Title: How to Manage Airdrops?
Post by: blogardianz on November 01, 2017, 08:52:08 AM
Hi All,

Quick question from newbie. How do you manage your airdrops? Did you sell it immediately? Do you sell half of it? Or just hold it until reach big exchanges?

Your answer is highly appreciated. Thank you.

it is always better to retain some (may be half or less) until it reach big exchanges, actually this is individuals decisions how they are managing their airdrops.

I HODL my tokens. Maybe one of them all will bring some profit in some years. Why selling for some "pence" when you have invested nothing more then your ETH addy or e-mail-address.

Since airdrops usually equals free tokens/coins, i dont loose any money if the dont succeed. With that in mind i store them in a wallet, fill out a document with info about the coin and store that on a USB. Then i forget about them and hope they reach high prices in a couple years  :D

Yeah, i am agree with you. But the problem is, they (Dev) usually very slow to added more exchanges. Probably, they need more $cash to get listed at better exchanges

I try to sell only when it produces an interesting gain (e.g: 100$). otherwise, i wait and checks the price evolution even if it appears the coin is a shitcoin (which have no future) since sometime the whale can make it pumps

Most airdropped coins never reach high prices, because devs are usually really incompetent and there's no real project/product behind them. There are few notable exception like eBTC and others, but are a minority. My suggestion is thus to sell as soon as they get listed on exchanges.

I like to hold the coins or tokens of airdrops. Most may never gain value but there may be one big winner. I think I'd kick myself if I'd sold that one.

It is prudent to store them in your wallet hoping that they will reach high prices after some time.

I throw them all into the same My Ether Wallet address.  I am not sure if it is a new feature or not, but the token link gives you the current price of the tokens.  If anything reaches a reasonable value ($25+?) then I usually sell for BTC.  I am not long in any airdrops, I just use them to increase my BTC holdings when and where it makes sense IMO.

It depends on the coin tbh. If it's a complete shitcoin, you better sell as soon as it hits the market.

Yah, we have the same thoughts about this. I've been following some airdrop several times, but most of them dump the coin when reach higher price. It's looks like money game so far.

I've just been holding them all, too.  I'd kick myself if one these "mooned" and I sold it for a few bucks.  Some look promising, some look like junk, but they are free, so nothing to lose.

I don't usually do airdrops to avoid being scam because some of the airdrops are scam, but anyways airdrops is same as bounty token, i think the correction question here is how can you manage your token that you can obtain in airdrop and in bounties, For me, I think that you should store it if you think that the campaign has potential, Like me, I think Electroneum and Deep Onion have potential in growing so If had those, I would store it for a long time, until the price is larger.

No exact way to do that, but mostly hold a bit until it has a decent price
You have nothing to lose though, free money, less pressure  ;D

Sell immediately it is not the best strategy, but it is simple and not the worst if you don't want to research token price, if you don't want to track moment of the price pump

Just like hodling an asset I am hodling it until the market of that airdropped coin will pump. That's how it is. That's how you will deal with the airdropped coins. They are also assets.

I watch them on Blockfolio and after they reach a certain amount (it depends on the coin) I will sell most of them. It't actually a little work to sell them and I'm pretty lazy most of the time, so I just hold most of them. But I can't recommend Blockfolio enough. It's super nice for unlocking your phone every other minute and seeing if something is moving... lol Honestly though it's an easy way to keep an eye on your coins.

Yeah, I love this apps too. But sometimes, blockfolio apps often have errors while showing the price. We need to refresh the apps each time to get correct price. Some New ERC20 token, often takes time to show up their ticker on that apps.

Same with me. Wait for more days, if that coin not increasing their value, then its time to dump it.
Currently, some airdrop events charge people to pay the ERC20 GAS. It makes some people less interested join the airdrop.

The amount received on airdrops is very little, so yes I hold. No point selling for pennies, probably some of them will grow in the long term, who knows.

Title: Re: How to Manage Airdrops?

I consider airdrops as "dividends". I would not have them in the first place without having the coins I have, therefore I don't sell them, just let them appreciate. It's fair for the project doing the airdrop as well, for example, OMG recently gave out a good portion of their total supply and distributed it to ETH holders. Would be a rough move if everyone would sell OMG after they got it and convert it to ETH, it defeats the entire purpose of the airdrops which makes the entire thing useless. Most projects do airdrops to simply increase their user count and for people to find out more about the coin and what it offers. Either way, since they are not worth all too much (depending on your holdings) it's usually not even worth converting them (time/reward ration is low).

