Don't invest quite yet and get more comfortable with the market and concepts that exist within the crypto community before you go off and start trying to invest everywhere. I can't tell you what to do with your money so take my comments with a grain of salt but I recommend that you don't try to make money by just dumping it in and hoping it sticks.

Look at the markets in your area, look at the market right now and identify the trends, feel confident with your investment. There's a lot more information available right now compared to when I started with Bitcoin. Google is your friend and I almost guarantee any questions you have will have been asked and answered before.

I understand this part, however I meant I understand the market to an extent. I just wanted to ask around this forum to see people's opinions on which market they think may flourish relative to another.

For instance, if I invested 25% of it into eth (which is relatively high rn but also not stopping) would that be worth it or rather should I just forget eth at this moment and rather invest that 25% into something like btc which is somewhat decreasing.

ETH is the better deal and it's price does not spike as much as BTC plus they offer a service to
other alt coins and that makes the money from gas

Ripple i think is the safe long term bet because they will ride out government regulations much
better than anyone else and no one can fork ripple can they now !

Segwit2x goes live today so I wonder how well that will do

That is true there are a majority of coins where the volume doesn't make sense . But if you know what you are doing you can have some big gains in low marketcap altcoin.

If I personally I prefer to invest in ETH, because the price is still relatively cheap compared to bitcoin, and we still can get multiple benefits, it's just my advice.

if you want to hear my suggestion try to buy bitcoin just because now the bitcoin the price again down, we know that bitcoin fee is big, but fast in transacting if ethereum now price again high so, better bitcoin just your money in use

in the meantime, I do not advise you. if you look at prices and growth, of course BTC better to invest, but the price is too expensive. and ETH is good, but I see that ETH can still be controlled by bitcoin, and not yet have a good plan. so the price can not be stable.
but today, maybe ETH is easier and cheaper to be an investment.

I would like to suggest you buying Ethereum for the future purpose, day by day the importance of ETH is increasing and the price also getting higher and higher. In the meantime, you can buy a couple of ETH that will bring you to a large amount of profit.
I think ETH could be a safe and sound investment for the future purpose, besides Bitcoin, ETH also a great coin for the blockchain system.

That's what worries me rn, I believe ETH is greatly affected by the price of BTC. Currently ETH is increasing while BTC is declining, but a lot of people/threads say they normally correlate to an extent. Would that mean ETH would decrease within the next few weeks or days?

ETH or BTC I think is the same.
ETH is unstable and the price depends on BTC, but ETH is cheap, so I think ETH is better. ETH is waiting for a chance from BTC. if BTC rises, then ETH will also rise, and you will benefit.

Bitcoin or ETH, I think both of them can provide something promising in the future.
invest in both .. but my suggestion at this time ETH will be better than bitcoin to invest .. because ETH currently very incentive in doing development.

I suggest you to go all in with Ether, the future is Ether, BTC is being manipulated since a long time from now and I don't see success on it for small investments.

I would suggest studying the market at first, since both cryptocurrency is very volatile. While at it, you can go to bittrex or binance and study the markets. However if you opt to just HODL and wait for the increase in value, you have to read the trend whether it is going down or going up. Buy low, sell high.

Read the white paper on both coins and pick which one you feel comfortable with.  For example if you feel very strongly about application software ethereum is probably a better choice but if your more concerned about big banks and rich folks taking advantage of the poor then maybe bitcoin is a better choice for you.

And what is there to say bitcoin is now a little cooled in the price and does not show the level that before, but for the ETH I would have taken thoroughly. So as for me it is necessary to look to the future and not to live in the past.

I would not suggest that. Bitcoin is forever the king of crypto whatever its price is. Ethereum is also a projec that is going to be big future too but for traders this may not be the time period for a good investment. Currently ether price is high because of a upcoming Hard Fork. I would suggest people to sell ether and take advantage of this price pump than wait it out.

As for portfolios Bitcoin should be 60% or more.

Currently, there's no altcoin capable of outdoing bitcoin, not even ethereum which seems to be rising so fast in recent times and so i will always recommend bitcoin ahead of ethereum or any other altcoin out there in  this present time.

there is always a level of risk involved when investing in cryptocurrencies. you should first try to assess that risk and accept it before trying to make any investment.

for bitcoin i'd say this risk is small even though currently there is not much movement in the price. bitcoin will always remain the biggest cryptocurrency because it is constantly improving and with all the additions it will be very far ahead of all the other altcoins. and with the adoption it has, it will grow much bigger.

altcoins including ethereum are so much riskier because of a lot of reasons. such as problems they are facing including scaling. and the thing about altcoins is that there are a lot of them. the competition is among those and since most of them such as ETH has big premines and lots of manipulations it makes their market a lot less trusted even if it is more profitable.

For short term, just put that money on Ethereum until it reaches $1500 or $2000 at least, and for long term, bitcoin, of course. But they both are going to give you nice profits during this year, so do not be afraid of putting money in there

This year EThereum will try to chase the bitcoin, ETH are a lot of positive signals to be able to grow strongly this year. Bitcoin will continue to increase but it will not be as good as in 2017, despite the fact that the crypto market is very good, which is because the bitcoin is too valuable and that makes bitcoin very difficult to boost up like last year.

Yes that's true, ethereum this year was very good in price increasing maybe this is you're time to grab in bitcoin while bitcoin now dump. I can't push you where you going to invest between that two cryptocurrency, but if you let me to decide which better to invest i must prefer in bitcoin. This is a opportunity to invest bitcoin, there's many predictions on expert in bitcoin price movement it will rising back after 6 months from. So, this is the right time to invest your 500$ let say 70% of btc and 30% of eth.

