Title: 2GH NinjaStick USB Miner powered by Bitfury
Post by: MWNinja on August 17, 2013, 11:34:01 PM
MineNinja is pleased to announce our newest product, the NinjaStick USB Bitcoin mining stick powered by the Bitfury 5GH ASIC.  It's done right with adjustable voltage and a temp sensor - actual performance is still TBD ~ but we anticipate at least 2GH. These will be available only on a wholesale basis, MOQ 100 sticks - orders will open once the prototype is hashing and evidence posted to youtube.

https://i.imgur.com/Q76h8Qol.png

Estimated Pricing:
September production - estimated price 2BTC per stick
October production (using October deliver Bitfury chips) - estimated 1BTC per stick

Final pricing is still TBD, and depends on factors like volume.  The more interest, the cheaper we can get them made.

I'm also looking for the "right" partner/investor to help with the project. It's not just about money, rather what you can bring to the table to help facilitate growth.

US.  It'll have to be after more details are announced.  It'll probably be for the October date and depends on the price and difficulty.  Right now Avalon K16s are 4.5 GH/s stock @ around $260 (hopefully delivered by September).  2BTC = around $230 for 2 GH/s so I'm not sure it'd be worth it for the September sticks.

Potentially interested in adding the product to the BTC Guild ASIC store, which would provide shipping worldwide.  Mostly depends on volume, wholesale pricing, and what competing products come out by the time these would be available in bulk.

0.5BTC/Gh/s in October?

Might be a fun toy ~1btc, but anyone paying 100BTC would be taking a huge risk in their ability to resell them for a profit, and they certainly wouldn't be very worthwhile to use in a big mining op.

If it hashes and looks good, I am in for one as a collectible. I agree that the price will turn off most profit oriented people. Perhaps you can credit first buyers with coupons or stocks.

Again, a company making a mistake on an unsellable product.

The USB stick market is going to need to be profitable to be sellable. Right now these are put in a dollar and get back 25 cents.

It costs more than 0.15 BTC to buy just the chip not including postage, fab etc.

Then I'd say the chip is way too expensive, it has had any markup priced out of it already, just my two satoshis.

At 2BTC that's $113 per GH/s which is a total joke.

Even 1BTC you would be lucky to get any ROI by the time it ships. It needs to sell for less than 1BTC if it can't then don't start the project.

And this is the first signs of what will happen to NON-USB ASIC's in October or November 2013.

Companies will figure out that their initial designs can't easily overcome pricing restrictions. So they will have to redesign Gen2.1 to be more massively parallel to keep outrunning the difficulty by any meaningful timeframe.

(You heard it here first! Expect many companies to pre-plan, adapt to changing market conditions, or utterly fail and take your money/BTC with them. Spend wisely.)

The block erupters will be at .12 BTC is the next few weeks. This new device should be around .45 @ least 2gh/s to be worthwhile.

We're doing everything we can to get the price down as low as possible, but please have reasonable expectations as we can't sell them for less than the chips cost, plus theres a bunch of other parts, board, heatsink, and NRE costs that we have to recover.  These small units aren't going to have the world's best ROI, you can only get that promise when you buy $5k worth of vaporware.  Real things in hand cost more than powerpoint slides and renderings.

Anyhow we are trying to keep a sub $100 price point to give entry level miners some meaningful hashrate.

Hmm, I don't like your comment very much. ASICMINER USB sticks, a real product from a real competitor, is existing competition to your vaporware. Furthermore, and I can't believe this is not obvious, your production costs do not matter to the buyer and should not factor into their expectations.

At present asicminer USB sticks are 0.9BTC+ per GH.  At 0.5 this is a better deal.

However only time will tell whether roi is possible...

Right, if you have both options right now.  However, I guarantee that ASICMiner USB Erupters will drop to BTC.1 or less by October, especially in the secondary market.

They haven't fucked anyone over. they gave you a price and you paid it. They are the ONLY ones who have been relyable for delivery. They can't save you from your buying practices. When the Playstation 3 first came out how much was it? How many price decreases has their been? You want it first you pay a premium. If only things were that simple.
You have to buy sample chips, design your own board & firmware around the chip. Either that or pay someone else a licensing feeThen you may have to pay someone else to de-bug your code. Then you have to pay through the nose for small quantities of components, PCB's and search around for an SMT factorywho are willing to run your small amount    ;)

But ASICMINER USB sticks are 335MH/s which in today's environment is not a 'meaningful hashrate'.  Sure, you can build a farm of them (and I have nothing against them - I have four of them mining myself) but it's not direct competition.

