Title: [ANN] JimCoin [JIM] A currency for Jims, by Jims.
Post by: JimCEO on January 19, 2018, 10:26:49 PM
JimCoin

JimCoin alone moves the wheels of history.  Have you ever asked yourselves in an hour of meditation - which everyone finds during the day - how long we have been striving for greatness? Not only the years we've been at war - the war of work - but from the moment as a child when we realize the world could be conquered. It has been a lifetime struggle, a never-ending fight I say to you, and you will understand that it is a privilege to fight. Cryptocurrency enthusiests of the internet, I ask you once more rise and be worthy of this historical hour.  No revolution is worth anything unless it can defend itself. Some people will tell you crypto is a bad word. They'll conjure up images of black market drug deals, and ransomware charlatans. This is our duty to change their perception. I say, cryptomen and women of the world... unite. We must never acquiesce, for it is together... TOGETHER THAT WE PREVAIL.

you have to have to daemon (jimcoind) running before you can run the wallet so it has something to connect to, also the windows installer has been updated to include Qt5Network.dll.  Uninstall from control panel and use the new installer from the ANN post to re-install.

Use the CLI wallet. It is working fine for me.

it would be fairer if all the wallets provided worked immediately from launch. Miners shouldn't have to waste time trying to find out which works by trial and error.

I can't believe all you Jims are mining this with so much hash power to be honest.  I mean, I have high hopes and plans for this coin but look at ya'll go.  I've got another Jim helping out with some of the wallet issues and I need to work on network hashrate being reported incorrectly.  Will update when I have a chance.

This should absolutely not be happening.  What are you doing to restart the wallet? The link is to an installer which should only be run once.  If you want to manually back up your wallet copy the jimcoinwallet.wallet file from your appdata/roaming/jimcoin folder if on windows.

First step for me is getting all OS versions of wallets and troubleshooting some of the problems people have mentioned they've had with what I've already released.  Next is laying out a solid roadmap.  By this upcoming week we should have a discord server going and a few more Jims helping me out.  I will keep this thread posted on progress.

Chain is moving again.

I know all you Jims would love to see constant improvements and hourly dev updates from me but the sad truth is that this Jim isn't making any money to work on JimCoin and as such I have to work a 40hr/week conventional job.  I've been working whenever I can on progressing JimCoin but I have limited time and am doing what I can with it.  Thanks for your patience Jims.

We appreciate your honesty. We see you have a cool concept and fun project, and just want to see it be successful. Have you looked into expanding the team? Volunteers would help lower costs and provide additional support while you're working.

yes, we all will help this proj, this jim.

I believe we have a split in the chain.  Block explorer is ahead of all wallets I've tested and getting failure to check ring signatures on the main daemon.  Please close wallets and delete blockindexes.dat and blocks.dat files then re-open and see if you are able to re-sync up to the height shown on be.jimcoin.net

It was the pool on its own fork, re-syncing its chain then we should be up and running again.  No need to delete your blockchain.

If your wallet is showing a height HIGHER than the block explorer (currently 3210) please stop mining and delete your blockchain, then re-sync.  Thank you.

The updated link on the ANN post for windows installer includes the Qt5Network.dll file and installs it in the proper directory.  You can try saving you jimcoinwallet.wallet file (if you have any jimcoin to save) then uninstall through control panel uninstall programs and use the updated installer.  Are you by chance on a 32 bit machine?

Hey Jim, I'm right here.  Working on getting a pre-compiled OSX wallet as well as ironing out a few bugs in the pool when I have time.  I have linked an OSX wallet on the getting started page of jimcoin.net if anyone would like to test it for me and let me know what errors you have that would be great.

As far as seeing the future you're shit outta luck on that front unless you have a wicked good crystal ball.  You can change the future by helping out if you'd like though.  There's a lot that community members can do like promotion, applying for/voting for listing on exchanges, etc.

There will be a road map fairly soon as well.

As of right now its simply a currency for Jims, by Jims.  Exchange listing is planned once the network is stabilized as many exchanges are notorious for having zero support for wallet sync issues/ wallet updates once the initial listing happens.  I have many ideas for the future that need to be discussed in detail with the founding Jims and most details will be seen on the roadmap.  I am holding off divulging all the information until we are closer to implementation so my ideas don't get swooped up and stolen although I'm sure it will be copied seeing as this is an open source project.  Hoping to have a first mover's advantage at least.

Just began to mine this coin today. Is there a time plan to list on any exchange? As I haven't seen many information on the official website yet.

Also can I get into if I'm not Jim?

114 Jim's now mining. We have doubled our Jim's on the mining tools since a few days ago.

The pool is still paying out well, the rewards for mining are still there for a desktop PC too.

I appreciate that Jim isn't the most serious coin in the world, however I reckon it's worth a few hours of mining a day at least.

Community seems cool. Dev seems like a good Jim, and the coin isn't getting smashed by Nicehash miners, so the little guys can get some while it's still kind of new.

