Out of curiousity, why bother making 1 gram rounds?  The markup on those has got to be unbelievable, relative to the amount of metal you're actually getting.  Do these have any special qualities, or any tie to bitcoin besides you've used the branding?  Also a to-scale picture might help, as its likely not everyone understands quite how small this item will be....

 *baffled by the premium/size thing*

So a US dime is 2.5 grams and 90% silver, which means that by the silver content alone (2.25 grams), the coins you're offering here will be 44% the size of a US dime....

I imagine its probably the difference between investing $150 bucks of silver for 100 1 gram coins, and $4000 buck of silver for 100 1 oz coins.

I am hoping that if these sell out and the OP sees there's a valid market, he will consider making bigger coins.

Would you buy a coin less than half the size of a dime?

If it was half as think, probably not half as round.

People do buy smaller amounts of silver.  5 grain bars.  Not that I would.  But there's apparently some market.

Hi there .... Good points , yes the pics here do no more really than drum up a little interest. There is a Market for the 1 gram silver rounds here in the uk.

1 gram .999 silver round size = 15mm by 0.75

Keeping in mind silver bullion in the uk is taxed 20% , the premium on a 1oz .999 silver round here is around 40% over spot. The premium on a 1 gram round is roughly 105%. this premium you pay when you buy and get back when you sell.

Is it a silly idea to buy 1 gram of silver? The buyer decides. Similar to buying 100 1oz rounds rather than a 100oz bar . Paying the premium And having 31 1 gram rounds rather than a 1oz round allows a person to sell a small portion off at a time. Which may be of use if the price reaches the heady hights investors expect/hope.

Why 1 gram? , simply comes down to cost , I can have 1000 of these produced for a relatively small amount of money , in comparison to a minimum order of say 500 1oz rounds which would cost in the region of £15.000 .

I heard about bitcoin via the silver u-tube community, where it caused quite a stir with both positive and negative reactions . I myself quite like bitcoin , I'm still looking at ways to implement a bitcoin cart into my site. (struggling with that at the moment-zero programming knowledge:-)

1 gram silver bitcoin? It's a take it or leave it art round , simply a vehicle to carry the value of the silver , a bit of fun , talking point , it may help promote bitcoin within the silver bullion community , it will not change the world I'm afraid. you could by one and drill a tiny hole in it and hang it on a chain . You could buy 500 of them with your bitcoins and save them for a rainy day.

If it's not for you I quite understand , I have broad shoulders and won't be offended , the price when I offer them will be the price ,the premium the premium ,it will include the silver , the die fees , the transportation costs the labour costs to produce them , my profit (I need to make a small one) .

Mick

How about selling a special initial run for bitcoin paying buyers only, with a numbered certificate or similar for added customer value (and potential future collector's value)?

Not a bad idea , I'll give that some thought. Maybe a printed card to identify the silver round(s) are from the initial batch of 1000.

It would make a nice conversation piece in the future, when a bitcoin buys you a ten kilo bar of silver. A bit like having a slice of the 10000BTC pizza, maybe... :D

hey maybe this is a great idea, sell infintesimally small amounts of the valuable part, and just make sure you market the shit out of it and have lots of "authentication" documentation. See if you can get a ratio of 32:1 grams garbage:value  - That would be an excellent money making proposition since this seems to be something people want lol.

I still just fundamentally don't get why anyone would want to buy a silver coin less than 1/2 the size of a US dime.  Are you going to clearly state what part of the payment is for the metal, and what is the premium?

Title: Re: 1 gram .999 fine silver "bitcoin" rounds . Available 6 - 8 weeks

I still just fundamentally don't get why anyone would want to buy a silver coin less than 1/2 the size of a US dime.

The diameter is 15 mm vs 17.9 for a dime.  So I don't think it'll look that much smaller.

Anyway, I buy stuff that other people think is totally stupid.  Other people buy stuff that I think it totally stupid.  I've got a neighbor that gets boxes from QVC three times a week.  That's ridiculous from my perspective.  But I wouldn't say there's something fundamentally wrong with my neighbor.  Different strokes for different folks.

Title: Re: 1 gram .999 fine silver "bitcoin" rounds . Availability see top of thread

The idea of including a card listing "issued from first batch of 1000 produced" wouldn't act as a certificate with extra premium loaded on top , rather just something that could be issued for a couple of pence , no more than the cost of a business card

It sounds like a dime would be an ideal way to stack silver in fractional form . There not readily available over here in the uk .

currently a 1kg silver bar from http://www.bullionuk.com/ in the checkout (which adds the vat of 20%) comes to just over £1000.00 .
That in real terms gives a good idea what the metal price of one gram would be with a low premium
i.e. £1.00 per gram.

