Title: NICEHASH confirmed - hacked - Any legit alternatives?
Post by: silios on December 06, 2017, 09:33:59 PM
It is official Nicehash got hacked https://www.justcryptonews.com/291/breaking-nicehash-has-been-hacked-50mln-missing
They have announced it on facebook, twitter, Reddit, etc , so there is no more point arguing if they were hacked or not, and they won't be back online anytime soon (if ever)...

The question is: Anyone has a good alternative to suggest?
My miners are already on alternative single coin pools, but I would prefer the BTC payout.
Thanks

Mining Pool hub can be configured to auto exchange all coins to any coin of your choice, so you can set it to change to BTC.

Being a miner; hopefully not. Lazy people shouldn't earn as much as they do with nicehash (which is still way too low compared to "manual" mining).

Call me what you want, but difficulty across the board has dropped significantly already and if a nicehash hack is what it takes to shake at least some of the plug and play miners who doesn't even have any idea of the coins they mine, as they only get paid in BTC, I'm all for it.

100% agree...i hope this nicehash and this lazy fucktard miners will never return

Sad event for Nicehash. I would not be surprised if very high fees gonna be higher. In general, there will be a lesson for everyone else that you need to be more careful about security of your wallets

This #NiceHack turned out as a perfect example why centralization is bad. I feel sorry for everyone who got hacked today thanks to NH.

I know some people that switched to winminer on the Windows side, I suspect I will try it out on a small rig to see what it's about.

Kinda was a good little lesson.

Its going to be interesting watching difficulties and prices of Alts fluctuate from the fallout.

Nicehash was seling your hashrate to the highest bidders and getting bitcoin in return, am I right? Because I have never used nicehash. What about to try Minergate? As I know they aren't so good but it can be considered as an alternative of nicehash.
It's sad they didn't care about security, hope they'll come back.

Indeed that is how it was supposed to work, though I'm not quite certain how they did it internally cause I have never seen any of the miners idle-ing (as in waiting for some order from a buyer).
Minergate looks like an option at the moment, and i will be reading into it, as is the Mining pool hub mentioned earlier,
thanks for the input everyone

Of course it's too bad that it happened. I did not use NiceHash.
But I know a good alternative - minergate.com
Good luck!

Will be looking to nemosminer as well, thanks for the suggestion.
In the meantime, the plot (bad news?) thickens according to the post from earlier https://www.justcryptonews.com/291/breaking-nicehash-has-been-hacked-50mln-missing and Reddit :

According to a reddit user the owner of Nicehash company with a share capital of half a million euros is Bitorious (45%) based in Dornberk, its director is Marko Kobal, and 55% of the company is owned by H-Bit. The owner of H-Bit is Martin Škorjanc. An interesting fact is that Martin Škorjanc is the father of Matjaž Škorjanc, who was arrested by Slovenian police for an online cyber crime with the help of the US FBI in Maribor. According to BBC Matjaz Skorjanc was arrested in 2010 after a two-year investigation into malware that had hijacked about 12.7 million computers around the world.

Are things getting wild? :o :o

I think we all need to hold off on the assumptions and wait to see how this plays out. With a crime that has numbers this large all eyes are going to be on them. I'm optimistic they will sort this all out.

This is not exchange, this is not pool. This is the place where people sell their hash power to buyers, and you mine altcoins for them. A lot of people didn't meat THRESHOLD because of limits on site that where put aka if you have 0.1 on your wallet(external) or 0.001 on Nicehash's wallet then you can withdraw money and fees were awful(i wouldn't call them fees but more extra charge). So evne if you had 20-30$ you can't withdraw them because the system was made like that... But hey... its to late to cry over spilled milk.

True, though multi-day minimum payment thresholds are also to blame here, (NH paid weekly at best) and that's a common problem across many pools. (Nanopool, Ethermine, slushpool, etc, etc).

Obviously, transaction fees start to be an issue if you go the other way to be fair...

Very sad day indeed , I was one of those lazy miners , I was introduced to Nicehash back in June , I have not looked back since , thankfully I have cashed out every Friday....this Friday will be the first Friday I have not cashed out !!!!

I guess I have to get real or sell my kit !! thankfully not a bad time to be selling hardware due to the price of BTC going through the roof :)

Maybe jump back in when a real lazy style alternative shows up.

Nicehash is dead in the water , anyone hold their breath for it come back online anytime soon , is likely to run out of breath !!! but I shall holds out until Monday and see what happens!

I hope it won't come back online, and if it does, only a lazy retard would do mining there to get scammed once again ;D

When Bitcoin price surges, human nature shows itself, always the same excuse "oh dear, I've been somehow hacked", lies and more lies, but don't worry, Lambos are unworthy in hell.  ;D

IMHO no sense to kill working profitable business. They could get more profit just working or sell it.
They might have had about 64 million reasons/"senses"...

Why so rough? I know enough about mining, but I ended up at Nicehash. After some time, the daily currency monitoring is no longer fun. And having a BTC has always been a guarantee of currency appreciation.

Are you a worker bee? Lol. Probably why you have negative trust rating? Like you rejoice in the misfortunes of others just because of envy. I'm sorry that it happened. I've seen a lot of tears over the theft of personal wallets a few hundred dollars. In the case of nicehash we are talking about millions. I see no reason for joy.

Do you think it will restore services? From the viewpoint of the miners, it will probably be OK if at least they promise gradual refunds on profits, but much more there have the buyers left.