I prefer to keep them in the wallet. Anyway, they came in free thus it is expected that many are shitcoins. But with keeping them; say for a year, the real deals will do justice to all your keeping.

Title: Re: How to Manage Airdrops?
Post by: eldub on November 02, 2017, 03:23:04 PM
Since they are free, I'll hold them for a year, in case any of them turn out to be worth anything. Costs me nothing to hold. Most will be worth nothing, but one winner will make holding worthwhile.

But to be honest, there are some new airdrop that bring some money, like LTG, ETG, or eBG. Unfortunately, they detected as scam token.

Hi All,

Your answer is highly appreciated. Thank you.

The best move is to hold them until such time when the company or team releases the product or service in the market. Because, if you would get rid of them early, their value is not actually the market value, but only on its initial valuation. Therefore, by holding it, you could sell it for more profit in the future.

I am mostly holding them and keeping track using blockfolio. The problem is now is so much shit tokens being airdroped so I am rather sure they will not be worth anything in the near future but I am willing to lose that 5-20$ in hope that at least some of them will be big and make up for all the shitty ones.

Don't trust airdrop tokens and don't think to hold the tokens for a long time .because they have no scope . Try to sell them when you feel the amount enough for you.

try to trade those token. sell your tokens gain in airdrops then buy other tokens which you fell will increase. Do a research about tokens you want to buy it helping you to decide what token to buy. and dont forget the golden rule in trading buy low sell high.

Recently watched a documentary film about the currency. There was a guy who had a lot of bitcoins on a laptop) You know what he did? He threw it away! When the price soared to the skies, he ran to the dump as wounded in the ass, but it was too late. At such moments, you think: "I'm not the only such loser")

Yeah, i agree with you, sometimes many new tokens don't have any great roadmap or scope. They only update site, whitepaper and wallet apps. Nothing special.

I think once the developer already earned the token it will likely drops the price. Yes, it is hard to trust and believe that the airdrop you received will become the price becomes high.

It depends entirely coin to coin but overall most coins I aim to sell some initially if the value is good and hold a portion until it reaches bigger exchanges or until certain landmarks in their roadmap are achieved.

I don't see any reason to HODL airdroped coins, because most of them are just made of air and don't have any real value. So in most cases the faster you sell them the better. Though, usually such coins are made just to be pummed, so sometimes I manage to sell them for x2-5 or even higher prices. I use Blockfolio to get alarms when a coin is pummed.
Just a bit of statistics for October:
Coins got - 67
Coins sold - 18
Total value = 1,745 ETH

So I should say that some airdrops can more profitable than bounty campaigns :)

What i do is keep it all as long as i can. But when families meed help financially, i just go and get small portions of my bounty coins and get the only the exact amount that is needed for the emergencies that may occur.. so yeah, that is what i often do with my bounty received tokens.

Some of airdrop have a good team , best future planning behind them. So to manage it just hold them. Check their progress on community. Usually developer use telegram for give info to the participan. And if the airdrop have been voted and registered to some exchanger, Im very sure the price of the airdrop become BOOOM. If you got that moment sell all you have.

I am a HODL guy when it comes to coins even it  is coming from an airdrop. My decisions are always firm to hodl these coins no matter what. I have and iETH and iBTC (for example) which i received from an airdrop and just look at it while its market value rises giving me about 180$ but now it plummets to about 50$ only. That's ok because that's the nature of hodling coins because i believe its market value will rise again for a better profit.

Honestly most coins that airdrop are junk, but you never know. Unless you have a significant amount of bitcoin or ethereum, to therefore have large airdrops, it's really not worth the headache about worrying about this too much. Simply let it happen, and maybe once a year login to see if any of the coins are worth anything. The ones that look like duds, transfer to an exchange, and sell.

Of course, everything depends on the project! But usually most people immediately sell their coins received from airdrops which makes the coin value cheaper. Usually, little money is allocated for airdrops to lure people to the project. However, there are still projects like Viuly. They use airdrops to distribute 55% of their tekhens. Perhaps they should not be sold immediately. In any case, an individual approach is needed everywhere! ;)

Why not manage airdrop coins the same way you manage the coins that you have bought with your own money? Research about the project and hold if you believe in it or else sell them.