Current spot price on kitco is .79p per gram , that's the paper price

.79p per gram - is the value in none physical paper terms
£1.00 per gram - based on a 1kg bar (uk)
£1.68 per gram - based on a 1 gram round

The bitcoin rounds cost me £1.22 each plus the die fees of .29p per round . (The cost of the die fees can be spread out over this and future orders).

Minimum order quantities on these will be 10, pricing should be on or around -
Less than 30 rounds £1.68 each
30 rounds or more £1.58 each

These 1 gram rounds should look pretty cool , there a good introduction to silver . Some collectors are switching to fractional silver rather than having large individual pieces . 1oz though remains the best size I think. If silver continues it's rise , countries continue printing paper money . 1gam , 1/4oz 1/2oz silver will become more and more popular as a more affordable alternative to a 1oz coin or round .

just one question, actually two questions:
1) the pictured coins in the first posts, is this the actuall design of the die and design of the future coins?
2) the next batch of coins would be a slice cheaper? (once the die has paid for itself?)

just teasing in the 2nd question, i know that dies have a lifespan, can not be reused for an unlimited nr of coins
thinking about getting a lot of those, instead of poker chips and plan to buy on regular basis, try to plan the spread in time

I'll post the black and White design shortly, the design in the first image is what the face will look like with the reverse having a different background with the 101010010's circling into the background. Easier to see than describe .
If the silver price doesn't rise , once the die fees are digested , the lowest price in theory would be around £1.49 each .
Doing a completed listing search on eBay (uk) 1 gram bars and rounds typically sell for between £1.99 to £3.50 i realise though this reflects the eBay/paypal fees. And also doesn't represent value for money

I do recall buying 100 1 gram .999 silver rounds from eBay around 18 months ago in an auction for £65.00
So they can prove to be profitable over the long term.

Just noticed you have got the Eagles in now as well Fantastic.

Will 100% be placing an order at the start of next month for and eagle or 2 and hopefully the others. Are you planning to take any pre orders for the 1g rounds?

Just thinking: If I sent you 100g of silver (100x1g bars), what would it take for you to make me bitbullion out of these?

:-D

there's long way from a bar to a coin - first to form into a metal plate of desired thickness, then cutting blanks and finally hit the blank with a die. thus the costs for extra work and recycling costs for the metal plate rests left after cutting out the blanks. if you could mail in 1g round blanks of the right diameter it would be just work + die use .. thinking loud but basically any coin production goes like this. interested in the answer as well.

These are being produced by a third party (mint) on my behalf as ptmhd illustrated well , you really need all the right gear to produce these quickly enough to keep the cost down as low as possible.  So directly melting your bars to produce rounds wouldn't be possible. As i buy and sell silver it would in theory be possible to buy 1gram "bitcoin rounds" with your 1 grams bars if indeed they were .999 branded bars say from cmc mint.  I would advise however to sell the bars on eBay for instance rather than to me a trader. This would give you a better price which in turn would buy more of my rounds   ;D

btw can i buy the other 1g rounds now, ask you not to ship them and use them as advance payment for the btc rounds? you would get your money now, i would get away with a fixed/known price. the problem is that the existing are priced at 1.49. how much should i buy to have 31 reserved?

My 1g bars are Valcambi Sheets (LBMA good). Since I bought them "wholesale" I imagined to just "pay you" in the equivalent (ie silver itself), since that would mean a significant markdown for me (as opposed to trying to rip someone off via eBay, conver currencies etc etc).

So my idea wasnt to have my bars formed to bitbullions, but just pay with silver. silver is money, right?

Like 'em but the premium is 80-100% that's a little to high for me (with regard to them as an investment).

But as a gift or something they seem really nice.

Well the way I see it I have paid nothing for my bitcoins and got more silver out of it. So its 100% pure profit and yes electric has also been paid out of my profit as well and my rig is paid off.

I have never bothered with 1g before (normally troy oz) I like my eagles and maples. I only have a small silver/gold stash. but if silver price keeps going up I think they will be worth it. Also I know I could resell them on Ebay and make my cash back.

The smaller the coin the more you pay over spot. Plus if bitcoin does tank or does very well its a nice little reminder. The more people offering goods and services for bitcoin will add to its value.

So as a investment its not to bad

Really glad to hear they've arrived , I've posted out to the uk ,Europe and the USA , so I will be very intersted to hear how long they take.

Yes I think these 1 grams work out at just over 90% over spot , here in the uk for 1oz .999 silver bullion the best price is spot+40% this is 20% vat and 20% premium . I think I'm right in saying in the US you can get your silver at near spot price ?

I guess a bitcoin round is a very niche Market , you first take a group of bitcoin "enthusiasts" then divide from them any who have an interest in collecting bullion. even from those a 1gram will be of less interest than a 1oz .

Least the 1 oz. and above.  It's pretty much barely over spot in most cases. I've seen as low as ~2% from reputable places to purchase 1 oz. silver rounds here in the U.S.  So for us, your prices for us Yanks is a bit high, but I definitely bought yours for the novelty of it.

