Your subject is a little dramatic don't you think? Here is the pertinent info:

Quote
They must put something in the water in Florida. The latest is that the state has effectively banned all computers, tablets and smartphones. Yes, all of them. Apparently there was a hastily passed law, CS/HB 155: Prohibition of Electronic Gambling Devices, which as you might guess, is supposed to be about banning electronic gambling devices. Apparently, the bill was written quickly in response to a political controversy.

Almost immediately, around 1,000 internet cafes shut down, and now one of them, called Incredible Investments, is suing, seeking declaratory relief on a number of issues related to the law, which shut down their cafe. They go through one by one the problems with the law (and they are many), including the definition of the slot machine:

they just outlawed ebay and paypal... i would not worry about this...

also, since bitcoin is an international commerce network, states cannot regulate interstate commerce...

Well, in a way the intended law would affect mining - mining is "a game of luck" in a way.

Well, so this is also applicable to any ms win pc - not very predictable if it will start up.  ;D

Sure sounds like they did. If the machine pays tickets, and they can cash those in for prizes, that sure sounds like Chuck E Cheese is toast.

Well, anyway.  Even if this applied to BTC mining, try stopping someone from doing what they wanna do in the privacy of their own homes.  Remember how successful the sodomy law was?  I don't.

Poor Written order. I think Federal will take a deeper look at this as some terms must not be wrong.

Additionally, why quick? Perhaps the LA(element) series is the major problem? Even this, I think Governor violates important rules written on federal law

Stop making melodramatic headlines to get people to read your articles, that goes for all of you, the shitty journalism overall right now is astounding, I'm seeing supposed professional journalists do this too.

They also banned all computers and or video gaming systems that gain credits or gold or any other token inside a game.. all X-boxes  Playstations etc..  They apparently also banned "rewards" credit cards.. it is a device that gains you spendable credits by using the device...

I think I know what this was about, I remember seeing a report somewhere about these "internet cafés" that were basically casinos.  They were setup like a normal computer lab, you could use the machines like a normal computer if you wanted, but the whole thing was geared towards gambling.

Additionally the places would sell and exchange credits to use with the games directly.

The only difference between these places and a 'normal' internet café is the marketing. Kind of like the difference between Dropbox and MegaUpload - they both do the same thing, but one is "marketed" toward people who want to share files, so the government shuts it down.

This law basically allows the state to shut down any internet café (and I depending on the complete text of the law, arrest anyone for owning a computer!??)

This is how government over-reach starts.  The government wants to clamp down on one thing, so they write overbroad laws which are only "meant" to clamp down on the "obvious" examples, but is so broad it could be used to do anything.

Look at the Aaron Swartz case - the was written to be ban obvious hacking, but was used to prosecute someone for violating terms of service.

And yeah this would definitely make Chuck e Cheese illegal in FL. That's not the point, but if the government ever has a beef with them, they could use it.

As far as bitcoin mining, even if it was theoretically a problem it wouldn't affect pure PPS pools like 50btc

I wouldn't spend much time worrying about what Florida makes illegal. Drugs are illegal in Florida. Making drugs illegal in Florida is kind of like making beer illegal in Milwaukee.

You would make a fine reporter being able to twist an article that has nothing to do with bitcoins, into an article that has something to do with bitcoins.  And I wouldnt take that as a compliment.
