We have picked a new CryptogenicBullion logo and associated bullion bar!

Honestly, this was not an easy competition to conclude as we could have literally gone in numerous different directions and ended up with an amazing logo/bar combination. However, art is subjective and we had to pick one direction. That having been said, the CGB Team is pleased to announce that we have decided on the new face of CrytpogenicBullion!

Congratulations to JoeMattie and Cryptasm!!! The final product is a blend of JoeMattie's bullion bar creation with Cryptasms branding logo (CG). Fantastic work gentleman! We are thrilled with our final product!

Also, the CGB team would like to thank all of the other artists that participated in this competition! We loved so many of the pieces and are grateful for all of your hard work and efforts.

We initially had intended for there to be one winner and one reward of 500 CGB. It became evident from all of the high quality submissions and additional edits that it was only fair to raise the stakes in order to compensate for the time and effort involved. Due to these realizations, we have bumped up the total prize pool to 1495 CGB to be awarded as follows:

My personal favorite so far is JoeMattie's. I do have a couple request for you Joe though if possible. Can you square the bullion up and remove the steps?

Yes, the concept is on point for sure! Just hoping to see some variations. No doubt Joe has some serious skills and has a way of translating a concept into an image like only an exceptional artist can!

I definitely think a distinct "logo" for CGB is needed in addition to the bullion bar with the CGB/CryptogenicBullion text. Something clean and simple that identifies CGB without the necessity for the text. A unique identifier sort of like how the bullion bar from the example has the logo below; or how bitcoin is identified by the BTC.

Maybe Joe's image remains the same on the right side but the left is leveled out and a logo is designed for that area...

Nice work, but I think you are on a different track my friend. Looking for more of a realistic bullion look/shape with CGB on it. Hopefully someone can come up with a symbol logo as well for one side of the bar. I was just throwing the snowflake out there as an idea of a potential direction. Would need customization though...

Nice start for sure. Think a little more 3 dimensional though and see what you can come up with to replace the hammer logo with something unique to CGB. Maybe some variation of a snowflake idea or other branding logo you can come up with. Remember the themes of cryogenics, affluence, stability...

I think your first ones were more in the correct direction shape wise.

In regard to your choice of shape:

I have done a few coin designs now and I think I know what I'm talking about, but could be wrong...

The bullion bar shape is not going to translate well into an icon. Look at the coin wallets you have on your desktop, they are all shaped like a coin, in a circle. When the bullion bar design is shrunk down you are going to loose a lot of detail, which is why the coin/circle shape works better as you have more room to work with.

I dunno, it's up to you.

The current logo is more of a square shape and translates very well imo so I think a bar shape will as well. Also, this will be used for the website and future advertising billboards, etc...

You are very impressive my friend! Suggestion: try creating a separate section on the left side of the bullion for the flake logo. Similar to how they have in the image/link below.

Also, please feel free to get creative with the flake idea. I was just throwing that out there as a directional queue, but defintely want you artistst to take some creative license. The other ideas I had for the logo, instead of the flake, are an X made out of thumb drives or something that captures the idea/concept of "cold storage"... Ideally would like a brand that is recognizable as "CGB". I think the bullion bar, CGB and Crytpogenic Bullion text are spot on! Just need the branding logo...

No we are talking!!! That is the idea my friend! I love it! Just a couple tiny changes please, sorry. Can you please do it in solid platinum? I think for the website colors, we will not be able to use the gold unfortunately. The other thing is I would like to see also how the logo looks when it is a little smaller and also a variaton with it rotated 45 degrees to appear as an X.

USB snowflake!  I don't know how exactly that pertains to CGB, BUT I like it.  Actually, now that I think about it, it does relate to the whole ice/cryogenic/cold storage theme Elambert is trying to go for.

My suggestion, make it hexagonal, with 6 longer stems and 6 shorther one.  Like so,

I would like to know more about how this is plagiarism.

1. Use of symbols are used everyday for example the letter M in a logo.
2. Every logo has some form of symbol are they copying as well.
3. This is not a USB logo but a symbol that is widely used and recognised.

I really liked your first image of this, nearly perfect. But thought you should drop the 3d grey part on the bottom and left and make the whole horizontal. You did that in your last image where you cleaned up the 3d part (it was too solid grey). But then the logo and the letters got changed. I would suggest to use the first letters/logo and make the borders similar to this one, ofc with the right colors that will fit the first.



So this whole design on the top looks perfect to me, the colors and shiny letters... Just not the gray bottom and left.

I would really love to see you do a hybrid of your two designs. Call the 1st one above (Image A) and the 2nd one (Image B). Personally I like the overall bullion's look better in image B.
Can you position image B with a slight turn clockwise to straighten out the bullion like you did in image a? Also, can you create a variation of image B with the cryptography blocks replaced with the logo you have used in image A?

