(putting in my 2-week notice for work...probably 11/29 wens...)

thus ..... only time the guys will see me from now on ..is every couple weeks for ice cream and/or pizza...with them (I worked a house with 4 dev disabled folk)

man, the power's that be, at my job, are gonna sh*t a brick when I give them only 2 weeks notice on Wens/Thurs this week......I've been company 26.5 years.....

Time to do it.....

I am still making my money mining....enough to live on even...and regular investments....forget the BTC and other crypto hoards....don't even have to touch them... so no reason to wait....

(by this announcement the ASIC gods have now diverted that near pass asteroid, popping by this month, will impact,  directly at my house, that would suck) :(

I just figured out I have to wait until Dec 31st, 2017 to retire.....need to keep health insurance until my individual health insurance plan starts on 1/1/2018.

Duh. Kinda obvious. So Gasp! I will have to work an EXTRA 2 WEEKS! (the horror!) Ack!

Well, what can I say? You did well and deserve the break. Almost 30 years working means you still have a good number of healthy years to enjoy your newfound wealth so congratulations are in order.

Realise your profits now, though, no need to wait til 10k since this is clearly your end game. Wise to do so at your own target. Actually, I suspect you're not the only one waiting for this ship to make port, so you might yet help BTC on its way for a long overdue correction haha.

Congratulations buddy, just took a look at some of your old posts, you have been here pretty much since the beginning! Enjoy retirement, maybe keep a couple BTC for when the price hits 50k in 3-4 years ;) Something to give the grand kids.

Full-time thou at 33 hrs) ...well, give me 4 days off in a row, no way to get OT due to shifts and already at 33 hrs and 10k coin...and 4 days to ponder such....eureka!

er well, I'm a bit dense, but even I could figure out that was NOT making a lot of sense anymore...even if all crypto went TULIPS I'd still be no worse off lifestyle wise

sometimes it takes a brick to hit your head, for you to reason yourself into stuff...in my case, it was the job change above and 4 days off already and 10k coin

pretty obvious in hindsight I should pull the trigger

been so damn fast on this date of 11/28/2016 the price of BTC was $705 USD as of this moment it is $9,855.55 ...if you add BCH at $1,561.21 and BTG at $351.95 and BTD $64.68

even with them, bitcoin alts of a dubious price nature comes out to $11,833.39 USD for BTC of many flavors! (again dubious paper profits but still) :)

Tough to not walk away...when worse case is, I have the same lifestyle as NOT working as If I kept working.....(w/o crypto of any type mining/hoarding/etc) just my regular assets!

thus the crypto hoard made me brave (the 7,500 mh of scrypt-pow mining LTC don't hurt much either!)

Again, I'm a bit dense...but jeez....again it was only $705 USD exactly 1 year ago today.....tough to keep up.....and push this thought of retirement out that fast in 1 year...

Anyway, my Black Swan Event....was the 10k coin and looking at my lifestyle and etc...and going, I can do this ....and don't even have to use BTC and all my Crypto, in any way at this
 
time and only a 'backstop' at this time...so no real risk to pulling the trigger now and quitting the job (sh*t this math worked 3 months ago at 5k coin as well)

but again, its only been a year...hard to grasp such things, until you actually sit down and do the numbers etc

so tulips or not I'm all in..trying to keep the crypto hoard intact..worse case I'm no worse off on retirement then before BTC and crypto LIVES... best case...well best case my mind boggles

because if it went up 10x this year...how am I gonna keep my sanity if it does the same in 2018?

I need much higher price to consider not working at all.  I prefer working for myself anyway and do enjoy being productive.  If bitcoin hits $1mil each or something though i likely wouldn't work at all, just invest and travel.

i quit my wageslave job in february and I'm so bored.  i traveled and did a bunch of stuff i thought would be cool, but it gets old fast.  i want to go back to work.

I figured, with difficulty that date a gradual slope, I'd pay the unit off in like 7 months maybe and have maybe 1/2 year to pay house utils before doorstop....

boy, I was wrong......paid it off in 3 weeks and electric and BTC jumped to over 1k by Thanksgiving 2013..then, of course, dumped to $275 or some such in 2014

but by then I had drunk massive amounts of BTC kool-aid and was hooked....been a wild ride since!

