I'm looking to invest around 15k possibly up to 25k in bit and altcoins. Just curious how some of you would invest the money for the short and long term. I use to own some bitcoin a couple year's back but stupidly didn't see the bigger picture at that time. Trying to research as heavily as I can to get the best understanding of what's going on now. Look forward to hearing others opinions and reasoning for how they'd go about this.

30% in bitcoin
10% in ETH
10% in Smart contract platform based tokens like lisk, qtum, Neo
20% in multiple coins which have real life uses like sia, dgb, nxt, ripple (long term holdings)
Remaining 30% for short term trading and mostly kept in Fiat to buy cheap coins if price will get dumped hard.

I would invest the money this way:
BTC - $5K
ETH - 2,5 K$
DASH - 2,5 K$
XMR - 2,5 K$
LTC - 2,5 K$

Nice pick, maybe I would add some Neo, because I believe, China will make neo the official platform sooner or later.
If you want to take a risk,  you can participate in Ico.

Im going to invest in:
Bitcoin- 10,000 $ and i'm going to invest it for a long term, maybe 5 to 10 years after invest.
Ethereum - investing 2500 $- this is one of the best crypto currency next to bitcoin (smart contract etc.)
The remaining 2,500 $ will be going for a short term trading only( top 50 coins in market )

15k is a huge one. Heres how I will invest it:\

7k will stay as BTC Longterm HOLD
1k for ETH as long term hold
1k for LTC as long term hold
4k for variety of small but good coins.

The rest  will go to Forex trading using Bitcoin.

Many question asking for this. Generally every member will give you some different opinion that can make you more confuse.
However i will share my opinion too.
Bitcoin invest 50% of capital
Etherium 30%
And waves 20%
Thats my idea.

I'd like to divide $15k into three portfolios. The first one is for BTC, it should be around $5K. The second one is for top-20 cryptos like ethereum, dash, monero, cardano and so on. You can divide it whatever you want. It should be around $7-8K. And the last one is for the investment into new projects at ICO and pre-sale stages. It is the most risky portfolio, but it could have the highest ROI between all of them.

10% ETH
10% LTC
20% in other promising coins
Remaining 30% for short term trading.

60% invest in bitcoin, ethereum and IOTA
and another 40% for your daily trade,, so you can make daily profit too

Dude whatever you do, don't forget to buy at least 1k rdn (raiden network). It is the main project behind ethereum scalability and ability to work micropayments. This can be the only way crypto comes close to handling as much or more payments than visa.

Do your research and thank me in a year

Wait till correction of BTC, when it be around 7.5-8k and try to buy 2 pieces of it. Another way is short-term trading based on different tokens and alt-coins, if you have courage, of course.

100% BTC, just look at that growth, it cant go down now there is no way it can go down. Even the shoe polisher little boy told me about BTC

I think if u make daily trading u ll have more profit than long term, 2 times 5% profit per day= 10% per day, 30x 10% = 300% per month try it u ll be rich in short time :)

I think this is a better plan. If you do not know trading then go with 10% in trading instead 30% as suggested by song.

This is up to the trading ratio of a person. I would do it like this:

60% bitcoin investment and hold it without trading. 10% ethereum investment and 50% of this for ico participation.

10% for fiat money to use in trading.

 
I appreciate all the replies so far. I have to say initially I wasn't planning to put as much into bitcoin as most of you suggested. I was more interested in ethereum. It seems I need to do some more reading. As someone mentioned I don't know much about trading but am interested in learning. I would like to make some short term money once I get a better grasp on it all.

I also like the first posters idea it was quite well thought out. I would make a small amendment to it and that is instead of having 30% in fiat I would 10% in fiat and change the 30% in BTC to 50%. I think BTC is going to make big waves next year too and I would try and get more of that if possible but that is me.

put 100% into bitcoin and grow it slowly if it is all you have upfront. If you can reinvest continually 1/2 to btc and the rest icos or pre-icos. The best of cryto has yet to be written and you want to be in at the ground floor when it happens.