Very cool! I especially like the logo concept you have on the right! Very creative... Anyway to do that logo using the letters CGB? I know the straight line backbone from the letter B may not fit in well there, but curious to see what you can come up with... Also, I like you choice of lettering too. Maybe center both lines. Also, see if you can make the bullion 3D and try to stick more with the platinum and cold colors (icy blue to purple).

I need to post this because this is getting overlooked.

Images from cryptasm & JoeMattie while they look very nice they have rendered backgrounds with shadowing...  they can not be used on a website or client without!

1.  no shadows that fall outside the logo and not on the background

2. no shadows at all

3. no shadows and a completely uniform background with or a fixed size website.  Likewise with the client the backgound color must be 100% the same.

or

if the shadows must remain the the website needs to be completely in kilter and can NOT be a fluid website. For example the website must be for 600 x 800 monitors and anyone with a bigger screen will have to put up with a smaller site.

 or
The people with the website are happy the the images will not blend with the site.


There is a reason why no websites use these types of images as a Logo.   Sure rendered images look great as a peice of artwork.  But no web developer ever uses them for the reasons i have pointed out.    

As the rules have now changed, the people will vote for the best looking image without taking into account that the can not be used effectively as a logo.

The fonts name is Wipeout.  I think it looks better enlarged like the image below.  That being said each image is layered so anything can be changed quite easily or elements added/removed if requested.  :)

Incorrect

I render and composite everything in layers.  It is trivial to replace the ground/groundshadows with an alpha channel, masking it out completely.

sorry but your drop shadows are outside of the border.

It's not trivial unless you want a fixed size background outside of the picture.

Can you render it without any background?

It's quite trivial.

I render everything without a background by default.  Everything is on it's own layer: global illumination, anisotropy, incandescence, specular highlights, per-object or per-polygon masks, etc...

That being said, I don't think I'm going to be making any more submissions at the moment.  I've spent probably 5 hours on this already, and I usually bill my clients out for cad / compositing work at $125 an hour :P

Its a competition not make a logo how we exactly want it. Pick a winner, you keep changing the rules, pick a design from the many talented artists you have here and pay them to redesign it how you like.

It's actually just Century Gothic -- not that exciting...but an underrated font in my opinion.

Hey all! You are all absolutely right and I apologize for the way this contest has evolved. I for one anticipated this being an easier process which it unfortunately has not been. Wait, so are you looking for a CGB website logo or a design of the actual cgb cryptocurrency?

We are looking for a branding logo as well as an icon. Ideally the two would be combined, i.e. a bullion bar which has a stamped branding logo for CGB and possibly also the CGB text.

Appreciate it. I've always enjoyed art...but my career path led to almost exclusively development/programming work and I miss the design/creative aspects of things from when I was younger. Every once in a while I'm just burned out on writing code and it's refreshing to jump in on projects like this -- makes me feel like less of a robot!

Have been interested in Bitcoin and new crypto coins for about a year also have been reading these forums for a while now. Never needed or wanted to post until came across this thread.  Myself, well I am currently studying design and have enjoyed watching this thread develop.  From my experience which I am willing to admit is limited, I can see 3 designers posting here that have potential, however they are all missing something. 

The designers shall not be named. Sure anyone who has followed this thread with interest will be able to guess the forum member that is being discussed based on the statements below.

Designer 1. -  Has a very good grasp of logo design, shows good initiative and has the most usable logos, but is missing the killer design.

Designer 2. - Has very good artistic talent and spacial design skills, but can not in any way design a logo.

Designer 3. - Has skills to produce amazing looking photos but it remains to be seen it these designs are punchy enough to be used as a logo.


Most memorable logos are often two tone and can be noticed with just parts of design visible.  Coke Pepsi Heinz Intel.  Simple iconic images.  The blue logo looks good but if Nintendo catch hold of this thread :O

I assure you that the Nintendo Gamecube logo, which was designed in 1999, wasn't fresh on my mind. I would imagine it would be difficult to be 100% original with zero similarities to any other logo in the history of mankind -- there are literally billions of logos out there...and if the closest thing to mine is from a 12-year-old video game system I'd say that's borderline shocking.

I was unaware of the "standard 7 hexagon" but I urge you to make a submission if you have something to contribute. My only goal was to loosely stick with the "snowflake" concept but put a "cryptogenic" spin on it (or at least my interpretation of such.) What primarily motivated me to submit some logos was the lack of true logos in the thread -- I wanted to make sure the full spectrum was available. I'm guessing this will be a situation where there will be multiple winners.