As far as doing bounty campaigns daily i get my airdrop altcoins and exchange it into bitcoin cause usually some of then wont even last a year cause when we get paid by that new token it will be immediately become pump and dump and the price will reach an all time low in just a matter of weeks. But this is not mostly in some cases new tokens can gain good value in market.

Most of the airdrops are not of significant value so I will just hold them untile they are actually worth the hassle and transaction fee to be sent to the exchange for trading. Obviously if you have a large airdrop of high value, you might consider selling portion of it, in particular if there are more and more free airdrops coming.

It really depends on the token itself.  You need to access each token/coin and see the potential it has.  If it is one of these pump and dump exxx etherum tokens, chances are slim that they would succeed.  It is better off dumping these tokens when you know a pump is going on.  Coins/Tokens that have a roadmap, whitepaper, and plan; I would hold onto these coins as they may increase in value overtime.

Yes, i can say i agree with you. It's depends on the team also. Like Ethereum Blue (http://www.etherblue.org), they give big airdrop. I thought the dev will dump the price and abandon the ship. But now, ethereum blue still live and getting bigger community.

Airdrops/bounty does not mean that an ico is a bad thing. A lot of successful ICO do have their bounty campaign and airdrops. One example is CND.which has airdrops. However, the ico must justify why is there a need for bounty or airdrops.

For example, In appcoins case, appcoins have been trying to go into international markets so they use their bounty to get translations done so that it can target to different communities with the translated whitepaper.

if i see an airdrop is actually worth something ,i try to know more about the project .
if i believe it's going nowhere and it's actually tradeable on etherdelta ,i'll sell almost right away .
otherwise i'll hold and follow the value of the coin .if i see a sudden drop and anything suspicious ,i'll sell .
a useful tool to help you decide what to do with the tokens :

i still holding some airdrops but if the price is suddenly getting up then i will sell it to make free money but i don't sell all of my airdrops, i only sell 30%-70% from the total amount so i still have another amount that i can sell if the price is increase more high. beside that, if i still have another amount and if the coins is getting list in the exchanges, i can move the amount to that exchanges and i can sell it with the higher price than before.

For me to manage airdrops I prefer to keep them to my wallet. Anyway they came in free is better to retain the coins untill got high value.
Just check the wallet that you have then try to see if the price went up through coinmarketcap, it should only take a few seconds.

Nice idea! But I think there is a chance that coin price will drop, or maybe the Dev abandon the project?
How do you manage that case?

I will keep airdrop coin at least few month after it reach the first exchange. Because selling too soon and it have no value at all.

Same with me, but sometime I lost my patience if the dev now showing some progress about their project. E
specially now many projects that become a scam. Made me afraid to hold too long.

Coins from better ICO’s often list on even the smaller exchanges with a good premium, and selling some or all can be an option - especially if there’s another coin or token you’d rather have your money in. The price often then dips till the coin hits bigger exchanges or there is some other positive news or hype, and there is nothing wrong with holding the coins until then. If a coins price goes nowhere or your holding is tiny then there may the parcel you hold may not be marketable, and you’ll be stuck with the coins in your wallet forever.

I will thoroughly investigate and each type of token I am having and then I will decide to keep 100% or 50% depending on what I can find accurate information about the project and have a high growth rate in the future.  : 8)

it is always better to retain some (may be half or less) until it reach big exchanges, actually this is individuals decisions how they are managing their airdrops.

I've done it before. Sometimes if we holding a half airdrop tokens, the price can't bounce back to the beginning price.
My strategy now is dumping it fast, or regret later. Too much shit airdrop lately. Especially CNN tokens. They aidropping with no values token. What a shame!

my advice is to sell half and hold the other half. chances are that the airdrop token price will rise, but it will take time. soo dont sell it too fast. hold it as long as you can.

The question is,does your token has price the moment airdrop finished?to tell you the truth i dont rally believe in airdrops since most of this are scams, but if you think that the price of token is enough, then sell it right away,or else it may have drown after a while

to manage airdrop 50 percent hold 50 percent sell for preparation of the future pump price of the coin you hold.

once I receive airdrops in my wallet and there is any market available for us to sell the airdrop, I will then send it to that market and then prepare to sell because I am sure that in the first time, the price will increase so high. and I think this is my chance to sell at the high price and then I will wait for the price to down so I can buy again the coin for a cheap price. I think no need to take too long to wait and hold for the airdrop to up and down because many people love a free coin which they can sell it to make a free money too.