I personally think $500 is not gonna give big amount of profits if you invest it on bitcoin so it is better to go with ethereum.Ethereum also has good future so it will give decent amount of profits if you can hold it for longer term and also there is a fork coming up for ethereum so you will receive free coin also if you invest it on ethereum.
If you want to make good profits in short term then better to choose some other altcoins rather than BTC and ETH.

You can replace your money into investment or trading, my question is which one you want? choose btc if you want to invest and trade for eth. But I need to say this, you should wait until February for invest ( btc ) but you can try trade with eth at this moment. The reason is, price action is not good for both of them ( dump ), so, you need wise strategy with your money. Good luck with you.

Obviously, Etherum attracts investors with independent price movements, but it remains vulnerable to Bitcoin's sudden price increases. For this reason I am completely recommendable; you will be buying Bitcoin and Etherum in equal amounts.

Both are good for long term trading so it's up to you what will you choose. Both can give you decent profit even just by holding it. But since it's only $500 you won't feel profit that much unless their price will really pumped hard.

Since you are new I can't suggest you to proceed on other altcoins since it's more risky but the reward is decent if you play it right. I suggest to just build experienced first by doing experimental trades. Yes you need to risks a bit of money to get start. While holding you can practice how to trade on other coin that only requires small amount ($100 is enough). This requires analyzation so you really need to spend time learning.

If you are not comfortable taking a course to advance level at the moment, then just buy either BTC or ETH and hold.

I would say to invest your money only in one basket is a bad idea unless you have true beliefs of that coin or the project.

If it was a month ago I would have told you to buy Ethereum, but currently ethereum is counted as high, but in crypto the sky is the limit so you can never know when it can hit the ATH, but I know another coin you maybe should look into currently I'm into privacy coins like xvg , monero and stuff like that
but best of them all would be deeponion currently it's on a dip whales holding it back down so they can buy more , and each mid of the week it pumps up look at the last 7 days chart you will get what I mean, in this coin you can even join their airdrop they have another 14 drops , check it out, I'm out.

Long term Ether for sure. It is easy to build on has thousands of tokens, more than a few in the top 20. You can do so much with it and it will only keep getting better with the forks. There is no set amount but as the network gets more useful the use will increase to compensate for that.

If you want a choice between btc and ether , then i will suggest btc as of today for 2-3 month hold .
bcoz btc is too much stable from 1 month , so it may start rising anytime .
ethereum already up 70-80% in last 15 days . so it will be stable below 1500$ .

for long term hold - 1-2 years then buy ethereum , bcoz % growth of ether will be more than btc .

Ethereum, of course, but $500 is almost nothing in here, maybe with ethereum you can double it in a short time than if you invest in bitcoin.

Everything has a risk in here, so not give you fake hopes because everybody knows that there are a lot of cases in where a lot of people lost a lot of money because of investing in things that they did not even understood at all..

In my opinion ETH is better one because the price is cheaper than BTC and the price seem trend up in the long term, but to multiple that amount of money in my opinion 50% of it use to buy cheap coin that just listed in the market because now many new coin promising high return and the price still cheap, like UTRUST, BITDEGREE, APPCOIN, BITCLAVE.

Since bitcoin and ethereum are starting to fall down its better to hold it tight for the meantime, then sell it when the price of this coins are already recovered. For now its better to invest in this coins, because I was sure that you are earn high amount of income in future.

I was not believe that this crypto currencies were not going into deep so too much because until now it was functioning as good coin.

Both are excellent coins and also have high price and large number of users also.
Both have a quality of volatility property.
Both need knowledge enough to work with them.
According to me for long term trading ethereum is best while for short term trading BTC is best.

Bitcoin is currently at a considerably low price and is at it's lowest for the past 7 weeks , which might allow people to put some money in a bit of coins even tho it might not get you much (0,04503 or something near to that ) but if you succeed to hold the funds and consider that as a long time investment it might be fruitful for you , buying Eth will get you more in term of coins but it's much more risky especially with the hyping that is being done to Eth at the moment .
Even if you buy one of both cryptos and the price falls it will be a loss on paper , the real loss is when you sell for less than what you bought but if you hold your funds long enough it will never be a loss .

For short term, just put that money on Ethereum until it reaches $1500 or $2000 at least, and for long term, bitcoin, of course. But they both are going to give you nice profits during this year, so do not be afraid of putting money in there

Both can be long term investment , but bitcoin is way better for it's ability to scale easier than Eth since the max supply isn't the same (Bitcoin 21M vs Eth infinite ) which makes bitcoin a much "rarer" coin thus making people pick it over Eth .

Yeah.. Just put all that money on Bitcoin.

If you want to make easy money in just a few months or weeks, just invest in ethereum, because it has more room to keep growing during the next few weeks (while bitcoin, is matter of months)

And if you want to invest and make x2 x3 of your money, just invest in risky altcoins, that is the way out.

Both are excellent coins and also have high price and large number of users also.
Having a high price or a huge user-base has nothing to do with with trading recommendation. The market cap and the volume traded is more important than this. You can see the shillbase of scams like bitconnect and all - its bigger then what ethereum and ripple has.

Any trade-able asset has volatility. Tell me one example which does not? And also every asset needs prior research before investing/trading it.

Its the opposite. Bitcoin is for long term HODL while ethereum is for short-mid term.
