How to find out about local laws about crypto currencies in a country? Do we have to consult a lawyer or are there any online resources that can help too?
In my country, I have not yet heard any news on bitcoin regulations or its status in the eyes of the government, so not sure if I can sell bitcoin and get the payment directly to my bank or not. Don't want to land in any trouble.

there is no regulatiton also in my country... if someone sell BTC, can deposit directly to bank account...

but central bank do some research on BTC and ALTs... so i think they r gonna make some regulations

Where do you live? There may be a regulation in your country or nothing at all.
Most countries doesn't has regulations about cryptocurrency, but consider it as asset or commodity.

You can sell bitcoin for cash and withdraw into your bank account if there's an exchange which support local bank in your country.

In my country having bitcoin isn`t prohibited, only by its regulation isn`t yet clear (floating). However, central bank will crack down only on the adopters only, such as shops, supermarkets and other buying and selling services.

Since bitcoin is starting to skyrocket and I got in pretty low (right after the china crash) I'm looking at the local laws in my country just in case bitcoin hits 10.000$. When bitcoin hits 10.000 dollars I would be willing to cash out. So what I've found on the local laws in my country is that you would have to pay a sh*tload of taxes when cashed out. Since the law is pretty unclear bitcoin is considered a speculative asset and therefore falls under gambling and I would have to pay 33.3% tax (which is straight up theft). I'll probably look for a good accountant to find me a better solution.

I think going to ask a lawyer is the best thing to do if it is available. But if not, mr. Google is always open to be consulted with, the news are instantly being shared through this channel. If in your country you haven’t heard of any news, it’s maybe your not watching enough on the specific news agency who covers about government policy. In my country there is a chance for you to ask questions to an attorney on the spot that is live on a tv shows.

Maybe the best thing to do is to consult a lawyer and ask him about the status of cryptocurrencies in your country or if he has no idea then you can just search in the internet or ask here in the forum in your local group if you have one maybe they have an idea of your status. As for my country, the government did not regulate yet cryptocurrency but they are aware of it since I have seen some news coverage about it and just warn the people to be vigilant always and investigate first where the people will put their money because it is a highly speculative investment and if in case they lost their money then the government cannot backed them because it has no legal implications yet.

This is the thing should really be done first since lawyers are always aware on the possible new regulations on any country which if you do tend to ask or consult about crypto then they can possibly answer you or not but would still depend on the level of awareness of the country into cryptos because I do tried out to ask about bitcoin on my friend which is a lawyer and he do answer me that he is already awared on its existence but our country doesn't still make a move or make a word regarding to it which it hasn't been banned or treat as an illegal stuff.

Here in my country (Philippines), there's no specific law pertaining to cryptocurrencies. There's no such laws are being implemented yet. But im sure we can still violate a law when using cryptocurrencies. Cryptocurrencies can be also use for crimes like money laundering and other illegal things. So it will be better if you consult a local lawyer pertaining to that matter. Because we have different laws because we are on different nation. Or you can search google about laws implemented in your country for that matter. Anyway, you have not given us your location. It will be harder for us to give you an advice.

you can try to visit your local central bank about the laws and regulations of the bitcoin aand other cryptocurrency, if hey are aware with that then they will give you guidelines and other documents to comply regarding cryptocurrency transcactions.Most common requirements are the KYC- Know Your Customer and AML- Anti-Money Laundering laws.

I see that bitcoin in your country is not legal but not ban but in order for you to have some information regarding local bitcoin status or bitcoin in your own country, you do research of your central bank news as every nations economic status regarding monetary and some national economic aspects will always depend on Central Bank affiliations, reports and influence as the rule of the Central banks is more on economics securities of the nation.

In my country, Philippines, Bitcoin is just still on development. There are still a lot of my fellow citizens that are not familiar with Bitcoin. But the government did make a statement about it. They said that they are happy with the Bitcion activities as it helps in the growth of the economy of the country.

