Is uniform really necessary to students? Do we really need to formalize students to study? In most asian countries many require School uniform, mostly because of distinction of schools. However in the US, students can wear whatever they want for as long as they follow the dress code of the school on what is considere appropriate. What are your thoughts in this matter, do we really need school uniforms for students? Give some specific reasons why or why not.

It's probbly not needed, but its still better to have children go to school in uniforms. They will be representing their schools and that would in a way teach them to be responsible with their actions. It also in a way give them a sense of belonging.

I never liked the school uniform. It is not convenient and not beautiful. Moreover, I do not like to wear skirts, but only boys wore trousers. But in some schools and universities, it looks beautiful :D

Yes it is necessary because through it, people can notice that a student is a student. Wherever students go, they will easily be notices and may avail the discounts for them. School uniforms that we wear is the representation of our school, so wherever we go, we are carrying the name of our school and so the people around us will respect us.

In some developed countries uniforms are no longer needed, because uniforms are very burdensome to students in learning, freedom without wearing uniforms will help students in psychology in learning. Some countries that have long not require students to wear uniforms are the United States, Singapore, Malaysia, Europe, and other countries.

Uniforms are a way of discipline. The way a student inculcates in himself a sense of discipline. Moreover it helps create equality and parity between various students (poor or rich) as everyone will be dressed the same. And there would not be any feeling of jealousy among the students. It also helps the students to feel and be a part of the mother institution which further helps there all round development.

School uniform is very important for the purpose of identifying students or pupils of one school from the other. The school uniform help to strictly discipline students to appear neat and smart in order to inculcate coordinated appearance for activities and others that actually require them to be in uniform.

I asked the same question with my teacher in my childhood. The replied was, school uniform is a part of  discipline which school teach the students.It maintain equality between different economic class people. Means, all the student will come with same dress irrespective of their economic condition which help not to distract the poor people children  from the rich people children dress up and other things.

The point is that school students look neat, uniformity is a nice view. Also to prevent students from poor families from shame. I just imagine, if the school does not require students to wear uniforms, the rich will be fashionable and stylis style, while the poor only wearing makeshift clothes. Yes. I believe that it is necessary. Else the students will start coming to school in hip hop styles, which can create a lot of nuisance and distraction. We need strict regulations not only in dress code, but also in language and manners.

But why would you need to recognize the school?
I had no uniform at school and I don't know anybody that did. We were allowed to wear whatever we chose to and it was also easier and cheaper for the parents as they didn't have to buy a closet full of uniforms that would then have to be thrown away when the child graduates.

Probably it´s necessary in the first years of school because it lets to the kid understand that he is part of a community, it teach responsability, it enable to the people understand who is from the school and who not and it create an artificial equity because the poorest and the richest would be dressed equally. However these positive effects wouldn´t be so pronounced in the oldest, so in the last years of school,they wouldnt be necessary.

In my country there are none, I'm not been used to, some school in the past proposed it to disincentivize teenagers to buy expensive and useless designer clothes just to appear, in that optic I thinks it's not bad.

In my country school uniforms are mandatory from the basic to the secondary schools or as most people term it, the high schools. But in my opinion it's not really important at all and just a waste of money on the parents who are forced to buy them because it doesn't in no way improve the children on the academic level or has any advantages whatsoever.

Uniforms are necessary not just for distinction but also for the security of the students. Students who dont wear uniform may be mistaken as outsiders or could be robbers or extremist. On the other hand, wearing uniforms make school formal and also it promotes discipline and proper decorum among students.

I think wearing uniform is not actually really necesary to wear, I am actually studying in a school where we are only required to where uniform on my major subjects and the rest is up to you on what you would wear.  I like the freedom of choosing your dress on going to school because you'll have the chance to mix and match your dress and you would comfortable about it.

I am against having school uniforms in schools. I think everyone has the right to wear what he wants. From the fact that you will wear a form more cleverly you will not become. I do not see the point.

I don't think schools need to have uniforms. They say that they impose uniforms in their students to have equality among them. But the fact of the matter is, life ain't equal and in context fair. Very good points, however in most cases that is not the issue. It's not like the care about the image of the student but rather its just culture. It is also a way to advertise the school, heck those who are in charge of the school loses their mind if someone wearing their uniforms were seen doing unethical things.

Of course, we need to have a dress code in school  and Students must wear school uniforms because In most of the countries, they have great income inequality in their society. For hiding income inequality , students must wear school uniform for the sake of society.