The diversifying is the best solution. You should invest in ICOs as well as in already existed assets. If I were you I would invest 50% in BTC, 10% in ETH, 30% in dash, zec, verge, cardano, waves, another 10% in ICOs.

I'm really bullish about Quantstamp (QSP) with a potential smart contract boom coming in 2018.
Might even buy some more as long as the price is low.

$15k-$25k is a lot. I suggest you invest some in btc like 60% of it on btc. And 20% on ethereum, 15% on litecoin, and the rest 5% on new upcoming ICOs.

Yeah 15k is alot to me but in the grand scheme of things and what others are investing it's a rather small amount. I feel like if I invested less I would regret it in the future.

10% in fiat? Why would you diversify by that? The OP has clearly said that he is willing to invest that money in cryptos, he does not want more fiat.


I would definitely put ten thousand dollars on bitcoin, and i would diversify the rest between a few other altcoins.

Maybe those five thousand dollars could be diversified between Ethereum, Monero, Litecoin and Dash, those are the most profitable and safe altcoins that we have seen during the last few months.

Having huge amkunt of capital is great for short term trading you can maximize your earning just follow some signals from other users just choose the trusted people giving good signals.

Agree to other recommendation that much better to divided it in multiple coin but it is for long term investment because they choose coin which is not constantly increasing its value.

I would place the majority of the budget into bitcoin. Probably around 75% of it at least. The rest is 25% and I would use this amount in token sales if I observe any hype in any Project.

Huge capital is a good advantage for trading, agree that short term is much better than holding some altcoin but you should have good skills and give more effort to research which coins is better to trade.

Check out Universa, Crypterium. Im to concerned that Bitcoin may drop when Universa or other new technologies start getting some traction. I mean 1000 times faster and 100 times cheaper than bitcoin, it does look good.

About 50% in BTC/ETH and the rest in altcoins. Among altcoins, I think Amor (amorcoin.org) is a very good candidate for any portfolio. They just started their crowdsale and they even have a 20% bonus offer for a limited time! They are decentralising the dating industry

To share, I did not buy any BTC when I first started in July, only ETH and then into other ALTs. In retrospect, I think should have at least 50% in BTC the rest in ETH for ICO purpose and small % in other speculative coins.

Welcome back to the wild crypto world buddy! Of course you need to diversify it. As much as possible try to make your trades with a fixed amount like 0.1 btc per trade. If you want to collect as much altcoins and have more trades try to take your capital earlier once you are satisfied with the gain and leave it alone to grow.

Nearly all people I meet expect bitcoin to reach at least $15,000 this year so leave at least 50% of your portfolio in it. There are also too many cheap promising coins right now due to bitcoin's constant rally. Altcoins I like are Power, Litecoin, EMC2 NAV, Verge, DGB and many more. And don't forget to DYOR.

Always own at least 50% of your portfolio in BTC.

Then you can probably diversify the rest of your portfolio in altcoins and potentially other assets. I'd say that you should always research your own altcoins and not depend on suggestions, using cryptocompare or coingecko is a good start.

The point that i'm trying to get across is, never put your eggs in one basket. Sure, there could be a potentially larger payoff, but it's really not worth it.

I think it's better to bitcoin to put all the money you invest in because bitcoin is just the fast-to-grow up so much bitcoin is really worth the rest to earn a lot then trade to usd when you make a lot of bitcoin, for hours to decrease the price of bitcoin you buy again to increase your money 15k at you can earn much more.

I am a strong believer in ETH -- and am waiting for the new coin that will over take BTC to come out some day -- and when it does - oh BABY it will be the BIG ONE :)

15 k is a very pantastic amount with that much amount of course we can do the investment in many types of coin. maybe I will not specify in the distribution of the amount that I will invest in other types of coin but if I will choose some coin that I will do for an investment is of course the first thing I will do is invest in two types of coin that is currently very popular in the world of crypto is an investment in bitcoin and ethereum with a large enough amount and then the rest I will invest in other types of coins. I will do that because I'm sure for now many investors are willing to invest in two types of coin it and this of course will pump the bitcoin and ethereum so the price will continue to increase.

