It is not possible to hack a website. There are so many hackers who are skilled enough to do that. But I was shocked to see the threads having titles saying that etherdelta was hacked. Anyway, just stop trading in the site first, for the safety of your coins or tokens.

It's not about the decentralized exchange but it's about the DNS already hacked and then the scammer tries to put the backlink and then that makes the visitors will be automatically directed to the fake site. You may need to read more about that.
This case was similar to coindash ico. The hackers were hijacking the site and then try to replace the real address with a fake address. This is same as etherdelta case.

WHAT...  just transfered some coins on etherdelta this week, i did think previously that etherdelta can be a prone on hacking because of private key issue, it is the only exchange that needs a private key, but no choice , my coin can only be trade on etherdelta :(

I was shocked about this, I have many token in this exchange. But any can explain detail why decentralized exchange can be hacked? I think this is the most secure exchange because we own the private key.

Here is a useful post on the subject stickied to the top of /r/ethtrader. It includes info on how to get your coins out of ED without having to go to the compromised website:

I just read more news about the situation. Really as far as we know it is impossible to hack a decentralized exchange, but the question is, DNS is centralized. Centralization leaves vulnerability, EtherDelta is in trouble.

I never liked their UI. Last week I was trying start trading hopefully I did not move my tokens to ED.

i don't know if we should change our Wallet and Transfer  all the Coin
that is in old Wallet that used in etherdelta site.
just don't access your Private Key or do some Transaction
now in Etherdelta so you can be safe

Hackers are making ways just to earn money easily, I personally have some token on etherdelta and I'm glad that Its not huge amount of money but it is still important for me. We should be more careful now because a lot of aggressive people wants to scam so many people.

He only want to make him self being apart of a viral news without even read the news it self.
Website hacked is different with DNS hacked. Etherdelta still have access to their site, but clients who want to visit their current domain (etherdelta.com) will directly send to another phising site that have similar interface.

This is bad news. I really socked, i have many token there. I hope everything back to normal soon. Which exchange will be the most secure?
Your tokens are safe as long as you are not re-import account's private key to the phising site.

This is bad news, but its not really impossible that their website will be hacked. You just have to guard yourself from possible fraud. Keep yoir tokens safe 😉

It is very sad news that etherdelta DNS is hack. There are many hacking attacks on ethereum platefarms in last two three months. Which is very annoying. They have to more secure take more security measures to protect their clients.

Well, your best bet is to be using a hardware wallet. That way even if the site is hacked or compromised in anyway, you stand to lose nothing and of course avoid keeping your coins on exchanges, people spend years studying how to hack platforms and eventually exploit a flaw they find so be safe and keep your currencies off exchanges.

I think so too. I tried accessing that site to check price rates of my tokens but unfortunately my browser warned me that it isn't safe to enter that url so I did not continue. Good thing my browser has some sort of antivirus and security protection.

Etherdelta actually log out all the account when the DNS hack started. If you do not reload your private key to the phishing site you are definitely safe. Avoid anything etherelta for know and keep abreast of happenngs on this section!

Oh my! I saw the news.
They were really hacked and 267 Ethereums were stolen.
You see, no Exchange site is incapable of been hacked.
That is why it is always advisable not to leave you coins in an exchange site.
Even leaving it in an online wallet is not secured either not to talk of an exchange site.
Anything, can happen there.
Well, they have advise users not to send or use the exchange for now. The point is, the coins can't be recovered. :'(

I do not believe it can happen,, and what are the consequences of the system and the network getting worse? because now I think often interference with etherdelta.
can etherdelta find a solution to solve this?

when I saw the news, I brought everything first. I never liked this site, but there are no alternatives to the tokens, I will wait until all bugs are fixed

Decentralized exchanges such as EtherDelta based on smart contracts, cannot have funds stolen from them. However the website could be supplanted by a fake one (which is what happened, as the hacker took control of EtherDelta website DNS). So you go to the fake website thinking is the real one, and the hacker could steal your private keys.

Title: Re: Ethedelta Hacked
Post by: StraddleHQ on December 21, 2017, 05:09:04 AM
ED smart contract is impossible to hack. Infact ED is decentralised and all the functionality is governed by smart contract. In any case until the smart contract is invoked by the creator it cannot release fund. In case the smart contract release fund then it is not hacked, it is scam.

But none of fact mentioned above is true. ED is not hacked, what has been done is that ED DNS is being routed and spoofed.
There is a mile difference between Hack and DNS Compromisation.

This thread title is misleading.

straddle.fund

There's nothing safe in digital world everything can be hacked, EtherDelta dev will fix of this issue and I hope they resolve this problem as soon as possible, this hacked can bring this EtherDelta to make more secure system soon.

The first time I heard that etherdelta had been hacked by the other side I was shocked.
Because I think that etherdelta has been safe and can not possibly be cracked by others because of its high level of security.

yeah i got shocked too hearing that etherdelta getting hacked. the hacker got the access the dns server in etherdelta and redirect people into the scam site that he made on. and now the etherdelta still down, my advice dont trade right now on etherdelta or you'll token or coin will be vanish.

Any news when are they going to fix this? All my investments are still there, nothing lost. I use metamask.

Maybe I should look into alternatives like OasisDex..

Exchanges are the major targets of hackers. Any website can be hacked its not that websites can't be hacked.
Exchanges are like banks and the hackers are like the robbers . They rob whatever is possible.

If it is happen then it is a very serious matter as many people have accounts there and their accounts are at risk. They have to add more security features as millions of dollars of investors are in the system.

I hope that Etherdelta will find a solution to this. It's so terrible for us, so many users that user that website to sell Altcoins that are crap for etheriums, I hope I didn't lose any of my poor ethers that I have left there

This is a serious thing to deal with, exchanges must increase their security to prevent such hacks, ethereum is being targeted by the hackers because they see a lot of vulnerabilities in the site.

As long as you didnt make any transactions and lost money your ok.

I read an article a few hours ago explaining a few things that happened. Feel free to read too.

I don't keep my tokens on exchanges. I don't really trust ED in particular that much i hope they can bounce back on time. I dedicated a single wallet to trade there i only send token on it only when i want to trade on ED.

It was hacked and people lost money, thats a shame.
Im not sure how people will feel about EtherDelta now, maybe loss of trust.  I hope that the developers can fix this problem so it doesnt happen again.

AS long as there is a server, an IP address and an os are running a website, Its always possible to get that four things to be hacked. That's the real problem of the network. It is bad as a hacked a country exchange system. So sorry for who lost any coins during the attack..  :-[

Its such a shame because many ERC-20 users were part of EtherDelta, and the fact that some of them lost their money is sad to hear.
EtherDelta should up there security measures now after this.

I have got a big experience after my DAO coins were abducted by con men. After I don’t save my money in one wallet or in one currency. I try to diversify my investments. With Etherdelta all will be fixed. It has good specialists.