Jim,

Opened the wallet today and it just appears as blank - no figures, nothing. Possibly it got corrupted, any way of running a rescan/repair on it? Tried on the command line and that option doesn't exist (Windows)

Thanks! (Got about 7k JIMS in there)

It looks like there might be a split in the chain.  If your wallet is not syncing please make sure you save your jimcoinwallet.wallet file somewhere safe and delete your jimcoin folder in the windows appdata folder for windows, and if on linux delete the .JimCoin folder that should be located as your users root directory.  Once deleted open your wallet again and let it sync from scratch.  WARNING: if you delete your wallet file, your Jims will be gone forever so back it up!

OK so at this point we have 2 chains going, if you have a block height higher than the block explorer be.jimcoin.net you need to delete your blockchain and sync from scratch.  On windows close your wallet and search %appdata% in your search bar and delete blockindexes.dat and blocks.dat from the JimCoin folder then open wallet again.  On linux, close your wallet and navigate to the .JimCoin folder in your root directory and delete blockchainindices.dat  blockscache.dat blockindexes.dat       and blocks.dat then re-start wallet.  Once done we should all be on the same chain matching the block explorer.

Stats on the pool are a little messed up right now and a lot of orphaned blocks need to be re-mined since the pool was mining on the wrong fork for a while.  As long as your wallet syncs to the same block height the block explorer you are on the right chain.

Alright Jims,

I think we need to take the pool offline for a while and get some solo mining going.  I thought it would be really nice for people to just download a wallet and start getting Jim payouts the click of a button but this is the 4th time having so much hashrate concentrated in on one node has caused a fork and its getting more and more difficult to fix as the blockchain grows.  I will do my best to find the time to write some step by step guides for various methods of solo mining to help the new Jims out but for the time being google is your friend.  The PoW is cryptonight so get to searching and i'm sure you will figure it out.  I will bring the pool back up when I have the time/money to set up another one to spread the hashes out, when the network hashrate has grown to the point that it wont dominate the network or when someone else can get a functional pool up to compete with it.  Apologies to the pool participants but this is whats best for all Jims.  In the meantime I urge every solo mining Jim to re-sync your blockchain so we are all on the same chain moving forward.

edit: I'm working on getting pool payouts to send but this last fork really muddied things up.  Regardless, all mined Jims will get to their rightful owners.
edit2: It will likely take a while for the blockchain to start moving at a normal pace again since the network lost so much hashrate when I turned the pool off.  This is normal and the difficulty will adjust soon enough to match the network hashrate.

-Jim

For solo mining on Windows download the CLI wallet in the announcement post on page 1 and run jimcoind.exe (your wallet must be closed to run the CLI daemon but copy your receiving address first) and once the daemon is synced with the network issue the command,

Code:
start_mining YourReceiveAddress NumberOfCPUThreadsToUse

It should display that the miner has started on each thread and if you want to see your hashrate use
Code:
show_hr

On linux the commands are the same except for starting the daemon which is done with the command ./jimcoind from within the directory that jimcoind is in.

Jim, you must take vitamins and get better.

The Crypto-world needs Project Jim, and you are the leader of this intrepid adventure.

You must lead us to the holy land of prosperity, where all Jims will live in peace, regardless of if our name is Jim.

Get well soon Jim. Return to us reinvigorated and ready!

Together we are Jim!

(PS : Can someone post an idiot's guide to mining from the CLI Wallet?)

How to mine this coin now? Still possible to wallet solo?

Thanks to some helpful Jim's I've been mining solo from the CLI Wallet and Daemon

1. Run the Jimcoind file

2. Once you have sync'ed (might take a little while, the box with the daemon will tell you though) then run the simplewallet file

3. Open your wallet (or make a new one using the instructions) from the simplewallet cmd box.

4. Type start_mining NUMBER OF THREADS where NUMBER OF THREADS is the number of CPU cores you want to dedicate to the mining
 - For example, if you have a quad core without hyper threading, you might want to use 2 cores to mine Jim, so in the Simplewallet box you type start_mining 2

I've been mining with a ryzen 1700 using 6 threads and have found about 20,000 Jim Coins in about 12 hours.
Whenever you find a block, you get ~970 coins, and you will see the balance increase if you type balance in the simple wallet box.
If you want to check if the mining is running, check your task manager in windows to see if your CPU usage has increased
To stop mining, type stop_mining in the simple wallet box, then exit both wallet and daemon by typing exit in both boxes.

Good Luck Fellow Jim!!

Maybe you have opened "Jimcoin GUI Wallet" or "simplewallet" before launch "jimcoind".
I've been mining for a couple of days only launching "jimcoind", without needing of run another Jimcoin proces, that easy.

Close all, open cmd and run "jimcoind", wait for the green notice that says "INFO [xx.xxx.xx.xxx:xxxxx INC] SYNCHRONIZED OK"

Now type  start_mining YourJimcoinWalletAddress -x             (x for number of threads. With my i5 with 6Mb of cache, I use -3)

You are mining now. You can see your hasrate typing show_hr

TOGETHER THAT WE PREVAIL.

when i read this, i am aware of jimcoin being a reasonable and responsible coin.