Depending on your risk appetite and investment time horizon. If you have big risk appetite, your % attributed to btc in your portfolio will be lower, vice versa. It is a must to have btc in your portfolio to catch dips or ride the pumps. (Hard lesson for me) Look up on the top 30 cryptos and see which one you like. It would be good to attribute a % to ETH and LTC in your portfolio. For big risk takers, you can look into mid to low caps (higher upside but also higher risk, after all, this is a speculative space) For investment time horizon, if you are going for short term flips, look out for coins with news which would usually pump the price up and sell before the news hit. For long term, research deeper into coins with good fundamentals and collect them when they are in the accumulating zone (can be determined through technical analysis) Welcome to Crypto and have a great journey! yes me too, I am sure that ethereum soon will increase. besides ethereum, I am waiting for litecoin and monero too. somehow I have a strong feeling for these three of coins and right now, I see the trends trying to go up. I think in short time, altcoin will start to rise again and if you want to invest your money, maybe you can considering buy these coins too.

You've mentioned you did trading before and sold all your bitcoins or at least that's how I understood it, but anyways learn from your mistakes and since you've researched about bitcoins and altcoins; find time to read also on the altcoins of your choice. But don't forget to still invest in bitcoins mostly and the rest would be altcoins.

$15,000 of investment for Cryptocurrency would be 1 Bitcoin and the rest are Altcoins.
$11,000 for 1 Bitcoin
$1,000 for 2 Ethereum
$3,000 for 2 Bitcoin Cash
That would be the most profitable currencies that will give you good profit after a year. Next Christmas in December 2018 will be the best Christmas you'll ever experience.

Why not invest 90% of it to bitcoin and the other to alternate coins which you think are of big potential to be on the radar of cryptoworld? The choice is yours. You can invest in either elite alt coins or perhaps alt coins that are below 1 USD. Either way, you can earn profit if it really clicks!

If I were you, I will try to diversify my crypto portfolio as much as possible like investing in bitcoin and the top 10 altcoins in coinmarketcap. I will also invest in promising ICOs as well as existing assets. You should still hold more than 50% Bitcoin and share the rest between Ethereum and other promising altcoins. You can also invest in altcoin out of the top 10 if you want more profit, but it is also more risky and never invest more than you can afford to lose

I would spend the 15k on the following altcoins such as

XRP 2.5k
DASH 2.5k
LTC 2.5k
OMG 2.5k

Well I would go 60% on Bitcoin because is the coin with more potencial than all the others, simply because it's becoming a true financial asset, and the others will have to wait in line to actual follow it. Bitcoin has all the attention, and it's the one coin opening doors for all the others, if it fails the others will probably follow.

I would then go 15% for Ethereum, because it will also be really close to institutional investors, if it succeeds as a investment platform for ICOs, and of course, if we start seeing legit ICOs showing up, that are backed by institutional money, we will see a huge cash flow in ether.

I would then put 10% into Litecoin, because it might succeed as a payment method. It's success is linked to bitcoin, so if BTC ends up being gold, it will probably be LTC that becomes silver (or in this case, it will become a true payment method).

I would then divide the last 15% between some promising altcoins (Dash, Monero, IOTA, or whatever looks more promising at the time).

Let me think first umm, I would definitely consider bitcoin as %40 or %50. Bitcoin will always be the most stable one. Second eth for %10 and other good coins like neo lisk omisego etc. equally shared.

If i was you and I have that much of money I will definitely divide it into five equal parts and put each part on the tope 5 coins , I think that is the safety option.

yes for me BCC or LTC are equivalent as medium range risk with a possible pump as more scalable version of BTC but remaining always simple altcoin, the i would split your 20% for ICO in 10%ICO and 10%existing altcoin, cause at this stage al the market it's turned at the price range in BTC of the beginning of 2017, accordig both to history and project delivering, if you pick the right altcoin now you will get easy 10x

If you want to put 15K in crypto market then you have to put your money in parts and in 4 to 5 best altcoins.
35% in Bitcoin, 25% in Ethereum, 15% in Dash, 15% in Stratis and 10% in waves and put money in parts as many coins are at their peak price and can take some breath before go for another big move. This way, you can do cost averaging and get more profits.