It is not really needed while we learn but here in our country we should wear Schools Uniform for the students to be more responsible with themselves, to have a proper hygiene and for a student to know especially for pre-school-ers that they already need to go to school, so that they will distinguish if that is the time to go to school. While we are young we should already know that formalization of the school and for them to learn how to be neater to themselves.

Different school, have different uniforms so you can point out the student on where he/she studying, uniforms symbolizes the school itself and most gathering outside the schools, uniforms make the teachers easily see and guard those pupils, this made easy for them to look after the children.

For me having a uniform it represent that you are student in that particular school and also helps determine that you are student because of your wearing and gives you the identity...but in other country they don't have uniform like USA and others but in our country we have it saw we just embrase it...

For me its important. Uniforms is a way to represents your school. Atleast it will bring excitement to every kids and will show how we are being teach by showing how we act.

In reputable Universities uniforms are nothing but decoys, it's better to implement no uniform.

We don't totally benefit in wearing school uniforms, so it is not so much necessary, but instead, it is another expenditure. School uniform is just for identification to where school a certain person belongs. And sometimes, it acts like our signature here in bitcointalk, it can be use as a tool to attract investors. My school also had a dress code - an office style. I would soften it a little, adding jeans and more casual, but in general this is enough. The form is associated with the military, doctors and other strict professions.

In early and middle school - yes, I think that it is absolutely okay. In high school and universities - it must be optional, depending on the case, I think. It's an amazing tool to keep discipline.

I think it is good to ware uniforms because it will give student a proper look. It will change a student from other people. The society will look at the student as a student. Then the student is also having a good impression and a good personality.

School uniform has its purpose when there is a big difference between social classes of pupils. If one has only two pairs of jeans for the whole year and the other changes it's cloth every day then it shows his wealth and may cause suffering and envying by other pupils. However, nowadays there are other ways to notice wealth of others.

I don't think you need uniforms in school. I mean yeah you could say that it's a training ground for when you're in corporate where you wear a uniform to represent a company or a brand. But for me, it's actually a good expression of yourself. It also makes you get over the fact that others may have better stuff than yours and handle others with less than what you have

I think uniforms have become the ideal specific rule. With the same clothes, there will not be too much economic difference between students. If students are freed to wear what they want, there will be a divide between the rich and the poor. The poor can be inferior to hang out, luxurious clothes, expensive will be very contrast seen with ordinary clothes.

i think its necessary as western and eastern schools are different.
Since most schools are from 3rd world countries, the school uniforms will help reduce cost in buying new clothes.

Every country has it's ruling on that matter. First, we must consider private and public school. Public school is controlled by our government while private school is controlled also but the school has the power to implement it's own rules and laws. School uniform represents the school and the unity of every students. School uniform is good if it was free and given by the school. On the other hand, like we entering to others house, we must obey their rules since we are in their territory. If we do not want their rules then we are free to go and  find another one to fit our self and pride. Just the same to this situation.

The school uniform has function to differentiate from other schools and with the school level above or below it, and to discipline clothing worn by students. Every color in the uniform usually has a motivating meaning to the student, but depending on the school's policy and the rules applicable in a country, whether the uniform is important or not.

In Elementary and Highschool, I think that wearing uniforms is necessary. This is for the students to be recognized as part of the school for uniformity and incase of emergency. While in college, the students can opt to where whatever they like but still appropriate since they are kind of like young adults now.

Much as I found school uniforms ugly when I had to wear them, in time I found they do have a good use. I always thought it's a disadvantage for poor students since they have to buy these. Wrong. Wearing their worn-out clothes to school just make them stick out even more and become targets for bullies. (Not that bullies need additional reasons to prey on others.)

The creativity is an important aspect in the development of a student, but at the same time i think that the uniformity in school is a positive thing because this way children realize that at that point they have the same chance in life.

The obligation to use school uniforms has become part of school discipline and implemented strictly. Starting from the terms of shape, size, attributes, badges, materials, even the rules of purchase .remembered clearly when I was required to wear my junior name badge on the right arm, the Intra School Student Organization (OSIS) label in the right pocket, the name label on the left, the shirt inserted, black shoes and plain white socks. all the rules are given with frills to instill discipline, love, and a sense of pride in the school.