But really, at my time of start..it was all hobby.....it kinda went nuts after....

But even 2013 was not soon enough....I had a chance to learn about BTC in 2009..but no one called....

On the other hand, I had a buddy at NASA nicknamed Qazz. He passed in 2005....but met all his buddies at NASA on whale talk chat in 2015...they were showing charts

of how they were trying to find BTC scammer addresses...admitted they had had NO luck...but having fun with the math etc

I asked, did you know Qazz? oh yeah...they all worked together as assembly programmers for Unisys/Nasa.....they all got into BTC in 2009 and were even in 2015 were

BTC billionaires... (at that realization I started banging head on keyboard) so had my buddy lived...he would have called me up in Jan 2009, when I was taking

down the FIVE CPU towers that ran the old BBS (Jan 19th, 2009) and I would have looked at the 5 towers and gone ..SURE....alas no one phoned me :(

So anyway, IF BTC goes up 10x next year.....those of you reading this may still have a shot...it may never be too late for a few more years yet...for crypto

just saying....I spent 2014 and 2015 mining LTC at like $2 out of boredom....just stick with it

that's the thing though. you are working a job already. i don't know about you but most people when they say they want to give up their jobs they are thinking about living of bitcoin that they already have!

otherwise giving up one job for another riskier one such as mining, trading, ... is not really worth it in my opinion.

I have tried to explain that many times , that work isn't only about how much you are getting paid and life may be actually boring without work
but in case you hate work you should replace it by something you enjoy instead of totally giving up work

things can get boring quite easily , my passion for poker was so high 3 years ago and now it's not like it was before

Superb! I guess that there are many that did this or are so close to this, but most don't share.
Most of us dream to get there at some point. And many will do.

I'm ok...I have a hoard of crypto and the mining is extra....back in the day...when BTC was cheap..places on the thread where I say how much BTC I have

you can probably find such...but I'm ok....another 1/3 of that amount in alts...and the mining ..I'm dandy

again, my regular investments/no debt/paid off house etc...allow me to live the lifestyle I have already w/o work...it just took the 10k BTC to wake me up enough

to see such...thus still mining ..still holding..and worse case I get bored ..I can go back and work with dev disabled of volunteer so no real risk on any retirement in MY situation

but as the previous post in the thread, you get busy...BTC was $705 last year at this date.....I needed the 10k as a wake-up call to look around and go....ok I can do this with little

risk and not touching crypto even..and stay the same lifestyle..that kinda sets you back on why you are working let me tell you ...especially with crypto and mining at the moment

Congrats on taking the plunge. I remember your KnC BTC and LTC setups from back when. Got me thinking why the hell am I still working when I no longer need to? I guess I like my work, but if BTC hits $25K I really won't have any more excuses.

In my case, working with the developmentally disabled, I can always go back and or volunteer. I also train/teach Shotokan Karate-Do (free) at Campus Recreation at the local University.

Thus with work on the house and still mining like heck...I  should be plenty busy enough at least this next year...after that I could very well go back to work....I suppose....

by the by my home mining setups...I still have 2 knc titans in the basement and a baikal 300mh

all my main 7,500 mh is at a data hall in Iowa!

Congratulations! I want to be extra careful, so I voted $50k - that would be definitely enough. Right now I prefer to keep saving (not only to BTC) and holding.

any old work? why? there's a million more interesting things to do. if it's interesting work then i can see why someone would miss it but not slavery.

it's gonna have to be an awful lot higher for it to make the difference i'd want to my life so it's business as usual for me.

Wow you really have patience for staying to your work for almost 27 years. If that happens to me, maybe i would quit my job if i have already steady source of income. Sadly i dont have, i am still young and working for only 5 years.

Every time I see anyone like you with big amount of Bitcoins I always trying to calculate how many property (yachts, houses etc.) could they buy if they sell their BTC for example at 7k before  it go down to 5k.

