What do you guys think the new year will bring us? Massive price drops or maybe prices going up? Or maybe nothing at all? Please share your expectations with me

Holidays, and especially such large, uniquely affect the market. Movement and because of work schedules, and because of legislative changes, which often come into effect in the new year. And, of course, a psychological moment. Knowingly in the new year, sellers have a decent earnings, using various methods of influencing customers. In crypto, I'm sure their own rules of the game and earnings schemes for large players. And for us it is a good time for investments. Discounts! :)

There are a lot to explain about Bitcoin and its associate Altcoins bandwagon friends. In the coming year, 2018 Bitcoin being the protocol father can either dive nose both ways; down or high carrying his cryptographic children along. Going high means all the predictions of the doom sayer is a fallacy. What actually happened in the past few days was the xmas, Hamulkah and the Kwanza fever that has a global impact on the market. We saw abnormal withdrawals of saving for these periodical events. Thus the sudden crash! The Bitcin bubble has just begun but winter  will come later but we don't know when. My advice is to tread with caution! This is what i called crypto madness. Be Wise.

Considering what happened in the past, it doesn't have much of an impact, maybe the coins go down a little but that's it. Bitcoin had a nice rally in the past weeks, so this might be just a period when it's stabilising.

New years on the market means holiday. Holiday means the market are going to close temporary. The price near holidays getting lower than busy and working time. But like holidays the effect were temporary too. Alot of icos start they sale when the holiday was over.there is not a lot of icos near holiday. Wish after new year there will be many a lot of icos, so we could doing a lot bounty.

Yes I've always been careful trading crypto's and I never really go for the big risks. Do you think the price drops in the past few weeks were because of traders withdrawing their profits to have some money for the holidays?

I think that the price will grow, players fixed profit at the end of the year, after the holidays, everyone will return to the market

I think soon the end of 2017 will reflect more and more on the market but I don't think this is a bad thing . it's just something normal. What am I afraid of is that bitcoin will continue to fall even further in 2018...:( .

We have got some serious drops in december, so I guess prices will go up again. Some people spending gifts or their new year's bonus on cryptos... Family gatherings will have spread the word of crypto too, I think. When one family member trades crypto, the holidays are the perfect time to share some knowledge with their family.

I think new year will be massive for crypto currencies and the value will rise exponentially, if you are referring to the ocassion of new year night and holidays, i think market cap can drop temporarily as people will cashout as they will need money for fun and party.

Did they go back up after a while or did they stay lower in the past? And how big was this impact (percentage)? I do believe Bitcoin will rise up again in january, but that's only my expectation.

I guess there will be a correction just as before during new years holidays. I don't think it would be huge, not deeper than -20% of the current market cap.

Wow good question. I think the market will go down a bit especially when people are buying gifts for family and friend. They will sell some of their coins for getting some liquidity for their family/friend. After new year within 2-3 weeks I think market would stabilize. However on the other hand, this is a good time to buy while the market is bleeding. I would like to save some money to buy in some coins for holding and then next year it will rise and shine.

I think starting with the new year the price will start to go up again. The correction during the second half of December combined with the tendency of people to pull money out of cryptos as the holiday season approaches created some uncertainty which led to the price decrease, but I believe the price will recover.

I don't think that there will be a massive price drop rather a gradual stable exchange since this there has been a sudden rise in the values of BTC also of other Altcoins. Well. we can't expect the values to always peak as it is right now.

This is my first year on the crypto currency market, so I do not know yet what will happen. But I think the market as bitcoin will take a lateral movement, as most people will be busy with holidays and weekends.

There are several variants of development of events. An accurate forecast will not give you one. But it is likely that before the new year holidays, many will want to cash out Bitcoin. Therefore, a short drop to 8-10K. If this happens, then after the bitcoin sprinkling of alts, this is the best time to replenish your portfolio. Second variant. It kind of already did the past two weeks, it went down and stayed low compared to earlier weeks. Ofcourse, this past week all coins have been going down but Bitcoin was already down before the holidays, so maybe it wasn't the holidays that affected Bitcoin, but something else.

for a while it seems to be down first of all, after that I am sure the beginning of the year 2018 will be riding high again the price of coins in the market and start actively back all the coins that are available.

Undoubtedly, 2017 was the year of crypto obsession. Bitcoin saw breathtaking profits, and other digital currencies, such as Ripple and Litecoin, even had a better return than a percentage point.Bitcoin increased by 1200% in 2017, starting the year at 999 dollars; Ethereum rose from $ 8.17 to $ 624.3, up 7541%, and Ripple rose from $ 0.00652 to $ 0.90, or a 13.700% increase.