Are there any other USB sticks that offer multi-GH/s hashrates?

Price needs to be:

Deliver by end of |price per unit (BTC)
Sept0.50
Oct0.35
Nov0.25
Dec0.2

This is price before shipping, rounded up to the nearest 0.05th of a BTC and based on my current 6-month profitability projections. The more profit-oriented will order larger amounts, while those ordering a single unit will be happy with the chance to get their money back in the following 10-12 months after delivery charges are taken into account.

I like the USB port being staggered to one side because it will play nicely with half the USB ports, depending on your luck. Better than putting it in the middle and blocking both ports or blocking one port 100% of the time.. It also will play nicely with most USB hubs.

I like the idea and the initiative but if you cannot lower the prices to an acceptable level by lowering your costs, then obviously it may not turn out to be a good business for you.

The main cost driver is Bitfury and their selling practices/pricing.  I'm expecting a price-war soon enough on the ASICs, and we are doing everything we can do shrink our costs on the BOM.  Megabigpower is currently selling 1 chip @ 1BTC.  Cost per GH on low density devices will soon hit a floor anyhow, even friedcat has to pay his vendors and all. Worst case I make a few hundred of them for me and my friends, my motivation is for personal fun and education, as well as making a contribution to the community. As always we will keep things open and transparent.

If they are USB 3 then you could have potential issues with the raspberry pi

yes, that's why I'm asking. I would imagine them to be usb 3.0 for more power (vs. usb 2.0).

The bitfury chip does not require the added power that USB 3 would give

nice, I was wondering (and at the time, being extremely lazy and didn't feel like doing research, was too damn early for me).

Eagerly awaiting more concrete pricing so I can get a group buy started.  You still offering to make these available to us lowly consumers? :)

I'd considered buying a large number of block erupters to basically give away— I think everyone that wants to try out mining should be able to... but the poor power efficiency compared to what was coming made me think twice: doesn't make sense to give away a bunch of devices which wouldn't produce much bitcoin but would also be operating at a loss in just a few months.  A bitfury based device would be a lot more attractive, but with 1BTC chips, its sadly too far outside of the range that would be interesting as a giveaway. :(

Throw em at me!  I can't and won't promise a delivery date nor will I offer refunds! Honestly I will ship them in two months or more when I can buy them much cheaper and have mined the piss out of em for you!  Oh and just cause I'm a nice guy I will call you a cocksucker and a monumental asshole for asking me any questions (I learnded my leet bizness model from BFL!)  ::)

Fake....   If you were really doing BFL's business model, you would have promised to deliver them in two weeks (tm).

Yeah.........& make a photoshopped image depicting a virtual product..........& then produce a different release date every month for it  :D

Oh.............& you need chickens..........lots of chickens  ;D

Seriously though, powered USB hubs with powersupplies like this one should work  ;)

Just need to know,5 volt or 12 volt.

And just like that the offer gets pulled.  The bitfury chip situation right now doesn't make any sense.  Hopefully they figure out something that is more equitable and supportive of the DIY community.

These were selling for less than 1BTC, 2BTC for a Bitfury thumb is a ripoff.

Bitfury chips were selling for $20ea in reels of 3,000, so if you charge 2BTC what's the other $180+ for?

^^^

The drillbit thumbs are selling for $99 for October delivery and it will likely be the latter half of the month.
bitfury chips are $60K per reel of 3000 for October delivery.
If you bought them in July/August they were priced at $130
If you want them now they are $108

cheers,

Estimated Pricing:
September production - estimated price 2BTC per stick
October production (using October deliver Bitfury chips) - estimated 1BTC per stick

Final pricing is still TBD, and depends on factors like volume.  The more interest, the cheaper we can get them made.

Emphasis mine

Like wise, I also read these can only be used with an rpi and chainminer? I was really hoping to buy roughly 5 or 6 of these and hook them up to my rpi running minepeon with cgminer.

EDIT: I was wrong, its a different design. My mistake!

If you notice, this stick uses the same design as the BF1 USB sticks announced today. The BPM people also comment through this thread. So if you are curious about the update, go check https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=292433.0. Hopefully they will price it properly!

We're busy prototyping and doing software integration work, and will be doing a test run of 100 units around the end of the month to prove out our manufacturing partner.  Volume production is slated to start in October once the next batch of Bitfury chips becomes available.  We're still waiting on updated pricing from Bitfury to determine how big that first volume run will be.

Could we have some photos of the prototyping work? You sortof imply that it is physical, may we see the physical work? You could obviously censor out certain "competetive" features