Literally I graduated in 2006 was thinking about doing something but my problem is I had a bad habit that i don't like anyone to order me doing this and that so forget about my Graduation and started my Cyber (Back in 2006 to 2010) that was best business to do because no one had easy access to internet and smartphones. when i first know about Bitcoin while i was traveling to Singapore, Japan and Thailand back in 2009 i figured our god is great because God knows that Bitcoin is the best option for people like me. Started my research in Bitcoin and been Crypto Guy since that time and Called myself UNDEADBITCOINER (Will not die Until Bitcoin Hits Atleast $50K)

Only Regret i have today is If i have some short of JOB or Any other income than i wont sell my BTC to pay my rent and my monthly expenses Rent i paid back in 2013 in bitcoin according to today's bitcoin value my rent and monthly expenses is f^^^^^g Millions $ a month. In another sense No regret because I did it my way and I never need to be a slave of someone.

well, the catch I found back in around Aug/Sept was I would have MORE equip but could not (from usa) get into the bitmain site for more equip

thus that could really, really screw you up...part of the reason I'm running my knc titans in the ground at 3x the elec costs..fine I sell them

get 400w bitmain stuff vs 1250 watt titan stuff..does no good NOW at what bitmain wants vs difficulty and when it does make sense

I likely would see 2-3 batches (6 weeks) like last fall when I could not get in!)

(and I was using the local university BACKBONE inet speed...still no go)

so as an aside, make sure you can get equip ...if the equip makes sense to you...you could get locked out like I was on some in the rush on the bitmain site

also, remember if LTC prices goes from 4.15 to 20 bucks or so or more like this summer...say now 150 to 200 usd ...pump.....bitmain took my eastshore.xyz orders (and all of theirs) off their truck

in the bitmain shipping area back to bitmain...to mine in own data halls..thus .that was on the 4.15 to 20 buck pump..if LTC price goes to 150 usd expect the same 'firmware problems' they claimed

on this stunt last summer....of course, the units arrived 6 weeks later on my re-order (eastshore.xyz is legit paid us back) dated jan 2017

anyway, sh*t can get real when everyone sees a miner that has a good shot to ROI under a year....and bitmain is too cheap to give a sh*t and fix their shopping site

why bother when it sells out in 35 min? in batches of 20k? when times are good

anyway, just venting a cautionary tale to keep in mind

(same problem with Baikal x11 miners..they kept losing orders supposedly...i and a buddy ordered 20 or more in 3 batches ...i got one cube....300mh ...admittedly the cube
made me 2k so far...but it is distressing)

It will pass. 16.7 million Bitcoins for such a big world is close to nothing. Owning 1 coin will be pretty rare.

Well tallking to the CPA lady..today...lining some stuff up on solo 401k place (not her) and other thoughts

as a result....looking at stuff to tell her ...I see that my crypto had doubled in value since July 2017! (this is all my crypto not just BTC)

also looked at Oct 2015 my crypto was worth 2.12% of what I have now.....mostly due to pump since 2015....

I mean really 2 years and a month!

talked to my CPA and Edward jones advisor today in the same room...to say they are 'stunned' is an understatement....

they got to converse and see that I'm not COMPLETELY crazy, with crypto, for my retirement....it makes a 'nice backstop' thou!

I don't need the crypto or mining I'm doing to retire 'in the lovely lifestyle that I have now....on Dec 31st, 2017 I pull the trigger

(got to keep the health insurance until Jan 1st, 2018 don't ya know from the job before the change. (job is gonna freak on notice Friday)

thus, the main question from them...with crypto as a 'backstop' was how will I handle it when it goes Tulips? Alas, almost got them to newbie status...so close!

thus still freaked out about BTC and crypto FUD......so they are still not on board...getting any....themselves....at this time :(

progress though....by tulips...they see it dumping to 2-3k, so hey I will take what I can get...not going completely to zero

eventually, FOMO, will wear everyone down to getting crypto...especially if ETF's ever come to pass...

Just wanted to stop by the thread and say congratulations. I think at this point in time it's good to be diversified. I think the CME news and launching of futures on 12/18/17 should give us and the market an idea of what to expect. I.e., does it start a bear trend or do we keep pushing for the stars. Thankfully it sure looks like most current toasters from bitmain continue to be fairly reliable and working well. My only suggestion would be to continue to ramp up on the home scale mining. AFAIK, expenditures on mining can be expensed the year put into service under the 179 depreciation thing; so you can reduce income earned from mining and continue to expand operations. That should keep earnings and taxes maybe a bit lower.

I think for me, I don't think I'd really want to retire, at least not yet, I just want to expand mining operations more and more. It's an itch I just can't stop scratching lol. Still, having that sense of financial security is great and must be a huge relief.