Ultimately, the delay in the race we see at the moment as a whole, will continue in 2018 with all expected changes (growing players like hedge funds should get into the game, we should see the next moves of governments and central banks to legalize these markets). And, after all, this is a normal financial market that goes through the different cycles and it is quite normal to see some kind of correction after a year of growth.  And what are the 40% correction compared to 1200% growth...  :)

Most definitely, if it was not for the traders and the whales withdrawing their profit, coupled with some newbies getting scared and dumping, the market would not have gone that low. It is a normal thing and we also expected that the market would definitely test the lower support after then long ride to the top within short periods in the past few weeks. From here, we just have to expect some moves to the upper level pretty soon.

It is really a good time for old and new investors to get the best from the market in the new year. However, there is still a lot of uncertainty in the market, so with or without the new year, we will still always see some of those effects where bitcoin gets some huge correction but at least, we know it is for the ultimate good.

In 2018 though, I expect that bitcoin would become more usable as a currency which would make it a huge year for it and its value based on that. I believe the new year has brought something pretty interesting already. A lot of us were able to do some Christmas shopping with a huge discount most especially for bitcoin and be rest assured that so many goodies are awaiting a lot of the bitcoiners as we enter the new year and during 2018.

The effect so far has really been the same, and while we see some of the alts experience some boom, bitcoin usually have some pretty good correction, but it is all for good.

I think 2018 is still a bull market, so prices will still rise sharply, so don't worry about that. Hold your tokens for a good year.

The effect of crossing over to new year is already showing across market segment of cryptocurrency. We have seen incredible price run on many altcoin. In the new year however, there might be turn of event.

I think most likely the price will go down, because in the new year mostly do the holidays. For the holidays, they need a cost, they will automatically sell the assets. If many sell assets, then the price will likely fall (dump price).

True that. Also some people would be with their families and not trading so the volume of transactions will als go down.

I think that i will have no effect on the market everyday it is just like a normal trading day to them normal buying and selling coins but no one know what will happen tommorow exactly because in the future there is a lot of happening or possiblities

The coming year is very promising. But as it approaches i think it will go down a bit like what happened in Christmas. But like what happened now it will still recover. We can never really predict how it will go but in the trend that its giving, it will almost always go up.

usually the more we get to the end of the year, investors will have the tendency to sell their coins to get money to use for their personal purposes such as buying new things or taking care for their family, so we may suffer a little drop on the price of cryptos coins, but this trend wont last for long, because they will get back to work soon.

2017 was huge. 2018 is going to be massive. This is the year that the tech starts to bed down and begins to find real world applications. It will be a make or break year for a bunch of early ICOs who have yet prove themselves, especially as newcomers are starting to bring much more than an idea to the table.

Probably nothing out of the usual. I'm guessing people already cashed-out enough money before for the expenses in Christmas and new year's included. If not, then its a new year sale for bitcoin I suppose.

Don't think anything big might happened this New Year. Maybe a couple of guys would receive tokens as a gifts but no big drama literally.  ;)

In my opinion, new year will affect the market, first of all, many of us or rather all of us will celebrate, and because of this, many people want to withraw in some of their funds and in will result to dump a little bit of the coin like bitcoin

After Chinese New Year, I expect a huge surge in price once the great Chinese New Year migration is over and everyone is back home to buy BTC and altcoins.  ;)

I don't think the New Year holidays will have a negative impact on the crypto currency market.
As shown by Christmas, a minor correction may happen, but the global trend for the growth of quotations remains.
Moreover, most of the crypto-currencies merchants are from South-East Asia - China, Japan and Korea, where Christmas is not celebrated.

The effects are positive. We can buy with discounts.

Less liquidty and less volume on trading. I guess only bots are now trading on markets and this keeps market in technical ranges.

Prices for crypto coins will fall down, many holidays, non-working days all this will certainly affect the prices of crypto coins.

I think there may be a part of China in the new investors withdraw encryption sell tokens, money market, to obtain a certain amount of money, so that could lead to a certain price, because the New Year is very important in China.

This is only my personal opinion, but I think that there will be bitcoin correlation and the growth of some altcoins. Since expectations from the top currency are slightly reduced. People will have more time to pay attention to other altcoins. Even now, we see an increase in the capitalization of altcoins compared with bitcoin.

New years have a big big effect to cryptoworld if you check the market right now you will see a dump happen to bitcoin this happen because of panic selling this holiday season but other altcoin have grow like ripple that reach a all time high.
In my own opinion this new year bitcoin will surely dump but after holiday season we can expect a pump up again.

