Title: [ANN] CommunityCoin (CTC) (Currency Name Change)
Post by: CaptChadd on August 24, 2013, 12:46:23 PM
Hi all,

The voting has been completed and I have now released the Windows QT and source code for the name change that the community asked for.

All your old coins are safe, they are just now called Communitycoin (CTC)

http://s12.postimg.org/3rsp3u6t5/Communitycoin.png

Important

Before you run the new CTC client or replace your current Crimecoin client download this current blockchain, complete with conf and then run the client, move this folder into your roaming appdata, overwriting or deleting the current one.

Blockchain Download : https://www.dropbox.com/s/bkswepuou0ctx4s/Communitycoin%20Blockchain.zip

Then if you have had Crimecoin installed before, move that wallet.dat into this new Communitycoin folder, so your coins can move across to the newly named client.

If you do this correctly, the client will run fine and on the same blockchain, if you don't it will flag up an error.

This will also enable users that have never run Crimecoin before be able to use Communitycoin. This is a workaround to keep the Crimecoin blockchain running and all your coins safe.

Communitycoin Windows QT https://www.dropbox.com/s/pa4ytwk8f70eh8j/Communitycoin.zip

Source Code https://github.com/CaptChadd/Communitycoin

Thanks

Community coin is a much better name, whereas the name 'crime-coin' is a tarnished beginning for this coin.

why all the 'reserved' i've never understood that.

Some people like to reserve a spot for something witty they came up with in hindsight, to look smart, thus increasing their e-penis.

Another reason I can think of is a spot on the first page so they can get more attention to an advert or promotion they plan to do later.

Other people have accounts that they use for the sole reason of slandering competing coins. The reserve a spot to put a negative post there later, when they have some frustrations to vent or found some "dirt" they can use.

One thing is for sure, 99% of the time a reserved spot is pure selfishness, if it's not made by the OP himself.

OK, just trying to see if I can keep the old blockchain running with this newly named client, OP updated with my current synced Communitycoin blockchain.

Replace or delete the current Communitycoin folder in your appdata folder.

CaptChadd, Sent you a PM.

Everyone else, On irc.freenode.net, I've established the #communitycoin channel. CaptChadd has been assigned op status as well as myself having it for registering the channel so it wouldn't have the chance of getting snagged by someone else.

Pool server is restarting in about 5 minutes. (pool is already down but i need to restart my desktop.)

EDIT: Pool is back up with a few modifications! The Currency symbol/extension (CTC) is now in place plus i have disabled the problematic Confirm Email functionality until such a time that I can get it to work properly. Checking the pool userDB for any currently locked accounts right now.

Here's the details you need for mining.  :)

communitycoin.conf

rpcuser=user
rpcpassword=password
rpcport=22700
server=1
addnode=212.48.67.126

Cgminer Details : cgminer.exe --scrypt -o localthost:22700 -u user -p password

Block Explorer : http://altcha.in/chain/Crimecoin     -  I assume this will be renamed to Communitycoin

Mining Pool : http://mc.lksmith.me
Cgminer Details : cgminer.exe --scrypt -o http://mc.lksmith.me:9988 -u poolusername -p worker password

Wow! After the name change Network Hashing power has spiked to over 100MH/s... i don't know whether to be happy or to be paranoid that this might be a 51% attack.

Here's the details you need for mining.  :)

communitycoin.conf

rpcuser=user
rpcpassword=password
rpcport=22700
rpcallow=*.*.*.*
server=1
addnode=212.48.67.126

Cgminer Details : cgminer.exe --scrypt -o localthost:22700 -u user -p password

Block Explorer : http://altcha.in/chain/Crimecoin     -  I assume this will be renamed to Communitycoin

Mining Pool : http://mc.lksmith.me
Cgminer Details : cgminer.exe --scrypt -o http://mc.lksmith.me:9988 -u poolusername -p worker password

Just as an FYI: rpcallowip line should NOT be in your confs. Doing so presents a security risk if somebody can figure out your username/pw. Also, Change user to something else and password to something random that you can copy paste for your own safety. server=1 doesn't need to be there assuming you're not solo mining. also. Dj missed something in the pool cgminer string. it's supposed to be cgminer.exe --scrypt -o http://mc.lksmith.me:9988 -u poolusername.workername -p workerpassword.

Veddy

EDIT: rpcallowip line is not required for peer connections like CaptChadd thought. Peer connections will happen regardless. So please, REMOVE that line from the conf and DO NOT open that port up to the public internet.

I have been soloing this a bit too, to help with the diff spike, will get back to normal. The person or group that power mined it get quiet a few coins and so become interested on this on an exchange, so it only helps really.

Technically solo mining doesn't help/hurt the diff spike. Damage is done for a while. although we dropped down to .41 diff from .77 which is good.

How often is diff recalced?  We've found with Mincoin that about 70 blocks is reasonable enough between retargets.

Title: Re: [ANN] CommunityCoin (CTC) (Currency Name Change)
Post by: djchoppa on August 27, 2013, 07:05:04 PM
It's recalcuated every 144 blocks.  Am I correct in saying that with a 5min block time they should normally take about 12 hours,  if the 144 take less than 12 hours then the diff goes up, if they take more then the diff goes down?