If you have interested to learn then it is good start. Without willing to learn is nothing.
Short term trading really need good skill so before you have enough skill then dont start short term.
I also interesting in etherium so just put your capital more etherium.

Cover your bases with your first 15K.

That would be about 60% in BTC, another 30% in ETH and 10% in LTC. This would get your feet into the door.

Once you have that done, you can additionally invest a few hundred here and there into promising 2nd tier currencies

15k is a fairly large amount, and I think this would be provide a higher profit opportunity on  investing, if we choose the coins that are really right to invest.
By reviewing price developments to date, Well.. if I have $15k, I will invest it in Btc, Eth, Bch, Btg and Ltc.

15k USD is a great start for an investment in altcoins.

I would spend 35% of this money for Bitcoins, and the rest of it will be spent to buy altcoins. Suppose that 20% should be gone to ETH, 10% for DASH and Litecoin, 10%-15% to NEO. Probably I would leave some money to invest into a stable ICO.

Are you looking to hold or trade? You could do some short-term buy and flips and probably make out very lucratively, but it would be much more risky than just buying say, ETH or BTC and holding until you decide to dump.

This is a good amount. I would distribute it like this. 50% - bitcoin. and 50% to top altcoins, such as NEO, LTC, ETH, DASH and IOTA.

I'm too lazy for these things but if you want to get more than 100% increase invest all of it in bitcoin. But if you are not sure about it these are my picks for you.

Well this makes sense as bitcoin and ethreum have already proved their worth and now Litecoin is in the making of next big thing and I guess the 5% of investment in XRP could be the game changer in the future if everything goes as per the prediction

I would like to suggest 50% in bitcoin or $7.5K.
The remain is up to you, because altcoin even major like ETH can drop hard like this time, but if alt got their moment to go up, it can make you dancing and having party.
my 2nd suggestion is into these altcoins :
ETH, Dash, LTC and Neo.
ETH with their future plans.
Dash is powerful with masternode.
Neo will be big again soon. I think China will do something about this coin and consider again.
LTC promising roadmap.
Also if you dare to take the risk to invest in ICO, it has biggest potential to make couple bucks, but you need to do carefully research.

It does really make sense if you'll invest to bitcoin and ethereum. But as with my most percentage I'm with bitcoin. As I'm more concern and getting most of my investment there. That 5% that I put in XRP can be a game changer? Sounds good though it's not that much but you are very optimistic with that percentage though I really think that it's very low for a XRP believer.

I appreciate all the responses. It has given me much to consider and think about.  One thing I'm having trouble with is dumping so much into bitcoin and not even having a full coin. I know I'm looking at this wrong and would like some differnt prospective from others.

Go ALL IN  on Bitcoins, Every month withdraw the profit on it and invest in altcoins and ICO , within a year or two, your portfolio will be much bigger. Besides, when you keep ALL IN  bitcoins, and there is a FORK, you will get free coins relative to the amount of BTC held in your account.

If I have 15k I will buy 50% BTC, 20% ETH, 20% ETN and 10% BCC. It's safer to invest in bitcoins but for long term investments I think Etn and Bcc are the best.

If I have a 15k, I would have to invest the half of it to Bitcoin. Because as you can see the price of it is lowering again after a huge rise. So when the rise of value comes again my profit will get bigger. While the other half i would invest it to some altcoins that have potential in the future like Electroneum. ETN or Electroneum is a wonderful project its Roadmap is very encouraging to have a faith on it and once its wallet and mining pool is fix, i'm sure is price will rise much bigger than it is now.

I would stick to the larger cap coins. Even then though, you must monitor them very frequently. Coins come and go all the time, you have to stay up to speed on the latest tech, hype, etc.

I will invest money in some good ICO or token, and take token share dividends , or buy altcoin with a trusted team and roadmap, some altcoin / tokens have neatness in journeys roadmap , such as dev wings, edg, or waves . I will invest 25% in good quality ico, 25% in tokens deviden , and 50% in ethereum or waves.