An update..have to stall on my retirement....even private stuff has to go thru my states web based healthcare www site...

all insurance apps go thru this state site. (The state got scam'd by some Insurer's in years past...so this acts as a 'gate' to watch them, is the logic)

they messed it up ..said I make no income, oops......that is in NO way correct,  until they fix it...can't get on the site to reapply.

Been in limbo for 16 days.

Thus, keeping the job until I get the private medical card in my hot little hands and then retire, so it sucks but what can you do.

I plan on retiring here within the month if lucky.

(trying to wrap stuff up at work and make the move health care etc...a pain!)

But, trying to be a responsible adult...don't need crypto to retire but it is a nice 'backstop' even if never used...

I am still minng, though at the rate all flavors of crypto is going up..it MAY be unlikely I will get any mining equip

again this year, just because....makes no sense ..(even if the equip did have good roi and not expensive ...which is iffy)

Thus filling up the following buckets as best I can, and all can be taken off like equip and elec from gross income..(including any crypto cash out of coins)

1) solo 401k self-employed socked w/as much as allowed for 2017.

2) solo 401k self-employed socked w/as much as allowed for 2018. (estimated..kept in an account as cash till prudent to fill it up)

3) electric/rent/etc from data hall and miners in basement

4) all medical insurance can be taken off gross if you are self-employed...thus with mining...set aside 2 years for that (also in cash for use or full buy out yearly)

5) an emergency fund of as much as I can think of needed for House/Medical/etc

Now, most will say ...why not keep all that in crypto...the 2017 and solo 2018 plans you can put your assets in crypto (after they go in as cash) but as my CPA
says, likely that is the last crypto you ever want to cash out!)

The other stuff is just peace of mind...I have been in crypto since 2013...I was there when 10 days or so, before the 2014 April deadline of doing taxes...the IRS

dropped the 2013 guidelines bomb out of spite..and I had to go to CPA and do a correction....which was fine....all that nice equip deductions! NO taxes paid!

But still, that is NOT why the IRS waited till 10 days before..was just to screw with us...so best to be aware they can always still drop a shoe, before April...

As to the Coinbase demand, of 2017, we want ALL your info on all 15 million folks on Coinbase...including passwords, because we found 3 people cheating w/IRS
using coinbase....

well having an emergency fund, above and beyond the solo 401k retirement stuff of 2017 and 2018 ..and also have my health insurance paid up in full up until
I'm 65 years old> (2 years)...I plan on taking my Soc Sec at 66 and 3 months which is the full status on such...

All seems prudent

1) IF BTC does its past history of a 30% correction, I can pat myself on the back and have all this cleaned up and in place, and pat myself on the back.

2) IF BTC and other cryptos I have tripled in value or something, and I had this stuff out in cash too soon, on this me being cautious....well, that won't matter much

at those prices to me either...

anyway, how I'm approaching mining in 2018 and free some crypto back to $$$.....

I used to do the above as a 'hedge' with equip ...betting like this...but with solo 401k and electric/data hall rent, now medical insurance all ACTING LIKE equipment
in being taken off my gross earnings in 2018.....why get dubious miners (at least until say June 2018..maybe for fun look around)

Again, beats...betting on March orders of L3+'s and other dubious cryptos for hardware stuff from Bitmain in 2018, esp with solo 401k and medical, being an IRS hedge
Just like, equip off my gross income


Anyway, times to buy equip and times not to buy equip, now is not the time for me and the above...but likely MAY crack on this around JULY 2018.....if/when some

product comes up that makes sense....but anyway, how I'm playing with the wealth...trying to be prudent in case 30-50% goes poof....

whatever you do for planning it is all about protecting the ego, don't ya know.....so even again if all crypto's pump 3-10x again.....

Again, that above works for medical all off gross income too, IF you are set up as self-employed in the USA, (ie mining) IT must come from Income...site has

on the solo401k has a calculator on how much you make 'self-employed' with a solo 401k you can put aside...anyway, the link is for details, on solo 401k.