I think your pricing is reasonable for what you were offering.  Definitely a collector's item for me and definitely worth paying for the investment, work, and effort you made into making these available.

For people in the US that want one coin, I'll gladly sell you a single coin for 0.5 BTC.  Just keep in mind you can get 10 for about 2 BTC from the original seller.  The minimum quantity isn't all that expensive.

Title: Re: 1 gram .999 fine silver "bitcoin" rounds .
Post by: Mjbmonetarymetals on July 30, 2011, 11:06:05 PM
We can only dream of silver bullion for spot + 10% here in the uk . Typically a 1oz round would be spot + 35-40% (20% of that being vat) at very best .

I could sell them individually , but then they would really be expensive . Just to cover my time alone , to invoice pack post etc.

I recall a couple of years ago being able to get 1 gram rounds for 60-70p each over here , so they can in theory be profitable in the long run. Typically the premium remains with the round , you pay it when you buy and get it back when you sell   , but I do agree core position wise you would go for The cheapest most cost effective option , which wouldn't be a 1 gram silver bitcoin.

To be quite clear on my costs , as I stated earlier in the thread , in real terms I'm making 20p per round , this just covers the die fees on this first batch of 1000 .

I'd like to buy as many of these coins as I can.

However, the current markup over spot of nearly 100% is unacceptable to me.

I realize the premium for small coins can be exorbitant, and is accepted by collectors and small time dealers; however I consider them just "bullion" so I don't like to pay more than 10% for spot. I'm sure you are aware that most traditional coin shops will charge you 6.5% or so. From that standpoint would you ever consider minting oz or kg coins? ty

I don't think that's a fair comparison.  Even in the US, if you just want to buy rounds as cheap as possible because you only care about the bullion, that's going to limit your options.  Good luck getting an ASE or a Panda for the same rate as that round that celebrates the Penguins 1992 Stanley Cup championship.  You don't get to complain because there's some tarnish.  You're stuck with the leftovers.  Which of course is fine if you only care about the bullion.  But you don't get to have it both ways:  You can't pay rock bottom prices and pick any coin/round/bar of any size that you want.

I agree with this. It seems silly to post on a thread selling very unique bitcoin rounds, proclaiming that you only care about the bullion.

Believe me, I have bought a lot of old currency (90% silver) on Ebay for under spot throughout the years, but this is very clearly not 'just bullion'.

Mine were shipped on Wednesday July 27th, 2011 to the U.S. (West Coast) via Royal Mail.
Arrived on Wednesday August 3rd, 2011 -- So 5 business days.  Royal Mail claims 5-7 business days 'on average' to the U.S. so I was a bit on the 'earlier' side.

Rounds look great and all arrived!  Thanks, Mick!  I'll save up a bit more and order from your second batch!

These are cool little items.  I wouldn't mind having a few for souvenirs or to use as party favors or put in Christmas stockings.  But as an investment?  Probably not, at least not in any great quantity. This is why.

The coins are 1 gram silver, costing 1.5 GPB each.  So I did a bit of calculating to come up with the price in dollars per ounce, which are the most common units cited in commodity pricing....

1 gm * 28.35 (conversion to ounces) = 28.35 oz
28.35 * 1.5 GPB = 42.525 GBP per oz
42.525 * 1.639 (conversion to USD) = 69.7 USD/oz

Today's commodity price for silver of this quality is just under $39 US per ounce.  Coins do cost a bit more than the commodity price for a precious metal.  However, American Eagle 1 oz silver coins were just over $43.00 apiece on Friday.  I didn't find any other commodity silver coins available for purchase, but for comparison, the gold commodity price was at $1,649/oz this morning.  1 oz Krugerrands were running from 1,680 to 1,750 apiece, with Canadian Maple Leaf and American Eagle 1 oz gold coins priced similarly.

Purely from the standpoint of an investment in precious metals, the $43 silver American Eagles are worth exactly the same amount as between 28 and 29 1 gram bitcoins costing around $70.   Only you can decide if the coolness factor is worth paying the premium, of course. :-)  But I recommend keeping in mind that, if the 1 gm silver bitcoin is considered as an investment, it is an investment in something akin to artwork or jewelry.  The metal value alone (as with jewelry) isn't worth the price.

This has been discussed a few times in the thread already.  I won't get into whether they are a good or bad investment.  But the price and premium is comparable to other 1 gram bars and rounds if you search around.  You're paying the premium for the size, not for the bitcoin artwork.  You get that for free!

P.S. Just an FYI, coins silver is weighed in troy ounces, so there are 31.1 grams in an ASE or Maple Leaf.  Worth knowing if you invest in precious metals.