The argument goes both ways. Uniform makes all look similar and has corporate looks and feel. Everyone dresses the same, not income difference can be seen. However, no uniform is choice  and freedom, however, some people wear expensive and others feel left out and left behind by this.

I will still want students to wear uniform at school. For me, requiring students to wear uniform will make students have displicine on how they look. Yes ofcourse it is necessary because it is a represention of you as a student and you as your school. As we wear our school uniform, we are also wearing the name of our school. It is important for us to wear it since it provides as respect and dignity as students. It'll make us look disciplined and neat.

For me, it is just okay. It gives the student a sense of distiction and also shows equality for everyone. If there would be uniforms, there would be no way for us if a child has a class or not or at least what achool they belong to.

well, the more complete we use the uniform every day according to school rules, it means we are doing obedience and discipline. This attitude is very useful for us in the future.

In Asian countries,  wearing a school uniform is not to formalize the students,  but it has purpose and meaning. It is used as an identity of the school, and to make all students are equally same. If all the students wear the same uniform, they will look equal, no bullying. But,  if they wear any clothes,  it will make a social gap among the students.
Well, it doesn't matter what you're wearing at school,  (at least it should be polite clothes) , the important thing is your purpose of going to school that is to study.

I remember back around 1996 or so Bill Clinton saying that all kids should wear school uniforms and being really against that idea. But now I agree with it, that way what you're wearing is less of an issue for these insecure teenagers.

I think it is relative, sometimes with a uniform not guaranteeing disciplined students, it depends on the school's rules and policies and the agreement between the school and the parents of the students, the discipline and the seriousness of the learning back on their respective awareness through quality education. on the other hand uniform as a tool or symbol to unify the perception of intention and educational goals in an institution, so as to achieve a good education that regenerates the science of useful and dignified. with the full support of various parties, both institutions, communities and governments.

I remember when I was still a students in high school I want a perfect uniform,neat and clean to present every time I go to school.I want to be a role model of being a good student and hard working for my self.Wearing my uniform is the result that I am going to school and I represent it in my school to discipline their students.

Every schools do have their own rules and regulations that everyday  students are need to follow.  It is a requirements in most school to have a uniform to distinguish you from other school.

I feel like as time goes on, we are demanding the youth of today to grow up faster and faster. Schools are shortening breaks, computers provide an avenue for teachers to assign unbearable homework loads, and we are only hiring those with college degrees. I think that in order to develop into the best versions of themselves that they can be, kids need to be able to be kids. Let them wear what they want for. Don't force them to grow up into the business aspect of life prematurely.

Wearing school uniforms or not its not connected how you do study. But for me, I will always look for a school uniform because its nice to have uniforms even you are already in college. I think students should have school uniforms. That shows that all students are equal. So students will not feel discriminated against and will be more confident in school. For me, I agree of school uniform because I don't have plenty of dress to wear everyday, I have only 5 pieces of dress so what if the school don't require uniform so I will be bully with my classmates for always wearing my dress and make as my uniform. In my country there were some years when students were not required to wear the uniform anymore, and everybody could be dressed however they wanted. Well, I recently found some photos with classmates from that period and... we all looked like a mess! As long as the uniform is simple, in 2-3 colours, I have nothing against it. It can be a reason of pride - you show you belong to a prestigious institution. And in the worst case it gives young people something to rebel against :)

Here in Philippines, usually Primary and secondary grade schooler are the one required to have uniform for security purposes, because of bunch of students vs. The security in charge,he cannot attend to familiarize each kids, thats why they are required to have uniform, i guess that is one way to guide pupils on how they will presemt themselves for future purposes.

School children of  Asian region are practiced to wear a special cloth to attend school and it was identified as school uniform.Because of this uniform it shows the person who is wearing it as a school child. Most of the countries of  Asian region are using various types of school uniforms and the same time those are varying according to the school. Hence, the school uniform represent the name of the school as well. So it helps to develop a school child as a disciplined person by holding a responsibility and the honor of the school where the child is from. So it is an important and tactical way to make a child as a well disciplined person.

School uniform is necessary to teach a child how to obey and how to avoid the rules. For the silly one that means he is tough to be "a slave". But he will be a slave anyway! For the strong that rules means he will think why and for what purposes does "the ruler" (a.k.a. school) need that rules and he's learning how to get identity when you're at "herd".

I don't like school uniform but for me is necessary to wear it because not all of us have enough money to buy what they call special clothes  for school. That show all of the students are equal.

