to communicate when they didn't speak English, which they often didn't in China. Quite the adventure...

I wish I had enough time to learn more languages, but there are too many other interesting things to do. And soon we'll all have a Babbelfish anyways. ::)

Right. And an option like McDonalds or Subway should be available too when you're fed up with local delicacies!

Yeah!  BabbelFish is the great device to develop and to try ICO to attract money for its development. And we will need to require it like 42 for a piece, because the right answer is 42! :-)

Traveling around the world is a very nice experience. And it's never be the same traveling again if you know www.trivago.com. There, you can search for any available hotels nearby at a cheaper but very classy hotel.

so I can keep my diet routine

this is an interesting opinion. I usually like to stay in such because they have quite abundant buffets and I don't need to think about cooking or whatever - at least closer to the end of my journeys.  And it's reasonable if you stick to your diet for sure.

For me this depends on how much money I want to spend at the hotel and on where I am. In some places I prefer to eat at different restaurants every day, to try as many foods as possible. But sometimes I'm too lazy and just want to eat when I get 'home' or before I leave.

BTCMILLIONAIRE, yes, that's an excellent approach!  I do the same but preferring to have a breakfast and maybe (if skipping breakfast) lunch at 'home' - and to dine out in various places at evenings or nights.

Last time I rolled all down from Colombo, Sri-Lanka to beaches in the South of the island, them after enough of surfing and 'looking at whales' we went  up to their mountains there and stayed for a few days in Trincomalee (after civil war Northern part of Tamil Sri-Lanka). And me and my Wife were tired after that run around - and stayed back in the capital city Colombo for 5 days, And we stayed there in 5 star Cinnamon Hotel, in Colombo. That was awesome to leave our 'backpackers+' traveling style and stay in a really nice place.

I love hiking in the mountains when I happen to be near some. Wish I had more time for that. There's also an island in Japan that I want to visit, with naturally glowing mushrooms that look quite surreal, and dolphins that you can swim around with.

And breakfast isn't really possible for me, I can't get up in the morning no matter what. So I usually don't book the rooms with breakfast included because I know that I will only go once or twice at most. Fortunately the scrambled eggs at breakfast buffets suck, they lack caramelized onions and cubed bacon, so I don't feel like I'm missing out on too much there.

For me, quality of hotel is everything.. Because it can change my mood to be better..

I don't like hotels in general. Prefer a good short-term rental to enjoy the city. You also cut costs which is great but I think you get some better spirit of the city. Further, i like to do my stuff such prepare my dinner and so on so it's a win win game.

My last experience was in a tree house in Sacramento (Uruguai). Amazing stuff. You don't get this kind of experience within hotels.

for me the main thing that there was a bed and a shower. The rest I can endure. I can even sleep in my clothes, the main thing is to sleep.

OK if it's you alone who can endure even bad smell from you.

I like staying in Airbnb rooms rather than hotels. I like the idea of making friends with my host instead of feeling isolated in a hotel room, plus it is usually much cheaper. In my recent trip to Costa Rica, I scored a room for $9/night compared to the $40-50~ hotel rooms in the same area.

I said I love travelling around a country to make friends and to learn from locals.
AND - to stay and get really 'relaxed' in a proper ***** [five-star] hotel.

I mean people sit and toil for a whole year or half a year - to do what?? To save another buck? Come on - it's rather weird to save money the whole year and to get crappy service in the end run.  Unless you mean to be mean to your Lady and  your kids - I don't get ya, sorrz!

To be fair, I get the appeal of spending less on accommodation. If money is a serious constraint, you can get a cheaper place and use the money on high-end food instead, which I would prefer over a high-end hotel if I had to choose between one of the two. In reality, I wouldn't really leave without being able to afford both though, since I don't like spending money if it's a significant amount of my total savings.

Depends, if i'm traveling with the family, I tend to use nicer hotels or chains being that usually the experience is the same from city to city.  If I'm traveling alone, I'll get adventurous and book a little mom & pop place.

I usually look at the rating on TripAdvisor, because in each city it could be different best one... I would prefer to stay at Four seasons every time, but it's too expensive  ;D ;D ;D

I would prefer to stay in a cheap hotels than a luxury hotel. You only sleep at night there and in the morning you go around to see the places that you like. I just need a place where i can take a bath and sleep though. Thecheaper the better 😂😂😂

LOL  My sister stayed in Vista Hotel in Pataya in Thailand. She didn't like the town - and I bet her impression was smeared by this.

You could remedy that by spending the savings on a luxury spa weekend if money is a constraint. ;)

Yep! Fancy spa is definitely the Option!

I stayed on Bali, in Seminyak - in a newly built hotel but not too expensive hotel - it was OK, but too noisy each night partying people. So me and my wife, we took spas and massages each night.

And in any other place I'd switch. But with that hotel - the awesome beach was just a few minutes away. I couldn't quit this place - for the opp to ride early morning waves.

A bed is a bed to some degree it need not be the fanciest but also not the worst ever. As long as it functions and is semi comfortable it is good enough for me. Same with the hotel and living dwelling it does not matter how

nice the place is as long as the activities I get to do at that place are of worthy nature.

I loved visiting traditional Japanese inns with natural spring baths. The food is absolutely incredible too. Can't wait too go again, unfortunately I'm way too busy lately.

Come on - I'm jealous too - never been to Japan.

What places could you recommend?

Depends on your personality. Most people seem to like Tokyo, but I found it rather boring since it's just another mega city to me. Sure, there's Akihabara (which was quite fun and interesting), but it's fairly small.

My favourite place was Kyoto by far. There's pretty much everything within immediate reach. A modern and bustling city, lots of nature (forests, water, mountains etc.), traditional temples and shrines, traditional housing areas, and most importantly the probably best food in the whole world (insane quality, variety and mastery of cooking). It's especially beautiful during autumn (red maple trees) and spring (when the cherry trees blossom).

Hokkaido is pretty nice during January/February or whenever the Sapporo Snow Festival is. Definitely worth checking out too. There's very little in a human life that gets close to the experience of soaking in a steaming hot spring in the mountains while surrounded by snow.

Okinawa is pretty nice too, islands and beaches with a unique culture.

I have found the beds at the NH Hotels to be the best of any hotel https://www.nh-hotels.com/ - better than Ritz group etc ...

It's clear, to rest in good hotels is very comfortable. But such hotels of the super class are not affordable for everyone. We have to choose good middle-class hotels

Cool strategy. And the local good food you can always find in a local good restaurant. To eat out there or to buy take away food too.  A good grocery store in a neighbourhood can never do any harm for sure.

And I disagree - I'd rent the best available apartment. Otherwise what's the deal - you work and toil for what ? To save some more or to make a great choice for temporary lodging. I take the second option  - this way each my trip is a cool adventure.

maybe you can stay in ibiz hotel, ibiz is cheap and good hotel, this hotel is divided in several big cities

If you are not a fastidious person, than search for a backpackers hostels.
There is no place better for one who want to explore the city culture, hang out with locals and find a company for a journey)

Depends on the country I'm travelling to. If I'm going there merely to relax in the hotel, then I will get a good one. If I'm going to explore the country, I will just book a simple hotel just to take a shower and sleep in.