I will not advise you about coins but don't invest money to ICO until you have not studied them from beginning to end.
Find everything about the team members. Social accounts, posts, videos, everything. Do you trust these people at first look? Are they look professional?
Read. The. Whitepaper. Read and find answers to questions that arise in your mind during reading.
Check social activity on Bitcointalk, Twitter, Telegram, Facebook.. etc. Are social accounts alive? Is dev team talks with investors? Do you see something strange or suspicious?

The more information you can find the better for you. No one will protect your money, you will not have anyone to blame if they are stolen

20% in Bitcoin, 20% in Bancor, 10% in Neo, 10% in Byteball, 10& in Waves, and then the rest in little quantities of promising coins, like ZEN, EMC2, etc.

Bad idea of putting 20% only to bitcoin. I'm even in the state of betting it all to bitcoin and will just sit while watching all the things that are happening to it right now. But as for spreading, here are some my of picks for that budget of $15,000.

1. Bitcoin - 50%
2. ETH - 20%
3. LTC - 15%
4. Monero - 15%

It's few but if you'll take time to see the movement of these two you'll be enough for it, though I didn't include some of the coins that are also interesting.

you can benefit from this systemic market correction, just buy and watch the idiots updating their speculative overvalued perspective on ethereum.

Im so envy with how much capital your possesing. If on your shoes with that much capital I would buy 40% on btc and the other 60% on altcoins. Look for a coin that has a potential in the future or you could just look on the top 10 alts or the top 20. In my case I would buy ETH, LTC, Waves,  or Monero. Or you could atleast spare 10-15% to invest on good ICO's. All of these investments bears different level of risks so better be safe and research all the time.

I would advise you to invest this money in top altcoins that has not grown in price for a long time. Example ETC, Stratis, Ripple, QTUM.

If you want to follow my advice, I'll let you know. If you have that kind of money, then you have no financial problems and can try new things. I suggest you to invest into Bitcoin alone if you want to focus on one thing. But there are some people who think that Ethereum and Waves investments are a good investment. If you're in doubt about Bitcoin, I suggest you invest in Ethereum and Waves because they can be used as backup plans or other sources of income other than Bitcoin. It's important for you to have more than one good source of income. So if one of them has trouble, you still have another.

Iota is one of the best technology here in crypto although the team is still working it out. They already make partnerships with Microsoft, Samsung and Fujitsu. I think it will work but not sure as it may take years.

Each one is giving different suggestion for investment because all them has potential coins and choose different people who has given same choice and start investing into those coin. Already they see potential in those coins and has a chance to increase it's even more.

I guess I will go ahead an be the dissenting vote here.  How about you do not invest in anything right now.  Wait until the market corrects itself.  I also notice Bitcoin Cash is not being mentioned.  Its third in terms of market cap and backed by some of the strongest Bitcoiners whose express goal is to dethrone Bitcoin.

I also agree with you Yes it is up you want to select which gan depends there are fitting where if the problems of the market and the price of these coins depends have progress or setbacks are still eligible for the remote on the right

I would spread it pretty evenly amongst BTC, Monero, Ether, Litecoin and IOTA. Maybe save some funds and spend the rest on dash/ripple. I believe that especially IOTA and Monero has huge potential to soar in price and become the next Ether/BTC, simply because of what the cryptos aim to do.

I would make a nice experience involving coins in the short and long term. Firstly I would put 5k on Bitcoin as a form of escrow. Then she would invest in some currencies like Eth (current price favors a buy), NEO (for long hold), Lisk (this would also be hold), Minex (hold), Mama (day trade), Nxt (day trade or hold) Xlm (hold from December to January), Lcm (day trade).

These are some that I would bet, of course everyone has different tastes and I will not be responsible either if someone bets on those coins and loses money.

Go all in on Bitcoins and wait for 6 months, you will have double your money ( base on 2017 analysis ) , after six months, withdraw your profit and invest in profitable ICO with bonuses. Wait for another 6 months, your money would have tripple by this time.