God forbid children learn a little discipline and respect before they enter the workforce.  There is nothing worse then having new hires come to work in ripped jeans and a t-shirt.  Professionalism is not taught in schools anymore including dress codes

Uniform is a identity of a person. It represents your institute, where you're from. And i think it should be, because uniform removes discrimination between rich and poor.

Yeah it is necessary according to my opinion. There may be various kinds of students with different family status. A school must be a place which practises equality to all the students and make the students feel there is no difference between them. That's how the best output can be obtained from a student. Therefore school uniform is much necessary.

Per my experience and observations I have made, i highly recommended school uniforms to students. one of such observations is that people behave differently depending on how they dress. That's true. When I was a student, I used to wear the uniform and I never complained about it. Still there were special occasions (twice or thrice a year), when we were permitted to wear whatever we want. But as you said, even during such rare occasions, the class divide became quite prominent. The poor kids could not afford good clothes and I could notice their lack of confidence and sadness.

Uniforms are not required in my country, and i'm not in favor or not in favor. I loved my school blazer but couldn't afford a good one  :'(..
The only one i could afford was what the government grant money allowed me to buy we in the UK the poor got a school uniform grant to buy school uniform ..
The blazer i could only buy every 2 years if lucky because the money wasn't enough to buy a good blazer shoes pants and what not..
BUT now the poor UK children don't even get a school grant anymore .. :'(

Because your all the same in the school one rich child will dress better than a poor child and the poor child will get abuse..
They do i been there getting called a tramp because your trainers are not as good as the richer children so you get called a tramp and it hurts when loads of children call you names .. :'( :'(

In our country we are having both private education institutes and free education institutes which are totally sponsored by the government. Government is distributing uniform materials for free of charge to government school students. This is a good concept for a country like us. In our country government schools are more popular compared to private schools. Children from all levels of income earners are attending to same schools without any classification and barrier. In order to maintain equality with school students, school uniforms are very important in our country. But this uniform designs can vary school to school. Because of that I think school uniforms is very much required to our county in order to maintain equality among school children.

I think uniform is not that necessary for the studying of the students because we went to school to study and gain knowledge that we can apply in our life as we grow and experience the real world. In our university, All Engineering students have no uniforms and it is not require to use uniforms but in others courses in our university, they all required to wear uniforms because their reason is to become the students formal physically. Like for Accounting students, I.T students, Vets, Nurses etc... Professors always allow them to wear formal attires and uniforms.

As to my opinion school in developing countries, uniforms are mostly necessary for school children because there are no any deferences among each and every student. Can be some students are rich and some are poor.  In other way schools looks very smart and neat clearly can identify students. 

I feel strongly both ways.  On one hand the uniform takes the peer pressure of of the students because everybody dresses the same, and it helps take pressure of of the parents in that they don't have to worry about fads and fashion.  On the other hand it does limit the individuality of each student.

School uniforms can serve some useful purpose, in that it may alleviate some of the peer pressure that students feel to wear the latest trends, wear something new every day. It makes students more equal. And not having to worry about what to wear each morning is ideal.

I think school uniforms are great! However, there can be issues if schools do not have in place measures that enable students who are from low-income families to buy the school uniform, to buy enough of each to be able to wash them, etc. Unfortuanetly, this is still an unadressed issue in many parts of the world.

I believe that the school uniform is not necessary. Pupils should have the right of freedom of expression. But! They should comply with the banal framework of the dress code, so that their appearance is not too pretentious and provocative.

Countries have each own culture and beliefs. School uniform is one way of remaining the cultural school dress. Without uniform some school looks like disrespectful to their own school and to their ancestors. This is a big issue in nowadays because some principals or Dean or the president of one school can make it in corruption mode that seems right for the entire system but actually have the big defects inside the system. I'm torn regarding this. In a way, I would prefer to not wear my school uniform so that I can be more relaxed or have freedom to go wherever I go without being tagged as a student of x school/uni. 1. It limits the ability of children to stand out from the crowd, which is very important during the school years.

This became an issue in my country as some people in the government are pushing to eliminate school uniforms in public schools. At first, I really want to see myself in the situation where I go to school like those in the american movies. But as I think of it, I realized that it is better to stay at having school uniforms. First reason is that it is practical. An argument says that it is cheaper to have no uniforms but they don't know that students might have hard time to buy more clothed as they don't want to wear clothes again and again. I think that uniforms has its pros and cons.
