Title: Do the name affect to the price???
Post by: tomvildc on November 25, 2017, 01:41:34 AM
From what I've seen so far, Bitcoinnect and BitcoinCash have high price on market. I've just wonder what if these project had different name, i mean without "Bitcoin" inside, then people will know these coin? will these coin have today's price?
If yes, maybe it's a chance for EthereumClassic(ETC) now? because ETH raise so fast, people-who miss the ETH train will see some hope in this coin with "Ethereum" inside the name??? Now price on coinmarketcap is $18.5

I do not think name affects the price, it is concept and implementation of project that should reflect in the price. Having a name associated with well knows coins may only have a little advantage since many investor will look in to it wondering what it is about and how it is related to bitcoin/ethereum/dash etc.

i am thinking the same because i think its depend on how good the coins in the market and how strong the community with the dev and the team support the coins. beside that, investor factor is include in the coins so if there are a big investor then i think it will affect with the price and the price will be high too. but for some people, the name can give affect to the coin journey because sometimes the name can give a luck to the coins and they are believe about this.

I don't think the name affect to the price of digital coins, bitcoin cash BCH has expensive price because actually it is original blockchain of the bitcoin and the people who doesn't agree with bitcoin's hard fork, the people be free to support it. So do with ethereum classic ETC it is also the original blockchain of ethereum ETH, many people doesn't agree with hard fork of ethereum because of the DAO bail out, it is about the fundamental aspects about the digital coins and not about the name of digital coins.

Just because you guys know what is blockchain, know that need a good dev team to make a good product. How about people know nothing about technical but still want to invest - a big money. I just wonder this type of people take how many percent in coin market? this percent can affect to the price???

Yes, the names won't affect the price or growth. The names itself becomes popular upon the growth and there are exceptions that has got ruined of the name itself. Naming too has got importance, but that doesn't serve as the basic requirement for the digital currency market.

Names doesn't really affect the price. The coin becomes popular and this is the reason why its name will be known. It will spread out to the community and establish its reputation. Names are just representations so it is not necessary or needed for a coin to be popular and successful.

It mostly has to do with quality and supply. Top coin quality will be on top. But any coin with the right supply and price can land in the top 10 for a time. Name, escepially copies, have a ongoing different effect.

That's interesting, I never thought that someone will consider certain coin name lucky and will name their coin accordingly.
Also having a silly name may affect attracting community. I personally do not invest in the coins with those kind of name. I think because of that I missed out on fuck token airdrop.

I also don't think that the name of the cryptocurrency can significantly affect the price. I think that the most important are advertising, currency development strategy and popularity. They will directly affect the price.

The name can surely affect the price negatively.  Coins with profanity or offensive names will never be accepted by the public.

The name of the project does not directly affect the price, but it is also very important to choose a remarkable and memorable name that represents the project well. A right name is an important influence that brings you to the fore among hundreds of options. Than people then decide by looking at project details.

I almost have the same thought with you but i dont make new topic.
I think the name affect to its price but only small percentage around 10% support.
And 90% is the quality of project make its price high.

I'm not sure his name will affect the price. The most important is the solution to solve the problem and also their roadmap, the market can also affect the price. I think the etc will go up like eth, but only up 20% - 30% of the current price, maybe up to $25.

Name does help.

For example, i would rather own "monero" than "bitmonero" or "omni" instead of "mastercoin". However, i don't think that reusing bitcoin's name really makes a coin any more special. Naming would probably account for around 10% of the coin, with the rest being development and community.

These coins you've mentioned are all forks of bitcoin/ethereum. Thees have value mainly because of the people behind these projects.

Technically it doesnt affect the price, what affects the price is the background, the people behind it and the project they are promoting to the mainstream. If all of this are shit, Now the name affects the coin, sometimes there are coins with good names but shit project, and a little sum of investors invest to their project, some have bad names but very good project. The name doesnt matter if the project is good and will be profitable for the future, if its not, then it matters.

the name is a great impact to the mind of everyone. not only to its vision or platflorm but also on what is the name of the coins. this is not applied only to coins but also from other companies who's adding an attractive word to their name and it builds the interests of those who will read it.

this is often the case with altcoin already successful in the market and this also has been accustomed to get praise from many users of this bitcointalk account.
but I think all those coins will not be like now if the bitcoin itself does not show up.

No. It still depends on the project implementation and the conceptualization of the said project. It may have a little advantage but nonetheless, the way the project is handled and its reputation affects the price.

Title: Re: Do the name affect to the price???

The name can really affect prices, such as bitcoin cash, bitcoin diamonds, bitcoin gold, which capitalize on bitcoin's reputation to increase market capitalization, so the naming of a coin is also important.

