Cryptsy is a useful exchange that allows people to exchange some popular altcoins for bitcoin. They also are having a promotion with no primecoin trading fees until the fourth. From my experience it takes about 10 block confirmations for your primecoins to be ready to be sold and coins can be withdrawn fairly easily with a relatively small fee there.

Here is a tip for you primecoiners

I ran 10 droplets on Digital Ocean and I asked them to give me 20 droplets, they agreed and allowed me to get up to 20 at one time.  

A day later, I tried to use it and it said I am only allowed to use 10 droplets. Really? Okay, so I created a support ticket, and they said No, we cannot give you 20 droplets, you are using it for Primecoin, Bitcoin, or Alt Coin mining, therefore, we cannot allow 20 at this time.

Oh not to mention, the amount of lip I got from them, it sort of like, they didn't care I was a customer.

So much for customer service. Sure, $10 coupon sounds good... wait till you become a customer for a while, and they don't deliver on their commitment.

Well primecoin is the first crypto-currency I have had the fortune to solo mine. I guess one of the most important things to consider with mining is being sure to run the software that performs the best. Follow the forums proactively, not all but many  other miners are. Keep your software up to date, benchmark and tweak setting until you are comfortable. Backup your wallet, set your wallet passphrase, keep your miners and wallets safe with strong passwords.

By the way, I made my first trade today, in person, some of my XPM for BTC.

surprised no one mentioned prime95 is an app that does something very similar to prime coin but stresses the cpu for overclocking. primes have been found through that app just as it has with primecoin

Just try out to solo mine Prime coin today with standard Prime coin client for 10 hours using Intel Core 2 Duo CPU on my Dell laptop. I learnt how to mine from this thread on PP coin forum. http://www.ppcointalk.org/index.php?topic=316.0

I mine primecoin with the only PC I have. Since I use this Windows PC for everything, I run the Primecoin High Performance client (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=255782.0) from a batch file with the following 2 lines:

start /belownormal primecoin-qt.exe
exit

(The 2nd line is optional. It closes the command line window.) This way, the primecoin crunching will have a lower priority and won't slow down the other things I do with this PC.

I'm interested in XPM after I wrote a threaded prime number finder a few years back ( http://forums.extremeoverclocking.com/showthread.php?t=283270 (http://forums.extremeoverclocking.com/showthread.php?t=283270) ). Reading up on the algorithm used from XPM, I found that none of my tricks to speed anything up applied. :(

The guys working on this really know their stuff!

I guess a good tip I have is that if you don't want to have to manually configure your miner it's easy as pie to just download the, "Miner tool" stick it in the miner folder, run it, and log in. I had trouble with .conf files and all that jazz. Great info for noobs who may not be technically efficient enough to go through same trouble.

In the Primecoin client, go to "Help" > "Debug window" > "Console" tab > type "setgenerate true -1" to use all of your cores or "setgenerate true 4" to use 4 cores, etc.
Type "getmininginfo" into the debug window to see your "primespersec" (mining rate)
If the primespersec is anything higher than 0, you are mining

while china is showing a lot of gravitas for pushing up btc price, what would be interesting is promoting an alt coin such as xpm on another major market not really all that involved yet like brazil, india or africa. getting one of these to take note in xpm would give btc a run for its coin. however without gvrnmt regulation they are in danger of being qwashed ofc! but imagine if one of these territories favored xpm and it gained enough momentum to evolve in these areas outside of the shadow of btc and eventually become competition to it (because the markets there could easily have as much impact as china to btc).
id encourage anyone involved with xpm to set up an exchange focused on these territories and figure out the best way to promote it there.

A tip that may help cryptowallet beginners :)

Beside wallets like Armory, all the wallets such as primecoin-qt MUST be backup after creating a new address.
Only then, the new address is added to the backup.

If you want to avoid making backups all the time, you can generate a few addresses in advance and then backup once for ever a while.

Of course you could then hit that NEW ADDRESS button several times but there is a more convenient way.

• Go to the Help Menu and Hit Debug Window.
• Click on the Console tab
• Enter the command getnewaddress blabla where blabla is whatever you want (you can change that later anyway).
• Press the upper arrow to bring back the last command and press Enter again
• Keep going until you made enough addresses to get started.

I do not recommend making hundreds of addresses just for fun. 10 should be good as a start!

The cpu only mining is an advantage - soemwhat. You can actually mine  scrypt with GPU and primecoin with CPU - double  mining.

Altho the only pool i found resonable hasnt gotten me any amount even worth mentioning (4 core athlon II has just got me  like 0.05 unconfirmed xpm for like 8+ hours -_-).

Best thing about primecoin is the generation of prime numbers while mining. Those are useful for many aplications, being encrytpion one of the most prominent. There's no algorithm to predict prime numbers, so using hasshing power to find them is very smart and useful.

It's really cool that you can cpu mine XPM! I've been mining it a bit with droplets with digitalcloud and beeeeer pool. So far so good, although it's not cool that the payouts are only after 3 XPM... Ypool is cool as well, you can set 1.0 XPM payout threshold, but at the time of writing it's under maintenance...

0 download Primecoin Qt wallet to obtain adress for receiving XPM
1 register at ypool.net, input adress in profile
2 download jhPrimeminer via link on ypool.net (see 'How to' --> Primecoin XPM)
3 make shortcut for jhPrimeminer.exe, on desktop for example
4 right-click shortcut and click properties
5 In the target box, add  -t 4 -o http://mining.ypool.net:10034 -u <<USERNAME>>.<<WORKERNAME>> -p <<WORKER PASSWORD>>
6 click 'apply', click 'ok'
7 doubleclick jhprimeminer.exe and presto, you're are poolmining on ypool!

Primecoin is better for regular miners, as it uses CPU, not GPU. It makes mining possible even on a laptop, no super investments in useless graphic cards required. It makes this project exciting for everybody, not only "mining GPU super investments freaks".

I got 3 mates into Primecoin! They are all mining and will not shut up about it. It is not a waste of energy, which is something they all liked.

The fact that unlike other cryptocurrencies, Primecoin uses a scientific proof of work system (Prime number chains) makes my favorite coin (A man of science here :p ), I've been spreading the XPM Virus to my friends in collegues these last few days (I myself, I'm new to the whole cryptocurrency concept and I'm trying and learning slowly but steadly about it all) and a couple of my engineering school camrads has joined the ride and more are comming :)