I think they are done for good, and I wouldn't be surprised to see another service start up and take their place.  Nicehash wasn't the most user friendly from the buying perspective.  About the only thing it had going for it was that it made it extremely easy for miners.  People seem to only be thinking about the miners who got fucked.  But I am guessing the big time hashrate buyers had quite a bit of bitcoin in their nicehash wallet for purchases.  Who knows what happened exactly but I am willing to bet whomever is responsible had inside access. No company would be that stupid to keep so many bitcoins in a hot wallet.

Well ... I was getting more than $6/day per RX Vega 56 with NH when BTC was around 15K.  Now it seems I'll be lucky to get $4/day per card mining Monero with XMR-STAK (1800ish h/s per card).  I'm not sure why so many people are saying their profits have increased substantially due to a decrease in difficulty.  If that's the case, what am I missing?

I said that people are saying their profits have increased due to the difficulty level decrease that having NH out of the picture has created.  That has nothing to do with what anyone is mining with.  The night before NH went down, I was hitting about 6.50/day per card with them.  When they went down, people started saying they were seeing record profits because NH was down, so difficulty had decreased with all of those NH users not mining.  I tried switching to XMR-STAK.  NH was paying more per card to mine Cryptonight than a mining pool with XMR-STAK mining Monero straight up.  All of that while difficulty is supposedly down?

Honestly might as will go back to nicehash when its back up.  One thing you can be sure of is their security will be beefed up hard.  It is really a decent service if you are lazy and or have asics.  I will probably go back when it's up just for ease.  There is no great alternative out there.  I prsonally point only my asics there and all of my miners I run some simple miner and some other stuff.

Exactly, much more had to be in the wallet of the buyer. And I would not be surprised if it launched a new competitive service next week.

Thanks

I went to Awesomeminer/Zpool.ca after yesterday.  Zpool website has been iffy all day, not showing any productivity and now the page is down with the following message, "Frontend offline to help reduce the load to catch up on the backlog of earnings in our DB."

Hopefully everything is good, electric heat is expensive.

I was mining with two S9s for about a day and this happens. It's not a big loss for me but I know how much of a loss it is for people that had more crypto on their accounts. Guess it's just one downside to being lazy.

You can't blame the victims because nice hash decided to run off with everyone's money, they offered a service that worked for some who were willing to sacrifice a bit more of profit for the convenience. This is really no different than paying exchange, pool, or miner fees. At just about every step of the game you end up needing to trust someone and they could turn out to be a scammer and run off with your funds. Sure you could solo mine to your own wallet and never move the coins anywhere ever, but then what would be the point.

Not really.  I personally wouldn't call someone lazy who has made learning about cryptocurrency a second full time job for the past several weeks.  I tried NH to get my foot in the door and start generating some $ as a miner who has had my first 6 gpu rig running for less than a week.  I wasn't interested in letting $3500usd worth of hardware sit and not generate anything while I explored other avenues.  On another note, my rig is finally up and running mining something that has required a lot of time and effort.  Thanks for all of the help.

You might want to stop spending your time as a fool so quick to judge anyone who ever used NH and begin by educating yourself on the proper use of punctuation.  That would instantly make more seem a little more intelligent.  Which in your case, is very much needed.

P.S. ... There is a huge difference between your and you're.  Perhaps you should take another look at getting your G.E.D.

Agree with u) If it is honest everybody who is minnig pools are lazy) The most profit comes from newest coins that nobody had heard;) If u are working somethere else, nice helps u realy fast check profitability and choose algo. If the main job minnig ok u can do all manually, it's your choice.

Hey guys.  I just registered an account here and figured I would ask a few stupid questions and get laughed at some haha.  Anyway, I was one of the people who got screwed over by nicehash, but stuff happens and life goes on.  I followed the advice on here and downloaded the NemosMiner 2.2.1 and it's currently running.  I've got a really stupid question though...How do I know when I will get paid or how much I have earned?  With nicehash there was an entire gui/interface that showed everything nice and clear.  With all of the command prompt setups, I have no idea how to figure that out.  I have read a ton about mining, but I still have a lot to learn.  Hopefully you guys won't be to hard on me and help me swap over from what apparently was the dark side.

Thanks again for the help to whoever answers.  If you need any further information let me know.

PS: One more quick question, can the NemosMiner use your CPU as well?  I have a nice new shiny 8700k that I would like to mine with as well if it's possible.  I know certain currencies can be mined with it, I believe cryptonight or keccak, but I could be wrong.  I just don't know if you can do it with NemosMiner / ccminer or if I need something completely separate for that.

Sorry for the noob questions, but I am just starting out lol.  If you guys are curious or it helps at all, I have a single gtx 1080, 8700k, 16gb of ram and a great cooling setup.  Temps at full load are below 50c on the cpu and below 63C on the GPU.

Edit:  Well I figured out how to see how much I am making, I feel pretty stupid now haha.  Still need to find out how to mine with my cpu though instead of just my gpu.  Any tips would be appreciated!

I all ways thought the owners of nice hash were shady but didn't think they were that bad..

Well, to be honest, the fact that someone has bad history, is ..well just that. Otherwise, the law states, innocent until proven guilty :)
Despite shady past history, I actually do not think that this is an inside job after all. Time will tell I guess.

The good news (for those who still want to just click and mine without tinkering and ever optimizing hardware, pools etc etc) is that they are probably coming back online sometime soon. https://www.justcryptonews.com/294/nicehash-coming-back-online

We shall see, how that plays out...