I prefer to hold my tokens that I got from airdrops as long as I can. I sell it full and after if the price will go down the half of my gain I buy the token if I see a potential if it can pump up again.

I have not used airdrop for a very long time, because from past experience I come across some kind of not clear project, which in the end is generally of no use to anyone. I do not know why I think so. But I have in my purse these airdrop so far 5 pieces that are not for sale

Can you give me and advice? When usually the airdrop tokens will pump the price? As far as I know, only two waves.
First wave when token reach Coinmarketcap. A second wave, when the token get listed on big exchanges.

Depending on the roadmap and usecase including support from dev, you can set your own timetable to safeguard your funds. Be careful of submission of personal life too.

I don't do anything to manage token/coin that I get from airdrop cause I even don't join any airdrop because I feel it's wasting time to join when I only get back trash coin/token and make my wallet become a trashcan. Maybe I'm not a lucky man cause as I can see there are a lot of people earn a lot of money from airdrop but for me seem like it's not work. LOL. I joined 1 or 2 airdrop before but they never listed on any exchange and until now, I still don't join any other airdrop.

Nobody still their airdrop tokens because they never received it.
I personally earned bad experiences on airdrops that most of them are scams and bogus so I really not into airdrops this year.
I admit some of airdrops are good but on my estimated frequency there are about one out of twenty good airdrops but if you do join them all, merely get but handful of tokens that barely valued.

Ask some friends if the airdrop you belong is legit because there are some airdrops are not legit, it is a scam because, you can get your tokens after their campaign and thats the time you will know how much token you get and you are wondering that you are joining lot of airdrops but you only receive a few token because some of your airdrops that you joined are scam. And there are times that the token given to you are does not have a value, so you will update time to time to check your token value and i have suggest to you to hold your token and sell it until the value of your token raise up.

I think it is always better to hold them for further growth , initially when I first started airdrop then shot them at once , and still remember one coin buyout led for a penny and now it costs 20000 $ , always spominal this is very disappointing.

Better not sell the coins you received as a result of participating in the aridrop, I did so with several crypto coins. I sold them for 15-20 dollars, and later they cost 2000-5000 thousand dollars.

It's true that most of the coins in the airdrop do not mean they are garbage, but you never know if the significant amount of bitcoin or ethereum has a large airdrop, you'd better keep it if you did not really money

it depends on what our purpose with the airdrop because we have different goals with the tokens. some of us still holding the tokens for a few years later but some of the other, sell the tokens when it gets a list on the market. and for me, I sell some amount of the tokens especially if I can see the price increase higher and I will hold the rest for another time. I see that the airdrop has the potential to get increase although it will need longer than the tokens from the ICO to increase.

I still no experience joining airdrop for there are more negative comments about it. So I don't want to try it for now maybe at the proper time I will participate. Incase I have token I will not rush to sell the tokens but I will try to hold it and wait for the limbo.

I am holding few tokens for a long term because I have confidence those coins price will increase after 1 or 2 years and recently whatever tokens i am getting from airdrops once it listed in any exchange i am converting it into ETH or BTC because i am not sure about those projects.

Actually, at this time it's hard to find good Airdrop coin/tokens. Most of it has no value and cheap price. So, honestly I not interested anymore doing airdrop. The last time Airdrop which still has a good value was Polymath token.

Yes, Polymath is one of many airdrop, the possibility of winning once more as Polymath current as you buy lottery, I find it time consuming to participate airdrop. While I can spend that time learning analytics or finding good projects

Airdrops are so small that i just store them in mew and forget about it. they are free so maybe in a year I'll consider selling or looking at how they are going. I'm much more concerned with the crypto I've paid for and how that is progressing.

It depend on how is the project behind the token. If you think it has potential I would keep it at least until the next big pump, or long term hodl if I really believe in it. Otherwise I would sell it directly on a DEX.

Hi All,

Quick question from newbie. How do you manage your airdrops? Did you sell it immediately? Do you sell half of it? Or just hold it until reach big exchanges?

Your answer is highly appreciated. Thank you.
most token airdrop results are very small and the price per token is so cheap that I rarely sell it because for the transaction cost is very expensive especially if I use ethereum as a fee, then I just collect and hold it later when I think the value is worth I will sell it