This means that the government is planning to have full support on Bitcoin. And so, it will go with the flow of the increase of demand of Bitcoins in my country. It will also contribute on encouraging people to join Bitcoin.

If we are talking about small amounts the government doesn't track such payments. You will have no problems anywhere except those countries where there is no direct prohibition on the use of cryptocurrencies. Control over the income of citizens in each state are different. So if you do not pay taxes on these amounts then you can be prosecuted for tax evasion. It depends on the country.

Yeah, Im happy that bitcoin will receive full support in our country. Our government is open-minded about cryptos. But I just hope that our government wont have any plans about putting tax in bitcoin transactions. You know, BIR is expert in doing this.  ;D

I think even some lawyer (those ordinary) doesn't know about any local news regarding bitcoin, maybe those who works in main government office (big time lawyers) can answer your question. But that's quite hard because I'm sure they have NO breaks, they are always busy. But you can still try!
And most online resources are not accurate nowadays so be careful, but it will still depend in your country. In my country there are to many scam sites, news, so I don't know what am I going to believe in. ???

At this early age of crypto currency, the government has no intervention yet as to where to get involve in the business. The transaction of crypto currency will just grow by itself without the knowledge of the government.

In case of large amounts, I would consult a lawyer for sure. A lot of money coming out of thin air may be suspicious and you wouldn't want unnecessary attention. If there are no certain laws/regulations, definitely consult a professional.

Oh i see. so i guess not all countries are interested in bitcoin. But i guess their will come a time that they at least set some regulations because right now the main issue for that is its anonymity and their is a chance that the money would be used in illegal ways. And from what i see, advanced countries are the ones who are really making profit from bitcoin. At least the government it self has some facilities to support crypto in their country.

As far as I know, in Russia Bitcoin is illegal now, and you can get punishments.. even jail time .. depending on amounts..

In most of the countries there are no local laws regulating crypto currency because most of them don't know about it much and have least influence on their economy . There are many wallets supporting the particular countries where the bitcoin can be sold directly and money goes into your bank . I think you should do your research for that . If your country does not regulate bitcoin then there might be some way out to get your money.       

I am from Russia and as I see on news the final step about crypto currencies regulation is going to be done on the 1st February of 2018. Till then I can do with my coins whatever I want. I suppose when the time for necessary laws about crypto currencies regulation will come it is going to be on all news here and Google will give me all the necessary links from the law when I will need some detailed information. Are you sure that 1 Feb you will not get a complete ban on the use of bitcoin? Information coming from Russia on this subject is very controversial. Now in Russia the government is trying to take full control over the use of the Internet. Even companies that provide VPN services are required to provide information about users. I think you will have problems next year.

Depends in which country you’re in. In some countries the law states, that physical currency is always valid way of payment. However the law might also allow to pick whenever or not you want them as customers. Let’s say you don’t want them as customer after seeing they won’t to pay you in cash can be totally legal, depends on what country you live in.

In my country, there is not yet a question of regulating crypto-currency, there are as yet no questions!

To get the latest update you can relay on the internet to get some details but it is okay to consult your law offices regarding this matter but so far just watch TV since they are broadcasting things like this.

Where do you live if I may ask? Bitcoin and crypto has been hugging the limelight this year so I'm sure that it's been on the radar of your government, so expect that your government will make their own stance (in favor or not).


I'm sure that you can get all the information on the web, but the questions is that are they updated? Again, crypto has been in the news as of late so there's a lot of discussions behind government agencies that we are not all aware of. As for consulting law offices, there are only a few who understands it (whether as commodity or assets or money), so there's a lot of leg room to learn about the laws applicable to crypto.

Bitcoin is a currency and investment issue therefore if their is no local news in your country then this mean Bitcoin is not yet popular in your place but as a currency you could go to your Central Banks regarding their stand on Bitcoin and as investments you could visit your commercial institution if they already authorize any local exchanges but if both are none then sad to say that you cannot sell your Bitcoin in your country.

every country has different rules about crypto control because they make their own policies to regulate it not because of perfunctory but because there is a purpose can be from start to profit or keep their assets.