I'm not sure if anyone has implemented this strategy just yet, but I'm a fan of a rolling average for difference retargeting.  Say, every 10 blocks diff is recalculated, but averaged across the past 50-80 blocks.

I've "dreamed" of this idea but I don't know if anyone else has thought of it and tried to implement it.  I don't see why it wouldn't work well.

Well, there goes the coin... some miner on the pool is pumping out over 11MH/s, which is about 5x the rest of the combined network.  Also, he's hitting blocks at a rate of almost 1 every minute.

Guess that means we should see ~25-30 minute blocks when he stops. >:(

Pool is currently down due to overload in the block generation system for PPLNS. Will post when back online.

EDIT: Unfortunately, it's going to be harder to fix than I originally thought. Minus the currently listed donation amounts, i will pay out the current wallet, create a new one and then wipe the db except for the userdb...

Veddy

2nd EDIT: Pham: please put a payout address into my pool's db or else i won't be able to pay you.

3rd EDIT: Turns out i screwed up in the troubleshooting. I should've looked and added a share to a certain block but i didn't. New wallet is in place and I will be paying all of it out based on the backed up history of shares. I do sincerely apologize.

I'll consider that growing pains.  I managed to mine about 25 coins yesterday.  Can I still post an address for a cashout or does it no longer matter?

Not sure why some people are power mining this to pump the difficulty up. Either to damage it or to get a vast amount of coins.

If they get a load of coins then I am sure they will want to sell them at some point or what a waste.

Address updated.  Thank you.

Should the power miner not come forth and enter an address, I will be redistributing his earnings. (After a reasonable amount of time, of course.) I plan to give him 2 weeks and if he doesn't put in an address into the DB, i'll redistribute what's left. I don't like having that amount of CTC just sitting in a pool wallet that is now unused.

Veddy

EDIT: rlh: tx sent for 50 CTC. TxID: 58264c6029e79cbb84422a7046ce34473f377205b93d75dc3e53299e65bd2cea

Having trouble running commmunitycoind when compiled from source.

Firstly, the source file contained about 20-25MB worth of Windows specific stuff, DLLs and even geocoind.exe (this is Communitycoin, right? :D ) sitting in the src dir. Also, one of the source files has 3 or 4 random characters of garbage at the very start which had to be edited out to compile.

Then once I ran communitycoind...

Assertion failed: (block.hashMerkleRoot == uint256("0x7bcc6ac4395696e1895efc3f899451d41d5211b724868e8bbfe07849e049a646")), function LoadBlockIndex, file main.cpp, line 2031.

Here's the code in main.cpp leading up to the assert:

Code:
        //// debug print
        printf("%s\n", block.GetHash().ToString().c_str());
        printf("%s\n", hashGenesisBlock.ToString().c_str());
        printf("%s\n", block.hashMerkleRoot.ToString().c_str());
        assert(block.hashMerkleRoot == uint256("0x7bcc6ac4395696e1895efc3f899451d41d5211b724868e8bbfe07849e049a646"));

I don't know enough about C++ or the *coin source to fix this. What's going on?

You need to download the blockchain file in the OP and put it in a appdata communitycoin folder. This was due to the name switchover.

Same here. I downloaded the chain as mentioned above ^^^^, even reused the peers.dat file that was included in the archive (along with a debug log, lol), but none of the 144 nodes in it seem to be alive.

Thanks, finally been able to connect. The fact that I'm running via a proxy makes things more difficult since peers are trying to connect to the IP of the proxy... which is not going to work. Not sure why the source code was written to pass around the proxy IP as a potential peer?

I had been encountering errors in the compile process... If you could send me info on how to compile it on headless *nix, i'd appreciate it.

EDIT: Never mind... Finally CaptChadd fixed the initial compile errors i was having but i had to rename obj-test in the src dir to obj for it to compile.

The name change from Crimecoin to Communitycoin did not work as intended so I am attempting to bring the original Crimecoin back online, with the original blockchain still unchanged and intact and still using the Crimecoin V 1.2 client.

I will be updating the website http://www.crimecoin.org website to have a Windows V1.2 download link, a link to the Github source code etc.

This coin started as a Scrypt coin and will stay as one.

Might be a good time for previous Crimecoin miners to dust off any old CRM wallets they have.

Many thanks.

I didn't know there was another community coin besides the POS one that launched in 2014. Has CommunityCoin (CTC) got nothing to do with CommunityCoin (COMM)?

The Crimecoin and Communitycoin blockchain are the same thing so the blockchain should just carry on.

If you dont have the original V 1.2 Crimecoin client I can send it to you so we can get the chain running again first, make sure it is still running like it did before and then gets some links posted and the website updated.

What to you think?

I didn't know there was another community coin besides the POS one that launched in 2014. Has CommunityCoin (CTC) got nothing to do with CommunityCoin (COMM)?

They are not related, Communitycoin CTC was around first and COMM decided to release another coin of the same name without telling anyone it was a reboot.

I've got the community coin client but not the crimecoin one.  Can you post a link to it please.

Thank you

Hang on, I've just found it.

No active connections yet tho.   I'll leave it running.   :)