I quite agree that a 1 gram round wouldn't be the product to build a core position in silver , also as these are shipped from the uk , they have also being subject to 20% v.a.t. which we pay across the board over here on our silver bullion  >:(
By way of a comparison Monarch precious metal in the US produce a 1gram round , admittedly this appears to be hand rolled hand stamped etc. http://www.monarchpreciousmetals.com/.

There pricing is -
Quantity   Price
1 - 249   $2.83 (£1.72)
250 - 749   $2.51 (£1.53)
750 - 9999   $2.19 (£1.33)

As the rounds are designated with weight and purity, they could be considered investment grade  , each round has metal value + premium , the metal value may rise or fall depending on the Market , the premium in effect is paid for when you buy and is passed on when you sell , as the price of silver rises the the premium portion will look less apparent. it could be classified as jewellery perhaps if it were drilled and hung on a chain ( I did design the text on the round to allow for a small hole to be drilled avoiding the text on both sides)

Im in general agreement with the view of the post above , I hope that this 1 gram silver round acts as an introduction to silver for somebody who up to this point is unfamiliar with the idea of storing away bullion  , which may prompt that person to begin a collection.
And to anyone who already has there core position in place , a 1 gram round could in the future, in a worse case senario of world economic meltdown , fiat money implosion , be a very handy tradable size .

Post by: ErgoOne on August 07, 2011, 08:35:53 PM
Oops, right -- I got the wrong ounce in the calculations.  :-)  However, the right ounce actually makes the silver bitcoins a bit worse as an investment.

I didn't check prices on silver by the gram as actually available from dealers, but I did check the prices of coins as available from dealers and delivered to you.  (In other words, you own not pieces of paper saying that you own them, but the objects themselves.)  So at least at the 1 oz level, the premiums on individual coins are not all that steep.  They probably would be steeper for smaller purchases, however.

At any rate, that was a good exercise in using a spreadsheet, something I don't do as often as I probably might. ;)

Above is a very close up image of one of the rounds from the 1st batch of 1000
The image below is my original artwork
The red and blue areas are where the die makers deviated from the design . The second batch should have the area marked in blue removed and the area in red included . The die will also be given a mirror polish which will be reflected on the rounds surface (unlike batch 1), which in turn should make the "B" stand out more. . I will post fresh pictures of the next batch when they arrive. I was keen for the die makers to make new dies for the next batch , this does not mean batch 1 were in error rather they were a Mark 1 , with a run of 1000 , with the next being Mark 2 , run?.........
I have made enquiries about a 1/4oz silver round , sizing on those would be approximately 1 inch , minimum production run is 500 , (125oz total) this would require an approximate outlay of over £4000 or $6500.

Don't forget that there is some just reasoning for a premium on price. If your buying these with BTC which were mined on your own rig then you know the cost of those BTC and it's not likely the current BTC price so say your cost is $4/BTC and the going rate is $9BTC your already to the good. Second your transferring those BTC more or less anonymously to a third party in another nation who is converting those bits of data into a solid physical item which you can then resell. Lastly you can sell that silver and unless your doing it in bulk to can do it just like the rest of this entire transaction, under the radar. There is some value in anonymity.

Has anyone had these coins appraised for purity and weight?

kgo - good point !

Zerokwel -   ;D

2weix - glad to hear they arrived , the die makers agreed to make fresh dies at no charge , if there had of being a cost , I would have been happy to keep them as they are . Maybe there might be someone who would like to buy 50 from you?

Jbdive - if anybody who has the silver rounds , has a way of accurately testing the rounds for purity. I will offer a few free rounds from the next batch to cover chemical tester costs (wiithin reason). I know there .999 fine silver but a post regarding this from a respected member can only be a positive thing in view of the recent issues with scams and dishonest practices etc .

Naypalm : thanks for posting there arrival  :D

I might have a test kit sitting around from ebay silver buys (I don't trust ebay). Will dig it out as I moved house and its packed somewhere. The coins sound right for being silver (if you know what I mean) they have a different sound than normal coins. (don't worry about the extra coins)

Yes, this is why I generally only bought US Currency on there, normally not in pristine condition. I do not trust the really sterling looking rounds on ebay AT ALL

Certainly not suggesting you are scamming anyone but any type of certificate from a known source or a trusted minter can only add value. The only thing that's kept me from buying silver in bulk from various sources vs. strictly minted US coins is with US coins you can trade outright vs. having to have silver rounds assayed. Ditto for gold.

Case in point I have a 2002 and 2003 American Silver Eagle, Uncirculated Dollars. These are 99.93% Silver. Bought for the overpriced value of $12 each, now worth $50+ or $40 in melt value. Typically with US coins, some foreign ones as well such as Krugerrands, there is no need to have an assay or certificate when trading. If selling for melt it would depend on who you traded with but unless silver explodes in pricing there will remain more valuable as coins than as silver melt. On the flip side I have silver coins in bulk that would be traded for their simple melt value and not as a 1959 dime for example, kind of sad actually.