The massive dropping since 2nd week of December is due to people who are choosing to dump their coins in exchange of money because the want to give something special gifts to their loved ones instead of watching their coins grow so this effect is expected to end next week because when the year begins people will now start to invest more into cryptocurency for their future.

Bitcoin price is normal except December because it's a special holiday season that people tend to dump their coins and buy some special items for their loved ones as gifts. This is normal because people choose to sell their tokens because they think it's time to get profits from their investments few months ago.

This time I couldn't assume that Bitcoin will stay at the top because there are more better than Bitcoin in the market. Bitcoin dominance is just part of history someday and I think Segwit2x is better than Bitcoin in so many reasons due to some circumstances that Bitcoin cannot handle partly some transaction stress.

I don't think there's another bloodbath for Bitcoin and Altcoins in 2018 except in December because 2018 is promising us that it will become the best time for Cryptocurrency enthusiasts and for me it's time for me to invest more and I'm going to keep my money on my stash and some of my Ethereum coins to invest some coins while they're still cheap.

Exactly, Expect price dumps in special holidays like December, nobody is controlling the price because cryptocurrency is decentralized so people choose to sell their coins and turn into money and then buy gifts for their loved ones.
But in january, experts are assuming that everything will be ok and Bitcoin and Altcoins will go back into normal business days.

The new year is approaching and the cost of bitcoin is falling more and more. For many, December 31 was a dead line and many are in a hurry to sell bitcoin. This is not bad and not good, this is an absolutely expected situation. I think by mid-January, bitcoin will again show the bull. Here the prices of altcoins are not amenable to such an easy analysis. Part grows, others fall. It is necessary to keep a hand on the pulse.

We are already experiencing a correction. BTC down to $12.9k as I write this. But don't worry, my opinion is that after the new year holidays people will want to start fresh and invest more. Well base on my observations before this holiday season the market seems to benefit the most and the prices of top cryptocurrencies like bitcoin and ethereum tremendously increased in price where as  the sudden spike results to red markets by end of december to january then maybe gradually increase as the months of 2018 goes by.

Yeah, the market may be experiencing some downtrends now, most especially for bitcoin, but it is nothing that is usually not expected anyway, so we can imagine it to be something that is normal for the market.

Stabilization has been on now for some days and with the huge testing of ATHs within few days and on, it was very much expected and it is really good now that we eventually found a bottom and that shows some strength and health now.

I think prices going up more faster then ever before. Many investors are moving their funds from other shares to cryptocurrencies because the blockchain technology has a lot to offer in many ways and attracts investors from around the wolrd. It has just gone mainstream and marketcap multiplied several times this year. I am positive BTC gonna go up at least $50k+ by the end of 2018.

This is almost I think that after these effects of a new year holiday price will be stabilized. Price will make a big effect after this holiday seasons it will be huge. Im expecting of a fall down before this new year and after by year 2018 we could expect of pump of the price.

As of this writing BTC is at $13526 as it goes down due to some people dump there coins to have a peace of mind while on new year break.
This is the right time to buy more bitcoins as after new year this price will surely strike back in green zone.

I think when it's holiday the market is in constant but later on after the holiday season it may increase or decrease depends on the market exchange.

For the last 2 weeks of December we show significant fall for BTC after a tremendous and record breaking bull run for 2017  in my personal opinion this is due to most people are doing profit taking to spend for new year season. Large players fix their positions for the New Year holidays. I think this will lead to a decrease in volatility in the market. Also, traders also fix their positions. There may be a slight decrease, but not very deep.

That is totally normal. When I read comments I can understand who has trading experience and who hasn't. Correction is totally normal and it happens all the time in all the markets. Nothing can go up without coming down little bit, opposite is also true.

We don't know yet the effects in the market on new year because every now and then the Bitcoin price still fluctuating. Hoping that the price will not go down again just like few weeks ago.

I have been asking myself the same, it is making me a bit nervous. In 2013/2014 we have witnessed the beginning of a bear market - let's hope history won't repeat.

It seems the new year is not so influential, its effect on the market may be due to hardfork, because its hardfork ahead of the new year so impressed the new year is now bringing the change in coin prices

I think the correction we're seeing was inevitable, but this whole market is still just speculation, current value of Ripple makes them worth half of Visa?  Seems bonkers to me but the whole crypto world doesn't seem based on reality so what do I know.  Hodl for me, the more I look at short term trades the more mistakes I make.

It will be the same as Christmas. A lot of dumping, on purpose or not, dunno, and a great pump in the beginning of the year.