Title: Re: Do the name affect to the price???
Post by: dumplingsandsushi on November 25, 2017, 05:30:31 AM
I would say yes, it can affect the price, but not significantly.
Some coins have absolutely terrible names that make it sound like a joke coin but it turns out it's legit, like insane token or unobtanium.
These ones are in no means great but they are legitimate projects albeit with very small communities surrounding them.

Then there are all the bitcoin forks and their silly names: bitcoin cash, gold, silver, diamond, red, yellow, blue, rainbows and unicorns or whatever.
I think these definitely work against them, no one takes them seriously because they are just wannabe bitcoins.

Then there's ones where the dumb name doesn't seem to affect it at all.
Like Ethereum.  I mean, it seems normal now but at first I though that was such a pretentious stupid name.

But in the end, it is really the use, success of the project, and supply and demand of the marketplace that are the biggest factors in determining price.

This is all the hard fork coin that can have the similar name starting from bitcoin and rest follows. But other altcoin which is created cannot have bitcoin as a name and has to be unique as that cannot get the leverage of bitcoin name in their coin's initial. So yes along with name more the team, coins details, its usability will matter in altcoins.

Yes, it has influence but very small, I am sure it is less than 4%.
The name is necessary to differentiate a thing from something else, but the name does not do the thing itself.
In the same way that the name of a person does not make the person, the person makes his name important or not.
If football player Lionel Messi changes his name can he improve his contracts? Obviously not.
It is very clear that the improvements must always be made in the important aspects,
and here a long list of aspects of the project continues until we arrive, perhaps in the last place, to the name.

Of course, the name can influence the price of a coin. Many coins have newer names or reference other coin names such as bitcoin diamonds, bitcoin gold, etc., as well as stratis and strats, which are easily appealing to purchase.

This is what's on my mind too, since they are putting the tag name of "bitcoin" on their coin it makes them popular. The same goes with Ethereum, Ethereum classic. But it's not totally the whole reason why these coins/split coins has a good price. They are upgraded and has their own features that allows them to gather many investors that adds up to their market cap.

Yeah the name has a great impact on the market growth. Since Bitcoin is on top of all crypto currencies, people trusted on the name more than bitcoincash and bitconnect projects and the teams strength. I would say,  70% of their growth comes duo to the name, then the rest falls on their projects and teams.

I think the name only gives small effect to the price. Bitcoin Cash has a high price because it is supported by big investors so that demand grows
EthereumClassic has been around since 2016 but the price is still $ 20 and it proves that the name does not have a big effect

The ETC was an accident, and if POLO was not traded on the ETC / BTC, none of us knew of getting a free coin for the moment after bifurcation. In a sense, this is a bad thing, it caused the current difficulties in the BTC, everyone wants to further crush BTC's profits, and no further regard to the future potential of BTC was further digested and sacrificed overdraft. Of course, still need to see the strength of the development team.

There are lots of selling techniques to have a higher sales and having a good and attractive name is one of them. If the name attracts the costumers or buyers the demand will be high but the price will high if the supply is low. I think the name is slightly affects the price of the certain cryptocurrency but it needs a good project and the other selling techniques. If the cryptocurrency reach the highest demand, I think it will boom the price. Name affects the price but it should be accompanied by other techniques to make a cryptocurrency successful.

I agree, the name alone does not affect the price, a few years back when people didn't know shit they would ahve fallen for another cheap product made by a big company, today people ahave learned from past experiences and a long trial and error and they usally they don't rush in just for a product from a big name company, take for exemple bitcoin cash and bitcoin gold, these tow crypto currencies were derived from the bitcoin, they haven't been successfull at launch but when the devs lowers their mining difficulty they started having some progress, and that proves this point.

Pulling more investors is making your brand look like the original one. Naming their coins with "bitcoin" or any another popular alt coin like "eth" will have them big chances of putting their coin on the trend.

There's no guarantee that they can make it since there are some coins that has same name with bitcoin but it wasn't able to make it and if you are familiar with bitcoin unlimited, that's what I'm talking.

Naming the coin with popular ones do really affects the price of it. But still the whole thing is what we should consider about that coin before investing into such branded altcoin.

why do you think so many ico show and introduce members of their advisory boards? (sometimes invented i guess)

Yeah correct they use the name bitcoin because it's a fork.
The name bitcoin will ring a bell so I think it really helps. However it all depends on how great the new idea is. It will become shitcoin even if it bear the name bitcoin if people will not support.

It does affect the price, sadly most of the users above didnt agree with that.
I will give you an example.
If I am a newbie and I got 2k uSD. Because of the confusion that it made I might be going to the wrong crypto instead of just bitcoin.
Even if it could happen 1/100 a day it will still bring the other biitcoin name user to a pump.
I dont about you guys but why do you think other companies are copying those item name which are popular. It is for that reason only.