Have you considered using a known mint and doing bars with a certificate?

is it the same 6 to 8 weeks from the last lot ?

Damm What's this thread doing on page 3.

Anyway Found my test kit and burst the bottle after standing on it whoops. Anyway after making a mess on my floor I can say these coins are high grade silver.

I did not have a doubt anyway regarding the quality of the metal.

EDIT it was a cheap test kit I used and showed 90 to 100% silver due to the colour of the liquid. So if anyone knows of a better test kit let me know as I need one for my ebay buys :)

so anyway Mick sell me something :)

Well done ! Thanks for doing that, at least it's an indication of purity , hopefully a more accurate result is possible at some point , I'll send a couple extra as I said when I've got the next lot, hopefully a week or two tops.

..... Im working on a site that accepts bitcoin (only) for bullion, bitcoinAg.co.uk  , Where I'm hoping these silver bitcoins and larger ones will be available, it not live yet , just a work in progress.

About 250 of the 1000 have been reserved from the next lot , which will be dependent on people accepting the quote once they receive it .

As the silver price is on th Move , There's a distinct possibility that the next batch will be 5-7p more than the first lot ,

................I've just been emailed an image of the next batch just this second , I think even though the image isn't as clear that the couple of changes have made a big difference, what does everyone think? , Just waiting for a reply on when there shipping .

sooo you buy 1g of silver @ £0.95/g print it with dies front and back each around £75 usually prints 3000 coins
nice $$$$ technique

Absolutely !! It would a great addition , the only issue is minimum mintage as these would be struck at a mint rather than myself , I'm not clear on what that mintage is as yet on a 1 gram gold round but the outlay would be substantial . I was toying with the idea of a quarter gram gold round but this would probably be 5-6mm  ;D which would nearly require a microscope  ;D

Yeah, gold has higher density than silver, so for the same weight, it would be smaller.
What about 4 grams?

Hi echo2 , if you could give me details of where I can get 1 gram silver rounds here in the uk for .95p each . Does that price include our uk 20% tax on silver bullion , I would be very very  interested .

And a side question, how much would those cost, if it's in pure gold?

i'd be more worried about the size then. gold almost 2 times heavier, they would be thinner and smaller if we talk about 1g.
if the weight could be more, let's make them at least 1.55 gram, the diameter could be the same and only have them thinner (not the same volume). dies could be reused (hope so) so the premium could be a hair less % than for silver coins. if the company does also gold coins : )

EDIT it was a cheap test kit I used and showed 90 to 100% silver due to the colour of the liquid. So if anyone knows of a better test kit let me know as I need one for my ebay buys :)
nay, only cheap kits around. there's an elegant method involving acids, that would separate silver from copper and other base metals and results in silver powder that you can weight. it depends on your skills and tools (precise scales, working methods)
downside is that destroys the coins (or what ever you dissolved) and has some toxic gases as byproduct (to be done rather on balcony or garden then in a cellar). the pH of the waste solution can be easily neutralized and the waste is safe enough to be disposed at a communal recycling facility without alarming the firefighters and police. the base metals can be also recycled from the solution. i don't have the equipment to trustworthy essay the coin (could be 101 % if some dirt makes into the dish with final powder ;) ). mick mentioned the manufacturer, i believe they have a kind of quality control in place and guarantee the silver content

Mick,

Just sent you an e-mail to reserve at least 50 for me, possibly 100 from the '2nd mined block'.

Also, if you do any larger rounds than 1 gram silvers, (1/2 oz., etc), I'm definitely interested! -- Same goes for any Gold rounds you may or may not decide to do ;)

Cheers,
Kermee

what about coutermarked coins? overstrike of existing coins would be cheap and had no minimum mintage :)
... and you could overstrike any size (1/4 oz, 1 oz)

and the fun. wouldn't it be nice to have the liberty walking towards the shining bitcoin? or the eagle holding a bitcoin in each claw. lots of space for countermarks on coins.

Emm ok sticking with the cheap acid test it is then :).

few drops if it goes creamy its 90%+ silver if it does something else its not. I like keeping things simple for me :)

I'm going to look Into further sizes , and the possibility of gold , as I say it's the minimum mintage , Ive previously made enquiries about a 1/4 oz silver round which would be approximately 1 inch in diameter , the minimum mintage is 500 or 120oz heading up towards £5000.00 .

Counter marking , that i hadn't thought of , I wouldn't get into hot water defacing legal tender so to speak, something like this  ;D

Ok , in my case the .95p per gram you stated was £1.11p this last batch of 1000(ordering in batches of 3000 would reduce this a little) including the vat is £1.33 per round , the vat does I fear put me at a geographical disadvantage I'm afraid (which has been covered previously in the thread) , but I didnt let it put me off having a round produced , I'm making them available worldwide payable in bitcoin , not just to the uk.