For anyone wondering about difficulty in regards to pool mining the ideal difficulty allows you to get at the very least 1 share per block so you are rewarded for your mining.  In my opinion you should target your difficulty so that you are consistently submitting multiple shares in a 2 minute period since the target block time is 2 minutes.  If you target your difficulty too high you might not submit any shares during the mining of a block and therefore not be rewarded at all.  On the other hand if you set your difficulty too low you will waste time getting new work.  It is best to find a good medium that allows you to utilize your computational power appropriately.  I have my pool set to adjust difficulty for miners and automatically targets having each miner submit a share every 20 seconds. This should allow roughly 6 shares every block and in my opinion allows miners to be rewarded accurately for their mining.  Hope this helps those wanting to set their difficulty manually.

Hello Jim! (that's plural)

And hello Jim (singular), I am almost a Jim and aspire to one day be a Jim.

I also would like to ask for some guidance on how to enter responsibly into this chain with a bunch of hashing power. Last time I played around on this chain, it split inside a half day, I have a feeling those two events were completely mutually exclusive, but I'd like to tread carefully. [redacted] I've got a couple of xeon servers I'd be willing to add, in the name of learning better how to perform all these tasks competently.

thank you,

Hi Jimceo,Any plan to list on exchange in the near future?

Eventually I will seek out exchanges to list Jim but if the community wants it you are all free to submit listing requests on any exchanges.  Ultimately it is up to an exchange to list a coin but if you require any information or for a dev or core member to provide anything for a listing let me know and I will do what I can to help.

Thanks for the interest and caution Jim,

The best way to throw large amounts of hash without risking splitting the chain is to solo mine so that one pool does not acquire too large a percentage of the total network hashrate.  Let me know if you need help setting this up but there are already posts on how to solo mine if you look through this thread.

Good day,

Jim

Jims,

Lets spread the hashpower out a bit and get some miners on the new pool.  jim.npool.pw is up and running and has a significantly lower fee!  I've tested and it is working very well with regular payouts.  This will reward the Jim who made the pool for the community, help secure the network, and prevent chain splits.

HI JIMS,

Pls move your hash power to the http://jim.npool.pw/   pool.  It's only 0.5% fee!

too much hash in official pool now, this is not good and we dont want the chain split again, pls move move move!

Hi Dev JIM....

what the next for exchanges this Coin  ???
what the hell roadmap  ???

nice, the tech & support algorithm Cryptonight  ;)

hey jim what is this the setting for? a custom mining software? or the default wallets?

Also, official pool is unstuck.

I'm still not having any luck. I stopped receiving mining fees sometime last night on both machines, sometime after discovering a block and getting a large mining fee. Am I mining my own chain?

thx,
jim

custom mining software, for me is minerd (for cpu) and ccminer (for gpu).
so you use: minerd stratum+tcp://jim.npool.pw:10061 -u yourwalletaddress.3000 -p x
or:
ccminer stratum+tcp://jim.npool.pw:10061 -u yourwalletaddress.3000 -p x

I'm learning a lot! Thank you so much for your step by step spoonfeeding.

I've compiled ccminer and connected it to jim.npool.pw. My work is being accepted at ~250H/s

Very exciting. So far, not seeing any mining fees deposited into my wallet.

I've already generated a third one and want to start learning about input consolidation.

Thank you again.

Jim,

If you are still developing this. The windows wallet (windows 10) only allows me to send small qty's of jimcoin (< 300 coins). If I try to send a larger amount the error is "Transaction size to big".

I can send all coins from one wallet to another using a bunch of small transactions.

Jim,

If you are still developing this. The windows wallet (windows 10) only allows me to send small qty's of jimcoin (< 300 coins). If I try to send a larger amount the error is "Transaction size to big".

I can send all coins from one wallet to another using a bunch of small transactions.

The source of this problem is not as simple as it seems.  There is not a "maximum" parameter set in the code that restricts the number of coins that can be sent in one transaction but rather there is a limit on the size of the data that one transaction can consist of (block size).  Whats likely happening here is that your coins have too many inputs and the transaction gets bloated because of it.  A transaction with many transfers being used as input will cause the size of the transaction to go over the block size limit.  So for now try to consolidate your coins manually with smaller transactions. I've found the easiest way to do this is to use simplewallet from the binaries and copy/paste the command to send chunks of coins one at a time. When you send a group of coins that has a bunch of inputs into one destination address any future transfers of those coins will use that one transaction as an input.  In time, this problem will resolve itself.

Hope that helps a bit.

-Jim

Hello Jim,

How are you? last block was received 290 hours ago, please come back and save us...

Fellow Jims

Adversity has fallen across our lands.

The chain has stopped.

But we can move it again.

The Pool is working at http://pool.jimcoin.net/#

I have devoted the considerable resources of a single 1050 GPU to getting the chain moving again.

Even though this mighty card entry level graphics card worth $99 US has an amazing hash rate of 335 Hash per second, I need your help too (or it will take me 15 hours to find a block)

If you want the Jim Coin to rise, I ask you to also devote your hardware to mining on the pool for a short time.

Celeron CPU's, Dual Core Pentiums, Old and Cheap GPU's. I call on you all to mine the JIM COIN on the pool with me.

Then, we will profit (or just waste our time completely, who knows...)