Get a good local CPA is also a good idea if you want to phase stuff out like this. (example, all my job income last 6 months has gone into Health Insurance,

Health Savings Account, Work Retirement Plan (yep I can do that and the solo401k), Dental, and take a mess extra out for anticipated State and Federal

Taxes I may owe....if too much ...I'll get a big refund...as a result, my job has been paying me (most of this is pre-tax stuff) $24.11 every 2 weeks for months.

yeah what you said...hitting 10k as a backstop in price for BTC, mentally, ..well, hell, I don't need it crypto to retire...but as a backstop to pull the trigger it was dandy

(I will likely be bored, and get a job as a 'Walmart Greeter", I was always nice to the workers at Walmart, I always figured I'd end up there someday in my old age!)

Well, I had to hang in there for 2 weeks longer than I planned (the private insurance had a web issue with my application ...so had to work 2 more weeks to keep insurance up)

but

My last day of work now is Sunday January 14th in the am. Can retire w/o crypto..when BTC hit 10k it looked silly to continue....with that as a backstop...

my issue is I probably SHOULD sell 10% to 20% of my crypto hoard of BTC and ALTS ..to be safe and TULIP Insurance....in case it all goes boom..*unlikely* but still

but got ALL my crypto from mining, all ROI'd..and still making crypto to live on (thus retire early) each month w/o touching crypto hoard

so the issue with me is HOW DAMN hard it is to let go when you see every day how hard it is to get crypto out of your ROI'd units that mine

thus you pray for a price pump and blamo, you are good for another 6 months..quite the ride

I assume I'll crack like a walnut as soon as my income stream from mining dries up, but until then I'm managing to HODL...but numbers are getting 'interesting' as a heart atttack

(of course, like all of us I'm just one stripper/gold digger away from blowing it all for the right lies) but that is a given,

the catch is

1) you have to be a boring nerd to get into this in a big way anyway

2) if you do well in crypto as a result ..you are still boring...wtf?

best to keep this to ourselves ...I suspect most of us would be pliable exotic dancer putty with the right lies :)

Update...retired...its a done deal finally!

 I retired yesterday Jan 14th...all due to BTC....living on mining revenue and in HODL mode on BTC and other cryptos...

Spent today, puttering around the house doing chores....been a wage slave so long..kinda clueless on how to approach this...retiring early stuff...

kinda surreal in fact...., on what to do...I've no clue, yet, in that, once you wake up retired...everything suddenly is OPTIONAL..you need to do that day!

....clueless presently...but I'll figure it out!

Well, I dumped a mess of LTC at the BTC low and the LTC low....(my skills at when to sell are impressive (not))

so did that fix it yet?  We should be in full rebound mode...what usually happens when I sell some crypto...

I mean I retired on Monday..I figure that shift in the Universe of Karma ..jinx'd the works..thus I caused the tanking of all crypto.....thus trying to fix this

Good luck for your decision. but for me i will not quit on my JOB because i loved it. Maybe if i have a tons of money i will consider putting my own business.

Remember wealth is measured by time. If i can live for the next 20 years without working or earning money. then ill quit my job.

I don't need to become jobless. I just need to get rid of $20.000 I owe the banks, take my old, poor parents to few countries in Asia/North America since they never left Europe and I'll be happy. Everything after that is a bonus. Hopefully that bonus will be Kia Stinger, but oh well, one can dream ;)

My job was working at a dev disabled house (deaf/blind)....thus I will still pop in once a month or so with Pizza and keep an eye out with or as a guardian...

thus ..can love the job..not need the job..and still hang out.... :) It's not like I got paid a lot in that field anyway :) So the choice was fairly easy.

Thou, I am pretty sure I broke crypto...I retire on Monday my 1st day of retirement in full and things begin to go pear shaped..yep it was me..

the Karma of the Universe could not let me just be a retired lazy slob..no, Karma demanded that I feel guilty for the reverse effect of blowing up crypto!

I voted for $50,000. That's probably big enough for me to be able to start my own business and continue focusing on Bitcoin. That would sustain my needs while planning and starting my business of choice. And the good thing is that it might happen within the year. I am very positive about it. By the time, this dumping will end, the growth will be very bullish and quick.

Very very cool story. Congrats! I'm very happy for you! I'm with you, I've made enough to retire, but I'm 38 so ... not exactly time to do that yet. But I'm starting a business with my stash which will move me into crypto full time so that will be awesome. Best of luck to you!