The first batch of 1000 would have just covered the silver cost and die fees , had it not been for a couple of unfortunate incidents , one involving my bitcoin , the other due to not moving funds out of Britcoins exchange quickly enough and getting caught out with the bitcoin price drop a couple of weeks ago.

Thanks for recommendation too !!

If you make a larger size I'd be a customer, as long as the premium wasn't outrageous.  Investing the £5000 wouldn't be a complete risk because even if you couldn't sell them, you still have the silver, which is appreciating in value rapidly.    And I think you'd have no problems selling them.  The coinedbits and other base metal "bitcoins" are novel but I want a real silver "bitcoin".

I am not a big fan personally of the hockey puck rounds and they always seem well beaten up. And don't fit in my damm safe storage cases. Its more for hardcore coin/bullion collector than me. They are just a odd shape the 5oz ones more so

Amark Bars are always nice tho.

I just grabbed a 5g by accident; the LxW dimensions of the 5g and 10g are the same.  Granted the density of gold is slightly more than silver but should be able to get very similar dimensions.

I missed the last few posts ( didn't get email notifications for some reason ) anyway .............

I also missed the delivery on the second batch on Thursday so they should now be arriving today . Before I change the out of stock status on the thread I'm going to buzz through all the quotes so hopefully they should start showing up in your email boxes later today , I'll include a picture of the new rounds in the email

The pricing is going to be £1.55 each this reflects the price increase when I locked in the order a few weeks ago , using the same premium from the first batch added to today's silver price they would be £1.61 each.

When you receive the quotes , if its possible to pay as soon as possible, and email your confirmation of payment , this will let me cash out through the exchange as quickly as possible which will protect me from bitcoin price fluctuations (which got caught up in last time).

Thanks Mick

Pricing on Type 1?
What would be small quantities?

Small quantities, I would say 1 or 2.  3 Max.  Over that, you're better off getting them from Mick.

For people in the U.S. (Prices are inclusive of USPS First Class w/Delivery Confirmation):

  • 1.00 BTC or 55.55 SC per Type 1, 1 Gram .999 Fine Silver Round

All the Type 1's are still sealed in the original bags that Mick put them in.  The ones I'd sell will have never been opened by myself nor anyone else.  If nothing changes drastically on USD/BTC or SC/BTC by the time I get the Type 2's from Mick:

  • 0.80 BTC or 44.45 SC per Type 2, 1 Gram .999 Fine Silver Round

Like people have stated in the past, it's only about 3.125 BTC to purchase 10 of the Type 2, shipped.  So please keep that in mind; you're going to be paying a premium if purchasing from me.  Also previously, the rounds were going for 0.5 BTC a piece.  Type 1 is 'rarer' now and Type 2 is priced according to the change in BTC/USD since then (~$14 USD/BTC) hence the BTC going from 0.5 to 0.8 BTC.

Cheers,
Kermee

buy 1g rounds from me. I've ordered customized post stamps and you'll get the mail with the (hopefully) first bitcoin on a post stamp (ever ; ))

here's the preview, what is in the highlighted area will appear on the post stamp:
http://thatuselessguy.com/archiv/stamp.png

I'll try not to push the prices down and charge .30 btc for postal service / delivery
and somewhere between .41 to .50 per 1g silver bitcoin. more or less the price starts at .50 per type 1 piece, .49 for type 2.
each additional type 2 coin is .02 btc 'cheaper' than the previous, valid for 2-5 coins. so 2 would cost .49+.47, 3 would cost .49+.47+.45 etc.
type 1 only 1 per order.

edit: the shipping fee is usually .20 btc but since the bitcoin stamps cost extra, i pass the price difference of the stamp to the buyer
shipping with a normal stamp is still a valid option i just don't see the logic of ordering a bitcoin and not choosing to have it on the stamp as well.

I think I was 'lucky' though...

Cheers,
Kermee

I'm not totally sure of the size of a quarter , about $11 if it were .999 silver ?

You can see below how your $11 silver has performed in the past. I would suggest that anyone interested in investing in silver beyond having a couple of 1 gram silver bitcoins , should research the fundamentals , many believe there's still time to get your seat reserved on the silver express before it takes off . Silvers a finite resource huge quantities are ending up in land fill , investor and industrial demand is rising , silver is in everything from cell phones to bandages to solar panels.a good starting point maybe this video

 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E5VNAEmmBQM&feature=youtube_gdata_player

Sep 2011 $11
Sep 2010 $5
sep 2009 $3.85
Sep 2008 $3.40
sep 2007 $3.08
Sep 2006 $3.00
sep 2005 $1.70
Sep 2004 $1.70
sep 2003 $1.28

Sep 1968 $0.49

Im still working through minting costs , it's likely I'll be partnering with a distributor in the US to be able to get these closer to spot than I'm able to due to the 20% vat , which I'm sure most people would rather not pay outside the uk . Plans are underway as we speak. Hopefully if everything goes according to plan these will be available , the premiums will be more than that of an eagle , maple etc etc. In all likelihood .