It's odd that you chose to single me out here for no apparent reason...but the most disturbing thing about your post is that the Gamecube logo is fresh on your mind -- I don't think anybody has even thought about Gamecube since 2002! Believe it or not, Nintendo doesn't own the cube shape (nor do they own the rights to the letter "G" even if that isn't applicable here)...and the admittedly similar-in-concept cube is only part of the logo. You may have a semester of basic design concepts under your belt...but perhaps you should consider some business law courses before you run around spreading nonsense.

Also, if you still have time to change majors, I highly recommend it. I know piles and piles of talented people with design degrees that are unemployed -- the market is saturated now. The problem is everybody comes out with the same basic knowledge that doesn't really do them any good (such as what you've posted here) and, typically, a mountain of debt to go with it. If you're doing it as a hobby that's fine...but if you're hoping to make a career out of it I'd suggest a different path (for example, computer science: the demand for computer programmers will continue to grow steadily for the foreseeable future.)

I'm sure everyone gets this, its logo 101  Most 'brands' use two-tone.  Most brands have a creative thought process through it and are paid for their work.  Most come with a book on the concept behind it.  However this isn't for IBM or Ford, it's for a type of crypto.  I think you are being a bit harsh on what to expect would be submitted.

Besides this is being done for free.  Yes there is a reward, but only a few will take some away.  I'm happy people contributed like they have, its great for the community.  The logo from bholzer looks nothing like the nintendo logo and its a bit harsh calling out like that.

 If you're a design major or whatever you should know that a lot of big companies use the font Helvetica in their designs.  My point is that there are similarities in logos all the time.  Please submit something yourself if you are going to be so critical without constructive arguments.

I've got to say, respect to a lot of people in this thread. There's some great designs - some of them are more art than logo, but very impressive.

Yes, unfortunately. It was a very difficult decision and we could have literally gone with any of the 13 artists and emerged with an exceptional logo. However, art is subjective and we had to pick a direction and go with it. You all did great and I will be giving CGB to everyone who participated based off of the level of participation. Thank you!

Art is definitely subjective - I was a judge for a city-wide art fair a few years back and it was a nightmare! Sometimes it's comparing apples and oranges even within the same medium. I'm just glad I didn't spend too much time making logos (I had a ton of designs sketched out) -- there are several people in here that have invested a lot of time, I'm sure. The 3D metal cigarette pack rendering, for example, had to take a pretty serious chunk of time if it was made from scratch for this contest.

Off topic, but I wrote an article about CGB on devtome.  I was just wondering if one of the devs could check and help me fill in the missing info.

don't get me wrong elambert's my friend, but there were 50 other logos i would have used instead of the one he picked. cryptasm's logo is the one in the upper lefthand corenr of the "bar/cigarrette pack" whatever the hell it is

Cryptasm's logo with the crop circle design on the right is where the CB branding logo idea came from. Per our request he edited this image until it made the letters CB.

Not liking the selection per your preference is your right, but please do not be disrespectful to the artists who worked very hard on these. Uncalled for.

I didn't think the design choose was the best of the ones you submitted. But i hope it has the desired effect.  The logo itself does blend well, but does not shout out at me.  Cryptasm's other logos were better.

I hope that the logo becomes a well known one in the future!

Guys, it was announced from the beginning what we were looking for.  We wanted a play on bullion bar.  What Joe Mattie provided was what we thought as a cool combination of cryptography and bullion.  And Cryptasm's logo had the simplicity of bitcoin or a litecoin symbol and yet also possessed modernity.  We combined them and that's our winner.  But in my mind, Cryptasm's logo is THE logo of Cryptogenic Bullion.  Although the bullion bar is an image we'll use a lot in our marketing campaign...

whilst the logo highlights the artists technical prowess, it is my opinion that it does so at the expense of the aesthetic of the design. the canvas seems cramped with details, so it begs the question to me, will it scale?

With these parameters in mind, i felt that cryptasm's piece was the better choice. its subtle, refined, and unique. exactly what you want out of a logo

I actually really like that logo. It seems a bit cheap nothing of the sort was posted in the thread, but I guess they selected their favorite as a base (which one?) and then improved upon it. I just feel like we should have had more visibility on the process.

The 3D cigarette pack bullion rendering was the best bullion option in here and is of high quality. Clearly, the thread stated they were looking for a bullion image...so they had to select one. 3D isn't my preference (unless it's in a video game) but this is what they were looking for and Joe delivered. Clearly a lot of effort was put into this by all.

The logo itself that they chose is pretty clean and simple, really. The full graphic is a bit rowdy, but that isn't the "logo" -- just a graphic they intend to use for promotional purposes.
