Title: How much GAS is required to get your Ethereum transactions processed?
Post by: iconoclast on December 10, 2017, 02:52:41 AM
As many of you will know the Ethereum network is having trouble processing transaction because of the increased volume created by CryptoKitties.
If you have had a transaction that processed recently please post how long it took to complete and how much GAS was used.

When you do etherdelta transaction , you should have at least 60 gas price. Otherwise not done quickly

Hope things will improve a bit soon. It's getting kind of annoying these high gwei prices on small transactions.

This CryptoKitties is really a headache in Ethereum network. We use 50 gwei to make sure the transaction won't miss. It's a headache just like bitcoin network specially when you send small amount of ethereum.

Because of CryptoKitties, if you really need almost immediately transaction, set it to 60+.
If you can wait for a while, set it to 40+.
At least this is what I'm doing in last CryptoKitties days. It is working even for EtherDelta.

Can anybody tell me how to set that gwei? and the gas price as well? I can only change the 21000 to any numbers but cant able to change gwei. I only use myetherwallet.

I usually use 21000, 20 GWEI in myetherwallet when sending ethereum to other wallets. It's fast for sometime but not for today, I've read that cryptokitties made the transaction volume bigger resulting to slow transaction and many unconfirmed ones.

Normally I use
Gas limit: 21000
Gas price: 4-12 Gwei
But from some days the ethereum network got a bit slow because of the crypto kitten and because of that now I've to use
Gas limit: 75000
Gas price: 60-85 Gwei

Its like pumping gasoline the more gas you put the further it can go it is the usual thing and in the gas price if you pay only a small amount the transaction will be slower and faster if you do the other way.

I think the best moment you should not trade is because it can be risky with your money.

I use 55Gwei, transcaction succesful in 1min

I am also aware of it, and I also do anticipation for it. such as setting gas prices to 50 Gwei or more, to minimize pending transactions  ;D

Please what is this Cryptokitties stuff that's really causing trouble for us? Is there nothing Ethereum blockchain can do about it. Sudden increase in transaction gas for the benefit of who? We need to understand something.

That depends on your transaction. if you are going to send ethereum to another address and I should suggest you to put 30k for gas limit and you can try to increase the gwei to the maximum (it's around 60 gwei)
Remember if you are using mew and 60 gwei should be the maximum input. If you wanna increase the fees and you should try to put the more gas limit. The more gas limit will generate you transaction with high priority and it will be mined for some minutes.

I use 61 gwei.
Have made around 25 trades with Cats on the network.
All in 4-10 sec.
The price for 61 gwei is around 0.5$ (I don't know anything about it but found a calculator).

As far as I know CryptoKitties a cat trading game that runs on Ehereum network. It went viral that's why the ETH network is so clogged that its really hard to transaction now without increasing the GAS. You can compare the slowness and huge transaction fees to the bitcoin network now. Short term solution is to really increase the GAS. Long term? Because its not really practically to used high GAS. But I'm sure this kind of games would last, and it will die down naturally. We just have to wait though till it subsides and see the network back to normal again.

I usually use 21000 gas in myetherwallet when sending ethereum or tokens to other wallets but it's not working like before for last few days because of Pressure on Ether platform, i think. But, I get a successful transaction by using below configuration here:

Gas Limit: 31000
Gas Used By Txn: 21000
Gas Price: 0.000000041 Ether (41 Gwei)

It's amazing that these crypto Tamagotchis have clogged the network. Some conspiracy theorists think that it was actually a plot to slow down Ethereum, much like the recent spam attacks in Bitcoin. Similar to Bitcoin, I think the fee market will eventually prevail. People will start to weigh the cost of transactions against priority. They'll start using non-priority fees, making less blockchain trades, batching payments, etc. and we'll find some equilibrium. Eventually, I think sharding will make all of this a non-concern.

If you have had a transaction that processed recently please post how long it took to complete and how much GAS was used.

I've had transactions confirm recently with 30-45 gwei, not immediately though. I sent one transaction today with 50 gwei and it was confirmed within a minute. It seems like things are calming down a bit.

21000 gas is the default in myetherwallet when sending ethereum or tokens to other wallets but it's hasn't been really functional in the last couple of days due to the increase in transaction load on the Ethereum platform. But I think setting the gas to a figure higher than the default e.g Gas Limit: 31000 usually does the trick.

And it processed 30 minutes ago with:
Gas Limit: 250000 Gas Used By Txn: 23028 Gas Price: 0.000000004 Ether (4 Gwei) Actual Tx Cost/Fee: 0.000092112 Ether ($0.04) Cumulative Gas Used: 2950033

With 50Gas set on your transactions, you are good to go. Hope the clogging get resolved on time.

Actually, I have 2 transaction stucked. Thanks for the info about gas required to go through, I will try at 40+ later.

currently i'm using 31 GWEI and it's take only 30 cents and 2 minute time. not bad

The last time I put gas on Etherdelta it was around 40 Gwei and I waited around 6 hours for my transaction to go through. Still am currently having problems with the Ethereum blockchain and I do hope it'll be fixed soon.

You can just open completed transactions list and investigate for yourself (https://etherscan.io/txs). Also there are websites which collect and display ethereum network stats, you can go there and check the estimate for your transaction and safe GWEI values (https://ethgasstation.info/). Also check how many transactions are queuing at the moment (https://etherscan.io/txsPending).

You can go to https://ethgasstation.info/ to see current recommended Gas prices. Currently, 30 gwei should give you a <5 min confirmation.

Thanks, so that's mean the cryptokitties not so popular now... But I really afraid of 1000 cryptokitties coming soon.... :(

Yes myetherwallet default gas price is 21000. Its so cool. But of you want to so fast transactions then, you need to grow it. I suggest 27000 to 28000 gas price not bad. Try best.

oh now its 0.34 $

last time i checked ethereum was second most efficient blockchain plattform with 0.26$

now compare that with what is possible (waves) wich is 0.005$

this is already enough information to consider market correcture, from ethereum towards other plattforms

this is because of the many etherspeculants.