I've been expecting both gold and silver to dive from current highs.  I'll probably invest seriously once they're back down to a reasonable level.  (IMHO the current level absolutely screams "bubble".)  But I didn't buy the silver Bitcoins as an investment in anything but making some family members happy.  It will do that. :-)

Gold yes but I'm not sure I agree on Silver. Inflation adjusted it's cheaper than anything else right now and far below the famous Hunt Brothers bubble. I am very curious as to what the thoughts are on the crash this past week. Although gold will be the news items silver fell 20% and was IMHO already under priced in comparison to gold. I am very tempted to check out some local coin shops next week to see how they have price adjusted for the fall.

I am very curious as to what the thoughts are on the crash this past week. Although gold will be the news items silver fell 20% and was IMHO already under priced in comparison to gold. I am very tempted to check out some local coin shops next week to see how they have price adjusted for the fall.

I bought a few eagles on Friday.  Figured if it bounces back up, I've got them, and if it drops more I'll buy more.

But yes, I think the gold sell-off triggered sell-offs in other precious metals, rather than this being a legitimate market correction for silver.  When gold was climbing like crazy over the past few months, silver wasn't climbing in lock-step.  It wasn't getting any sympathetic rise on the gold action.  So hopefully silver will bounce back with people buying on the dip.  Still, a year ago it was only worth $21, so a continuing drop or sideways action isn't completely unrealistic.

had my eyes set on an AmericaTheBeautifuil 5oz set. Cost 240$ each a couple weeks ago. Snatched them for 170$ now. Some Philharmonics, as well.

I like! No we can rise again.

You see the report about 200 tonnes of silver found from WWII shipwreck? They expect to be able to start recover next year.

Market types say a correction was expected, news of an overall slowdown means less need for silver and other metals. I question all of that though when you see a 20% drop, that kind of shows big boy selling so I wonder if some banks didn't unload gold/silver to raise cash as well.

COMEX also raised margins due to volatility, which basically forces investors on the edge to automatically sell off.  Same thing happened when the price hit 50.

I was on holiday last week. Was there margin raise for silver and gold? I remember the rise from 27% for silver lately. Did they change again?

OTOH i was postponing a purchase so the drop is nice, dealer prices dropped almost 20%/me likes

I don't mind the 1 gram coins -- they're smaller than U.S. dimes, but not so much smaller that you can't keep track of them or enjoy the designs on them.  However, I would not at all mind seeing some larger coins, and some 1 gram coins in other precious metals such as palladium, gold, or platinum....  Just an idea, if you have the capital and the demand to justify it. ;)

I've only got a couple of type 1's and 2's myself  ;D

but that's an excuse only, isn't it? I remember you used an exchange to fix the exchange rate to avoid this very thing.
I think your pricing was broken (too low) and you wanted to offer best deal possible. I remember your cashing out schema because I used you as an example of a seller type accepting bitcoins, avoiding exchange risks and adding pressure to the exchange rate every time he sells something.

Quote

I did not remember posting it here : )))
but I think I never sent you any.
are the dyes for sale, btw? I just asked local mint for quote for 1 gram rounds. will probably fail because they
a) are a state company, probably not dealing with small private customers
b) do not offer minting of things smaller than 27 mm
was wondering how much a restrike would cost me (read Type III)

I think your right on the price, also if I had of kept hold of the bitcoin till now I would have done much better. At the time I was torn between holding them and selling them. Essentially I needed to cash them to fund more stock so I should have done that immediately, but inevitably on most occasions I held onto the bitcoins call it short term greed just long enough though to hit a price drop every time .i was selling them all through a period where the bitcoin price was stair stepping down. All a good learning experience no fault on bitcoins part rather my own judgement.

Ok so the original dies........ These where produced by the Cmc mint who still hold the dies, as I think I mentioned in the thread I had never limited the type 2, so those could be made available, however the typr 1's are out of bounds as I stated clearly production of those where limited to 1000.

Not sure if you mean type 3 as a fresh design, it might be better to pm or email me.  you could take the route of dealing with the cmc direct in having more of the type 2 produced by them after buying the dies plus rights from me the dies originally cost me $295 , alternatively we could look into having them shipped to you.