You're right that the legal situation about bitcoin that you still don't know about in your country might be fatal later on and it doesn't hurt you to consult a lawyer or legal official in your government I'm sure they know clearly about the rules and attitudes of the government there about bitcoin

in our country, the legal status of bitcoin is clear, the government does not recognize bitcoin as a direct payment instrument, the government only recognizes bitcoin as a deposit asset, but there are still many people who buy and sell cryptocurrencies, because at present the technology development without borders is free to choose, for while indeed the state has not set the limit on asset ownership

To find out about the existence of laws on a particular topic that interests me, I type keywords on this topic at Google and first look at the website of the legislature of my country. So I immediately enter into specific laws. I also look through other selected information to make sure that I did not miss anything. So pretty quickly, I find answers to any questions that interest me. Contact a lawyer, it will be a long time, and also expensive, besides, not every lawyer can navigate in matters of cryptocurrency.

Even it sounds too much, I think it's better to ask about it to a lawyer just to find out and make sure that bitcoin isn't illegal and/or it has been regulated in your country. It's important to make you feel free and got no worries on running your cryptos. Anyway, where re you from? You can also use google to find if your country prohibit the use of cryptocurrency. There are lists of countries that have been published or posted by some well known online media recently. There are also countries like mine that allows the use of cryptocurrencies in any transactions even it is not legalized yet. China is reportedly opening up on the use of cryptocurrencies after one of its local court ruled in favor of bitcoin so there is a big chance that your country might also allow the use of virtual coins in the future.

Yeah absolutely until the government will come out with a decision and put into law bitcoin and crypto currency  will legal because the is no bases to sue any body in a violation without  any law.

Maybe not all are updated but at least you can find out the position of bitcoin legality in each country. in fact, some countries set it as a commodity not as a currency.

My government still decide to against crypto because btc still consider as criminal money and it's cause inflation so I'm using crypto with my own risk.
Let say if I get scam when I decide to invest crypto, there is no law that control it so police can't help me because there is no regulation for crypto.
The story is different if you're in Netherland or Japan where there is a law that control crypto for their need !

Crypto currency in our country is very clear that the government prohibits crypto from being used to make payments, so in our country do not expect that there will be trade in goods paid for using crypto, but our country still recognizes crypto as an asset, and I think every country has laws about eyes crypto money, and things like this are usually a lot of news in the mass media.

You can find this on your own, if there is no final statement or laws in your place regarding on cryptocurrency then I think there is no problem buying and selling cryptocurrency. Try also to ask the local banks if they are accepting this kind of transactions, but as far as I know sending cryptos directly in your bank account is still not exist or maybe in a few places.

Regulations are still not happening in some places, just like here in my country which we can freely use cryptocurrency without having any problem with the laws, but transacting directly with the banks is only possible using our local wallet. Yes, some of countries Bitcoin is not yet fully announced it is legal or not. But as far as I know, Banks are not giving authority to have clients that to open an account that had a source of income related from crypto. Most likely they close this kind of account and their possibility to forfeit their fund. My country too, does not prohibit the use of bitcoin but there is no official legality and regulation made for crypto. in some countries it has provided regulations and even taxes. If you come on an exchanger and see that it is cooperate with the bank where you have your account then you logically can to transfer fiat there after you sell your bitcoin, coz you do not transfer bitcoin to your account, but fiat (dollars/euros). So there is no complication with this point.

In our country the status of Bitcoin is very clear, the government does not allow Bitcoin to become a medium of exchange or any means of payment, so the government through the Ministry of Finance expressed their attitude through television channels and other mass media, so traders know very well about this, I don't knowing whether in other countries the government is open about their attitude towards bitcoin, but I think the government must announce their attitude through their financial service institutions.