No need to worry my friend. Reason why market is bear now because it is new year and christmas holiday time. People need money for family presents and travels. That's why some of them is cashing out. You will see that after a week market will become bull market again.

I don't think anything too crazy will happen on the New Year. However I do think in the coming year, crypto will have more money pouring into it. People are just starting to become aware of Bitcoin and as a result people will pour money into it and alts. Should be an exciting year :)

It may be a lot's of better for all types of coins in the New Year, and may be a bit worse, because all businesses change their system at the beginning of the year, in that case you may have a slight problem. But no such kind of market has had a bad effect in the New Year, the likelihood of such an impact is very low, but I think that at the beginning of the year, it is better to work at Market Place to recognize it. Then a good idea about the market will start.

The new year will give us a very bullish market. Actually, I was thinking that the very bullish days will come in the early days and weeks of the new year but apparently it happened much earlier. We have to remember that the months of October, November, and December were very good months in terms of growth in cryptocurrencies including Bitcoin. And then later in December, the price drop of Bitcoin came. Therefore, when the correction is over, the bullish trend will definitely follow. And that would be happening in the new year.

The market affected the holiday as many people withdraw there funds and pulled out the price of coins slowly after the transaction went back to the holiday back to normal back to reality everyone happy

The price of bitcoin continue to drop while some alts are appreciating and all these happen during the holiday season I think this is a start of the next chapter for cryptos those coins that didn't appreciate in 2017 will now taking the hit in 2018 while bitcoin will remain in it's price as today with very minimal fluctuations. I think the market will now focus on alternative coins and those that has  more new technology to offer

I hope its the year of the altcoins with a steady bitcoin price that makes the other coins flow. ;D

I think the effect of the new year market is that it will decrease the value of the altcoins or cryptocurrencies becuase of the high demand for their exchange to fiat money. The effect will be that the abundance of the altcoins would increase in exchange and the demand for it will decrease.

Nothing happen seriously, it's just temporary and will gone like the wind. As trader/ investor we need to find the right moment to make money and mostly happen end of the year. For people who like challenge this is the right time to make profit because many speculation will come up and go without permission. Keep calm and for safety, never take part trading at the end of the year.

 I expect massive investments on bitcoin and ethereum.  The activities these year for both cryptos has been crazy,  so investors might be the lead to buy and hold these coins till the year end and earn from their experience.

I think new year has no effect on the cryptocurrencies in the market because I saw it just a normal flow of every currencies to go up and down and I hope this 2018 that the prediction of bitcoin to go $60k+ was right!

The price of bitcoin increased so hard and so fast, it's just natural it should go down. People, being afraid to lose their profits, want to cash out their earnings and sell out. The price will go down further to 10K, then we can all buy again. Next year the price will rise again and will hit 30K.

Crypto market is very multinational. Asian players do not care about European and American holidays and vice versa. Trade never stops. Therefore, I think that crypto will not experience any serious shocks.

During the holidays, the price will be a little less, there will be an opportunity to buy coins. From the second half of January, the price will go up.

Agree, the amazing thing about the cryptocurrencies market is it always open 24 hours, and it really makes the market never stop. But I'm sure in the holidays time people will spend less time in trading, they are not going to do many activities. So, I expect the price will consolidate.

New year means holidays and holidays do have little impact on market shares as we can't invest during holidays. which could affect the market considerably as less investment less the rates.

Keeping a tab on the past it does not seem that new year has much affect on the total market cap. There might be some coins which will take the plunge or others which might take off for the moon, but overall the total crypto market cap should remain the same.

I've been monitoring bitcoin prices since the 29th until today 31 Dec, Bitcoin seems to be starting up slightly to 13k position, the new year's effect does not seem to make people buy Bitcoin. While altcoins like the XRP that had previously risen up to $3, now has fallen again to the number $2. Eth is still stable, Cardano coins are still going up, it seems that this new year many people are trading their cash for ADA Coin. I think the new year is not too much of a big effect to boost coins prices.

Well shows the practice for the new year activity in the market is subsiding. But if you look at the ALTS, you can see that many coins shoot periodically, that this organic growth or pampus will not be judged, but it's a fact. After the new year, there will likely be a decline in the market by activity and capitalization (profit taking, withdrawal to Fiat for rest insurance) and may have new peaks in mid-January)

Yeah i agree, hollidays is our chance to buy those coins that going down the price during vacation. After vacation for sure many people will also end up their vacation and back to reality again or back to crypto again .

We are glad to see that bitcoin will shook up rapidly in the next few days along with altcoins which I believe they have good project this Q1 and alot of coins will gain more..