I designed these but they where produced by Cmc mint, a couple of months ago I made contacted Cmc mint as a respected forum member wanted to take over the dyes and continue with production. It appears that they have changed owners since they were produced so I didn't get anywhere in talks with them regarding handing the dyes on and re-starting production so as I stands there's only going to be 2300 of both types in total. (I've got a couple but there not for sale I'm afraid  ;D

I'm mainly selling the real digital Bitcoins via BitconFridge.co.uk at the moment

There's a large 1oz copper bitcoin art round that I designed that I believe is still available from Aocs mint in the US

I designed the copper art rounds, Aocs mint who I think are now called mulligan mint make them I never sold that many here in the uk they asked if they could resell them in the US , it's probably due to the fact I don't order from them now but they still sell them but they don't pay me the royalty payment they agreed. The same is true of a globe and gear copper round they sell . Note this is an old thread.

I would be cautious in using Aocs mint (mulligan mint) http://blogs.wsj.com/bankruptcy/2013/09/20/texas-coin-maker-for-fed-estranged-files-for-bankruptcy/

As I say they made the Bitcoin round and a globe and gear round from my design which they resold the royalties would then have been a discount on any that I purchased. They probably expected that I would have been ordering large quantities as that wasn't the case they aren't interested in paying any royalties now - looks like there still using the artwork though on a silver round, anyway it was only a gentleman's agreement nothing in writing.

Rob Gray, who "founded" AOCS is an interesting character.  I do not know him personally, only by reputation.  And have spoken with many who have had much more personal involvement.

He arrived on the Liberty Dollar scene and wanted to be the head of it, despite not having done anything.  Full of gusto he wanted to be given everything and made the head of national organization.  This candidacy was not supported by the incumbent RCO's (regional currency officers) to put it mildly.

As part of this attempt, he gained knowledge of the mechanics of the Liberty Dollar, how it is priced, the manufacturing basics, some knowledge of minting, and a lot of contacts.  At the failure of his bid to take over, he went off on his own and founded AOCS, the American Open Currency Standard which was based on the Liberty Dollar model...  By "based" I mean that it was an exact copy.

This was all well and good, the founder of the Liberty Dollar, Bernard von Nothaus had always been very free with his knowledge and expertise.  He is a great teacher and has more knowledge, creativity and expertise than any 10 others in the industry.  Where Rob Gray failed in basic ethics was in then claiming that he, Rob Gray devised this model and not its true architect, Bernard von Nothaus.  This lie alone should have been enough of a warning, but it did not end there.

Further to add insult to injury, Rob Gray then "decertified" the Liberty Dollar as non-AOCS compliant!  It would be laughable and entirely ignorable were it not for the concurrent unjustified legal prosecution of the Liberty Dollar.  When seen in that light was worse than adding an insult to an injury, it was a betrayal.  A backstab maneuver against one of the heroes of the evolving history of alternative currency, Bernard von Nothaus, to whom he owed everything that he had built.  This personal betrayal which came so easily to Rob Gray has been a pattern of his behavior over the years.

It is for these reasons that we have elected to not do any business with Rob Gray or Mulligan Mint, due to his lack of ethics, and his history of personal treachery, greed and narcissism.  Our condolences go out to Republic and any other who placed trust in this man.  I owe you an apology for not bringing this story more to the fore.  I never enjoy speaking ill of others, but in this case there is an obligation to police our own industry and keep those of ill-repute and untrustworthyness outside the circles of honest business so that people do not take risks for which they are not aware.

For those of you who have suffered due to your dealings with him, again, we apologize for not giving stronger voice to these suspicions.

They were a limited run which I only sold from August 2011 to June 2012, so pretty hard to find  ;D

let me mess with the supply a bit
found a bag with a bunch of those rounds.
probably for sale if you make an interesting offer

Hello,
I got one "one gram silver .999 type1" and one "one gram silver .999 type2". What are these worse as the for the silver I just would get 0,66 USD - LOL

REgards

keep them, seen them for sale for a hundred each

I'll offer a special hand-stamped Bitcoin Specie.
The most recent is the pizza-day stamped commemorative.
Silver weight for silver weight?

could not find them in your shop. did you removed them or is it me who can't search?

wow. are they selling at such price? I get it that there are only about 1000-13000 each but .5 btc is inspiring :)
at least inspires me to sell some, deliver insured with tracking number for 90 % of your price (free shipping for 2 or more) ;)

They sold like lemon cakes, removed them because I reincorporated and didn't have a receipt for them, which would make me liable for assfuckament amounts of taxes.
Might put them back on once that resolves.

there are 1oz bitcoin rounds and also gold bitcoin rounds here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=40190.0;all
for those interested ...

Those 1oz bitcoin rounds look like an advertisement for mybitcoinmint to me.  I'll wait for Mick's 1oz rounds that aren't self promoting and are more attractive IMO.

They were pretty.  :)

Crypto Numismatic 10-Coin Master Collector Set - First-Ever Minted Bitcoin Token

I heard a rumor this guy accepts bitcoin for a 15% discount.

These rounds have appreciated in value, by quite a bit now after 12 years has passed!
